Welcome back and enjoy this sorta small flashback story
Three years ago
Mateo walked around the street wearing a cloak to cover his ears. "Do you really have to wear that dear?" Ava asked through her mask while in her uniform as Mateo stayed silent as they were patrolling the street with a few scouts. "Can you please not look at it?" "But didn't you do this to..."
"Blend in yes, but now everyone keeps staring..." Ava then took off Mateo's hood showing his cut and crooked ears. "Ava..."
"Mateo you look like any witch here I'm sure no one will..." Soon a few whispers came out as Ava then shouted "If your want to offend the Leader of the emperor's coven then I hope you all enjoy staying in the cold dark dungeons!" Ava shouted as a few witches stayed silent and quickly went back to doing their usual things.
"Thanks..." "Don't mention it." He smiled at her as she slightly blushed under her mask as they continued walking. "So any plans for the rest of the day?"
"You mean besides the usual wild witch hunt? Not much comes to mind and remember we only have a single free day to ourselves out of a whole year, but I'm glad you're on this patrol with me."
Ava smiled at him behind her mask as the two walked with the scouts before stopping and looking around as they searched a house for illegal objects before confiscating a few forged crystal balls as well as arresting a few witches involved. "Oh come on! The local librarian was been charging overprice for late fees everyone knows it!" A witch yelled as he was dragged into a prison carriage.
"Well that's one forget down and a lot more to go." "Really these things are what?" "One hundred snails each? That's..." Ava didn't finish as one of the captured witches then ran away as the guards gave chase. "It never ends does it?" "No."
Mateo sighed before he gave chase as the witch went into the market with Mateo and guards in tow before dodging a few spells when Mateo then teleported in front of him and quickly knocked him out with his staff. "Come on!" He then grabbed the witch by the arm.
"Oh yeah, I've heard of you the human who thinks they're a witch, what's next? Going to get a bile sac?" Mateo held his anger before punching him in the face as the guards then showed up. "He was resisting."
A few months ago
"Let me get this straight you want me to give you an illegal bile sac?!" A failed healing coven member asked Mateo as he was in the night market. "Yes, you heard me and no one needs to know about this, and well since you failed to finish your tests then I'll have no choice but to charge you for leaving a coven hence making you a wild witch and you know what we do to wild witches, do you?"
He told him handing him a bag of snails. "No... sir." "Well unless you want to know firsthand then do it." The doctor gulped before grabbing a clipboard. "So tell me about your history of health."
After a few hours and lots of recovery healing Mateo returned back to the castle all weak and nauseous Mateo then coughed a bit of blood before wrapping the poorly stitched scars with bandages as he drank a bottle of apple blood to help with his nauseous before looking at a mirror and seeing himself, cut round pointy ears, sharp fangs, and discolored and weary eyes from staying awake most nights as he slept.
Present
Mateo screamed as he clutched his chest in pain as the coven sigil on his wrist began giving out a gold-like color that began to spread across his veins as he then quickly opened his drawer to pull out a pain-reviling potion and quickly drank it as the pain began to slow down as he stood up.
"Still not used to this thing inside my body, it seems my heart still needs to get used to it," He said as the pain then stopped making him calm down before he started writing in his journal while drinking more potions.
"Year... four or five I believe, years have passed by like days, my life has never left so better but still I have a promise I made to Ava to keep and I hope I can complete it someday and reunite with my family, and maybe even perhaps show Ava my world."
"Although I can not comprehend the insufferable pain following my 'evolution' the blood leaking from my ears and gums, hurting my mouth with each bite of food I take, the pain my heart has from the bile sac fluids entering it, and the swelling of my veins from my brand... but I must fight if I ever want to find my way back home."
He finished writing as he looked at the brand on his wrist to which he started drawing he took a sheet of paper and drew a single Glypth on a blank sheet as a ball of light came out. "Fascinating." He then started drawing it more and more before drawing it in his diary which had two other glyphs.
"You make it look easy Camila, you find three of them after only a year while it took me a two years and a half just to find one embedded on a tree next in front of fire bees and another year while in a snow blizzard up the knee."
He shivered after saying that before grabbing a knife and started carving on the wall. "Line there, a few curves, fire, two more ice glyphs, and... done." he stopped and looked at the large combo glyph before tapping at it.
"Please work..." It then glowed before exploding in front of him. Mateo then coughed as his clothes were covered in soot.
"DAMN IT!" He yelled before driving the knife into his desk and scratching it before crossing off a number from a list that read Glyph Experiments. "Great, I guess steve won't mind cleaning the place again." He thought before he grabbed a few banned books about the history of magic and the boiling isles he gotten from a raid and began reading them. "The study of wild magic and its effects... interesting."
