Haha! You thought I would never update again! But I finally forced some inspiration into myself so here we go!
I literally have no plotline, just pain. If you want a planned story, don't read mine. Okay, now I've warned you.
This is basically the other side of things and oh how I'm going to have some fun with the characters being in pain!
Apollo wasn't as credible as everyone thought. He got his powers passed down a bit, and they were a little diluted after all these generations. He also couldn't spout a prophecy on demand. Really, he did try, but sometimes it couldn't be helped.
Sometimes, most times, he didn't try to decipher it further, often not seeing the point. But this time he really did. After all, it was for Eris.
Eris, who hated him. Eris, who liked Hermes more. Eris, who Apollo couldn't get out of his head. Eris, who was exactly the type of girl that he was told to stay away from.
Still, people were told not to come near Apollo either.
That didn't work out. Why should it work out now? As Apollo stared at the black-haired beauty, he didn't see what the big deal was. How could this beauty in gold be dangerous?
He should have known better than anyone.
Harmonia stared at her mother warily. "Reconsidered what?"
Aphrodite laughed, a sound that could have been beautiful if it were out of context. But taking in the glint in the love goddess' eye, Harmonia didn't think it sounded at all nice. "Darling, you clearly haven't! I just had to ward off that pesky daughter of Nyx!"
"Her name's Eris." Harmonia muttered, but Aphrodite heard. The Olympian turned to face her daughter completely.
"Ah ah ah, I see some emotional attachments! You might want to snap those connections darling! After all, there's no room for a wife in your life!"
Harmonia froze. "H-how did you…?"
Aphrodite waved her hand. "Honestly darling, I'm the love goddess! There's nothing hidden in your heart the love goddess can't see!" She gave a nasty grin. "It really doesn't matter. After all, your precious Eris doesn't love you back! In fact, she doesn't trust you at all!"
"Wait no, that's not possible! She… she came to comfort me after everything. She could have avoided me. But she didn't! Eris cares!"
"Caring is not the same as trusting my sweet, sweet daughter. You should know."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Harmonia asked, more sharply than she was prone to speaking. Yet she felt a sharp pain in her heart as she knew exactly what Aphrodite was speaking of. Perhaps it was better to forget all about it, but it seemed like such a difficult thing to forget about.
"Really Harmonia, if you needed proof, all you had was to ask." What was it with goddesses and ignoring questions? Perhaps it was them as immortals realizing that there was no need to answer questions when they were far outlasting to mere words expressing uncertainty and lack of knowledge. Or perhaps it was mere avoidance on the author's part to go back and realize that a character had asked a question, then change the rest of the paragraph to revolve around that question. But Harmonia digressed.
"I don't need proof to know that I can trust my friend!" The peaceful goddess declared confidently.
"Maybe that's so, but why don't you go to the celebration on Olympus and see her love for yourself?" Aphrodite smiled again, but it did not look at all reassuring.
"Perhaps I will!" Harmonia declared, then disappeared in a flash of golden light.
(I really wanted to end it here but I guess I won't.)
Maybe.
Harmonia gasped and her eyes filled with tears as she watched Eris laugh and smile with a wind nymph.
It doesn't have to mean anything. She told herself. Maybe Eris is just in a good mood. That seemed to be the correct conclusion, as the strife goddess went sweeping into the rest of the party quick enough.
Harmonia smiled and made her leave, out onto one of the side balconies. She wished she had snacks, but someone had taken the entire olive platter, paying no mind to others who wanted to eat those particular snacks.
She was in such a good mood at seeing her friend just as hostile as ever, that it took Harmonia a moment to realize what she was seeing. The golden-haired immortal had turned her head to gaze at the bright moon, and it just so happened that the moon hung right over a neighboring balcony.
Harmonia flinched back as she saw two other immortals, both with black hair. One of them was male, Harmonia could see the silhouettes in the night, while the other was female.
The female grabbed the front of the guy's shirt and pulled him to her face level. Harmonia blushed, knowing what this probably was.
Then, however, the female spoke in a garbled voice. It must have been soundproofed, but Harmonia was so close that she could still hear a little. But that voice sounded so familiar…
With a start, and a sinking feeling in her stomach, she came to the revelation that it was Eris who was the female in the dark. And the act she was in…
Harmonia let out a sob, though it came out more as a disbelieving laugh. Her mother was right. Eris didn't love Harmonia back.
Back. Did that mean that Harmonia loved Eris in the first place? She sobbed again as she realized it did.
Girls couldn't love girls, she'd been told. And maybe that was true. Maybe Harmonia wasn't as natural as a goddess of harmony should be.
Harmonia didn't know what to do, so she did what she did best.
She ran.
You guys thought this was going to be happy? It's not. Eris is still the goddess of Strife, and even if she has good-ish intentions, she's not always (read: often) going to achieve her goals in the "right" way. I could get philosophical about the "right way" but I won't because I just want to post this.
Talk to ya next week!
Oh wait, no I won't. Cause I never update! Have fun and use a better sleep schedule than me! ;)
