(A/N: And now it's time for Chapter 6! Wow, I can't believe we've come this far! I'm going to get it started!)
After finding out that they had triplets on the way, Dudley and Kitty figured that now was a good time to work on a nursery for the kids. And since their house had plenty of rooms, finding the right room shouldn't be too hard.
Kitty eventually decided that the nursery should be one of the rooms close to their own.
"I can understand. That way, if one or all three of the kids wake up needing something in the middle of the night, we can get to them fast so they won't have to wait long for it." Dudley said.
"That's right. However, I thought of something else we really should do before we start working on the nursery or anything else." Kitty said.
"And that is...?" Dudley asked.
"We'd better baby-proof the house. That's important." Kitty said.
"What are you saying? I thought you wanted to be a mother. Doesn't baby-proofing the house defeat the purpose of having kids?" Dudley asked.
"Dudley, baby-proofing the house means moving things out of the kids' reach. Things the kids shouldn't be getting into, especially when they learn how to crawl, pull themselves to a standing position, and walk." Kitty said.
"Why now? The kids haven't been born yet. And doesn't it take a while before babies learn how to do those things?" Dudley asked.
"'Here's the thing: if we don't do it now, we might forget to later on, and then we'll have to pay the price when the kids learn these things." Kitty told him.
"Good point." Dudley said.
So Dudley and Kitty moved everything that their babies could possibly get a hold of and put it out of reach. When they finished doing that, Dudley said, "Okay, now we can work on a nursery, right?"
"Yes, we can." Kitty said.
Later, the two of them were at the store together, looking over the different colors of paints.
"So, what color should we paint the nursery?" Dudley asked.
"Either yellow, white, or even cream could work for a nursery, but I say we should paint it yellow." Kitty said, turning her attention to the yellows.
"Why yellow?" Dudley asked.
"Partly because we don't know if the babies are all boys or all girls. There's a good chance that there might be one boy and two girls, or one girl and two boys. Yellow works for either gender. The other reason is that white could work, but if any of the kids inherit your fur color..." Kitty hinted.
"They'd blend right in with it. Yeah, I see your point." Dudley said, before adding, "And we probably shouldn't get cream because it's kind of close to white. That won't work, either."
"Let's see..." Kitty said, and she and Dudley both decided on a nice pastel yellow for the room.
"We should also get some curtains for the windows..." Kitty said.
"Can those be white?" Dudley asked.
"Yes." Kitty smiled.
The following weekend, Dudley and Kitty went out and got the paint and curtains for the nursery. After they got the nursery painted, they had to wait for the paint to dry before Kitty could hang the curtains.
"It still looks empty." Dudley said.
"We need to get some furniture for the nursery, Dudley. Then the nursery won't look so empty. Plus, just wait until the kids are born. This room is gonna look full once they're in it." Kitty told him.
"True." Dudley smiled.
They did have to get some furniture for the nursery, and they got it set up easily enough. But...
"Think we should get some other things?" Dudley asked.
"I might get some toys, clothes, books, and other things if I get to have a baby shower." Kitty said.
"When are you going to have that?" Dudley asked.
"Probably a little further into my pregnancy." Kitty replied.
"Do you want me to be there for the shower?" Dudley asked.
"Why? Do you want to be?" Kitty asked.
"I was just curious." Dudley said.
"You don't have to attend the baby shower if you don't want to. I am surprised, though, that you asked about being there, because I've seen episodes of shows where a baby shower takes place, and the husband usually doesn't want to attend. But try not to worry about it now. I'm not planning on having it, or these kids, for a few more months." Kitty told him.
"I know. I still can't wait for them to get here." Dudley said.
"Neither can I." said Kitty.
Sorry this chapter is so short. I'll try to make the next one longer if I can.
