Title: Conversation

Rating: PG

Reason: One use of "damn" even though it's not really used as a cuss word

Series: #2 in my "Finding Our Way" series... #1 is titled "Forbidden"

Pairing: Sam/Jack

Categories: Angst, Romance, double-drabble

Archived: here, a few LJ communities

A/N: For those of you who already read "Forbidden," it was intended to stand alone, but then I figured it'd be better if I continued, so here's the second part of a 5-part series I'm now calling "Finding Our Way."

Conversation

It was their own little way of being together, since the regs kept them from actually being a normal couple. Both of them realized what it was, but never actually dared mention that to anyone else. Of course there were probably a few people who had figured it out, but would tell no one. Like Daniel and Teal'c. To others who weren't close enough or smart enough to see what it really was, these times were just simple conversation over coffee or beers between Major Carter and Colonel O'Neill, as one would see between friends or colleagues. Nothing special.

To Sam and Jack, these times were everything.

In these times, they had such a perfect, easy-going chemistry. Smooth as glass, and nothing between them was ever quarrelsome, or mean, or hurtful… Never anything other than gentle and easy.

No, there was plenty of hurt coming from elsewhere—like those damnable regs. Because the one flaw with these special times was that it could never be anything special, anything more than light conversation and good, friendly times. It could never be more.

They could never be more.

But at least they had these times, Sam thought. At least they had something.
