Sharing is caring
They had lived together for a couple of years now, but they were just roommates. Well, roommates and best friends, something that can happen when you spend tons of time together. They both needed a place to live but couldn't afford an apartment by themselves, so they ended up sharing the nice and rather big house where they were living in now, because despite the size of it, it was cheaper than two different apartments.
The house had three bedrooms, one of them with a bathroom, and that one, Robin left to it Regina (what a gentleman, she said to him and he just smirked at her), one that was Robin's and was near the bathroom in the hallway, and the last one was used as room for the things they didn't know where to put, also known as the room of requirements.
They both had their life, their jobs, their friends as well as common friends, their partners and they had no problem organizing a get together at their house with their them. But on one thing they both agreed on: no parties. The reason: they were both two lazy asses who hated cleaning up after parties.
So parties at their house were a big no, but a night in watching a movie and eating junk food on the couch was a yes. And it was quite the agreement they had with their friends. Every house or apartment had their function.
Their home was the cinema, Will's house, who was one of Robin's friends and lived a bit isolated, was the party house. Perks of living in what once was his grandparents farm house. John's house, where there was also a barbeque, was the place where they did the good eating and so on.
That night was a cinema night. People were sitting on the couch, on the armchair or even on the floor. Even if Robin and Regina always tried to sit far from each other, in a way or another they always ended up sitting together.
And that wouldn't be a bad thing if it wasn't that they were trying to hide their feelings from everyone, but at the moment they were just able to hide them from themselves.
So while Ruby and Will shared the armchair, not that they minded to be sitting all over each other, John, Mulan and Merida were on the floor sharing a giant bowl of popcorn, double R, as their friends called them, were on the couch next to Mary Margaret and David, the real charming couple of the group.
Despite the best effort, Robin and Regina always ended up cuddling up together and when they were called out about that, they always said they were just comfortable in that position.
More times than what they could remember, their friends had approached them, when they were together or alone, about this particular thing, but they kept denying it and then feeling bad about it when the other had a partner.
They used to fall asleep together, watching a movie on the couch or in one of the bedrooms, but then they made the mistake, at least they believed it was a mistake, to kiss and not only that and from that day forward, they made sure to never share a bed together again.
They made a deal that day, and the most important part was that there couldn't be anything between them. They made that deal not to hurt themselves, but it was the deal itself that hurt them the most.
It took the collapsed roof of one of the bedrooms to make them share again.
They were out for dinner when it happened and they didn't even realize until Robin went to his room.
"What the fucking hell?!" Robin had yelled and Regina literally run from her bedroom to his to see what the problem was.
But her words weren't too different from Robin's. "What the hell?!"
How did the roof in his room collapsed was a mystery to them. What was once Robin's bedroom was now a pile of debris from the collapsed roof.
"How the hell does a roof collapses like that?!" Robin yelled to nobody in particular.
"I have no idea. But we should call someone."
And that was how they spent the night, with the fireman checking out the house to make sure nothing else was going to collapse. But since they couldn't go back into the house until further investigation, they ended up taking a room in the nearest hotel.
But with their luck there was only one room with only one bed. They were both too tired to look for another place so they took the room.
"You can take the bed, I take the couch."
"Don't be daft, that couch is too small for you. You go ahead and take the bed."
"Regina-" Robin began but she didn't let him finish.
She was tired, still kind of shocked because of what had happened, and she wasn't in the mood for his acts of chivalry.
"Tonight is not the night to be a gentleman Locksley, so take the damn bed and go to sleep." She said in a bossy tone that didn't allow replies.
"I was just going to say we could share." He grinned.
Regina stared at him with an open mouth. Was he being serious? Doesn't he remember what had happened the last time they shared a bed?
Robin put his bag down, walked over her and took her hands. She was wearing sneakers and the high difference was huge. And he had to admit that he loved how short she was, he found it adorable but she detested it.
"I know what you are thinking and why you don't want to share the bed."
Regina bit her lower lip. "We agreed. After that night we agreed." She kept pointing out and looking at the floor.
"True. But we would just share a bed and sleep."
"We said that also the other time."
Robin exhaled. God, she was stubborn. "Yes we did, but this time we're not drunk. We can behave."
"You are not going to let it go, right?" She shakes her head, amused.
"Nope."
They settled into bed as far from each other as they could, and they both tried to ignore each other's presence. Despite being in the middle of the night they couldn't sleep so they watched some television and stayed on their phone for a while, answering their friends about the situation.
When both Robin and Regina told their respective friends about the sleeping situation, without the other knowing they had said that, they both received messages of encouragement and teasing, telling them it was their chance to confess their feelings to each other. They both answered they were crazy and decided it was time to sleep.
If they had fallen asleep with their back at each other and on the edge of the bed, they were now waking up cuddled up together in the middle of the bed. Robin was spooning and hugging her, his arm around her middle keeping her against him. Regina was kind of hugging his other arm, the one under her, like it was a teddy bear.
Regina woke up when she felt someone kissing her head and then her shoulder. She stirred and turned on herself to face Robin.
She looked at him curiously. "What are you doing?"
He looked like a boy who had been caught stealing cookies from the jar. "Sorry, I thought you were asleep." He ran a hand behind his neck, slightly embarrassed.
Regina looked at him ready to tease him. "Oh really, because that makes it better. That's not creepy at all."
"No, I-" But he had no idea what to say and Regina moved to get up from the bed.
"So much for just sleeping." She muttered as she went to the bathroom.
Robin fell back into the bed, slapping a hand on his face. What a good way to ruin everything. He had a crush on Regina since forever and that fateful night only confirmed his feelings for her. It had been so hard to keep his feelings hidden and he wasn't sure he did a good job since everybody kept pointing out how clear it was that he was in love with her. He needed to be more careful with his actions.
They spent the whole Saturday ignoring what happened and trying to understand what to do about their house. The firemen had said that they had to stay out of there until the house was completely checked out to make sure it wouldn't happen again, or in another part of the house. When they asked what the cause of it was, they were told it was an infiltration but they couldn't see it until it was too late.
That night they repeated the same thing: television, phones, lights out and edge of the bed. But exactly like the previous morning, they woke up cuddling together.
This time Robin was on his back, one arm under Regina keeping her in that position. Regina was using Robin's chest as a pillow, her hand between her cheek and his chest.
Regina was the first one to wake up. She knew she had to move before Robin woke up but she was so comfortable and waking up in his arms was something that she had dreamt of way before that night.
She was staring up at him when he opened his eyes and literally busted her.
"Now who is the creepy one?" He teased her.
"I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Sure you don't Miss 'I watch you while you sleep'."
"You are an idiot." She began to move out of his arms, but Robin stopped her by pulling her toward him.
"Stay here." He pleaded.
She looked at him with wide eyes. "What? Why?"
"Because I really like having you here."
"Robin…"
"I know what we said, but…" He took a long pause so Regina pushed him a bit.
"But what?" She insisted.
He looked directly into her eyes. "Screw that deal!"
Without giving her the time to react, he grabbed her and kissed her like there was no tomorrow. He put in that kiss all the passion he had kept for himself for all those years, all the despair he felt every time she would walk away from him (like when they were sitting next to each other or they were on the couch, or in this case when they shared a bed). They broke the kiss only when their lungs began to burn for the lack of air.
Regina was still trying to understand how to react and her brain was still foggy. "What? Why? Why did you do that?"
"Because sticking to that deal is hurting us more than not to follow it."
"And if it doesn't work? If it hurts?" She sounded so insecure at that moment.
He tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "And what if it works?"
She shook her head, half smiling and half crying, and Robin bent forward to kiss her. But this time it was a sweet kiss, nothing like the one he had given her earlier.
They gave it a try, a try at a relationship and it was the best choice they could make.
That night they didn't even pretend to try to sleep with space between them, they immediately cuddled up together.
They had decided to take it slow but their slowness lasted only for a couple of days. In fact, not even 48 hours after they officially got back together, they were sharing a bed naked. They were happy, they were laughing and the bed, and the room in general was a complete mess, but they couldn't care less. They "shared" that bed so many times that they lost count.
When they finally could go back to their house, they moved all Robin's things into Regina's room, the master bedroom, and when their friends found out there was a passing of money between them because they had bet on the two of them.
They had their ups and downs, their arguments but also the happy moments and the amazing memories. And for all of that they had to thank a collapsed roof.
...
"And that was how I confessed my feelings to your mother and convinced her to spend the rest of our lives together." Robin was looking into Regina's eyes with so much love that they could both explode.
Robin was finishing the story he was telling to their sons as she cradled their three days old baby girl, and they were all snuggling together on the bed he and Regina shared.
