I just need to especially thank MythaWolf for the great idea! Thanks to them, I'm here with your next chapter! Still no ideas, but I have something now, I guess. And to skyatnight13, I'm not going to lie. Your review didn't make the chapter spawn out of anywhere, probably only cause I don't really check my email, but I know that at least you like it, and that's enough. You gave me the motivation to finish and even post it! This one is for you two!
Note: it's no longer on hiatus! But I have no update schedule and don't intend to make one.
Ridiculous. Comforting wasn't her job! In fact, it was really the job of the one that she was comforting. Time to reverse the roles once again, she supposed.
It was nighttime when Eris found her. Harmonia sat on a bench that was on the grassy roof of Demeter's temple. She stared blankly into space as she fidgeted with a golden flower that she had picked from the gardens.
"What do you want?" Harmonia sighed, moving her head to face Eris slightly.
"Nice to see you too." Eris raised her eyebrows and gestured to Harmonia's dirty chiton. "What's with the outfit?"
The golden-haired goddess pursed her lips slightly. "As if yours isn't just as bad." Eris snapped her fingers, and her blue chiton was replaced with a formal black dress of thin silk that was wrapped many times to cover everything down to her feet and elbows, becoming thinner and more see-through the further it went down.
"Now it's not." Harmonia crossed her arms with a huff, looking stubbornly away in annoyance.
"You need to get out more." Eris cocked a hip to the side as she looked down at Harmonia. She ran a strand of matted brown hair between her fingers with an air of indifference. "Honestly, your appearance is going to Artemis' wolves. Has gone, really."
"And what is that supposed to mean?" Harmonia muttered, glancing back for a moment. She was met with the burning yellow gaze of an unimpressed goddess, as Eris stubbornly avoided the question. Wait, yellow gaze? "Hey, since when were your eyes yellow?"
Without missing a beat, Eris replied stoically. "They've been yellow ever since I got infuriated by humanity as a whole."
Harmonia shrugged as if to say 'no, that's fair.' "Yes, that is equal." Close enough.
"But do you feel better?" Eris inquired. "I came here to make you feel better, and I feel that I've been doing a terrible job."
"Yeah." Harmonia lied. "I feel a lot better. Don't worry about me." Eris raised an eyebrow.
"You didn't seem okay during Aphrodite's tantrum." Eris pointed out, loosening her spine with a twist casually.
"I'm okay, but are you after that snap?" Harmonia asked worriedly.
"I've had worse than this! Don't worry about me." Eris reassured the concord goddess. "If you're sure you're fine…" she started to walk away slowly, her dress flickering around her ankles like black fire. Each step was slow and steady, though Eris looked almost about to turn around again, but she clearly prevented this if her clenched fists were anything to go by. She had to leave Harmonia alone to her own mind, as much as Eris didn't want to.
Eris sat down at a fountain near Zeus' castle and frowned a little. Harmonia might have been lying about her being fine, seeing as the golden-haired goddess was in terrible shape. She probably was lying, but what could Eris do if Harmonia didn't want her help? She really wanted to help for some reason, maybe it would get rid of this weird feeling that made her feel distant from the world.
Eris, on principle, was rather attached to the bad in the world. It was part of her domain of strife. If she wasn't in tune, it could get out of hand. Or worse, forever disappear. And then, without her power, Eris would fade, and then the good would have no balance, everything spiraling into despair from there. Morbid thoughts like this generally helped keep the purple-eyed goddess grounded, but not this time apparently.
The strife goddess leaned back against the fountain, sighing dreamily. Something about Harmonia's eyes, usually so happy and bright, made her feel fluttery whenever she pictured them. And the other goddess' radiant smile, bringing forth memories of the one day that Harmonia brought Eris to a sparkling lake… Eris easily fell into the memory, already feeling so drowsy and content.
"Where are you bringing me?" The teenage girl asked her friend skeptically.
"My favorite place!" Harmonia replied with a carefree grin.
The girls were running through a field of flowers, Harmonia in front of Eris. Her golden hair flew in the breeze behind her as she ran, the bright colors she wore perfectly fitting in with the light-colored flowers.
"Listen, Eris, before we go there, I need to tell you something." Harmonia stopped her friend.
Eris' flashback was cut off by the screech of the most hated bird to ever exist.
Doves. Disgoosting!
A flash of pink light shine from the roof of Demeter's temple, where Eris had just been. "Hello darling!" The cheerful ringing of Aphrodite's voice rang throughout the silent courtyard. "I'm so happy that you've reconsidered!" Eris looked back quickly. Wait a minute, she thought that Harmonia hated Aphrodite! And reconsidered? Reconsidered what?
Of course Eris had no reasonable reason to feel betrayed, but Harmonia had eventually grown on her as a lovable annoyance.
AND THAT'S A WRAP FOLKS! What is Eris feeling? What is Aphrodite up to? And what has Harmonia reconsidered?
FIND OUT NEXT WEEK!
haha, no, not really.
P.S: technically I am free to use the Greek Myths however the heck I want, so legal people can stuff it.
