Chapter 6

Elena recounted the story her friends had told her about how they were going through the stones to fix everything. What she casually left out was the fact that they were trying to go back to 1001 AD to make sure the original vampires were never made. She couldn't tell if she was being paranoid or if they could tell she was leaving something out.

"So let me get this straight…" Marcel started "Your friends were willing to go through all that trouble just to make sure you never became a vampire? Explain."

She didn't even know where to begin. "I guess I'll start from the beginning." She reluctantly said.

Elena spent an hour starting from the very beginning of her tragic life so far starting when her parents died. She stopped suddenly when she got to the part where she turned.

"Cat got your tongue?" Marcel chuckled at the edge of his seat. He didn't want to admit it but he felt for this young girl. She reminded him so much of himself. Tragic from the very beginning.

"No I just-"

"Go on Elena, we're just here to get the whole picture and listen." Vincent said lightly glaring over at the remark Marcel made.

"It's just.. I guess I left some things out in the beginning… we weren't really going back to just save me from turning. We were going back to save everyone from turning." Elena bit her lip and looked at Marcel who she could see was tensing his jaw up.

"Go ahead." Vincent said encouragingly

"I'm sure you've heard of the original family right?" She tensed up as she watched both of them slowly look at each other in shock. "Well I have major history with them since you know…doppelganger and all." She tried to play dumb. "I was turned into a vampire the night Klaus Mikaelson killed me as a sacrifice so he could become a hybrid. The Salvatore's couldn't handle the fact that I made a deal with Elijah and was willingly dying so my friends and family would be safe so they force fed me their blood before the ritual."

Marcel couldn't believe what he was hearing. Klaus Mikaelson. His sire. Family. Or once family…someone he hadn't seen in over 100 years.

"I never wanted to be a vampire." Elena continued not seeing the recognition flash on Marcel and Vincent's faces. "They knew that and didn't care. When I finally got a grip and accepted this was the new me they couldn't handle it. They were used to sweet, innocent, fragile Elena Gilbert. I didn't want to be that girl anymore. The girl who let people hurt her…so we drifted.. I guess this was their last ditch effort."

Marcel couldn't help himself. "Elijah and Klaus let you live after such a deception?" He felt his heart sink thinking Klaus had turned into a kinder person. He wished just for a secondthings were different between him and his former family.

"They have no clue I'm still alive." Elena laughed. "They left town soon after. Everyone played their parts well. They mourned so Klaus wouldn't get suspicious."

"He'd kill you if he knew you were still alive." Vincent said seriously looking at Marcel full knowing that this used to be Klaus' stomping grounds.

"So you're familiar with Klaus?" Elena asked them both.

"Everyone has heard of the original family. We however, are more familiar with them than the typical vampire." Marcel sighed knowing he should give his side of the story since she trusted them enough to tell hers. He felt a strange pull to protect Elena. He could tell she was nervous for what was going to come out of his mouth next. "Klaus is my sire, he adopted me when they came to New Orleans originally. Klaus saved me from living a life in slavery."

"So..are you going to turn me in?" Elena said nervous.

"No." Marcel chuckled. "They left when the great fire hit New Orleans 100 years ago. I stayed and rebuilt this place. Haven't heard from them since."

"I'm sorry that must suck." Elena gazed at him in such a way he didn't think he had ever been looked at before.

"Thanks," He didn't realize how much it hurt that they never came back for him until that moment. Or that he never let himself feel it if he was being honest with himself.

Marcel was interrupted from thought when his phone rang. Unknown number.

"Hello? – Oh Fierie what's up? – Got it." "Vincent I need to speak with you in private, excuse us Elena."

She watched them both get up and felt herself get a dull headache.

"There's word of Elijah in the area. There is no way in hell this is all a coincidence. It's too impossible. I'm going to go out and see what I can find out, keep her here while I'm out."

"Got it." Vincent nodded. "And Marcel—no one can know she's a traveler. It won't be safe for her."

"Understood." He nodded.

"Hey Elena I'm- oh shit." Marcel ran to Elena who was unconscious on the ground crumpled into a ball. He checked her over, nothing seemed to be injured.

"What happened can you tell?"

Vincent put his hands on Elena, channeling her. His eyes blinked rapidly as he saw images appear in his mind. He jumped back as Elena's eyes shot open, grayed over.

"Let fate play out." She said robotically before her eyes closed and she slumped unconscious again.

"What the fu-"

"It's a warning from the ancestors." Vincent shook nervously interrupting Marcel.

"What does it mean?"

"Only time will tell." Vincent said quietly as he leaned back on the ground looking at Elena.

"What did you see?" he watched Vincent stare at him blankly. "When you channeled her." He said more firmly.

"Klaus."
