The group of travelers (now down to only eight including Kurapika, Killua, Leorio, and Gon) gathered around Satotz for what would be the last time. "Today will be the last leg of our journey!" the mustachioed man declared cheerfully. "We will arrive at an incline within the hour, and at the top of that incline will be the gates of Yorknew City!"
The travelers grumbled and sighed comments of relief. This was only their third day of running with Satotz, but it was exhausting. They had lost more than half of their ranks. Gon bounced on the balls of his feet, giddy with excitement. They were finally gonna get to Yorknew City! Not only that, but they were gonna join an awesome fight-club (a huge understatement) and fight for the reward of a session with a prophetic witch! This was so great! He also had two new friends!
Killua shoved him roughly. "What're you so squirmy about?" he shot at Gon with a smirk.
"I'm excited!" Gon answered.
"As you should be!" Leorio agreed.
Satotz gave the group one last encouraging look, before taking off in those long strides. With a skip in his step, Gon hurried to follow him. Killua and the others were close at his heels. Satotz's words proved true, and within an hour the group arrived at a steep incline. The lanky man took the incline with ease, and soon the group was running upwards toward a beam of distant light. Light from Yorknew City!
…
"Guys," Kurapika said around gasping breaths.
"What?" Leorio moaned, he was sweating like crazy again. "Out with it! This hill is a bitch!"
"I just wanted to," the elf paused to suck in air. "Share an important precaution with the three of you!"
"Oh yeah? What is it?" Gon asked, breathing and voice completely even. Leorio glared at him for his physical superiority.
"Brace yourselves for a shock," Kurapika said. "Yorknew City is unlike any place you have ever seen. Tell me," the elf paused for breath. "What do you think you are walking into?"
"An urban area with huge buildings that touch the sky," Killua answered.
"Where everything is made of crystal and glass!" Gon added.
"And where money and dreams rain from the clouds above!" Leorio finished.
Kurapika smiled. They have no idea.
"I don't like that look," Leorio retorted.
"A fare warning," Kurapika continued. "Yorknew City far exceeds your wildest imaginings. It is a place of a different world, a different time period. You will understand when we arrive, just be prepared for a shock."
"Is that all?" Killua grumbled.
"Don't be rude!" Gon said as he shoved Killua in the arm.
Kurapika snickered (more like choked on air, what with all this uphill running) as the two of them dissolved into yet another hissy fit. They sure had a lot of energy. They had taken all of this fast paced travel in stride, as if it were nothing at all. Meanwhile, Leorio and Kurapika were on their last legs. The Kurta was incredibly grateful for the transportation that Yorknew City sported.
He had visited the city before, and knew all of the ins and outs.
Imagining the looks on his friends' faces when they beheld the incredible metropolis brought a smile to his face. Kurapika was overcome with feelings of anticipation for his near future, an emotion he hadn't experienced in quite a while. He was truly grateful for his friends, they brought such a light to his life.
I cannot wait to see what Yorknew holds for us.
