Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 1 of Promises. I know that the first chapter wasn't much to go on, and I do apologize for that and of course I got ribbed in the comment section about how terrible the first chapter was and on my birthday no less. Hopefully this chapter will bring the readers in much better than the previous chapter. If you don't like it don't read it, and I hadn't even had a chance to develop my character yet and they called her a Mary Sue, and she's not that. Now I'm done with my ranting without further ado Chapter 1 of Promises.

Chapter 1

Lunar sat alone in the home that she had despised for many years stirring a cup of tea that her house elf Kreacher had been so kind enough to make for her. Even though she had been put into Ravenclaw all those years ago, she hadn't gotten the brunt of the discomfort of Walburga Black's tyrannical moods of curses, much to her dismay that was her brother, Sirius who was on the receiving end of it. In her mind she remembered the day that he had run from home at the age of 16 and was blasted from the tapestry. She took a breath as she heard the shuffling of Kreacher's feet heading towards the kitchen.

"Mistress Black." His croaky voice called out holding mail in his hands that had come from an owl that must have arrived sometime earlier.

Lunar turned in her seat and turned to look at the house elf, her dark brow raised. "Kreacher?"

"This came from you, Mistress."

Lunar slowly took the envelope from Kreacher and turned it to see the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Emblem on it. Her brows furrowed wondering why in Merlin it would be showing up here? There was no way that Harry would be here in this wretched home of her's that she called home even though she wished she could find another, but until her brother came back from where he was incarcerated she had no choice but to live here. She waved her hand. "Make me some lunch Kreacher, please."

Kreacher nodded his head and moved towards the kitchen to make her some lunch.

Lunar quickly opened the envelope, biting her lower lip softly. Her brows furrowed as her grey eyes danced across the page taking in what was written across it.

Dear Miss Lunar Black,

We wanted to welcome you to our staff for the new year. We have heard that you have been doing wonderful things at The Ministry of Magic and wish to offer you the job as Professor of History of Magic.

Lunar took a shaky breath. She couldn't believe it, she was being offered a job as a teacher in Hogwarts. She never thought that she would be a teacher there ever or a teacher for that matter. Her eyes went back to the letter.

I am sure that you will be willing to teach the students the way that you want to. I remember well that you wanted to be a teacher when you were in school here before graduating only 10 years prior. We hope you agree to joining us back in our school and I am looking forward to your Owl in reply.

Albus Dumbledore

Lunar slowly closed the letter taking a shaky breath running her hand through her dark hair. Could she do it? Become a teacher, take the rightful place that she had wanted to be in for over 10 years while she was in Hogwarts with her brothers. Her heart constricted in her chest hearing the voices of her brothers echoing in her head. Her youngest brother yelled at her not to do it to continue being part of the Dark Lords task and her twin brother yelled at her to take the job knowing that was what she wanted in all of her years of going to school together.

She waved her hand and a quill and parchment came to her and she wrote quickly her answer. She knew that she needed to be quick about it because she didn't need Kreacher to know what was going on until she made the final choice. She took a breath as she quickly finished writing her answer. She could only hope that she was making the right choice and not only that, what would the teachers think of her coming to teach there after all her family name had been tarnished by her brother, at least according to everyone in the wizarding world and it didn't matter which side you were on good or bad. A tarnished name was always terrible and deemed hard to redeem thyself from what happened.

She looked up when Kreacher came in with her lunch. "Kreacher."

"Yes, Mistress Black?"

"How would you feel about me having a job?"

"You have a job, Mistress, with the Ministry? Are you not happy with your job at the Ministry, Mistress?"

Lunar took a breath as she took a sip of her tea and looked at Kreacher. "I was offered a job."

Kreacher blinked a few times looking at his young Mistress wondering what she was going to tell him. What would this job be so different from the one that she had now at the ministry? "Mistress?"

"A job at Hogwarts."

Kreacher's eyes went wide as he heard the school's name. "Mistress?" He questioned again softly wondering why she was bringing up the school that kind of made her depressed and he hated seeing his Mistress sad. "Mistress, are you certain you want…"

"Kreacher… I've always wanted to be a teacher."

"Yes, Mistress Black, Kreacher remembers." He said softly remembering how much she wanted to be a teacher. He remembered how often when she was out of school when they weren't partying being the noble house of Black that she was curled up by the fire studying reading books for the following school year. "Kreacher remembers you were studious Mistress."

Lunar bit her lip softly knowing that Kreacher was always the one that woke her if she fell asleep next to the fire so her mother wouldn't go on a fit of rage if she was found sound asleep in front of the fire. She never quite understood why Kreacher woke her up, and she never really asked why he did so. She didn't want to seem ungrateful for everything that Kreacher had done for her.

"Why would you want to return there?"

Lunar took a soft breath running her hand through her hair and looked at the house elf. "I've accepted the job." She explained to the house elf. She knew that it wasn't going to be easy for the house elf to understand why she wanted to go back to the school and teach, but she was going to do it. "Will you be alright?" She asked softly.

Kreacher looked up at his Mistress and nodded his head. "Yes, Mistress. You wish for this job, Mistress."

"Just keep the house clean, Kreacher… I'll be back before you know it." She said, offering the house elf a small smile. She knew that he was probably rather depressed of her leaving, but he would still have her mother's portrait that liked to scream every so often at her if she ever started to whisper about Sirius. Or even that even showed her face around her mother's painting. She sometimes wondered if her mother hated her for being Sirius's twin and for being sorted into Ravenclaw. Lunar picked at the food that Kreacher had given her, eating very little of it before pushing it away from her.

"Is there anything that I can do for you Mistress?"

"That's all Kreacher. Just clean." She said softly.

Kreacher nodded his head knowing that was all his Mistress needed.

Lunar slowly got up to her feet and slowly left the room. She ran her hand through her hair and walked towards her room that she had ever since she was a child. She took a soft breath as she walked. She could hear her mother screaming already in the hallway.

"TRAITOROUS BRAT!"

Lunar let out a groan as she flicked her hand causing the drapes to fall over the painting of her mother. "Bloody hell mother." She said, shaking her head. "I really must find a way to get that painting gone." She muttered as she slowed stopping in front of the room that said R.A.B. on it. She swallowed the lump in her throat.

"Regulus… please don't do this…" Lunar pleaded with her younger brother who was leaving his room dressed in all black.

Regulus looked at his older sister with a look of disgust on his face. "Watch it dear sister. You wouldn't want mother to think that you are going to be turning out like our blood traitor of a brother."

Lunar gasped her grey eyes going wide. She couldn't believe that Regulus was saying such a thing. She didn't see Sirius as a traitor. He would never be a traitor, not in her eyes, never in a million years. He was after all her twin; they shared time together more times than Regulus would ever know. "You can't possibly mean that you would want me blasted off the wall too, Regulus." She said her voice cracking a little.

Regulus turned and looked at her, his brows furrowed. "You haven't taken the mark."

"And I don't want to…"

"And you should."

"Regulus… the Dark Lord, has Bellatrix… surely he doesn't need another." Lunar said, shaking her head. "You're the one wanting to take that mantel up… and there is nothing that I can do to stop it."

Regulus put his hand clapping it tightly over her shoulder. "You could accept the mark, become one of us."

Lunar shook her head out of the memory of Regulus trying to talk her into getting the mark. That was one of the last memories that she had of him before she had begun to throw herself into work and trying to hide her deeds from her family of being part of the Order of the Phoenix. She knew that was the one thing that would have caused her to be blasted off the wall if her mother had ever found out. She slowly began to walk away from the door that led into her little brother's room and came to a stop at the door that was her other brother's room. She took a shaky breath and slowly opened the door to it. She let out a soft laugh seeing the Gryffindor banner that he had hanging up along with posters of Muggle models dressed in swimsuits.

She remembered that they could never get them down due to a sticking charm that he had used. Honestly she thought that they belonged there and they were to remain there forever more, at least in her eyes. She slowly went over to the desk and found the items that she left upon them slowly picking one up. It was a letter that Sirius had written to her before he was sentenced to his life term in Azkaban. She ran her fingers lightly over his messy penmanship. Her grey eyes slowly went to the messy lettering to try and reread what he had written to her.

Lune,

You know I didn't do this, Lune. You know that I would never dream of betraying our friends… our god-son's parents to him. I would never. You know me. You know how I am… you know I would never work for him. Will you tell them that when I go on trial. Please, they need to hear it from you. You're my only hope, Lune. Please… I'm begging you tell them that I would rather die than betray my friends. You would do the same. You'd never work for him. I love you and I hope to see you there.

Love your big brother,

Sirius.

Lunar slowly folded the parchment up and took a shaky breath closing her eyes. She remembered the day that he was sentenced well, because she herself was never allowed to go to his trial. They never gave him a trial, they sent him right to Azkaban and threw away the key, never once asking for what had happened. They never thought of questioning her of where his loyalties lied. Hell, their friends that they had within the order and in their own little group, Remus included, thought he was a murderer.

Her heart broke when she remembered what Remus had said to her a few days after Sirius had been sent away.

Lunar stood there dressed in a black dress watching the caskets of her two friends being lowered into the ground, tears slid down her cheeks, her heart rammed sadly in her chest as her mind went to Harry and where he was now. Her mind kept racing to her brother who was innocent in her eyes. Her head turned, seeing Remus standing there. She shakily walked over to Remus.

Remus's hands gripped tightly at his sides as he smelled her come over to him. "What are you doing here?"

Lunar swallowed the lump in her throat knowing that Remus was upset with this whole thing happening, but it wasn't her fault that James and Lily were killed and it wasn't Sirius's fault either. "Am I not allowed to be here, Remus?"

"Sirius got them killed. He killed Peter."

"Sirius didn't do this Remus." Lunar finally stated the truth of what she had felt. She truly felt that her brother wasn't behind this. "He wasn't their secret keeper, Remus."

"Do not lie to me, Lunar." Remus said, snarling his lip curling in anger. "They're dead because of him. Because he fooled you and lied to us all."

"He never lied, Remus. He would never. Remus, I'm his twin for bloody sake." Lunar said as tears slid down her cheeks.

Lunar shook her head trying to get the thought of Remus out of her mind. She couldn't think of her former friend. It hurt her heart to know that there was only her left out of their group that believed that her brother hadn't gotten James and Lily killed. She slowly left her brother's room and closed the door. She took a soft breath, closing her eyes, resting her hand softly on the door. "I miss you, Siri." She said softly before turning on her heels and headed towards her room.

She slowly opened the door and went inside of it. She closed the door and leaned against it as a few tears slid down her cheeks. She could only hope that Sirius was surviving through whatever he was living through in Azkaban. She could only hope that he knew that she missed him dearly and thought of him every day. She could only hope that he was keeping sane inside of there and knowing that she would be there when they found out he was innocent.
