"Here you are, Kawaki!" The Hokage's wife, Mrs. Uzumaki, opened the door to the Hokage's office. "I'm sorry, the only spare bed we have is Naruto's in his office. I washed all the sheets and bedding for you."

"Got it." He replied.

He took a moment to look around the room. He was relieved there wasn't a single lock on the door. There were two windows behind the desk facing the back yard if he needed another route to escape. The room was full of furniture, containing a large desk, a couch, a bookshelf, a wardrobe, a cupboard, a bed, and a small nightstand moved beside the desk with a kettle and a tray on it. At least there was plenty of furniture to use to barricade the door shut if need be.

"Is there anything else you need? We can go clothes shopping tomorrow, so don't worry about that." Mrs. Uzumaki said, interrupting his emergency scenario planning.

"I'm fine." He replied.

"Alright. Goodnight, Kawaki!" she said, smiling warmly and closing the door behind her as she left, presumably to do whatever it was wives do. Or maybe help her husband plan for his interrogation.

They did say they want information from me.

Once he was sure the Hokage's wife was out of hearing range, he checked the room carefully for cameras or listening devices of any kind. Surprisingly, he found none.

Kara always monitored me. I'm surprised these guys aren't cause I'm their only source of intel with that pig dead.

Feeling satisfied for the moment, he decided to get settled in. Like it or not, he was sleeping here. He took off his ripped up blue Kara jacket and threw it on the couch before reluctantly slipping into bed. It felt luxurious just slipping into a comfortable, warm bed for the first time in a long time. He had a room back at Kara, but the mattress was old and uncomfortable and the thin blankets did nothing to keep out the cold. He remembered being so thrilled that Jigen was giving him his very own bedroom in the same hall where all the other children lived. He hadn't known that Jigen was only keeping them alive until he had enough kids to bother doing the karma implantation ritual.

Gods this is amazing.

He sighed, relishing the sensation of being able to just wrap himself up in not just one but several thick, quality blankets.

I wish I could sleep in a bed like this every night.

It didn't take long for his restless mind to return to more pressing matters, though.

Is the Hokage sleeping in here tonight? I thought married couples slept together.

How long am I gonna have to stay here? What are they gonna do to me to try to get me to talk?

If I stay in one spot like this, Jigen will find me for sure. I crashed in this country's airspace so it's only natural they will come looking here eventually.

For the second time in his life, fifteen-year-old Kawaki was being forced into a situation he wanted no part in and couldn't escape from. He tried to escape four times with mixed success. He finally gave up earlier after he knocked the table over and broke the vase trying to run from the Hokage and his wife while he had a chance.

Well, he thought he had a chance. He'd never felt such an overwhelming power from anyone else but Jigen. Hell, this Hokage guy might be almost as strong as Jigen with that orange energy! He knew then that escaping from the Hokage was impossible, with that threat. Just as impossible as escaping Jigen had been until he suddenly insisted on moving him from the base with no exit to another location via airship for testing.

I mean I know I'm easily replaced to them but it just doesn't make sense.

He stayed up, waiting to see if the Hokage would be coming in to sleep, but he never showed up even after the last footsteps in the house retreated to bed.

I guess he's sleeping with his wife after all.

He laid awake, unable to sleep despite everything. He had a warm bed, some food in his stomach from earlier at the hospital, and he felt exhausted but he just couldn't stop thinking. He half expected Jigen or one of the Inners to break in and try to take him.

It's just not safe here. Surely Jigen's sent someone else to come retrieve me by now.

After being awake for hours, he ended up being lulled to sleep by the nice smelling blankets and pillowcase. It was just too damn relaxing and comfortable.

What's this smell? It's so warm…

Author's note:

Edit 2: Updated his living conditions at Kara to be more in line with canon information from the anime.

Edit: Updated with a few minor edits. I forgot to add, but you're reading this from Kawaki's POV, which affects how he perceives and reads people's words and actions. I'm trying to keep that in mind as I write.

Original: Sorry if the chapter's shit I wrote it at 1am exhausted. If you got this far, please read and review! If you'd like to beta, even better cause I'm not that good of a writer.

This is just a random oneshot. If I continue, it'll just be a series of oneshots without any real regard for the Boruto manga/anime so it'll be an AU character and family centric fic. You might already be able to tell, but I'm combining anime canon and manga canon with his background and making up the unknown details based on that.
