Chapter: Library
The library had an alcove that Luz had instantly taken a liking to. The windowsill bed sat next to a window enchanted to cycle through the most beautiful places throughout the Magic Realm. Although "beautiful " is a relative term in this world.
The whole library was amazing. And Luz have the whole place to herself, because of the time of day.
She found a few some interesting books and more here; a book-like thing about the Magic Realm legend from long ago, a good book on the underwater city of Atlantis, The Dragon Manual: Everything we know about every dragon we know of, Werewolves and vampires evolution and development - Volume I.
After a long while Luz took a last book from the pile next to her. It was a hard-cover book titled 'The Essential Guide of Magic Users and Different Kinds of Magic.'
She opened it only to see the pages covered with elaborate and complicated symbols in the shape of... letters?
"Who is writing a book in a language other than the book' title?" Luz asked as she flips through the book. Nothing in pages makes any sense. It also have a couple of pictures. They looks interesting but descriptions and captions under these pictures, as well as the entire book were written in a strange language.
The teen was about to set the book down when she found something between the pages. A single piece of glass-like material with a slim metal handle on one side. The whole thing was scarcely the size of her hand, and had kind of green button.
Her finger hit the button, activating it's yellow glow Staring at the page through it Luz watched in wonder as the mysterious words written in the book turned into English.
Alchemy
The power to utilize alchemy. It's form of Science-Magic Mixture. Practitioners of this magic are known as Alchemists. The alchemical operation consisted essentially in separating the prima materia, the so-called chaos, into the active principle, the soul, and the passive principle, the body, which were then reunited in personified form. User can utilize Alchemy, focusing on Elemental Transmutation (ranging from transforming base materials into purer (lead or iron into silver or gold), to making permanent changes on the state of matter (making glass malleable or durable), etc.), andvarious forms of Elemental Manipulation (especially electricity and fire).
Shamanism
The ability to perceive, contact, and bargain or control the spiritual world. Shamanistic worldview and magic, is based on the premise that the visible world is pervaded by invisible forces and spirits which affect the lives of the living things, the elements and nature in general. A shaman is someone who has both ability and training to both perceive the spirits and their effects and how to contact and manipulate them to abide by the shaman's will. By manipulating the spirit-world, shamans can direct the spirits use of their abilities and powers for their behalf in a vast variety of ways.
Magician/Wizards
This magic type requires training and practice. Also genetic and personal affinity for this kind of sorcery are very important. The use of magic also requires energy, usually provided by the user. Wizards says that "magic can be considered a substance and sorcery the manipulation of that substance". Wizards magic can be channeled in a two of ways:
-Spoken words are a common method. A variety of languages are used, though an individual sorcerer will typically use a single language almost exclusively; for example Beatrix Noctrum used Latin spoken backwards.
-Magical objects can be also used to enhance and channel the user's magical powers.
Luz flipped a few pages and used the glass-like translator again.
Witches
There's two kinds of witches in the Boiling Isles. Wild witches and Coven witches. The same rule applies to both of them and they used the same form of magic, but they have different way of life.
~Wild witches appear to live primarily in parts of this island where magic power just flowing like a river. They follows the path and philosophies used by the first witches, and their behavior is usually somewhat eccentric.
~Coven witches are witches that are part of Coven System. The Coven System is a system for categorizing magic into specific disciplines. There are nine main covens with hundreds of other covens beneath them.
The main covens are:
-Abomination
-Bard
-Beast Tamer
-Construction
-Healing
-Illusions
-Oracle
-Plant
-Potions
Technically, witches are able to learn all form of witches magic. However, normally almost 90 percent of the witches have a natural talent for only one or two types of magic. It is precisely because of this that most of them decide to join the coven to amplify their inborn magic type and practice the profession which requires do the magic of that coven.
However, the decision to become member of coven should be planned and extremely well thought over. Whenever someone joins a coven, their arm is branded with the coven's sigil, and all of their other magical attributes are sealed away. The seal make them only able to do the magic of that coven. Legally, any witch has the right to transfer to another coven, but the coven seal can be changed only one a 30 year.
Alchemists
Their whole system is constantly transformed, so Alchemists society cannot be reduced to a single definition. However, the Alchemists magic system consists of some 30 types of alchemist, each divided into tribes. Tribes usually are group of alchemist who working on a particular kind of materia, and conducting an experiment in very specific place.
The example:
- The tribe of Petropyros Alchemist only works with Infinitum, and their head office is located in the vicinity of the Ajksa volcano.
Shamans
They are separated into the clans. Each of the clan represent a different aspect of spirits nature; Earth, Forest, Air, Sea, Lava, Light, Darkness. Membership in a clan is usually determined by blood relations and genetics, which is vital in the usage of more complicated shamans magic techniques dependent on shaman's soul magic or their Chanul nature.
The Seven Basic Clans focused only on the one of aspect of spirits nature, however, there are also other clans called "Combined Clans" whose members by using two or three basic spirits nature simultaneously, can create a completely new kind of spirits nature with unique properties that wouldn't exist on its own.
Wizards
They are classified into four types: Beginner, the First Circle, Grand Master and Supreme Wizard. With each first three being further divided into specialized types. Wizards are additionally divided into 3 rings; Mind, Body and Heart who practice a very different philosophy of magic.
•Mind Ring Motto- Even if something is unfamiliar to us, we can learn it very quickly.
•Body Ring Motto- Any problem can be solved by hitting it or hitting it a lot with right spell.
•Heart Ring Motto- Magic and any world trying to balance itself out.
The next chapter was titled "Life associate and Amplifiers"
Each magic users has a proper associate who accompanies them for most of their life. Helping, protecting and providing support for them.
Palisman - a magical totem that sits atop a witch's staff and by all rights, an object rather than a living creature. Despite this, a palisman is an independent, sapient entity capable of having consciousness and detaching itself from the staff, though still subservient to the witch who owns their staff.
Charmnions - a sentient large golem-like creatures with pink and white or magenta runes in their skin(not to be confused with Abomination). They are brought to life from stone totems by Alchemist. Charmnions have a sense of loyalty, but they never had any feelings for their masters.
Animal familiar - a small animal or imp kept as a wizard's attendant, given to them by the mentor or inherited from another member of family.
Chanuls - a special type of spirit that is the physical manifestation of a shamans souls and their inner basic magic natures element. Despite being part of their shaman soul, they had a own personality.
Luz flipped the page.
Amplifiers are objects that increase a magic users' power and external source of magic to cast spells. There are four types of Amplifiers:
Witch's Staffs - They are usually awarded to a witch as part of their education. A staffs can function as both transportation, weaponry, and also familiars. They have power embedded into them to allow a witch to use powerful spells without using their own magical bile up.
Shaman's Tambourine - For a shaman to obtain tambourine, must complete an Spirits Trial challenge by defeating Totem Guardian Spirit.
Tambourines function as a link between the shaman, spirits and shaman's heart magic essential. Their magic source comes from a magic crystal called a manameum.
Alchemist's Gauntlets - They are crafted by "Creator", the main blacksmith of Alchemical tribe and has to be earned from the Alchemist temple by proving yourself to the main Alchemist. Gauntlets enhance the manipulation of elements, however, allow Alchemists also to absorb and synthesize the mass, properties, and chemical makeup of matter to change their body into living matter in the shape of the Alchemist.
Wizard's Bracelet - They are special omni-purpose tools that come from magical jewels brought to wizards by their animal familiar. Bracelets serves as a container for wizard's magic and performs spells.
Some people have suggested that the blood should also be set out in Amplifiers list, and the reason for this is Blood Magic*[more on page 256].
The teen raise one eyebrow and take a look at this page.
Blood Magic
This magic is older than the Boiling Isles, with blood and sacrifice being powerful magic in some of the oldest tales. Spilling of blood is a potent force in the working of magic. It may be a token sacrifice, but it may also be the loss of life that fuels the spell. Some blood may be indicated to be more powerful than others. Common types are dragon blood, human blood or the blood of a special line. Sometimes only a single person's blood has power, and any other blood is powerless.
BLOOD MAGIC OVERLAPS WITH BLACK MAGIC AND THE DARK ARTS. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND PROHIBITED - IN ALL MAGIC REALM.
Luz stared at page for a moment, not really reading again, but taking a minute to process information.
Blood. Humans have it, witches have it, even demons have it. But blood is more more unique than she thought. Any spells that require blood as a reagent will probably be either extremely powerful, Black/Forbidden Magic, or both. And some blood may be indicated to be more powerful than others. Human blood is one of them. She is human. Wait, does this mean...
A loud "WHAM" sound echoed throughout library, pulling her out of the downward swirl her mind had started to become.
Luz gathered book and placed it on a small shelf above her head. It sounded like body hit the ground. Someone must've fallen on the way down from the ladder, with the books in their arms. The teen girl know from experience how painful and dangerous can be a fall like that.
She move ten feet into library and turned onto Library Historical Section. A few books lay on the ground but nobody was here.
"Hellooooo?" Luz called out, being met with the same echo several times. "Is anybody there?"
There was a movement in the lower shelf only a few yards away.
Follow her curiosity Luz step forward.
