Hello Readers! Thanks for checking back in. Here's a really short chapter to help me transition to the next chapter. Hope you're all well and happy reading! -Sevy14
-Detective Inspector Shine's Thoughts -
"Detective Inspector Shine, Sir." The Constable said. "You're here so early. Is everything alright, Sir?" He asks.
I give him a look. "Yes. How was the night?" I look him over.
He looks down at his log, "All good, Sir. Three incoming, soon to be released if they're sober."
I nod and do not say anything more. I move across the room and into my office. "Get me some tea, Constable." I hear the scurrying of feet and hang up my coat and drop down on my chair. I look up when a steaming cup is brought it and then its carrier leaves again. I stare at the steam as it flies up into the air, tired from the day before and the lack of sleep I got the night before. The day a busy one for me I open the first case file upon the pile and get started, my mind going from wife to work.
- Emmylyn's Thoughts -
The song of a blue bird awoke me. I lay there, the reality of my new life rushing back to my awareness. I groaned and rolled over, burying my face in the pillow. I lay there for some time longer, hoping to have sleep come take me for a little while longer, but it appeared that it was not to be. Finally after succumbing to know that I would not find sleep until this evening, I sat up and raised my arms up high, stretching and feeling my body elongate with the movement. I slip from the bed and take care of my morning routine. I pull my robe about me before I open the door and look out. Not hearing any movement I move out and down the hallway and go downstairs. The house was quiet and empty. A note from Shine on the kitchen table next to an egg, porridge and some bread let me know he had already left for work. I was relieved knowing that I would not have to be subjected to morning pleasantries. Perhaps I thought he was not totally comfortable himself and as such, snuck himself out as early as possible. My eyes were drawn to the envelope underneath the note. Opening it I saw two folders and reached in to remove them, realizing they were the case files I asked for.
"Hm... Guess he can keep his word." I said aloud. Surprised by Shine actually following through. I sat down and ate the food before me. My mind mulling over the man I was now married too and the case files before me. I had thought I would spend much of the day knitting and sewing, but it looks like now I would be looking over the files. The thought occurred to me that Shine did not leave word on how to reach Jude should I want to go somewhere. Chewing my eggs I shrugged, acknowledging that I would have to dress and then leave without an escort. My stomach flip flopped slightly and knowing that Shine would surely not be as calm or lenient with me should I bump into him, quite literally, again. I had finished my breakfast and I rose, took the dishes to the sink, and washed them. I wondered briefly if Shine had cooked or if he had someone come in. I would have to ask him. I was not one to keep up on housework or laundry, cooking really. With those thoughts, I picked up the folders and made my way upstairs, intent on taking a nice hot bath in the beautiful tub.
