The gem sparkled brightly against the echidna's small palms.
Knuckles, the last remaining echidna. Only a mere child, but tasked with protecting the most powerful thing in the universe.
Tikal stared at the young boy who had only just come out of its egg. How would this boy grow up? Will he do a good job? Wouldn't the lack of any social interaction make him naive or easy to fool?
All of these were questions that Tikal did not have the answer to.
Tikal lost track of where the baby had gone and looked around frantically. Her effect on the physical world was limited, but not knowing was enough to make her worried.
The baby was climbing on top of the giant emerald, where it stood proud and looked outwards towards the horizon, where the floating island continued to advance.
Tikal let out a sigh of relief and smiled.
"He'll do just fine."
