Kent

- The Stalwart Knight –

Kent was a knight of Caelin, he had been ever since the age of 19. He had devoted 10 long years of his life to the service of his country. His red armor shone brightly in the sunlight, almost identical to the fiery color of his hair. He had all the qualities of a good Paladin; bravery, strength, skill, speed, loyalty and selflessness. He was peerless on the battlefield of Caelin, cutting down whole bands of brigands with his well-worn blade. He had a close walk with God, so close, in fact, he could've happily died right then and there if it was for His glory. It seemed he had everything, yet he still felt that something was missing from his life. Kent was still speculating the gap and how to fill it when his childhood friend and fellow cavalier Sain walked toward him. "Greetings Kent!" shouted Sain, "Wherefore dost thou not affect a cheerful countenance?"

"Sain, you'd do well to cease your eloquence before it gets you into trouble." Kent retorted. He was tired of Sain constantly using words that no one else understood. "Go and bother someone else with your 'sophisticated' speech."

"Ho! What is the subject of your contemplating that provokes you to such wrath! Here we have Kent, the level-headed knight of all people, induced to anger!"

"You could reduce God himself to a state of ill humor, Sain," Kent returned exasperatedly, "I yield"

"Kent, I have been training with you for nine years now and have yet to see you yield so easily, pray tell, what is the matter?"

"I feel as if I have everything, everything, that is, except for a certain mysterious hole in my life that I cannot fill. If you have any knowledge in this matter, could you perchance inform me of how to solve my plight?" Kent hated asking Sain for advice but he was truly desperate.

"Kent my befuddled friend, I think you are in need of a woman!"

"Sain! I will have no talk of such crude subjects as your incessant flirting with the ladies!" Sain had an inescapable reputation for flirting and by this time, Kent had grown weary of it. "Women are to be treated with the utmost respect and dignity!"

"Bah, you and your old-fashioned idealism. Honestly Kent, do you really think women will just approach and ask to be courted? You have to pursue them!"

When would Sain learn, mindlessly flattering women wasn't going to get him anywhere in life. Then again he did have an interesting point, Kent was still without a woman, yet Sain could choose from nearly any. Kent didn't desire the kind of woman that would love any man, he longed for a woman that found him to be her only true love. "Sain, if you can help me to discover the true love of a virtuous woman, then I would be forever indebted to you."

"What are fellow knights for? Of course I will help! Onward, to thy wondrous maidens!"

To be continued...
