The walk was long, and silent. Although the sun was shining bright over Tree Hill, it was a dark day, for some the darkest they'd ever experienced. Amongst the sea of black clothing stood out a certain few individuals, whose devastation was to hard to mask. Today Keith Scott would be laid to rest.

It had been four days since the shooting at Tree Hill High, four days since everyone's life had changed. The reporters, the psychologists, and the analysis showed up by the dozens trying to make sense of what had happened but in reality they were all just another statistics. The story stays the same.

The casket was lowered into the ground, and then it was over. Every dream was now shattered. They would never have the chance to become a family, a real family. Lucas held his mothers hand tightly as they walked back to their cars, both wearing sunglasses to hide their tear filled eyes. Brooke held his other hand just as tight, she wouldn't dare let go.

"Mom are you sure you're going to be okay?" Lucas said quietly as he pulled his mother into a hug.

"I don't think I'll ever be okay with this, but I have to be right? Deb is going to be staying at the house with us for a while, she has no where else to go, and I could use the company" She said opening her car door.

"Give her my room; I'll crash on the couch. And Mom…?" He began.

"Yes?" She said holding back the tears.

"Together we will get through this, we always do" He said hugging her again.

"I love you my boy" She said sobbing.

"Karen if there is anything I can do for you, just ask" Brooke said hugging Karen, who had become like a second mother to her over the last year.

"Just take care of my boy, he's all I have left" Karen chocked out.

"Be strong" Brooke whispered to her.

Karen got into her car, and was then joined by Deb in the passenger's seat.

"Don't worry Lucas, I'll take care of her" Deb smiled sweetly.

"I love you mom" Lucas said, as they drove away.

Brooke squeezed his hand tightly, as they began walking out of the cemetery. The silence was almost painful, what could she possibly say to make him feel better. They walked for a long time, until they reached the bleachers down by the river court, and took a seat.

"What are you thinking?" She asked quietly finally breaking the silence as she gently rubbed his back.

"When I was little Keith use to bring me here to play basketball. Everyday after school we would come down here, and he would play with me and all my friends. It's just weird to think that Jimmy was one of them, and now he's the reason Keith is dead. I just feel….I just…I…." Lucas couldn't finish his sentence; he put his head down between his legs and sobbed.

Brooke moved closer to him, and placed her hand on his face. "Babe its okay to let it out…" She said soothingly.

"I don't want to cry in front of you…" He said between tears.

"Lucas if you need to cry, then you cry. And if you want to yell and scream, then you yell and scream. I will love you just as you are" She said softly kissing him, tasting the tears.

"Thank you" He said quietly as he tried to compose himself again.

"So what do you want to do with the rest of the day?" She asked sweetly.

"Honestly I just want to be close to you; right now you're the only person that's keeping me from falling apart Brooke" He said sadly.

"I say we go back to my apartment, order some Chinese, and rent a movie on paper view I think there is one if those war, fighting, lord of the whatever's on there that you like?" She smiled trying to boost his spirit.

He looked up into her eyes, and she looked so honest, and genuine. Like she was willing to do whatever it took to make him smile. So he did. "Your like a breathe of fresh air. It's like I'm drowning, and then there's you" He said as they stood up, interlocked their hands and walked towards her apartment.
