Wolfie: I still don't own anything related to Scooby Doo, just my oc so please don't steal her. Here's where we focus a bit more on Penny after the two year time skip that happens in the movie. Also sorry for all the Daphne bashing I'm doing, I'm normally a fan of her, but I just do not like this portrayal of her for some reason. Now please read, review, and I hope you like the book so far.

Chapter 2: Two years later

In a loft apartment in downtown New York sat Penny Rogers, a pencil and sketchbook in hand as she put the finishing touches on a drawing. It had been two years since Mystery Inc broke up after solving the case of the Luna Ghost. It had also been one and a half years since Shaggy and Scooby told her to go fulfil her dream of becoming an artist. Though she did more than that, not only was she an artist but she had her own book as well. It was a compilation of all of the mysteries that the gang had solved as well as drawings of the creeps they unmasked. All of the pictures had been done by memory, and with a little help from the internet blogs about said creeps. Everything had of course been written from her perspective as well seeing as it is her book and had her name on it.

Despite the names of the people who were unmasked were public she was nice enough not to not go into too much detail about them. After all it was bad enough they got arrested, they didn't need crazed fans calling them evil. And that seemed too cruel for Penny to cause to happen to them... Nevertheless she was proud of her book and knew her brother and Scooby were proud of her because of it too. Penny had just finished drawing a picture of Scooby that she was going to send to Shaggy for his birthday when there was a knock on the door. At first she thought it was nothing, assuming one of her neighbors was moving something and ended up knocking it into the wall. Only to have the person who knocked end up knocking again as she groaned and headed to the door.

When she opened the door it a tan young man with a net crossbody bag, sandals, khaki pants, and a white t shirt with on withe the word "Spooky" over his left peck. Penny was confused to say the least seeing as she doesn't exactly recognize the man. Which made her wonder why he was at her door because he's certainly not her mail man or an Amazon delivery man. And ontop of all of that she didn't order anything so it made no sense for a delivery man to be at her door in the first place. Then her mind immediately jumped to the assumption that this guy was one of the creeps Mystery Inc had unmasked and was here for revenge! Her hand, hidden by the door, slowly inching towards the house phone on the table near the door just in case.

"Uh, can I help you?" Penny asked with a raised eyebrow as she noticed the big envelope with her name on it.

"Yes I'm looking for a Miss. Rogers, the detective." The messenger said hoping that he was at the right address.

"I am her, but I'm afraid my detective days have been over for quite some time. So if you're here about a mystery I'm sorry, but I can't help you." Penny said as she went to shut the door so she could get back to her drawing.

"Oh, no. I've been sent by my employer, Mr. Emile Mondavarious, to invite you to his world famous amusement park, Spooky Island." The messenger said before Penny could begin to shut the door as he held up the envelope for her to say.

"Sorry, amusement parks never were my thing. Even when I was a detective." Penny said as she'll never forget how she was nearly trampled by Charlie the Haunted Robot.

"But Mr. Mondavarious would like you to solve a mystery. He'll pay you a fee of 10,000 American dollars." The messenger said as he was told to try anything in order to get her to agree.

"No thanks, besides I make that plus more each week when I get a check from my publisher." Penny said plus she always enjoyed mysteries because of her friends, brother, and dog, not because of the money.

"He'll provide you with free airfare." The messenger said hoping free travel would win her over.

"That's sweet but I could pay for it myself." Penny said effectively shooting down any hopes of her agreeing to that.

"Room and board." The messenger tried again as he was running out of ideas.

"No I think I'm good." Penny said once again shooting down any hope of her agreeing to that.

"And, the most beautiful views and exotic animals. Perfect for sketching and painting." The messenger said as his final offer, knowing that he got Penny hook line and sinker when her eyes lit up at that offer.

"Ok, you got me. When does the plane leave?" Penny asked as she accepted the envelope from the messenger.

"Everything you need and need to know is in the envelope, ma'am." The messenger said as he left in order to report to his boss that all of the envelopes had been delivered.

Penny slowly shut the door as the messenger left, sitting down on her couch as she opened the envelope. Inside was a brochure about Spooky Island, the address of the airport, the only available flight times, and any possible layover plans. It was honestly very disturbing that practically everything had been already planned out for her. Almost like this Emile Mondavarious person had known that she would agree to come to his amusement park. With a sigh she set aside everything and went into her room, packing a carry on bag that would have everything she needs. Penny had a feeling that she wasn't the only one that was being invited to Spooky Island for this mystery. She couldn't help but smile at the fact that this meant she'd get to see Shaggy and Scooby as well as Velma.

Though a small blush came to her face as she realized something, she may also get to see Fred again. No one but Velma knew that Penny had, has, a crush on Fred but never could approach him about it because of one person. Daphne, that danger prone whiny red head was always clinging to Fred every chance she got and was always depending on him to save her. Immediately claiming the middle front seat next to him as her seat, saying that no body but her could sit in that seat. Fred certainly didn't help matters by always saying the teams were him, Daphne, and Velma and Shaggy, Scooby, and Penny when splitting up to look for clues. And she never complained because, well, she wanted to keep from having Daphne badmouth her to Fred. This is because Penny never wanted any chance for her to be with him to be ruined, that is, if she even ever has a chance to be with him.

Still, that doesn't mean she has given up hope just yet when it comes to possibly dating Fred. Because unless she sees him with some girl clinging to his arm, kissing him and calling him babe, then she has a chance no matter how slim it may be. With a small groan she finished packing and put the bag on the floor before practically collapsing onto her bed. Almost immediately falling asleep without even getting under the covers, knowing she needs to be up early as the plane leaves tomorrow. Her dreams filled with nothing but thoughts of how this most likely to happen reunion of Mystery Inc will go down. More importantly, her dreams were filled with thoughts about how seeing Fred again will go down. The next day Penny was walking through the airport, boarding pass in hand as she was looking for the right gate.

Adjusting the strap of her carry-on bag so it's higher up on her shoulder as she does this. Whilst she was walking she noticed a familiar ascot wearing blonde walking in the same direction she was and had to do a double take. The first thing she noticed right off the back was he cut his hair and seemed more of a bleach blond now and he seemed, taller. As she looked at him she felt her heart race, it was one thing to assume that she'd see him again but it was another thing to actually see him again. Just seeing him brought back so many fond memories of helping him put traps together and solving mysteries. And she nearly tripped over her own two feet as she remembered his smile, that stunning heart stopping smile of his. The one that made so many girls love him and lust after him and made so many boys want to be like him so they could get girls.

Penny had to quickly shake her head and wipe at her mouth when she realized that she was drooling over Fred. Plus she was worried that if he noticed her before she said anything and didn't recognize her that he'd think she's a creepy fangirl. Penny honestly would just die right then and there if Fred not only didn't recognize her but thought she was creepy too. Though it's not like she's changed much in the two years that Mystery Inc has been disbanded and they all went their separate ways. Her wavy dusty brown hair was still at a manageable shoulder length and she still wasn't the girliest girl in the world either. Not with her skinny high waisted black jeans, aquamarine blue short sleeved shirt, matching combat boots, and black leather jacket. But she was still pretty and was still the same old Penny Rogers he knew from two years ago, minus the successful book and sought-after art.

"Fred?" Penny asked just to make sure it is him, even though she's positive it is, and not some guy that looks like him. Upon hearing his name he looked towards the source of the voice as put his sunglasses away.

"Penny?" Fred asked with a small smile, seeing her at the same airport that he was in was certainly a happy coincidence. "Are-are you going this way?" He asked they were now walking side by side as he pointed in the direction that their gate was in.

"Yeah, yeah I'm going this way." Penny said with a nod as she tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. "It's great to see you again Freddy." She said as this caused Fred to smile even more, he hasn't heard that nickname in quite some time.

"It's great to see you too Pen." Fred said, honestly having missed how adorable Penny is as he watches her green eyes light up with happiness at what he said as she smiled. 'Adorable? When did I start thinking Penny was adorable?' He thought curiously before he shrugged it off as the two of them fell into a comfortable silence for a few moments.

"So, how've you..." Penny trailed off as she broke the comfortable silence, not sure how to ask him this after two years of no contact whatsoever.

"Been?" Fred asked, finishing her sentence as he assumed that that was what Penny was trying to ask him.

"Yeah. How've you been?" Penny repeated now that Fred had basically helped her figure out the right way to phrase that question.

"Great. Great. I'm on the lecture circuit, with my new book." Fred explained as he paused for a moment to pull it out of his carry on bag and showed it to Penny. "Fred on Fred: The Many Faces of Me." He said with a proud smile as Penny looked at the robin egg blue cover that had two different sized pictures of his smiling face on the cover.

"Wow, that's great Fred!" Penny praised, genuinely happy that Fred was doing so well for himself after Mystery Inc was disbanded.

"And yourself?" Fred asked, genuinely curious about what Penny has been doing during the two years that the gang has been broken up.

"Well, for a little while I stayed with Shaggy and Scooby to make sure they would be ok." Penny explained as she remembered how heartbroken Shaggy and Scooby were when the other's left. "Though after one and a half years those two finally got tired of me, told me they'd be ok and that I should go fulfill my dream of being an artist. So I did. Moved to New York, got discovered, and have been selling my art ever since. Oh! And I made a book of my own too." She revealed as she fished her book out of her bag and showed it to Fred, the cover was colored exactly like the Mystery Machine. "The Adventures of Mystery Inc. I uh, I would've sent copies to you, Velma, and Daphne to see what you all thought about it but i didn't know your addresses." Penny said with a sheepish smile, hoping that Fred wasn't angry that she made this book and didn't tell him about it.

"Wow, always knew you had it in you Pen." Fred stated as he grinned, obviously happy about the fact that Penny got to realize her dream of being an artist.

"Thanks Freddy." Penny said as she felt her heart swell with happiness, having Fred be happy for her meant alot to her. "...Here, you can have my copy to read. A-As a way to make up for not sending you one when it came out." She said whilst holding out the book to the ascot wearing male.

"Alight, then how about you take mine too? That way we're even." Fred said as he held out the copy of his book towards Penny as well.

As they traded off books, with Fred taking Penny's book and Penny taking Fred's, their fingers brushed against one another's. This caused the short female to blush slightly and glance off to the side for a moment as she hugged the book close to her chest. When she looked back Penny honestly could've sworn she saw the tiniest of blushes tinting Fred's cheeks pink. Then again it could just be her imagination, after all there's no way someone like Fred Jones could be made to blush so easily. With a small shake of her head she continued to walk side by side with said male, both of them holding onto their newly traded books. It wasn't long though before they got to the gate they were looking for and Penny noticed a familiar orange sweater wearing brunette. Immediately walking over and getting Velma's attention as they both embraced, both girls happy to see one another as Fred sorta stood off to the side.

"Fred." Velma said when the hug broke and she noticed the ascot wearing male standing a little ways behind Penny.

"Velma." Fred said, things sorta getting awkward between him and Velma fast because last they saw one another they left on a sour note.

"Charter service to Spooky Island will begin boarding momentarily." A woman said over the intercom, effectively stopping things from getting anymore awkward as the three of them looked at their boarding passes.

"What do you mean I can't have seven carry-on bags? That's so economy." A familiar voice complained causing Fred, Penny, and Velma to look at one another before looking towards the source. Noticing Daphne, decked out in purple as always, standing infront of a desk with seven suitcases complaining to a woman in a hawaiian shirt.

"Daph?/Crap." Fred, Penny, and Velma said at the same time causing Daphne to turn and lower her purple sunglasses a bit as she stared at them in horror.

"Oh, no.I'm not talking to you guys." Daphne said before pushing her sunglasses higher up on her nose and zipping her lips shut and locking them before throwing away the key as she turned her back to them. This gaining a breathy scoff from Fred and a quiet snicker from Penny as the red head turned back towards them yet again. "What the hell are you doing here?" She demanded after slamming her purple box purse onto the counter.

"Isn't it obvious? We all received the same letter from one Emile Mondavarious, the reclusive owner of Spooky Island." Velma explained, already deducing the fact that that is why they are all at the same gate about to board the same plane.

"It's not fair." Daphne said with a stomp of her foot, much like a four year old having a tantrum as she took her sunglasses off and put them away. "I was going to solve the mystery all by myself for the first time ever." She said as she stomped her way over to the group of three with a pout on her face.

"How are you going to save yourself when you get caught?" Fred asked curiously since during almost every mystery they had ever been on Daphne is usually getting caught whether she wants to be or not.

"I'm a black belt now. I've transformed my body into a dangerous weapon." Daphne said seriously but this only gained a laugh from Fred and Velma as they clearly didn't take that statement seriously.

'Her a dangerous weapon? To people who are causing crimes against fashion maybe, but I'll believe the other one when I see it...' Penny thought as she still had her arms crossed in order to hold Fred's book close, cause this maybe the only thing linked to him she'll get.

"It's true." Daphne insisted, not liking how Fred and Velma were laughing at something that she was so proud of achieving.

"Far out." A familiar voice from behind Penny, Fred, and Velma said as those three turned to see a grinning Shaggy. "I guess we're, like, all going to Spooky Island, man." He said as he walked over, accepting a hug from his little sister as she nearly tackled him into a hug when he got close enough.

"Hey, where's Scooby?" Velma asked as she noticed that the talking Great Dane that rarely leaves Shaggy's side was MIA.

Just as Velma asked that Scooby appeared, walking on his hind legs dressed like a woman. Going as far as wearing stockings, heels, a sun hat, animal print glasses, and carrying a handbag. People staring at him in aw and shock as he walked by, sometimes stumbling because of the heels as no one notice he was a dog. They all just thought that he was a really hairy and ugly lady as he said hello to the people that were staring at him. Penny noticed Scooby right away and had to snicker at the disguise that had been put together for the big canine. It certainly was doing it's job though as it had at least gotten him past the airport security and such. Velma, Daphne, and Fred however were looking to Shaggy for an answer because unlike Penny they did not notice the approaching Scooby Doo.

"They don't allow big dogs on the plane." Shaggy said with a smile as she stood next to Fred and pointed at the approaching Scooby, causing them to look at him too.

"You've got to be kidding me." Velma said with a shake of her head as she watched Scooby strut his stuff and try to sell it that he was human and not a dog.

"No one is stupid enough to believe that." Daphne said clearly offended by the display that Scooby was putting on, or maybe because of the outfit he was wearing.

"Who's the ugly old broad?" Fred asked as he leaned closer to Shaggy, proving what Daphne said to be incorrect as Scooby got to the group and kissed Fred on the cheek.

"Say hello to Grandma." Shaggy said as Fred wiped off his cheek, he always loved Scooby but was never a fan of dog kisses.

"Flight 3774 to Spooky Island now boarding." The woman that Daphne had been complaining to not to long ago said over the intercom, effectively taking everyone's attention away from Scooby.

"Listen. I wouldn't have agreed to come if I knew." Velma said, as much as she enjoyed seeing Penny, Shaggy, and Scooby again she was still on the outs with Fred and Daphne.

"C'mon V, not now, please." Penny pleaded, not wanting this reunion to go south like she thought it would.

"Like wait, just think about it for one minute. Mystery Inc reunites. We'll be a team again, just like the old days." Shaggy said as he was also trying to prevent this from going south and was also hoping to reunite the gang. "So come on, gang, let's do that thing where we all put our hands in, we lift them up and go "whoo-hoo-hoo!"." He said with a smile as he demonstrated what he was talking about as Fred, Daphne, and Velma seemed to be considering what he was talking about.

"Hehe, Shag I think you've watched too many movies." Penny said with a smile, they've never done that before but it did seem like something a team would do so she was on board with it. Anything to help get rid of the bad blood and get the gang back together, she's missed hem all, accept for Daphne though.

"Only if Fred and Velma do it." Daphne stated, she may be on the outs with them but she won't do something as ridiculous as that unless they will too.

"People are watching, Shag." Fred said as he started heading towards the gate to board the plane, giving Penny a small smile as he walks by.

Daphne simply put her sunglasses back on and turned, her hair smacking penny in the face as the red head walks over to collect all of her suitcases. Taking them with her to the gate as she also declined doing it just like Fred had. Leaving only Velma as Shaggy gave her a hopeful smile whilst motioning to the pile of hands that consisted of his, Penny's, and Scooby's with his head. She however just gave the three of them a quick and small apologetic smile before she to turned and headed to board the plane. Leaving behind a disheartened Shaggy, a frowning Penny, and an also disheartened Scooby Doo. Despite being disheartened the big loveable canine still tried to make an effort in order to cheer up the two humans next to him. Wanting them to know that he was with them all the way even if the others aren't.

"Roo-hoo." Scooby said whilst raising his paw up from the pile and into the air like Shaggy said they would causing Penny to smile smally at what he did.

"Yeah, Scoob, "roo-hoo". Come on, buddy." Shaggy said, still disheartened but he didn't want Scooby to feel like he failed at anything.

Together the two siblings and dog disguised as their Grandma boarded the plane bound for Spooky Island. Though they had to go their separate ways in order to find their correct seats on the plane. As Penny walked down the isle looking for her seat she had to dodge something that one of the many college guys was throwing at another college guy. This part of the plane was obviously full of rowdy punks and stoners, that much she was certain of. So let's just say she was both thankful and fearful when she found her seat and sat next to the window. Hoping to any higher power that was listening that she didn't have to sit next to some college guy that would be trying to make a pass at her the whole flight. Penny was then shocked and relieved when Fred stopped at her row and put his bag in the overhead compartment like she had. Keeping out the book he got from her to read just like she had as he sat down in the middle seat next to her.

"Well well well, Fred Jones. Seems you can't get enough of me." Penny joked with a smile as Fred looked at her, returning her smile.

"I guess not." Fred said once again enjoying this happy coincidence as they both got comfortable and prepared for the plane to take off.
