Northward journey
They walked northward, guided by their old Shaman and the signs of the stars, and even when the voice of the old prophet was silenced to become only a memory and the night sky became cloudy and dark they kept walking northward by the faith inspired by the myths of their fiery and justice-hungry guardian, who was surely watching over them every step of the journey until they reached their destination safe and sound.
The journey had been terrible. From so much walking in the harsh rays of the sun, their skin had burned completely to the point of looking more like old leather than actual skin and their teeth had begun to fall out, even the nobles who walked with them looked like wrinkled old men made of wood when they finally sighted in the distance the flat, green lands they had been looking for so long. Then the people said to themselves, "We are far, far from home and far from the lands and peoples we know. We are on the edge of the world, being so far from its handiwork we will be forgotten by our gods and guardians."
The chief's daughter and the new shaman of the tribe perched on her older brother's shoulders and mocked them from above.
"Do you think our deities are so small? They created the whole world," cried the young woman. "They built the ground we walk on right now with the immortal carcass of the great reptile of the many claws and the many jaws, it was their very blood that gave movement to the sun and made the field fertile for us to grow our food. They created everything, do you realize that they are also lords and masters on this land? If we die here we will be received by them with open arms in the other world!"
And the walkers cheered and laughed, and followed her without hesitation to the end of their days.
And it was hundreds of years before the coppery denizens of the sun god's nation once again migrated en masse to that northern land. When they arrived, they discovered that their ancient, firey and justice-hungry guardian was already waiting for them.
