WE DO NOT OWN THE BREAKFAST CLUB. THANK YOU TO ANYONE WHO HAS REVIEWED THIS STORY.
Monday. April 9, 1984. Shermer High School. Clarendon Hills, Illinois.
The next day, I tried to drown myself in my schoolwork. It didn't do much good though. I was still pissed about how Claire's parents were banning her from hanging out Allison and Bender. Claire was upset about it and I knew that Allison was too. Claire was the only girlfriend that she had and Allison was a lot happier than she had been now that she had a gal pal to hang out with. Now that Mr. and Mrs. Standish thought that she was scum, she was taking it pretty hard.
"See you at lunch?" Claire asked as art class let out.
"You know it," I replied as I kissed and we went our separate ways. As I was going to my locker, Bender stopped me in the hallway.
"Hey Monét, I need to talk to you," he said as he motioned me to follow him into the boys bathroom.
"What's going on Bender?"
"Allison isn't giving me any action, that is what's going on." That caught me off guard, usually Bender didn't discuss his relationship with any of us.
"You mean, you two have been...?"
"I haven't been slipping her the hot beef injection if that's what you mean," Bender clarified. "She's not ready for it yet, but we've been fooling around." I wasn't sure that I wanted to know the great John Bender considered fooling around to be.
"Ok...well I don't know what this has to do with me," I said.
"I was hoping you could help her out," Bender explained. "You know, find some way to get those two together." I sighed, I wasn't really wanting to get in the middle of some forbidden friendship scheme, but Bender was probably gonna keep on harping about it until I caved.
"Fine, I'll see if I can work something out with Claire and Allison, all right?" I relented as Bender gave me a fist bump.
"Appreciate it," he said as he exited the boys bathroom and left to contemplate how the Hell I was going to arrange secret liaisons with the princess and the basket case.
Standish Family Home
After school let out, Mr. Standish gave us both a ride home. As soon as we got there, Claire helped me put some of her brother's good clothes. She was excited for me, but I have to be honest with you, I was feeling sort of nervous.
"You think this is going to go all right?" I asked my girlfriend as she straightened out my tie.
"Of course," Claire assured me as she gave me a peck on the cheek. "Art is your passion, they would have to be crazy not to hire you."
"I've just...never applied for a job before," I admitted.
"You are going to be just fine, OK?" She asked as I nodded. Once I was ready, I headed down the stairs and went to catch the bus.
The Artist's Guild
Forth five minutes later, the bus arrived at the store and I got off of it. I straightened my tie as I went into the store. I was damn near drooling as I saw all the shelves that were filled with art supplies. My parents had never supported my dreams of being a professional artist, so I had to work with whatever I could get my hands on. Hopefully, if I could land the job here, I could get some kind of employee discount on the supplies. I went up to one of the employees.
"Hello, how may I help you?" he asked.
"Do you know where the manager's office is?" I asked in return.
"Down the aisle and to the left." I thanked him and headed in that direction. When I got to the door, I saw that it was open. Inside was a skinny white woman who was doing her nails.
"Um...hello?" I said as she looked at me.
"Can I help you?" she asked nonchalantly.
"I noticed that there was a help wanted sign in the window and I was hoping that you still had some positions available," I explained as she stood up.
"There are," she replied as she got out a blank piece of paper. "Draw me something." I was definitely caught off guard by this request.
"You mean now?"
"No, I mean in ten years, of course now!" I sighed as I leaned against the door and tried to think of what I could draw to impress this woman. Suddenly, I thought of Claire. I immediately started to sketch her face. I could see her chocolate brown eyes, her cherry lips, her red hair and her freckles that dotted her skin. A lot of people don't like freckles, but I thought they made Claire look even more sexy. Once I finished, I showed the sketch to my potential employer.
"So...what do you think?" I asked nervously.
"I think you got talent kid," she replied. "I don't hire anyone unless they have a little talent and you have it in spades."
"Thank you," I said as the woman rose up and shook my hand.
"I'm Jodie, your new boss."
"I'm Luke."
"You start tomorrow Luke," Jodie said. "You should go tell your girlfriend...I assume that's who this is."
"Yes miss, I will!" I insisted as I walked out of her office. I will admit, I was feeling pretty damned pleased with myself. I had scored my first job and without help from anyone. I couldn't wait to tell Claire and the rest of the Breakfast Club. Hell, maybe this could even give me an opportunity for Claire and Allison to resume their gal pal relationship.
SORRY FOR THE WAIT. WILL LUKE BE ABLE TO BRING CLAIRE AND ALLISON TOGETHER? REVIEWS NEEDED AND APPRECIATED.
