Gon watched as Killua and the Skinwalker darted forward. He jumped into action, grabbing people and chairs and tables and moving them away. His uncanny speed and strength really came in handy for situations such as this one.
He turned around just in time to see the Skinwalker slash at Killua's face-
But miss.
The only thing he slashed was-
Killua's mask!
Gon's eyes widened, he'd never seen his friend's face before.
…
"Hey, Killua?" Gon had asked about five days ago.
"What?"
"Why do you wear a mask?"
Killua had paused, a look of surprise in those sapphire eyes. He clearly had not been expecting such a question. "Just cause," he responded after a short pause.
"Well… can I see under it?" Gon asked.
"Wha- no! No, stupid, no, you can't see under my mask! I wear it for a reason, ya know!"
"But you just said that the reason you wear it is 'just cause,' so if it's 'just cause' then doesn't it not matter if I see your face?"
Killua sputtered for a second. "Well, well, I-I wear the mask so no one can see my face."
"But why?"
"St-stupid, I just don't want anyone to see my face!"
"Is that why you always stop eating when I come over? So I can't see your face?"
"Well, yeah. And no matter how hard you try to sneak up on me it won't work! I'll always put it back on before you get here!"
Gon stuck out his tongue. "Is it your religion? Do you have to keep your face covered for it?"
Killua scoffed in surprise (both at the forwardness of the question and at the fact that Gon still hadn't given up), "Stu~pid, I don't have a religion! I don't believe in all that superstitious mumbo-jumbo. I just wear it cause I don't want anyone to see my face! That's all there is to it!"
Gon had looked at him with a furrowed brow, still confused as to why Killua wanted to keep his face hidden so bad. Then without warning he leapt into action, reaching for Killua's mask at lightning speed. The other boy caught his wrist with ease, and then the other one. They wrestled around for a bit, knocking over a few chairs in the process, but finally Gon gave up on seeing Killua's face.
"I'll see it, Killua, just you wait and see!" he had thought.
Gon had given up for the time being, but now had a new goal. He was determined to see Killua's face!
…
Killua's eyes opened wide in shock, several small gasps were heard from regulars and waitresses alike. The tattered black fabric flew away, revealing a mouth open in shock, to go with those eyes.
Killua had flat teeth, unlike Gon's sharp teeth, except for the incisors on top and bottom, which were pointed and long. That was about the only big reveal about Killua's face, other than the fact that it was unnaturally beautiful.
Killua's so pretty! Why would he ever want to cover his face up? But maybe that in itself is the reason? Cause he doesn't want the attention? He looks kinda like a bat or a cat, what with those ears and the fangs.
"That. Was a Mistake."
A chill ran up Gon's spine as a menacing aura poured off of Killua. He watched as the white haired boy rushed in for the kill. Gon's eyes widened in surprise as Killua actually licked some of the Skinwalker's blood off his thumb, then spit it back out. Declaring that it was disgusting.
Killua must be a carnivorous hybrid, if he likes to eat his opponents. Like a Chimera Ant, a Vampire, or a Pixie. I'm guessing he's part Pixie.
…
Killua wiped the blood on his shirt, skin prickling with the knowledge that everyone could see his full face.
The Valkyrie's eyes widened in surprise as a slow applause started, soon the entire tavern was clapping and cheering! But why?! He looked around in surprise, a cat-like expression on his face.
"Wha-"
"Killua!" Morel's booming voice sounded from behind him and Killua hissed as the enormous Goblin picked up and slung him around. "You're a little badass, aren't you?" He said, finally putting Killua down. Right when the boy thought he was free, the Goblin roughly ruffled his fluffy white hair.
"Hey! Cut it out, would ya old man?!" he exclaimed.
The excitement died down as Knov came over and, using his sorcery, opened a portal and disposed of the Skinwalker's body. The guests chattered in excitement, and the only thing preventing them from swarming Killua was the presence of Morel, Knov, and Palm.
"You did well, Zoldyck," Knov said, pushing his glasses up his nose.
"Does this mean I get a raise?" Killua inquired.
The black haired man sighed, "Fine. I suppose you've earned it.
"Aw, HELL yeah!" Killua said, jumping in a circle and pumping his fist in victory.
"You're stronger than I had first assumed, Killua," the boy in question met Palm's indigo gaze as she spoke. "And daintier."
Killua snarled, attempting to pull his turtle neck up over his "dainty" features.
"Wait!" a cheerful voice and toned hand stopped Killua from covering his face once again. "So that's what your face looks like, huh, Killua?"
Killua suddenly felt even more exposed than before. He was meeting Gon's gaze full on, no longer hiding behind a mask. His anxiety did flips in his stomach, and he tightened his tail around his waist to the point that it hurt and slightly cut off his breathing.
"Yeah I guess so," he mumbled, trailing off towards the end as he shook off Gon's hand and continued pulling his collar up over his nose.
"You should leave it out more often."
"Huh?"
"It's nice being able to see your face!" Gon's smile was practically sunlight itself, it almost burned Killua's eyes to look at. For some reason he found himself lowering his hands, letting his collar fall back to its original position.
"Er, okay."
"Besides, what's the point in covering it now that I know what you look like?" the green haired boy asked mischievously.
"Eh?! Idiot! Don't be so self absorbed! It's not like you're the only person in the world, ya know!"
Neither Gon nor Killua noticed as Morel, Knov, and Palm faded off into the distance, returning to their work. The thought crossed Knov's mind that he was happy for Killua. He was glad the boy had a friend now, he looked so much less lonely with Gon at his side.
