Dear Jean-Paul,
I am so glad to have heard from you again. I've been sick with worry about you since your last letter. I just got word a few days ago that my father died. I've been with friends every day for the past few weeks.
At home we're doing all we can to help with the war. Some of the women have had to take over some of the mens jobs, in factories, and on the farms. With so many of the men over sea's, there's just not enough women to go around.
Last week Jennifer got a letter from her brother, father, and husband. They said that they heard that we might be winning the war, and that it won't be much longer. She just got word that her father is missing in action. He was just down in Somme, France, and they can't find him.
One of the few women that live in the fort has been telling the women in their husband, father, boyfriend, or brother is deceased, missing or wounded. Originally it was a taxi driver that was going around telling the women. There haven't been very many lucky ones, who haven't lost a dear one. Most of our friends have been a few of those lucky ones though. I have had a bit of luck though.
When you come home I would love to talk about the question of marriage. I can't wait until you come home. All of our friends will be happy to finally get some good news for once. Do you know when you will be coming home? So far I have a big welcome home party planned for you. Every ones so excited, and can't wait untill you come home, and neither can I.
If I were you I wouldn't want to lift another shovel in my life either. It must be back breaking work, to have to dig about 400 miles. Especially if it's mud that your digging.
I am so glad that your ok, and haven't gotten trenchfoot, dysentery, or cholera. I hope that you continue to be careful and lucky. I will continue to pray every night for yours and other solders well being and safety. Please be care ful when you go up and over the trench wall. I love you and I miss you a lot. Lots of hugs and kisses coming your way.
All my love
Claudette
