This story takes place 1500 years after the Scorching
A cold wind flew through the NightWing Kingdom.
It was a young night as the sun disappeared allowing the moon to shine its light on the kingdom for the night. The wind howled and shrieked as if it had witnessed a horrible accident, though it appeared that only one dragon was able to hear it.
"What was that?"
A young NightWing dragonet looked out of her room's window.
"I hope it was just the wind". She sighed. It's going to be a boring night, isn't it?
Her parents had left for a party that her father's friend was hosting and her brothers had gone to a gathering with their clawmates supposedly to work on a class project, but she had a feeling they were fixing to play a prank on the academy when classes started again tomorrow. Which only left her older sister, Penumbra, who was studying ferociously in her room for an exam she has in a few days.
Penumbra had received a vision that the exam would be extremely difficult, so she had shut herself in her room and had been studying for almost an entire day. Curious, she tried to read her mind the night before to see how she was but could not break into Penumbra's mind. "It was always hard to read her mind." She paced back and forth in her room in boredom.
Maybe it wouldn't hurt if I checked on her.
She went to Penumbra's room and knocked on her door.
"Penumbra? I just wanted to check if you were ok".
There was no answer.
"Penumbra?"
She opened the door to find Penumbra sleeping on the floor with notes scattered around the room.
Oh dear, she's really tired isn't she?
She looked at the notes on the floor.
I could help organize her room before she wakes up to help her out.
Before she could even pick anything up, Penumbra woke up with a yelp which startled her.
"Starseer, what are you doing?", Penumbra said in a sleepy voice.
She got up from the floor, her eyes were sunken from studying all day.
"I was just trying to organize your notes." "
Oh, well thank you but I'll do it myself. Are Mother and Father at the party across town?"
"How did you know? Oh wait."
"Yep, I saw it in a vision a few days ago", she yawned. "Unfortunately I didn't see if they left any snacks for us, wanna go check?"
"Sure."
They walked into the kitchen and started to look for snacks.
"You think there's any fruit left?"
"No, it would have gone bad by now Starseer. Well it seems we don't have anything to eat. Don't worry I'll go get something later at the market after I'm done studying."
She walked back to her room.
"Oh and Starseer, don't go outside for a while. I've received a vision that something inconvenient will happen to you but I'm not sure, it could've been a dream or something I don't know. Just to be safe, try not to go outside ok?"
"I think I can do that."
"Good, good, well I'll be in my room, knock if you need anything."
Penumbra closed her door and Starseer heard a small thud.
"Penumbra?"
She opened the door to find Penumbra sleeping on the floor again.
Wow, I knew she was tired but not this tired. She got out a blanket and covered Penumbra with it.
She walked to her own room and decided to organize her collection of bird feathers. Birds have always fascinated Starseer, being one of the few creatures to fly alongside dragons. She kept track of what birds she saw in her area and would often try to sketch them if she had the chance. Owls were often a common sight to her, often seeing them hunt rabbits and mice in the fields. She would see seagulls and albatrosses when she visited the coast early in the morning. S always wanted to see birds of the rainforest, birds being of every color of the rainbow, it would be amazing to see them in their natural habitat.
One day.
As she was organizing her collection she heard a strange chirping noise outside her window.
"What is that?"
She looked out and sitting on top of a branch was a tui.
A tui? Out here this late?
She only ever saw them in the scrolls her parents would buy for her
"Wow, a real tui. Incredible."
She got out a piece of paper and began to sketch the tui down. As she was sketching she noticed something strange. The tui's feathers were a strange hypnotic red color.
Their feathers can't be red, right?
She placed the sketch on her desk only being able to sketch a crude drawing of the tui's head. The tui turned in Starseer's direction, locked eyes with her and flew down to her window.
"Hello little tui, you're a unique one aren't you."
The tui nodded.
"Wait, can you understand me?"
The tui nodded.
"That's…impossible. How?"
The tui only stared back and flew away.
I must've been seeing things.
Starseer walked away from the window, about to take a nap but suddenly heard the same strange chirping noise. She turned around to find the tui chirping at her window.
"What is it?"
The tui flew off again and returned, chirping.
"Do you want food?"
The tui shook its head no.
"Directions?"
The tui shook its head no.
"Do you want me to follow you?"
The tui nodded.
A/N: Hey guys CrystalDynamite here. Just posting this story for Halloween, so sorry for not updating my other story, I should be able to release the next chapter for it in a couple days or so. Sorry if the quality of this story is quite low, I kind of rushed it to meet the Halloween date. If you see any grammar errors let me know and I should be able to fix it.
