Hello lovely readers, here is a short update for you. I hope to update this story again in the next few days. Please let me know what you think. As I am getting back into the writing, your review would be most helpful.
Upon returning back to Detective Inspector Shine's home I had asked Jude if he wanted anything to eat or drink, the man shook his head indicating 'no' and I left him be. Entering, I locked the door behind me, although I was certain that Jude had a key so the locking of the door seemed silly, but it made me feel safer. I went into the kitchen and made myself some tea. I set the tea up on the dining room table and then took myself upstairs quickly and changed into some more comfortable clothing. I gathered up one of my newly acquired journals and the unsolved case files that Detective Inspector Shine brought home and went back downstairs. I settled in at the table, my feet tucked up under me, leaning forward, the tea held in one hand before. I opened the folder and began to read, flipping through the pages slowly, careful not to spill my tea or smudge anything.
It was an interesting case, a young girl had been found, her head with a hole in it, smashed in, not a bullet wound, her body black and blue from abuse, nails had been bloodied and her fingertips bruised at the time of her death. I was fascinated by the drawing of the body by the doctor and the descriptions they used. As I read through the case file I took notes of details that stood out to me, but also, words that I did not know or quite understand.
"It does not bother you, the contents of the case file?" Detective Inspector Shine's voice cuts through my mind and the silence of the house.
Startled, I look up. "Detective Inspector?!"
He makes a face. "Jedediah." He reminds me and moves forward. As he does so I watch as his eyes go towards my journal, I shut it. At that action he raises his eyebrows.
"When I am ready," I say, "I will share with you what I think." He makes a noise, one that I could not quite identify. "So, why are you here?" I ask.
He drops down onto a chair opposite me after pouring himself a cup of tea. "This is my home." Was his response.
I roll my eyes. "It is the middle of the afternoon, surely you have important copper work to do." I reply to him.
"I do, I thought I would come check on my new wife." He says with an annoyed tone. "Police work, Emmylyn, not "copper work" as you so inaccurately put it."
"How kind." I say to him. He needs something or wants something. Why else would he be here? "So something happened, then?" I inquire.
"Why do you think something happened?" He replies, his eyes bore into me from over the top of his tea cup.
"Well you would not be here if something hadn't." I say. "Besides, it makes sense. This place is immaculate, you do not spend much time here, so if you are it is because you need something." I reason outloud.
Nodding. "That may be. Of course, I could be doing as I said, checking up on you." I look up at Shine from the casefile but don't speak right away.
I shake my head, "You know that I am not a simple person, right?" I say. "Did my Father do something? I assume he did."
"Do you have a dress to wear to a formal function?" Detective Inspector inquires. His face was unreadable.
"Depends on what type of formal function?" I ask, closing the case file, intrigued.
"So you require another dress." He says.
I shrug, "I am not opposed to getting another dress. Does that mean I can go now and buy it?" I say, shuffling the file and my journal to one pile. "Or will you force me to sit here and wait for another day to pass before I am allowed to go to the market?"
Rolling his eyes he stands and moves over the room and drops his teacup by the sink. "You may do as you wish, Mrs. Shine." He says before turning, as he makes his way to the door, "I will be home late this evening, do not wait up." He leaves without waiting for a response.
I humph slightly and shake my head. "Insufferable man." I mutter. I return my journal and the case file to their spot on the table in my room and change my clothes into something more presentable and make my way downstairs, mind racing with where I would be wearing my new dress to and who I would have to be impressing on Detective Inspector Shine's behalf.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed this short chapter. Have a good night. - Sevy14
