Chapter: Welcome to the Owl House

Katrina didn't know what was more crazy. Her cousin' crazy fly tricks, or Luz request to make more of them while she fly with him.

Jett playfully rode his staff as if he was in a roller coaster. The owlcat on top his staff cooing happily as flew in loop-de-loops in order to entertain its owner and extra passenger. Although it was making human teen dizzy. Luz screamed in glee.

"Jett, stop." Katrina pleaded as she stopped her eyes from spinning, "You two are making me lose my breakfast. Since yesterday."

"Joykiller." Jett complain, flying next to her.

"I just don't want to any of us threw up." His cousin repiled, "Besides, we're here." She added as they flew down into the large cliff to make their landing. Just before they landed, Luz noticed there was a single building on the cliff.

"I know you have no choice whatsoever. But thanks again for choosing Air Howlitty." Jett said getting off the staff and Luz followed his example.

She looked to see strange yet mystical looking large house made from white brick with a sloping blue roof, a stained glass window above the wooden door gives the impression of a large demon eye and most of the house consists of a crumbling stone tower with moss growing on it.

They walked up to the door and saw what looked like an owl face.

"Before we go in, word of advice, don't buy anything from my mom." Jett said to Luz.

"And don't be alarmed if Hooty gets too close to you." Katrina added, "He is sort of quirky."

"Who is-"

"HELLO!" A wooden barn owl face on the door extend itself out the door and stared at Luz. The shock of it almost knocked her to the ground.

"This is Hooty." Jett briefly explained, "Our house demon and the best Security System on the Boiling Isles."

"It's me! Wanna by my friend?" Hooty said, pressing itself into Luz's face.

"Hooty, we had a talk about personal space." Jett gently chided Hooty, who seemed to have made a home around Luz's shoulders.

"I love other people's space." Hooty chirped mischievously.

Jett give Hooty a forehead flick. He yelped in pain, retracting into the door. "Oh, right. Five foot radius."

"Good Security System." The orange haired boy tapped Hooty on the cheek. "Now let us in."

"Password please! Hoot! Hoot!"

"Open sesame." Luz reflexively said her first thought.

"Beep! Wrong!"

"Fenrir Like Smoldering Fly." Jett said.

"Beep! Wrong!"

"What?"

"I've come up with a new password." Hooty said with a smile. "The old one was so Nordic."

Jett looked at him as if Hooty just said the dumbest thing ever. "Nordic? What- No Wait! I don't want to know. Just open the door."

"Password first!" Hooty countered.

"Nobody know the password." Katrina noticed, ears flicking.

"I know password." Hooty said in a high pitch.

"And what's this password?" Luz asked.

Surprisingly, the house demon told her his password.

"It's 'UnDeadMau'."

"UnDeadMau?" She obliviously repeat the words.

"Smart move, Luz. Ladies first, of course." Jett said as Hooty swung the door opened and they walked through.

"Wow..." Luz commented in awe gazing at the inside.

This house was quite a wonder, even for those who were not from another world. The warm color scheme and blazing fire place, give homey feel to girl. The atmosphere of candle light is cosy and with a subtle scent of wood just relaxing.

Some items flying all over the room while a broom in the Sorcerer's Apprentice style sweeping up crumbs. On the wall behind the couch was a various amount of different items which was hanging like trophies. And a large owl like craving on the ceiling glowed slighty.

'This place seems to live.' Luz thought. And technically, she's not wrong. Because the part of the wall was acutually breathing air.

"Welcome in the Owl House." Jett said as the door shut behind him, "Place free from social pressure, stress of the outside world..."

"And proper weapon safety rules." Katrina effortlessly picked a axe twice her head size up off the floor and leaned it against the wall.

"Mom! King! I'm home!"

Instead of hearing Mom or King as Jett expected, a silent answered him back.

"Hooty, where is everybody?"

Hooty's response was to cough up a paper ball which landed on the floor in front of Luz and Katrina. The two girls cringed and both had the same response: "Ew!"

Curious, Jett picked up the wet paper ball and straightened it out. The note simply said "The dinner's in the freezer. I'm pretty busy 'til the end of the day. Don't wait and don't ask questions when I back."

It was signed Mom, but there was also a slightly sticky red pawprint.

"Well, Luz, it looks like you stick with us for a little longer."

"So what can I do to help with the gytrashe?"

"You want to help us...sealed the gytrashe?" Jett and Katrina looked confused.

"You said Gytrashe will try to track down you guys or me... sooner or later. So helpping you is in my best interest."

"You can wait in here with Hooty." Katrina offered.

"Yes, stay with me. My new friend!" A falsetto voice calls from the window, and Hooty ducked inside to get a look at the trio. "I'll tell a story about how a sparrow flew into his mouth earlier today."

Hooty give a happy face before he coughed up a the sparrow that flew into his mouth. Katrina open the other window to let bird go out on the outside. Luz shared a look with Jett, and it was as if he was advising her not to ask about it.

"I'm in the Magic Realm. If I have to spend the rest of this day here, I take my chance to adventure." Luz explained her point of view. Plus, she had a hunch that getting alone with Hooty may be challenge on the same level as hunt the gytrashe.

"It will be dangerous." Katrina reasonably said, "Gytrashe can be as fierce as any dragon."

"I have some experience with dangerous animals." One of the backup snakes picked that exact moment to crawled out Luz's book bag. They looked at snake which slithered out of the room immediately. "Relax, it's not a poisonous snake."

"You are weird human." It wasn't insult. Just a simple statement of fact.

"I know." Luz didn't seem angry or defensive about it. More like she was expecting it and was hurt at the implicit suggestion. "I hear that a lot."

"That's good thing." Jett chimed in gleefully, "Being weird make people like us special. Be proudly werido, Luz. "

"Jett is right, being weird isn't a bad thing." Katrina added when understand that her words was rather painful for the human girl.

Jett flicked up an ear, curious now. "I'm sorry, did you just say 'Jett is right'?"

"The first time and probably the last time in my life." She said, a hint of a tease back in her tone. "Now, where aunt Eda keep a sealing gems?"

"And this is when it gets interesting. I have no idea. So, we can have a contest to see who finds the bag first." Jett repiled as he moved over to the hall closet, beginning to pull out many various objects. Hooty got his head stuck in the closet to help him.

Katrina looked at Luz. The girl simply shrugged and walk to check in the sofa cushions.

The red head sighed, "I've got the basement."

After 30 minutes, Katrina returned to livingroom, where she saw her cousin with his hand in the hole in the wall. Someone else would be surprised seeing this but not her.

"Nothing." She told him, picking small spiders out of her hair.

"Me too." Jett said before yelled, "Luz, what about you?"

After ten full seconds of silence, they heard a sheepish but loud"I found something!" from upstairs.

When Luz returned to livingroom she was covered with dust and cobwebs, and held a small bag.

"I found it in the loft." Opening it up she pulled another bag out and removed a few gems from it. Laying them out on the table she arranged them loosely in a line. "You've got an impressive collection of artificial animal bones, by the way."

"This isn't a collection. Hooty spits out there what's left of his a midnight snack." Jett explained, looking at two black gems. He put them back to the bag before said, "Okay, Red, sealing gems are your thing."

"Let's see..." Katrina said to herself as she checked over the gems.

"Lunar Sapphire"

The first gem was a untypical. Purple like lavender flower. The two conjoined gemstones that's form an inverted lowercase "Y". The shorter and longer segments of the gemstone both have their own two facets, parallel to their respective segments.

"Lightning Opal."

This one was look like a blue dumortierite in quartz. And the colors seem to pulsate.

"And Star Sunstone."

The third gem was rather normal. The tetradecahedron shape gemstone, light yellowish with orange and red blotches.

"This is the best combination." She said, putting the other gems to bag.

"And is that all we need?" Luz asked a little confused right now, "Three small gems."

Katrina was momentarily surprised by the question before she answered. "Of course not. The gytrashes transformed itself into a different form. So, we have to weakened it to the point where sealing spell could work. For this we need the Dawn Crystal. They does not occur naturally on the Boiling Isles and is produced artificially."

"Then we have a hard potion trial ahead of us." Jett came up to a pile of books, and pulled light purple colour book with a purple binding. "Get ready for work, ladies."

At that, Luz brightened, she ran to the closet and came back with a black witch hat on her head.

"I'm ready."

"Why did you put this on your head?" Jett asked, surprised and a little entertained.

"We'll do the witch stuff." Luz said, grinning ear-to-ear and practically bouncing in place. "So, I'm wearing the witch hat."

"This is just the dirtiest traffic cone in this house." He simply said.

Luz reached on top of her head and took off the "witch hat" she was wearing and wiped it off to reveal it was actually a traffic cone covered in dust and grime.

"Aw man."

As Jett brushed the last bits of bark of the sunflower from his hands and Luz added the crumbled remains of a dried dragon scales to bowl, the mixture in front of trio turned a pale, murky malachite, illuminating with odd flashes of silver as it caught the sun rays coming through the window. It was difficult to not be entirely entranced by the swirling, pulsing rhythm of the liquid in the cauldron in front of them, but after a few seconds Luz tore her eyes away, wiping away the pixe dust left clinging to her palms.

"We are ready for the next ingredient," the girl announced, turning her body towards Katrina. She nodded, a look of serious concentration on her face, and consulted the text in the grimoire.

"Mint extract. Troll's saliva. And..."

"And what?" Jett exclaimed, looking up from his hunched position at the table's lower shelf.

"The owl feather."

"One second." The teen said, rooting around in the couch cushions until felt the point of a quill press into his hand. He wrapped his fingers around a long soft shapes, and he pulled it out with a flourish. "Ta-da!"

Katrina and Luz studying the offered plumage. Two were medium length, greyish-silver and fuzzy at the edges, witch almost white tip. One was knife shaped, all onyx black and slightly shimmer.

"This feather have to be fresh from the owl." Luz said, leaning back over the book regardless to double-check.

Jett's ears fell at the statement. Katrina looked at her cousin's staff but he tossed it to the side. "Don't bother asking 'cause the answer's no."

"We don't have time looking for the owl, Jett." Katrina replied.

"Luckily, we have the owl." Her cousin said before turning to the door and shouted, "Hoooooty!"

The door swings open inside and Hooty came stretching into the room.

"How can I help?"

Instead of a verbal answer, Jett pulled a feather from the house demon's long neck. Hooty yelped very loud, but probably more out of shock than pain.

"Thank you for your cooperation, birdy fella." Jett put the feather in the bowl.

"I'm feeling used and abused!" Hooty pouted at him.

The teen took out a bag of sour jelly worms from his pocket. "Gummy worms?"

"I forgive you! Hoot! Hoot!"

Hooty ate a whole pack of gummi candies, literally. He swallowed it whole, While Luz added mint extract and troll's saliva to bowl.

"Three ingredients down." Katrina approached their makeshift cauldron. "It's time for the finale."

She drew a circle in the air. From the circle came a small vial. It glowed a bright and unearthly for something so small, shining like an holy beacon in the room.

"What is it?" Luz asked, eying the small vial with fascination.

"The sundrop." Katrina took the stop out of the bottle and held it over bowl.

"What will it do?" Luz asked, watching as the drop slid forth from the mouth of the bottle.

"Adds shine." the older girl said as the drop fell.

The liquid splashed down into the bowl, turning the potion equally gold.

For a second, everything stopped.

And then the potion exploded.

There was a flash of light colorless and yet so full of color it was as if there was a prism at the center splitting the light into rainbows as it burned so bright, vision was lost for a moment. Three teenagers had look away and shield their eyes. When the light had faded, they looked back to where small cauldron stood. It was gone. They looked down into the bowl to find that all of the liquid had evaporated into the air.

And a six crystal that looks like a shurikens sparkled in the cauldron.

"Done. A first class Dawn Crystal." Katrina put the grimoire back out of order. "And all that remains is to find our shadow canine, which might be a bit of a challenge now that we left it back in Everdark Forest. Gytrash problably found someplace where it can absorb more darkness."

"I know how to find the gytrash." Jett stated.

Luz gasped in excitement before smiling brightly. "Some sort of ancient, mysterious ritual?"

"Nope," the boy said as he drew a spell circle and summoned a small scroll that looked unfurled. He held the scroll as he was contacting to someone else. He even smiled and said, "Hi Quitela. I need favor."

Jett rolled his eyes, "No, I don't need to clean up the scene... No...Come on, dude, I'm serious...My mom isn't involved... Then you wouldn't haven't gamble this things...This feeling are very mutual... Now, just tell me where is the deepest darkest place to hidden in the Everdark Forest...Ok, thanks."

"And?" Luz and Katrina asked after he hung up the phone-like scroll.

"We're taking a trip up to the Cave of Spiral Uroboros."
