Chapter 4
"Damnit. FUCK!" Damon yelled desperately pounding on the middle stone only seconds after Elena disappeared through them.
"Ok, everyone take a breath I can fix this." Bonnie closed her eyes tight trying to think back to everything her Grams had said, trying desperately to remember anything that could help them.
"TAKE A BREATH? REALLY BONNIE?" Damon yelled getting in her face. "Why can't we go through behind her. Why Isn't it working?! She could be anywhere, with anyone right now. We need to get her back."
"She was right." Alaric whispered to himself as he sat down with his head in his hands.
"What did you say?" Damon stopped and stared at Alaric with wide eyes.
"She was RIGHT." Alaric said louder as he stood up finally letting what just happened sink in. "She tried to tell all of us that something wasn't right and we were all so desperate to fix her that we didn't listen to a word she said. I remembered teaching a lesson on these standing stones." He continued to ramble as everyone stood and listened in shock "The stories, they say there's certain people with a higher divine purpose, people that are one half of a whole that will be guided to the stones and can go through. It's fated for them through all their lifetimes. They say they don't have a linear life. They exist at many different times but all at the same time. I knew all this and let the off chance that your Grams could be right cloud my judgement." He was blaming himself.
"I'm so sorry Ric." Bonnie said softer feeling the judgement roll off everyone.
"Ok that's enough." Stefan finally spoke. "We can't blame each other or sit around wishing we did something different." He took a deep breath before continuing because he knew what their only options were. "As much as I hate to say this right now it's gotta be said. The only thing we can do since none of us can get through those stones is to head home and find everything we can about these stones. See if we can find any of instances of people able to get through. If-" He winced thinking that Elena was fated to be with someone else "she REALLY is fated to go through those stones it was going to happen either way and we have to trust that someone on the other side of those stones is going to protect her like we would."
"You've got to be kidding me Stefan." Damon stood still in disbelief.
"What else are we supposed to do Damon?!" Stefan waved his armed around. "Are we supposed to sit at the bottom of that stone waiting for someone to come back through when we have no clue when or where or even IF she's ever coming back through?"
"I hate to say it Damon but I think Stef is right. You know I would never leave this exact spot if I knew how to get her back. We love her just as much as you do."
He was defeated. "Fine." He huffed as he aggressively picked up his leather jacket that he angrily threw on the ground when he realized Elena was gone.
"We will do everything we can Damon." Bonnie said quietly as she put her hand on his arm in support.
"Yeah. I know you will or it's your life on the line Bon Bon." Damon spat out sarcastically.
Stefan nodded to them to go ahead of them down to the car. "Come on let's go Bon." Alaric whispered quietly to her as he guided her down the hill with one arm around her.
As soon as Alaric and Bonnie were down the hill far enough so they couldn't hear them talking Stefan stopped Damon. "We will get her back Damon. In the meantime don't hurt anyone. Please. Especially Bonnie. You know she's our best bet to getting Elena back. Even if we ourselves can't get back through the stones-" Damon cut him off before he could finish as he walked away. "Then I'll find a witch that will help us."
