Abuto was proud of his bloodline and wanted to keep the Yato clan going. But if taking care of this idiot taught him anything, it's that he does not want to be a father. At least, not unless he can be certain they won't be another Kamui.

Deep down, he loved the kid. He really did! Sometimes he just had to remind himself of that; it was really easy to hate someone who constantly makes your life harder. Kamui made it his life's mission to drive him as crazy as possible, "borrowing" his switch, "accidentally" erasing his save files, punting their crewmates through the ceiling, and spending way too much time thinking.

The first three were all typical Kamui, but the last one worried him a bit. That idiot being deep in thought instantly set off alarms.

Sighing, he grabbed the idiot who kept getting in Kamui's way by his feet and pulled him out. "I don't get paid enough for this..." Since the crew member (he was new and he didn't recall the guy's name) was still unconscious, he pulled him along by his ankles and threw him out the airlock.

What? He'll live; Yato are tough like that. Being in space for a little bit won't hurt him! He probably wouldn't even notice!

Anyway, there's only so many times he could stand pulling the same guy out of the ceiling because he annoyed their captain. About six or seven times seemed to be his limit.

You can't say he wasn't patient with him, that's for sure.

Obstacle removed, he continued on his merry way, heading to his room to finish the last bit of his paperwork and maybe, just maybe, he'd get the chance to actually use his Switch. He had curry to make and monsters to feed!

Speaking of monsters...

His mind drifted off in the middle of signing off on a budget request for new weapons.

That redhead's family was filled with monsters, wasn't it?

His father was Umibozu, the man famous for being the universe's strongest, a famous monster hunter. He met him once or twice; their former captain wanted to defeat him, to become the king of the Yato. (Last he checked, the title was his but the victory wasn't.) The man sent chills down his spine...Like a beast, he craved battle, but at the same time, he yearned for somewhere to call home, someone to call family.

Maybe it was dealing with those contradictory feelings that was driving him bald.

He wasn't a good father. Even with the snippets Abuto saw of Kamui's childhood, he understood that. Maybe he did love his children. Maybe he just couldn't cope with seeing his wife slowly dying. The one thing that was certain was that those two kids grew up living a very lonely, painful life, practically abandoned by their father.

Kamui never spoke much about his mother, and Abuto never asked. It was obvious that he loved her dearly. He fell apart only once in front of Abuto: when he learned that she had died. He retreated into his own head, locked himself away for a few days. Then he strolled out of his room, not even a single sign of grief on his face. That's when the smiles started. The blond could only imagine what kind of woman she was, how much the two children suffered from her passing.

Kamui himself was cunning and cocky, a good leader despite his childish behavior. He instinctively knew the best approach to each battle, was good at reading his opponent's patterns and moves, and had excellent control of his Yato blood. He never lost full control, rarely even came close. From a young age, everyone could see he would be a leader. He was strong, talented, and ambitious...Even if the title wasn't given to him voluntarily, he would seize the title of "captain", "admiral", and eventually "universe's strongest" by force.

Hell, before he saw what that girl was like, even Abuto believed it. After all, he was the kid trained by an entire division of Yato pirates. He was the kid the King of the Yato Housen saw promise in, the son of the universe's strongest.

The daughter of Umibozu, on the other hand, was on another level all together. She was a warm hearted child when he first saw her, protecting her beaten down brother despite being less than half his size. She was a young girl who loved to stare at the sky when it rained. Who knew she would grow up to be someone who made his blood run cold?

Who knew she would become a beast like that?

He sat back in his chair, paperwork forgotten. He could always dump it on someone else later. That's how it got to him from Kamui to start with.

He would later regret that. If he hadn't pushed it onto the nearest available idiot, maybe he would have been able to stop the disaster that was waiting for them on that oh so blue planet.

He may have prevented them from ever going to Earth.
