Becas eyes opened, her body tense as someone walked through the bedroom door. She had woken up just moments before and looked to see Aubrey walking toward her with a cup of coffee.
"Good morning, love." She smiled and Beca relaxed as she sat up and took the cup being offered to her.
"Thank you, good morning," she said as she sat back against the headboard and took a sip.
She made a face and Aubrey chuckled. "Chloe made it."
"Ah, that explains it. Its as sweet as she is." She laughed and set it on the night stand. She placed her hands in her lap, looking up at her wife. "Sorry I just came to bed last night; I was pretty tired and I didn't want to be a buzzkill."
"No worries, I understand. You might have to explain yourself to Chloe though." She laughed. "How is your hand?"
She nodded toward the wrapped hand resting in Becas lap.
"It's okay. I tried to be extra careful with it yesterday, I don't think I over did it."
Aubrey nodded, reaching for it and Beca let her gently take it into her own hands. "I'm sorry again, for how it happened. I never meant for you to fall."
Beca felt a rush of anger fill her chest. They hadn't had the chance to discuss that night, really. Aubrey had gone to bed, Beca cleaned the mess and this was the first time they had spoken since.
"You pushed me, Aubrey. What did you expect to happen?" She asked taking her hand back. Aubrey looked up at her.
"I didn't mean for you to break the table." She spoke. "I told Chloe you fell while drunk, and that you are embarrassed about it." She said standing up and Beca kept her eyes on her. "She shouldn't ask too many questions."
Beca watched her walk back toward the door in disbelief. She had already lied to Chloe about her injury. Made it seem like it was Becas own fault. Maybe it was.
"We missed dinner with my dad again last night because of Chloe's arrival." She said as she reached the door. "You have missed the last three weeks. He isn't impressed and has requested all three of us to join him for dinner tonight." She said before walking out of the room.
The shift in Aubrey's mood happened so quickly. She didn't like Beca standing up for herself that was obvious. Or maybe she just didn't like being called out.
Beca took a breath and got out of the bed, grabbing her cup of coffee and following Aubrey downstairs. There she found Chloe standing at the stove making breakfast.
"Hey Beale." She said as she walked in, Aubrey had sat down at the table and picked up her own coffee, watching the two. Her face free of the irritation it had previously held.
Chloe turned around, a huge smile on her face as she set her spatula down and Beca had just enough time to set her cup on the counter before the woman had thrown herself into her arms.
"Aww, my Beca!" She said hugging her tightly and rocking them back and forth. Beca couldn't help but laugh at her antics.
"Hey, Chlo." She said as they pulled apart. "It's good to see you!"
Chloe's smile only grew as she stepped back and looked at Beca. "You too, my goodness I missed you." She said before grabbing her spatula and flipping the French toast she was making.
"Thanks for the coffee."
"How did you know I made it?" She asked over her shoulder and Beca chuckled.
"You only use a little coffee with your sugar."
Chloe's gasp made Aubrey laugh. "I told you she would know." She said as she sat back in her chair looking at her phone.
"Well," Chloe said setting the French toast on the pile she had already made. "Breakfast is ready, and there is plenty of coffee if you need a new cup."
"You won't be offended?" Beca asked as she was already grabbing a clean mug.
"Nope, I need another cup anyway, I personally think this is a delicious." She said picking up Beca's cup of coffee and taking a sip.
"All yours." She said as she poured herself a fresh cup, added a little cream and skipped the sugar entirely.
They were soon sitting down to a lovely breakfast of French toast, eggs and bacon all made by Chloe.
"Thank you, Chloe. You didn't have to do this." Aubrey said as she cut into her breakfast.
Chloe clicked her tongue and shook her head. "Its tradition, you know I always make breakfast after a night of drinking." She said and picked up a piece of bacon.
"I hope we didn't keep you up last night, Becs?"
Aubrey looked from Chloe to Beca who was struggling to cut her French toast, unable to use her left hand to cut or hold the fork tight enough to keep it still.
"No, I slept fine." She said, trying to get her right hand to do this simple task, trying not to draw attention to herself.
"Oh, I'm sorry, here let me help." Chloe said reaching over and Aubrey watched as she gently took Becas utensils and started cutting her breakfast up into bite sized pieces.
"I'm sorry you hurt your hand. I hope it heals quickly." She said as she finished and pushed the plate back over to her.
Beca briefly looked at Aubrey and saw her expression change from one of annoyance to a cheerful smile as she took a bite of her breakfast. She kept doing that. It was almost as if she wanted Beca to see her displeasure but didn't want to get caught glaring at her by Chloe.
"It was only a matter of time before something like this happened." She said, her voice holding a bit of a tone. "I wasn't aware of how much producers drink." She laughed and Beca looked down at her plate, her brow furrowing.
Chloe looked from Aubrey to Beca and chuckled uncomfortably. "Well, we have all had our accidents while letting loose, haven't we?" She asked, trying to get the attention off of Beca. Seeing she was embarrassed and wondering why Aubrey said what she did after asking her not to make a big deal out of it.
"I mean, I have no room to judge. Look at this forehead scar from freshman year initiation party into the Bella's. Alice almost took my scarf worrying it would make the whole group look bad. Remember you told her off and she never mentioned it again?" She asked Aubrey and the blonde smiled at her.
"She was being ridiculous." She spoke.
"Accidents happen. Right Becs?"
Beca looked up at Chloe's kind smile. She wanted so badly to tell her the truth. She hadn't been drinking. She didn't have a drinking problem because she was a producer, she rarely had more than a glass of wine on Friday nights. She wanted to point at Aubrey and tell Chloe that she was the one that was drunk. That if she hadn't lost her temper and shoved her, she never would have fallen. She never would have cut her hand. She wouldn't be worrying about nerve damage.
But she couldn't do that. She couldn't tell her wife's best friend that she had been losing her temper. Hitting her. Kicking her. Pushing her around. She couldn't do that because…why? Why couldn't she just scream it. Tell Chloe the truth and ask for help? Pack a bag, grab her car keys and just leave?
She didn't understand. Why couldn't she leave?

That night, Beca was applying her make up in her vanity mirror when Aubrey stepped up behind her. Chloe was in the guest room bathroom getting ready for the dinner with John, and Aubrey and Beca were getting ready in their room.
The day had gone a little better after breakfast. They decided to go out for the day and visited a few of their favorite shops around the city. Got lunch and then ended the day walking through a street market.
She looked up at Aubrey through the reflection in the mirror. Aubrey picked up her hair brush and began running it through Becas hair.
"My dad isn't going to mention anything while Chloe is around, and I would like it if you wouldn't mention your promotion again. I know you haven't told Chloe yet, but please don't do it tonight. My dad is under the impression that I have everything under control here. He doesn't expect to hear about your job, and he knows Chloe isn't aware of our trying for a baby so he isn't going to bring that up. Please, just try and be on good behavior tonight?"
She held Aubrey's gaze through the reflection as her hand stilled in her hair. The brush halfway down. She gave a small nod and Aubrey pulled the brush through before setting it down. "Thank you. I will drive tonight. Remember no wine at dinner and please don't do anything to upset him. You know that if you do, I will have no choice but to…correct it." She said as she reached the door. "Change your dress please? I don't like that one."
Beca looked down, her heart beating in her chest. This wasn't going to stop. She just made it clear that it wasn't. This was how things were now. She was to do as she was told, act as she was told and not make a spectacle of herself. Or there would be consequences.

"Its so nice to see you, Chloe. You really should come out and visit more often." John was saying as he cut into his steak dinner.
Chloe smiled. She was the only one of Aubrey's friends that John approved of and she knew it. He made it known.
"I know, I miss it out here. Its so hot and sunny."
He nodded taking a bite, not looking up from his plate as he cut another piece from his steak. Beca sat across from him, her eyes on the bowl of soup Aubrey had ordered for her, trying not to wince every time she heard his fork hit his plate. Chloe hadn't said anything when Aubrey chose Becas dinner, but she did watch Becas confused expression as her menu was taken. She would ask about it later.
"You know, there is a wonderful Veterinary Office just down the road from the firm. I know the Vet, its privately owned. I could probably talk to him about a job for you, if you are ever interested in coming back." He said and Beca looked up at Chloe hopefully.
That would be wonderful Having Chloe back. That would take a lot of stress off of Aubrey, she knew that. She missed her best friend so much. And Beca did too.
"Actually. I was going to wait to say anything, but now that you mention it." She said setting her fork down and Becas heart was once again beating painfully in her chest, and she could see out of the corner of her eye that Aubrey had tensed.
"I was offered a job here. I wanted to see you all and I was coming out to look at apartments, so thought this was the perfect time for a visit. I'll be moving back to Atlanta as soon as I find a place."
