(Luke's POV)
Friday night had been filled with emotions after the Breakfast Club read my story. After we had finished reading and aired out all of our emotions, Claire and I had gone home. Luckily, Mr. and Mrs. Standish mainly stayed out of our way. Claire told me that she had raged at her mom over her overbearing and how she was using her daughter as a pawn, so her parents were making more of an effort to not be on her case 24 hours a day.
"Luke, I thought that your essay was really amazing," Claire said as we went upstairs.
"Thank you, Mrs. Schmidt wanted us to write about something that changed our lives and meeting you guys completely altered my life," I replied as we moved towards her door.
"You changed my life too, for the better," she stated as she opened the door to her bedroom.
"Well, I had fun tonight."
"Me too."
"Good night Claire," I said as I kissed her on the lips. I turned to go to my room when Claire put her hand on shoulder.
"Wait Luke, come in for a minute," she pleaded as she stood in the doorway.
"Your old man says we can't be in each other's rooms," I reminded my girlfriend. "Not by ourselves anyway."
"They're downstairs, they won't come in," Claire argued as she took my hands in hers. "Please Luke, I need to be with you."
For what it's worth, I tried to obey the rules, but Claire was looking so sexy...nature called. I followed her into the bedroom and we began to make out hard. I loved the way her skin felt as I caressed her legs. We didn't do anything serious that night, but I got such intense pleasure out of what little we did do that I didn't really care. When I was with Claire, I felt that I was loved. I felt that I was safe. I forgot all about my past and only focused on the here and the now. The Breakfast Club had changed my life, but it had also changed hers. Claire wasn't the stuck up rich bitch she had once been. Claire had become so kind and so caring not just to me, but to all of our friends; even John Bender himself. She was so good to me and I was trying to be better so that I could be the kind of boyfriend that she deserved. She made me want to be a better person. Claire made me feel like I could be a better person and I was going to be. That was what she and the resr of the Breakfast Club and down for me and I couldn't be more grateful.
The next morning, Claire and I went downstairs for breakfast and the look on her parents's faces told me that I was in some deep shit. "What's wrong?" I inquired as Mr. Standish looked at his wife.
"Luke, your mother is coming over," Mrs. Standish stated. My stomach immediately did a back flip. The last person that I wanted to see was the bitch who gave birth to me.
"Screw this!" I exclaimed as I got up and started to head back to my room. Claire wouldn't let me go though.
"Luke please," she begged. "You can't run away from her forever." I didn't say anything because I was just so angry.
"I can't..." I muttered as Claire took my hand and put it to her lips.
"I'm gonna be right there for you," she promised. I still was desperate to get out of seeing my mom, but having Claire by my side would definitely be appreciated. After lunch, my mom showed up and my stomach was so nauseous that I was worried that I was gonna barf up my lunch. As the woman walked in, she looked at us with a look in her eyes that was a mixture of hate and defeat.
"Hello son," she said as she stood in front of the Standishes and myself.
"I'm not your son," I told her as I looked her dead in the eye. "You made that clear to me years ago."
"Look, I'm not hear to go back and forth with you," she replied. "After the...incident with your father, CPS has been sniffing around trying to take Dustin away from me. I've been able to hold them at bay, but if I don't convince them that he is safe, they're gonna take him away from me."
"What do you want?" I asked.
"Tell them that I never hurt Dustin!" she exclaimed. "You have to, I am your mother!" I suppressed the urge to laugh in her face.
"There are a lot of things that I can call you and mom is not one of them," I spat back. "I'm gonna call you a heartless witch and believe me, that is being very kind."
"I don't care what you think of me, I just want you to tell them the truth."
"What truth?" Claire interjected. "You mean the truth about how you constantly blame him for your bad choices and how you made him feel so worthless!" Claire began to tear up as her mother went over to comfort her.
"Mrs. Henderson, I think you should go," Mr. Standish stated. My mom tried to say something, but she just walked away to her car, a broken woman. Once she had left, I broke into tears as Claire took me in her arms.
"I hate her, I swear to God," I wept as my girlfriend let me cry.
"I know honey, you're wonderful and she doesn't deserve you," Claire told me as she kissed my head.
