They broke down the drums, carrying away the amps and microphone stands, other students were still congratulating them, many expected a good performance from Schroeder, but were surprised the rest were that good, impressed at Charlie and Lucy's singing, really impressed with Charlie. Making sure to put their equipment away from the other bands, just incase, before sitting in the audience with their friends to watch the rest the show.
"Oh my god, you guys were great, so great, Charlie; you were awesome," Violet whispered.
"I'm glad to hear it, maybe now people won't think I'm such a loser," Charlie replied
"I wish you could've done another song, I know everybody else would wanna hear it," Marcie added.
"Did you hear my mom screaming 'encore'," Patty laughed.
"Who didn't," Lucy laughed with her.
"I knew you guys would kill it up there, sis, your singing was impeccable as always," Linus added.
"Thank you, brother dear."
"It almost sounded like you two were singing to each other, like there was a deeper meaning around your relationship," he theorized.
"You could say that. I was torn before Lucy came around, I guess," he held her hand.
"I was torn until I accepted Charlie wanted me."
"I think we were all a little torn," Frieda surmised.
"And I just want you to know, we could see those hickey's all the way up there," Patty teased.
"Ol' Chuck musta claimed her after school, shoulda seem him about to fight the other band," Peppermint Patty laughed.
"That means my parents could see it, too… oh no," she tried to cover her neck with her hands.
"We won't be calling him good 'ol Charlie Brown, anymore," Linus danced his eyebrows.
"Goof grief," Charlie rolled his eyes.
The talent show came to a close with the last contestant, the teacher started to announce the winners. Charlie long let the nervousness of losing leave his head, they did a good job and didn't care. The whole gang lost it, when the band was declared second place winners m, called to the stage, hearing all the cheers.
"I appreciate this, I didn't think we'd win, but I didn't really care after a while, I just wanted to have fun " Charlie said.
"You pushed the idea, so we ain't stopping now, are we, Chuck," Franklin asked.
"Duh, we just got started," Peppermint Patty yelled.
"We need a better name, but this is just the beginning, right, Lu-Lu?"
"We're gonna keep rocking, Sparkyville," Lucy yelled.
People started funneling out as the talent show closed, their parents made their way backstage while they were getting their stuff in order. They gained some unexpected recognition.
"Looks like you dudes are the ones to tear the roof off, we just rattled the beams," the singer said.
"We really didn't stand a chance," the guitarist added.
"You guys were pretty good, I thought you were going to beat us," Charlie said.
"I guess we were all wrong," the singer laughed, "you're clearly not a loser, man, especially with that cutie."
"I wanna be a loser, if that's what it's like, you guy's keep it up, and you might have some labels fighting for ya," the bassist admitted.
"Thanks guys, I appreciate it."
"Before you ask me out; I already have a girlfriend," Peppermint Patty blurted out.
"Sucks for me… you pretty cute," he shrugged.
"Maybe we can jam one day. I shoulda known you guys would be good if Schroeder's in the band. Catch you guys later," the singer turned away.
"Look at you getting popular," Lucy hugged him.
"Crazier things have happened," he kissed her.
"Ah-hem," a voice said, startling them.
"D-dad," Lucy jumped back.
He just glared at her, pointing to his neck.
"I uh, fell," she suggested.
"Fell on a vacuum cleaner, or a set of lips," he raised an eyebrow.
"Let the kids be kids, Monty," Charles slapped his back, "you used to be quite the vacuum back in high school, that Julia was always tripping over."
"Charles, you could see it all the way on stage."
"Oh calm down, dear, it's not like she's going to get pregnant from them," Julia dismissed.
"Monty, you used to be on her neck like a vampire, who you fooling," Elizabeth scoffed, "that was a helluva performance and look at you Lucy, reminds me of Julie in her goth phase."
"I had no such thing."
"Please girl, I still have a yearbook at home."
"Dressed like Siouxie Sue with hickeys all over your neck," Maryanne chuckled.
"Uh-huh, and Nichelle was right there, looking like Tina Turner," Darryl laughed, "your granddad would be proud of you son. That was a great show yall put on."
"Thanks dad."
"Baby, you all threw down," Nichelle exclaimed.
"We tried our best," Charlie said.
"That's all you can do, Charlie," Charles hugged him.
"My grandson is a rockstar."
"Granddad," Charlie hugged him.
"That's the kid you're worried about, Monty? I made him cry once," Darryl chuckled.
"I'm just concerned, that's all."
"Concerned, if Lucy's anything like Julia," Nichelle started.
Elizabeth cackled.
"Relax Monty, let them alone, it's not like we could stop it, besides… you know it's hard to resist the Van Pelt charm," she purred.
"Catching Linus in the stairwells, sure does bring back memories," Principle Wilkerson chuckled.
"So it does run in the family," Maryanne blurted.
"We weren't the only ones… Elizabeth… and you too, Jim," Julia laughed.
"Yep, me and Gwen couldn't keep our hands off each other."
"Dad," Pepoermint Patty hugged him
"How you like our kids band, Dan," he asked.
"It was almost first place for them, Jimbo."
"I always wondered how our parents were in high school," Franklin whispered.
Charlie and Lucy snickered.
"Not too much different than you all, as much as they deny it," Dan answered, "that was quite a show, there, keep up the good work."
"Schroeder, I'm so proud of you," his mom ran up hugging him.
"Awe mom!"
"Kim, girl, how you been," Nichelle asked.
"Same 'ol, same 'ol, Nee-Nee."
"Kim. Ber. Lee. You talk to that no-good man of yours," Elizabeth asked.
"You haven't changed a bit, Beth. I think he's still scared of you."
"We need to get this stuff to our cars, so we can meet up with our friends," Peppermint Patty pulled out a flatbed cart.
"This isn't going to be like last time, is it Lucy," Monty asked, "you'll be coming home tonight?"
"We're just going to a pizza place to celebrate, sir. Relax, it's all good," Peppermint Patty answered.
"Who's that remind you of," Dan chuckled.
"Spitting image of Gwen," Kim sighed.
"I still remember the time she and Julia beat up those cheerleaders, and Gwen chased them down the hall with a mop," Monty smiled.
"That does sound familiar," Charlie laughed.
"Real familiar," Franklin laughed.
"How so, Charlie," Dan asked.
"What's familiar about it," Jimbo asked.
"Nothing," Franklin blurted.
"Yeah, nothing," Charlie agreed.
Both of them ran off with their guitars.
Safely outside in the parking lot, Charlie and Franklin laughed talking about what they thought the fight was about, catching up to the others.
"Everybody loved the performance, my parents were highly impressed," Marcie said.
"It's great, right," Charlie asked.
"I knew you guys were gonna kill," Violet hugged Franklin.
"I bet our parents are talking about when they were in school together… and Lucy's hickeys," Patty laughed.
"My dad was so mad until they all ganged up on him."
"She said she fell," Schroeder laughed.
"Like who would believe that," Peppermint Patty laughed.
"I've seen my moms yearbooks, Lucy's mom was practically covered in hickeys," Patty laughed.
"I'm ready to eat, I ain't running this stuff all the way home right now," Franklin said.
"The pizza is calling us," Schroeder put his stuff in his trunk.
"At least wait for me, I don't have no fancy covered bed to leave these drums in," Peppermint Patty said.
"Well hurry up and go, Trish," Violet waved at her.
"Get your twin in check, Lucy," Peppermint Patty joked.
