Author's Notes: This is my take on love. What is yours?
Love to a fellow man
Is hard to understand
For the word of the Lord is in my heart
But when I try with my knowledge to impart
Those who do not see what I see
Or hear what I hear
Will continue to do so
Because love is harder to define
In simple dictionary terms
Love usually means a deep, tender
and ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude
Toward a person, such as that arising from
kinship, recognition of attractive qualities,
or a sense of underlying unity
Yet, how can we love one another
When the vision of love has been skewered
Getting lost in the throes of lust and greed
Of passion and error
Of desire and pain
Love from God is this
To remain kind, to respect and to hope
To rejoice and defend
Those who are hurting in addition to care
Yet as Christians
Where are we now?
What is love to us?
How do we show that love to others?
Not just sisters and brothers
But to those that put us down?
When we try to tolerate
We only get berated
When we try to justify
We are nailed down as liars
It is not our place to tolerate
Or to justify our beliefs
For it must be us, inside our hearts
To show what we feel
Towards those who are different from us in all we can
By giving all a helping hand
It is not through charity alone
That we are saved
In actuality all humanity is healed
Since Christ has died for all our sins
Because he cared and loved us all deeply
His, is the greatest expression of this entire world
For it is through His sacrifice that we now can live
However, why is this love so perverted
By those who just will not accept this simple truth
That someone loved the people of the world so much
He would pay the final price to get our foot through heaven's door
All we need to do is ask with breaking hearts
That we truly do believe
That the Lord is there always to take our hands
As he knocks on our soul's door
His love for us is deeper and more tender
More speechless than can be explained
His love is overflowing, eternal and divine
His love for us is filled with rejoicing
His love for us is enflamed
It is stronger than friendship,
Beyond recognition of attrativeness
And more than just unifying as one
God's love for mankind
Is that of a long-suffering parent
Waiting for their child to come home
Many have returned to their father's arms
To find the strength and stability
That He has given to all
With the promise of zero harm
With that in mind,
That is what love to fellow man must be
To comfort, to cherish and to respect
To trust, to offer unity and safety instead
Of falsity and dishonesty
Of injustice and desecrating lies
This is what love to others must be expressed
That their opinions also matter for us too
Yet it is the final word from God
That reveals to us the actual truth
Not the reasoning of man
But the quickening of the Lord in Heaven
