Here's Chapter number 3!
Please read and review, I hope you guys are enjoying the journey so far!
I'm also fleshing out some more of the movie that we don't see, again this is from Roxanne's view.
Enjoy!
Chapter 3 I'd love to:
Murmurings abounded throughout the auditorium as Max – with help from his friends – was lowered down from the hook, and was promptly whisked away off stage by a couple of the teachers, whilst principal Mazur yelled at them for daring to sully the end of the school year.
The students were quite mutinous about this; a select few did smile as Max got taken off stage, but most of the public sentiment was on his side – he nailed the Powerline movies from one of his biggest hits and he did it on stage. Not only that, it was the end of the school year and so what if Mazur's speech got interrupted? Nonetheless Principal Mazur drew the line in the sand on this sort of behavior and a few moments later, ordered everyone out and back to class. The students chatted excitedly amongst themselves, and as Roxanne and Stacey walked out and into the sunlight, they too were having their own little discussion.
Or at least Stacey was.
"...what people haven't caught onto yet, is what they'll be saying about you." Stacey said with an air of smugness.
Roxanne felt a little hot under her collar as Stacey grinned at her. "Wh-what do you mean?" she replied.
Stacey's grin turned into a massive one.
"Don't be coy with me! You're telling me you missed the part where he leans over the stage and ignores everyone else but you?"
"Yeah but- "
"And I saw you twirling your hair, and that smile you had that you tried to hide by biting your lip."
"But I – "
"And FINALLY," Stacey was near shouting now "when he swung through the hall that the light was shining on you and you alone?"
"I..uh…but" Roxanne could only stutter in reply.
Stacey bumped into Roxanne's hip, causing her to stagger a little.
"It's pointless Roxanne, don't fight with me on this"
Roxanne had nothing to say, it was all so overwhelming, the whole series of events only happened not even twenty minutes ago. Stacey put a hand on her shoulder and smiled.
"Relax, I'm only teasing. It's quite clear he likes you based off that. Well, maybe, I don't know how boys work, but we can talk about this after today."
Roxanne just smiled, there would be a lot to talk about later but first there was an afternoon of school to get through.
The rest of the afternoon went by without much fanfare. Max's Powerline stunt was by far the biggest talk of the day – although some of the football team decorated their coach's office with toilet paper – but nothing much else happened.
Stacey had a need to drop off some papers to the front office as part of her final duties as student president for the year, so after class Roxanne accompanied here, there was a bit of chatter between the two about summer plans they would have together, Stacey was mostly the initiator of the conversation but Roxanne found it was just best to go along with it.
They had just arrived at the front office where the desk was and while Stacey carried on about the air conditioner and the theming of what her party was going to be like, Roxanne was already in the know that it would be Powerline-themed so she wasn't as engaged in the conversation. She rolled her eyes away from Stacey but her eyes landed on another sight that made her smile.
Max was sitting outside the principal's office; his expression was unfathomable as he had his face completely in his hands as he bowed forward in dejection, He cut a pretty miserable figure all in all.
Roxanne heard Stacey made a strange suggestive sound - she must have been staring at him too long so that even Stacey noticed this – and looked back to seeing her peer at Roxanne from behind her glasses, bobbing her eyebrows and clicking her tongue.
Roxanne turned back towards Max, deciding whether or not if she should go over and talk to him when Stacey made that decision for her, before she knew it, Stacey gave her a big push in his direction.
"Stacey, no, I don't wanna..." she protested and looked at her and threw her arm up in confusion at her as to what to do next.
Stacey shrugged her shoulders back at her as well, "talk to him" she whispered.
Roxanne cleared her throat and leaned forward to see if he reacted, he didn't, his face was still in his hands and her seemed oblivious anyone was around him. Roxanne cleared her throat more loudly, still no reaction.
She looked back at Stacey at a loss of what to do.
Stacey appeared to be exasperated with her, "Tap him" she whispered back mimicking the action, as if this was the most obvious thing to do.
Roxanne paused and gave him a quick couple of taps on his shoulder, but just as she did so, he suddenly shot up from his position, startled from her touch. Roxanne also jumped back a little in some surprise, causing her to drop the book and papers she was carrying.
He looked over, saw her, and gave a double take. She overcame her own surprise and gave him a small smile to which he returned bashfully as he stood up from his chair. If he was nervous, he was doing a much better job at concealing it this time, although she felt herself having the fluttering sensation she had before. As neither of them seemed to want to start a conversation through nerves, she got down on the floor to pick up her book and start collecting the papers she dropped.
Max had also got on the floor a second or two after her to help her.
"Oh gosh, I'm sorry" he began apologetically, Roxanne felt the faintest shiver run up her spine as she heard him properly for the first time clearly, what was wrong with her?
"It's okay, really." She replied, a little bit flustered.
Dealing with her nerves, she didn't notice that in the midst of them collecting her papers they had both reached for the same paper, and as they both reached for it, they touched hands.
They both looked up at each other and looked into each other's eyes for a split second, but he pulled his hand back quickly and looked away shyly as Roxanne picked the paper off the floor and put it to her face to hide her smile.
"Um, I liked your dance" Roxanne started off.
"Yeah" he replied automatically before turning around in surprise. "Yeah?"
They both stood up as he handed back her book and put his hands in his pockets. "Yeah, its from Powerline's new video"
I know! He's-he's a genius" she stuttered back, seriously what was wrong with her?
"Yeah, he's-he's doing a concert in L.A"
"Yeah, Stacey is showing it at her party" Roxanne replied, thankfully recovering from her own stumbling earlier.
"Yeah" he replied, running his hand through his hair, looking nervous again.
"Yeah." Roxanne said back, how many times were they going to say yeah?
There was a bit of a silence between the two of them, and Roxanne couldn't help but feel there was some sort of…tension… between them.
"Um, uh, Roxanne" he said, looking much more nervous now and slightly pale. "I was, uh, sorta kinda, thinking that, I'd, uh. . .ask you to go with me – that is, to the party" As if he couldn't stop, he tried to explain, "Of course if you don't want to, I'd completely understand."
As he was saying these words out loud, Roxanne could feel the world slow down to a stop, it felt like the wind was whistling in her ears and she felt the fluttering in her stomach go at full speed. It was as if she had missed a step and her stomach was swooping.
Roxanne looked away to conceal her blushing while tracing her fingers across the books in her arms.
"Well, I was sorta thinking that…"
She looked at him and smiled.
". . .I'd love to."
"Yeah?" he asked, with a grin forming on his own face.
"Yeah" she replied.
"Good"
"Great"
"Terrific"
"Wonderful"
"Alright"
"Okay"
Having lurked in the background watching this interaction, Stacey suddenly came forward deciding that the conversation had achieved what it needed to achieve. "Come on Roxanne" Stacey interjected, elbowing her, "we don't want to belabor the moment now do we?"
"Well, I'd better be going" Roxanne said, as Stacey began pulling her away.
"Okay" he replied, and suddenly feeling confident, "I'll uh, call you later"
"Okay" Roxanne said giddily as she backed out of the room "Bye", as she backed out of the room, she hit the edge of the corner and gave a nervous giggle. "Bye" she said again and waved at him quickly.
"See, that wasn't so bad" Stacey told her as they walked down the hallway. "I told you men are easy to deal with…" But Roxanne wasn't listening, and as Stacey continued to jabber about how great it was that she pushed her to do it, in a literal sense, Roxanne was daydreaming about how great Stacey's party was going to be now.
She had a date with Max Goof and she thought she could never be so excited.
Aaaannnnddddd that is chapter 3!
From now, the chapters will come out a bit slower but also will be much longer than the ones I've currently done, this is because:
I'm super busy now
These chapters were relatively easy since it's shown in the movie
I'm trying to tie this together in a believable way, we are exploring Roxanne's side for this, there may be chapters from alternate perspectives in the future
I still hope to get the next one out in a week or so, it's already mostly there, I just need to do some refining on my part.
Til next time, take care!
