(A/N: So here we are with Chapter 2 of the "Family Starters" re-write. Now let's see what's gonna happen!)

It was still fall in the city of Petropolis, but a month has passed since Dudley and Kitty tried for a child. They're not sure if they're expecting a baby yet, but I'm sure they'll find out soon enough. Hey, why don't we head on over to their place and see what they're up to on this fine Tuesday morning?

Dudley woke up to find himself alone in bed when the alarm went off. He shut off the alarm and got out of bed to look for his wife. It didn't take long for him to find her. She was in the bathroom, throwing up in the toilet.

"Kitty, are you okay?" Dudley asked.

"No." Kitty replied, sounding miserable as she flushed the toilet.

"How long have you been in here?" Dudley asked.

"About 15 minutes before the alarm went off." Kitty said.

"Aww..." Dudley said. He felt bad for his wife. Then he said, "You can't work today. Not when you're this sick."

"I know." Kitty answered, not happy.

"If I were you, I'd get back in bed. But then again, maybe you should wait until we both know that you're done throwing up." Dudley told her.

"Right. So in the meantime, why don't you call T.U.F.F. and tell the Chief that I can't work today?" Kitty suggested.

"Okay." Dudley said. He grabbed his cell phone and dialed the number for T.U.F.F.

After two rings, the Chief picked up.

"Chief, it's Dudley. Kitty's sick, so she can't come to work today." Dudley said.

"She's sick? Well, that's not good. Tell her that I hope she feels better soon." the Chief said.

"I will." Dudley promised, and when he ended the call, he turned to Kitty and said, "You're legal, and the Chief hopes you feel better soon."

"Thank you." Kitty moaned, turning to look at her husband.

"You want some breakfast?" Dudley asked her, but he regretted the question when Kitty turned back to the toilet and started throwing up again.

"I'll take that as a no." Dudley said.

"You got that right. Don't mention food to me." Kitty said when she finally stopped throwing up.

"I'll keep quiet about it. Anyways, are you done throwing up yet?" Dudley asked.

"I think..." Kitty said, flushing the toilet again.

"Well, I think I'll put you back in bed." Dudley said.

"Not yet." Kitty said. She marched over to the sink, brushed her teeth, and gargled with mouthwash. When she finished, she said, "There. That takes care of that."

"For now. Let's get you back in bed." Dudley said.

Kitty allowed Dudley to pick her up and put her back in the bed. Once she was under the covers again, Dudley said, "I am going to bring you a glass of water, though. Is that okay?"

"Yeah. I think I can handle that." Kitty said.

"Hang on a second." Dudley said. He moved the wastebasket in their room close to Kitty's side of the bed and said, "There. Now if you have to throw up while I'm at work, you can do it without having to leave the bed."

"Thank you." Kitty replied.

Then Dudley went downstairs to get Kitty a glass of water. He wondered if he should give her some saltine crackers to help settle her stomach, but he decided against it. He also grabbed himself a cereal bar, which he would eat on the way to work. When he brought Kitty her water, he gave her a kiss and said, "I love you. Feel better soon."

"I love you, too, and I'll try." Kitty replied.

The two hugged, and then Dudley made his way to work.

When Dudley arrived, Bruce and Katrina greeted Dudley, but they were surprised to see that Kitty was not with him.

"Where's Kitty?" Bruce asked.

"At home. She's sick." Dudley answered.

"It's not anything really bad, is it?" Katrina asked.

"I don't think so. She was throwing up this morning, and I don't think it's the stomach flu. She would've sounded sick, too, but she only sounded miserable." Dudley said.

"Maybe it's a one-time thing and she'll be fine tomorrow." Bruce said.

"Probably." Dudley said.

The morning passed quickly, and when it was time for Dudley's lunch break, the first thing he did was call Kitty. He felt the need to check up on her.

"How are you feeling?" Dudley asked Kitty.

"I haven't thrown up since you left." Kitty replied.

"Really? That's good." Dudley said.

"I've been able to get up and walk around. I think I'm gonna be okay." Kitty said. She even sounded like she was doing fine.

"Are you sure?" Dudley asked.

"Yes." Kitty told him.

"Okay. I believe you." Dudley replied.

When he got home from work, Kitty seemed to be perfectly fine. She was feeling well enough to fix a nice dinner for the both of them that night.

"So you think you'll be able to work tomorrow?" Dudley asked.

"Yeah." Kitty replied.

But the next morning, Dudley awoke to find Kitty in the bathroom again. Not surprisingly, she was throwing up again.

"Again?" Dudley asked Kitty as she leaned over the toilet.

"I don't know how it happened. I thought I was okay." Kitty groaned.

"I'll call the Chief." Dudley said, grabbing his cell phone and calling the Chief. Once that was done, Dudley said, "Okay, Kitty. You're legal again."

"Thanks, Dudley." Kitty said, still leaning over the toilet.

Dudley went to work that day, and when he called Kitty during his lunch break, she seemed to be okay, just like she was the previous day.

"That's weird..." Dudley said as he ended the call.

"She's fine again?" Katrina asked, remembering what Dudley told her and Bruce after he got off the phone with Kitty the other day.

"Yeah. I don't know what's going on." Dudley said.

The next morning, Kitty was sick again, and Dudley said, "This can't be good, Kitty. This is the 3rd day in a row you're going to miss work. Maybe you should see the vet."

"I think I will." Kitty said. She picked up the phone and called the vet, but the vet wouldn't be able to see her until the following day.

"I guess I won't be at work tomorrow, either." Kitty said to Dudley, who was on the phone with the Chief.

"And she won't be able to make it tomorrow, Chief. She can't see the vet until tomorrow." Dudley said to their boss.

"Perhaps the vet knows what's wrong with her. And I hope so, because Kitty hardly ever gets sick. If she's this sick, then something is really wrong." the Chief said.

"I know. I hope it's nothing really bad, because I don't want to lose Kitty. She's very special to me." Dudley said.

And the next day, it came as no surprise that Kitty wasn't feeling well again. But this was the day she'd find out what was wrong. So when it came time for her appointment, she made her way to the vet's office. To her surprise, the vet said she was perfectly healthy.

"But if I'm fine, then why have I been sick every morning? And it's always in the morning, when I'm supposed to be getting ready to go to work." Kitty said.

"Maybe you're pregnant? Morning sickness is a pregnancy symptom." the vet suggested.

Kitty hadn't thought about that, but then she remembered something very important. She said she'd wait a month or two before testing herself.

"You think?" Kitty asked.

"It's possible. I'll give you a pregnancy test, but it'll be a few days before the results come back." the vet said.

"Okay. May I go back to work on Monday?" Kitty said.

"Sure." the vet said.

"Thank you." Kitty said.

And so ends Chapter 2. How will Dudley handle the news that he and Kitty might be expecting a child? If you stay tuned for Chapter 3, you may find out.
