Sorry it took so long but I'm currently on vacation for a month and I have had a hard time getting back in the groove originally this chapter was longer but I decided that I'm aiming for longitivtiy as far as how many chapters I have so I decided to post this and move the other half for chapter 3, enjoy.
Hayden eventually found his way out of the woods and back to the party where there was already a bunch of cops including Sheriff Forbes who at the moment was taking down a few statements from Tyler and his friends.
Hayden may be a loser but he isn't a coward or at least he tries not to be one. Meaning of course he did the right thing and turned himself in. After Hayden arrived at the station and described what happened to Sheriff Forbes as expected the Lindermans showed up and emotional as any o her parent who has just received the news that their kid is dead. When they saw Hayden, Greg's parents demanded for him to be tossed into a jail cell immediately claiming they wanted to press charges for murder. Of course by some miraculous miracle the sheriff calmly explained after reviewing the witness statements from the people at the party including Tyler Lockwood and his friends believe it or not. She said that the whole thing was an accident from what she gathered and that Hayden's actions were ruled out as self defense.
However that didn't make it any easier for Hayden who couldn't even look at his hands without getting flashes of Greg's corpse. Sadly he didn't own a car and the only person as far as family was concerned was his grandmother who was in her early 80s. As a matter of fact she's the reason why Hayden was forced to move to Mystic Falls a few years back after his parents and little sister died in the…accident. Of course legally he isn't an adult yet so the only living relative he had left was his grandma who lived in Mystic Falls, Virginia.
The walk wasn't that far to his house and of course his grandma was watching the news and weather as usual at this time of night like clockwork. Of course trying to explain that you accidentally killed one of the bullies at your school isn't exactly something you're prepared for. But that's the thing with small towns news flys fast and nothing stays secret for long and sooner or later his grandma would hear it from someone somewhere. So Hayden rationalized that it's better for her to hear it straight from him rather than trying to hide it and hear it from someone else. Plus it kinda makes him look more guilty than he actually is.
His grandma was sitting in her recliner staring at the screen, that's when she saw her grandson Hayden out of the corner of her eye. She turned away from the screen and could see that his clothes were slightly dirty and that there was this look on his face that looked so sad and guilty. Clearly there was something troubling on his mind that he needed to tell her.
"Hi Hayden, did you have a fun time at the party?" She asked casually.
Hayden gave her a sheepish look. "Not really grandma, actually something happened that I have to tell you, something very serious."
She muted the TV and turned the recliner towards him as he took a seat on the couch.
Hayden told his grandma the story of the nights most recent events. Of course there were a few tears shed during the end but of course his grandma wasn't once angry at him at all and gave her grandson as much comfort as she could give after falling into her arms in a hug as Hayden finally had to let it all out.
In fact the only part that Hayden reluctantly decided to leave out was the strange feeling he got shortly after the incident in the woods.
Before he went to bed that night he swore that right before he took off his shirt and pants when he looked into the mirror on his dresser that his eyes turned…yellow!
The following morning marked the beginning of one of the weirdest, and yet greatest days of his life. Which is something that he'd soon regret saying to himself after he discovered the whole deal.
Hayden rolled himself out of bed like he would any other morning and he for one was not, repeat…NOT!! A morning person he preferred to get his beauty sleep. He marched over to his dresser hitting the snooze on his alarm clock, literally!
What would've been a light fist tap to cut out the noise on his clock turned out to be a crushing blow that completely destroyed his alarm clock shattering it into tiny little pieces.
This of course got Hayden's eyes fully opened currently witnessing his sudden newly unknown brute strength. His sight traveled from his fist up his arm to his…bicep! Which was now twice it's normal size.
Hayden shook his head trying to elude this vision. When he rubbed his eyes and opened them again his jaw was on the floor at the sight he saw before him reflected in the mirror.
Hayden saw in his reflection an entirely different body than his own that he had known for years. In place of his normal small and lean figure was a broad and large muscular form that looked like something out of a bodybuilder's book.
He had pecks and rock hard abs and even his face showed a much more mean and masculine aura that he just couldn't place. And honestly he didn't care this was a dream come true.
Of course despite all of this he still remembered that it wouldn't be an easy day for him especially for Hayden coming across anyone with a letterman's jacket or jersey. Even he regardless of all the hassles mourned Greg. Hayden wasn't one who wanted to wish that anyone dropped dead, unless it was that kind of person that just hand no humanity left in them…which was rare of course and he prayed that it stayed that way.
But for now he prayed that he wasn't the center of attention at school today. Because Hayden had a pretty good feeling that people would notice his alleged 'body transplant', especially the girls.
The morning went on like any other after breakfast, aside from the morning revelation and the fact that Hayden broke one alarm clock, ripped two shirts, and nearly took his door off it's hinges from almost pulling too hard.
So this is what Clark Kent felt like when he became Superman, not bad, not bad at all. The only thing that was missing were girls swooning over him.
And not a moment too soon after wandering through the school doors a bunch of eyes landed on Hayden who tried to act casual. He couldn't help but notice that he was unintentionally drawing a lot of female eyes on him which made his cheek chest up a bit.
Hayden finally got to his locker and carefully turned the dial pulling as gently as he can on the locker, not wanting to repeat what almost happened to his bedroom door.
After getting his books hearing the bell ringing he closed his locker and turned only to meet the face of one, Tyler Lockwood.
Hayden made an audible groan closing his eyes. "Tyler listen I don't want any trouble, I know what your going to say and I swear to you I never meant for that to happen to Greg, he may have been a dick but even I didn't hate him enough to kill him, he just attacked me, so if you're here to get even then please just do it already!"
Tyler's expression remained blank until it finally changed. "Nah don't worry about it I saw what Greg did I know it was an accident, I got no beef with you Kerbex."
Hayden might need to get his hearing checked because he swears that Tyler was actually being…nice. Well more like sympathetic to be exact, it would take a lot for Tyler to try and actually be nice.
Nevertheless, Hayden figures he might as well make the most of it while he can.
Hayden's expression softens a bit and sighs, "Yeah, well I really appreciate that because I'm willing to bet there's already a long line of your buddies waiting in line to have a crack at me!"
That remark actually causes Tyler to let out a small laugh. "Don't worry, I talked to the guys that weren't watching, trust me I got them off your back for a while."
"Yeah well, still I don't know how many others here consider me a murderer though?" Hayden pointed out.
Tyler tilted his head to the side in agreement.
"Hey don't beat yourself up Kerbex, trust me it doesn't do ya any good."
"Why? I love hating myself." Hayden remarked sarcastically with a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"Well I hope they decide to go easy on you too, see you later!" With that Tyler left down the hall with a wave that Hayden returned.
Luckily the only thing that he got was several suspicious stares from a few students as well as a few whispers and murmurs during different classes throughout the day.
As Hayden was getting ready to walk home the sound of a peppy and cheery girl came from behind him.
Hayden couldn't help but roll his eyes needless to say he knew who it was.
He turned around to meet one blonde Caroline Forbes with her always as ever enthusiastic smile looking right back at him.
"Hey Hayden!"
"Hey Caroline!"
"So I heard about what happened last night just for the record Greg was a complete jerk, you know he tried to cop a feel once when he thought I was wasted at a party a while back." Caroline explained while getting a little angry at the memory.
"Yeah well, shit happens as well as the bumper sticker slogan spells it out Caroline." He tells her.
Carline brushes a strand of her hair back behind her ear taking a step closer to him placing a hand on his shoulder which made him feel a bit warm.
"But I want you to know if you need anything I'm here for you, okay?" Caroline offered in very comforting and soothing tone.
Hayden had about enough of people putting him for one day not that he was trying to be an asshole about it but he just wanted to put this behind him.
Hayden put his hand on top of Caroline's which was still on his shoulder taking it off and into his own hands looking down at her.
"Caroline thank you, but I just need to deal with this on my own for now, can you try and understand that!"
Caroline sighed in defeat seeing Hayden's point, "Sure, but promise me if you need anything and I mean anything you call and I'll be there for you."
Hayden nodded. "Alright, see ya!" He waved goodbye.
"Bye!" With that Caroline walked off to her car.
Well as the saying goes what happened didn't go away but it did get better as time went on for a few weeks to be exact.
About a month later on the night before a full moon.
Hayden decided to go out for a walk in the woods that night just to get some fresh air and clear his head, although it seems that fate had other plans for him.
Through the trees up high in the night sky was the luminous full moon overhead. And that's all Hayden needed as his eyes turned yellow and black and this searing pain shot through him as he went to his knees yelling in pain. The sound of his bones began to crunch and break his teeth began to change as his incisors grew and Hayden let out a low growl that sounded like a pissed off dog. Soon enough his body took the form as his hands and feet became paws and his skin turned to pitch black fur all over his face turned into a snout.
The transformation was complete at last Hayden was now a werewolf.
Hayden felt funny as he noticed a different view and felt slightly heightened as far as his senses went. His first step toward felt weird only for him to look down and see a…paw!
What the fuck?
It seemed appropriate then he turned around only to see his shirt and jeans torn apart, did he do that?
Hayden just remembered that there was a pond not far from here and took off like a speeding bullet and didn't even try that hard but clearly it was a wave of wind as he ran through the woods, the rush kinda felt great.
When he finally made it to the pond where at the edge in the reflection of the water he saw glowing yellow eyes instead of his natural blue ones, in the place of his human body was the form of a pure muscle of a wolf.
Hayden could barely think as thoughts were zooming around in his head at light speed he couldn't find his words, then again he couldn't really say any either but if he could the one that would be piling out of his mouth would be pretty rated R.
However an ear piercing scream that rang throughout the woods seemed to snap him out of his thoughts. For a moment Hayden could swear that he recognized that scream. Putting his sense to good use sniffing the air catching a familiar scent.
Caroline.
With that he darted following the trail and stopped a little ways away to find Tyler standing off to the side, and some other guy that he's seen with his crush Elena Gilbert, and of course Caroline whimpering on the ground being pinned down by another wolf with the same glowing yellow eyes only there were two differences he could see. One being that this wolf was slightly smaller than himself with white and grey fur, and two it looked more what's the word…savage.
And right now it looked like it was about to make a meal out of Caroline.
What happened next was a blur, literally.
Stefan was trying to get Caroline to safety after she attacked Matt Donavan her boyfriend, and thee was a werewolf that was after them and to make matters worse they ran into Tyler Lockwood an unnecessary witness that they needed. Now there was a vicious werewolf pinning her down, ready to kill the poor girl.
Suddenly a black streak that was barely visible enough as it was almost like a shadow went by him and knocked the wolf off of Caroline who had a few tears streaming down her eyes as she looked up to see another werewolf.
Only this one was bigger, much bigger and it had black fur so black that she could barely tell if it was fur or not. It was almost like it was…protecting her?
That sure had her stumped since she was still a new vampire and didn't know much about being one and suddenly now there are werewolves that have a habit of wanting to kill vampires. One was just about to make dinner out of her, and now there's currently another one that just saved her ass.
She took this time to crawl away noticing the grey werewolf now facing off with the black werewolf.
There were a few snarls and growls between them until the black one let out a ferocious roaring growl that actually makes the grey one whine and back up a bit.
"No!" Tyler yells out at the grey wolf getting its attention. Stefan notices this. A second later it takes off into the woods.
Stefan helps Caroline to her feet, they both hear the low grumbling from the remaining werewolf as it slowly turns to face them looking rather calm to say the least it eyes both of them and then Tyler and then the black wolf is gone like the wind.
Caroline's expression was a mix of skeptical confusion, "Is it just me or did that werewolf seem a bit…tame?" She quietly asked Stefan.
Stefan's face matched Caroline's walking up to her side, his gaze following after the wolf.
Hayden wakes up on the ground covered in dirt and is buck naked from head to toe. The last thing he remembers was saving Caroline from that other wolf running off and then wandering around the woods for a bit and then a familiar sensation of pain and then….nothing!
Hayden guesses he must've passed out, possibly a side effect of the transformation.
Covering his sensitive parts he eventually found his way out of the woods and given the time of night in this small town barely anyone was out at this time of night so it made it easy to get home without drawing attention to himself.
Of course he got new shoes since his other ones were ripped up while he was busy turning into a dog. Which begs the real question WHAT THE HELL IS HE????
No matter how hard he tried it's the question that kept following him, eventually he got his answer from common sense, what kind of guy turns into a wolf when there's a full moon in the sky the answer is believe it or not, a Werewolf!
Yep, he's a actual real fucking life werewolf in the flesh, and fur when it counts.
Hayden still didn't know how or why he was a werewolf in the first place, truth be told he didn't give a shit really, but what he does give a shit about is being able to put himself on lockdown though every month when the lunar cycle reaches a full moon so he doesn't have to chance anyone getting hurt when he turns especially with all the regular animal attacks going on in Mystic Falls which is weird enough as it is.
Luckily he found an old abandoned building one of the originals from the founders days in this town from the looks of it. But after doing a few shifts at the Mystic Grill he managed to make enough cash to buy some chains thick ones and made sure to bolt them nice and tight to the wall and floor.
"The thing is though Tyler didn't trigger his curse until after Mason's death, so then who's the other werewolf?" Elena asked more to herself than the others.
Damon whose as careless as ever pouring himself a glass of whiskey, "So what one more mutt doesn't make a difference especially after A whole bunch of them were put down not to long ago remember." He smugly remarks taking a sip from his glass.
Meanwhile Caroline was on the couch sitting next to Elena in deep thought, she couldn't help but feel that there was something familiar about that wolf the was it was so restraint.
And the way it looked at her it was as if it was looking at a friend.
That's when the lightbulb goes off in her head, she shoots to her feet, "I got it, Stefan remember the way that wolf looked at us last month it's almost like it was looking at a friend, and Tyler said that the werewolf curse can only be triggered by killing someone either on purpose or by accident, and given the amount of killings that weren't caused by vampires on humans I'm pretty sure I have a good idea who our mysterious werewolf is."
Hayden was at home watching some TV when he hears a knock at the door, his grandma was out at the moment. He opened the door to come face to face with his former/secret crush Elena Gilbert, with the guy that Hayden saw last month during his first full moon out in the woods.
Hayden gives a surprised look, "Hey Elena how you doing, and who's the bad boy here?" He joked.
A small chuckle escaped her lips, "I'm doing fine Hayden. This is by boyfriend, Stefan Salvatore!" Elena introduced the good looking guy next to her. Any other guy can take one good look and see that women would start lining up to get into his pants.
"Nice to meet you Hayden." Stefan greeted warmly.
Hayden returned the gesture taking his hand shaking it.
Elena hesitated looking at the floor contemplating what she was going to say next.
She finally brought her eyes back to his and spoke, "We know what you are Hayden."
Hayden turned with a passive expression, "I don't know what the hell you're talking about?" He lied.
Elena and Stefan shared a look, "We know that you're a werewolf!" Stefan elaborated.
This caused Hayden to freeze up for a moment.
Stefan could literally hear his heart skip a beat confirming their suspicions.
Hayden turned his head and gave the pair a stoic look before changing to one of amusement.
At last Hayden broke out into laughter, "What the- you think I'm a what?"
"A werewolf!" Elena repeated.
Hayden shook his head trying to sell the act, "Oh god, you two have been watching a little too much Twilight if you think I am a werewolf, don't you think I'd have a little bit more body hair if that was the case, that's a good one!" He laughed.
He turned to go back into the house but Stefan blurred in front of Hayden with his arms across his chest with a blank look clearly showing that he wasn't playing any games today.
"This isn't a joke!" Stefan said flatly.
"Please Hayden don't lie to us, we're not here to fight okay we just want to talk." Elena cautiously explained.
Against his better judgement he decided to hear them out. Especially Elena in the time that he's known her she meant well, one of the main things they had in common was that they both lost their families to fatal accidents.
"Where'd I slip up? How did you know?" He asks lowly in defeat.
Elena and Stefan shared a look with each other.
"This might take awhile so do you mind if we come in, literally because I have to be invited in by you?" Stefan asks.
Hayden nods, "Yeah sure come on in." He waves them over opening the door closing it behind them, this oughta be good.
Stefan and Elena gave Hayden the basics on Werewolf 101. It's safe to say that what the stories say and what really causes it were two different things. But Hollywood cinema sure didn't do their homework.
Apparently werewolf's only become werewolf's after getting blood on their hands otherwise the curse remains dormant until then. And of course the first time Hayden started getting his fast healing and enhanced strength and overall turning was after the incident with Greg which was the trigger in his case.
Not only that but it turns out that Vampires existed as well and they were also kind enough to give him a bit of Vampire 101 as well and Hayden just happened to be talking to one the not so tall, somewhat dark, and well he wouldn't give Stefan that last one.
After they finished talking they just sat in a few minutes of silence Stefan and Elena watching Hayden fidgeting with his hands as well as constantly changing his posture a few times they could see the usual reaction that most people got once they found out about the existence of other supernatural creatures.
Hayden finally managed to gather his thoughts to put them into words letting out a deep breath, "Okay…so I'm a werewolf and your a vampire and so it your older brother and so is Caroline, wow the world is a bit smaller and weirder than I thought."
"Well that's an understatement." Stefan comments casually.
"No shit!" Hayden responds.
"By the way glad I could help a while back with the other wolf, who was that by the way?" Hayden puts out there.
This strikes Elena and Stefan as surprised when he says this.
Hayden of course catches their looks and arches an eyebrow.
"What?"
Stefan leans forward, "Well we're just surprised because when a werewolf turns they become savage, feral, they don't remember anything at all of what happens until after the full moon, and then they usually wake up naked with no memory!"
Well that's a slight surprise, Hayden just shrugs, "Well I still don't know about the whole becoming a wolf shtick that I got going on here but I do know that when I do turn I don't really miss out on much, trust me." He assures.
Stefan and Elena only look that much more shocked.
"Hayden, werewolf's aren't suppose to be aware of anything at all after they turn, so how are you able to stay in control?" Stefan asks with a hint of sheer curiosity.
Hayden scratches the back of his neck, "The hell if I know I thought that it was natural I mean are there any others in Mystic Falls that are werewolf's besides me why don't you go and ask them?" He suggests.
"Actually there are, or were some other werewolves in town." Elena explains.
Of course she was truthful in the story of the Lockwood's werewolf curse and went on to Hayden about how Tyler the bane of his existence and his uncle Mason Lockwood are both werewolf's and how Mason was killed off, of course when Hayden asked why Tyler's uncle was back in town for so long aside from attending his brother's funeral and helping out the family still, but all Hayden got was a worried look from his guests who obviously knew the reason why but just chose not to share it stating it was some that was on a 'need to know' basis. Hayden decided to let it go for now. But that look in their eyes was not good news at all he liked to think that he had a sixth sense for stuff like that.
Of course Elena and Stefan told Hayden they would stay in touch and to reach out if anything came up or he just needed someone to talk to which he appreciated.
I know I'm kinda ending it short but hey it's better than nothing I mean I already put 4K into this chapter which was originally 6K with the other half that I decided to push off into the next chapter, please leave comments and tell me what you think comments always help me get more motivation. Until next chapter see ya.
