Summary: Singapore was different than any of their other encounters and it changed things. The way they worked together to clear KID's name, seeing KID getting shot... It made Shinichi wonder what exactly they were, because they weren't merely thief and detective.

Singapore Serenade

That Stupid Thief That Stole His Heart

Shinichi couldn't believe that he got abducted by Kaitou KID.

Well, no. The unbelievable part was that he could believe it. It was absolutely a KID thing to do. Everything about this was very much in line with the impossible thief. Abducting Shinichi, stuffing him into a suit-case to smuggle him to Singapore, making him out to be some random child instead of Conan. While the thief pretended to be Shinichi, he could have smuggled Conan in as Conan, but that way, Conan would have ended up spending much more time with the Mouris. And that way laid an escape for Conan. No, the stupid thief wanted him isolated and reliant on KID so Conan would have no choice than to help him. And... there laid the 'stupid'.

Like Shinichi wouldn't help him anyway. Not with the heist, not with crimes, but clearing his name. Solving murders was literally what Shinichi did and this was a murder case. And Shinichi would not let an innocent suffer for that. Though Kaitou KID was most certainly not innocent, in general, he was innocent in this case. There was not a speck of doubt in Shinichi's mind at any point. Kaitou KID would never take a life, he would never intentionally hurt someone. So yes, Shinichi would have always helped KID, if the blasted thief had just asked instead of kidnapping him.

It wasn't like this was the first time they would have worked together. KID pretending to be Kogoro during the Detective Gathering had been a help and Shinichi had worked with him without revealing the thief's identity, even though he had known it essentially since they reached the Sunset Mansion. The two of them had steered a plane together before. They had taken on terrorists on Suzuki's airship together. They worked well together and they didn't do it rarely.

Shinichi glared pointedly at the thief, arms crossed over his chest. KID just continued snoring.

"Stupid thief," whispered Shinichi as he slowly sunk lower on their bed.

Their bed. Because the stupid, cheap thief had only gotten them one room. With one bed. KID was sprawled out on his half of the bed, snoring peacefully. Slowly, Shinichi inched closer, until he was leaning right over the sleeping thief. He leaned down more, looking as close as he could.

They weren't identical. They looked incredibly similar, but there were differences. The thief's jawline was sharper than Shinichi's. His nose, though not by much. The one thing Shinichi had already known to be different was the one he couldn't see right now. KID's eyes. They were a deep, dark blue, so much darker than Shinichi's own. He'd looked into those eyes so often before, every time the thief would pick him up and carry him around or fly with him, every time Shinichi got up close to KID during a regular heist, when he was not actively pretending to be Shinichi and thus wearing light-blue contacts. Shinichi would be lying if he'd say he hadn't memorized those eyes. They were beautiful. Dark and mysterious, shining like sapphires.

"My, tantei-kun, are you trying to take advantage of a poor, helpless thief...?"

Those beautiful sapphire-blue eyes were staring mischievously at him and with a yelp did Shinichi jump back, his cheeks dark-red. He hadn't meant for the thief to wake up during his close-up observations. Glaring, Shinichi sat up some. Though it was ineffective due to their size-difference. He had to glare up at his look-alike now that KID was sitting up.

"No, idiot," Shinichi huffed and gathered himself. "I was trying to study you."

"Well, that is absolutely no less creepy," commented KID amused.

"It's not like you hold still a lot during a heist," Shinichi crossed his arms over his chest. "I'm trying to memorize your face so I can figure out who you are. Obviously."

"Right. Of course," KID didn't sound like he believed him. "Even great detectives need sleep, especially when they have a tough case to crack, tantei-kun."

Shinichi grumbled, but he had to admit that KID was right with that. Heaving a sigh, Shinichi collapsed backward onto the pillow. He needed to get some sleep.

Kaito woke up with a small body snuggled up against him. Blinking slowly, Kaito tilted his head to look at Conan, curled together on top of Kaito's chest like a kitten. Grinning to himself, Kaito stretched and yawned. Cuddly tiny detective. He'd probably get kicked for that observation.

Last night, when he had woken up, he had nearly had a heart-attack upon seeing his tantei-kun that close to his face. For a moment, he had thought the detective was trying to kiss him. Which woke very conflicting feelings in Kaito, because kissing Conan was not overly appealing. But that mind of his? The thought of kissing Kudou Shinichi, well now, that Kaito could very much get behind.

Kaito was madly, deeply in love with his tantei-kun. He'd known that the detective's physical appearance was not his real body, he had known the brilliant mind he was engaging with belonged to one beautiful teen detective. He'd excessively studied Shinichi, videos, interviews, pictures, articles about him. The most rewatched videos were the ones from Shinichi's soccer games.

Oh boy, oh boy was Kaito attracted to Kudou Shinichi. Yes, they superficially looked quite similar, but the more Kaito studied the other, the more differences did he spot. His favorite were Shinichi's eyes – because those were actually the same in Conan too. That soft blue like the endless sky that Kaito loved to soar. Their hair was different too; Kaito's unruly and some shades darker than Shinichi's, whose hair seemed to never be out of place. Then there were some other things, that Kaito had come to appreciate more and more and that were the reason Kaito loved rewatching Shinichi's soccer games. The athlete's body, his legs. Those strong thighs from a life-time of playing soccer, the way the game had refined and shaped Shinichi's ass and how the soccer shorts showed both of those off. Kaito had been very hypnotized by those.

His tantei-kun was an enigma. Kaito hadn't figured out how exactly the gorgeous teen detective had been turned into the adorable pocket-sized version (though his guess was on magic; Shinichi was an expert at pissing off people, he surely had pissed off a witch and got hexed), but Kaito knew for a fact that this brilliant mind belonged in a very appealing body.

"You have to stop trying to flirt with Ran," Conan's voice was a muffled grumbling.

Kaito noted the lack of movement. His chibi detective was still snuggled up to his chest. Cute.

"Aw, tantei-kun, no need to be jealous," Kaito laughed teasingly.

Usually, the nee-chan noticed that Kaito was not Shinichi due to that flirting, that was true. But there was no reason for tantei-kun to get jealous like that. Kaito would never do anything serious with Shinichi's girlfriend. He loved his tantei-kun far too much to betray him like that.

"No, idiot," Conan rolled his eyes and sat up, still sitting on top of Kaito. "Ran and I are friends."

"Huh. And here I thought you two..." Kaito motioned vaguely.

Sighing, Conan tilted his head back, looking up at the ceiling. "Maybe once upon a time, perhaps in a timeline where I had never gotten turned into Conan, we'd be going to school together still, we might have gotten together. But that's not... reality. The reality is that Shinichi has been gone for two years and it wouldn't be fair to give her false hope and string her along for that long. The reality is that for the past nearly two years, I have been treated like a little brother by her and treated her like my sister in return and whatever romantic feelings I might have once had for her have long since died because of that. So you, flirting with her, while wearing my face, is giving you away."

"Oh. Huh. Okay. Good to know," Kaito tried to suppress his own giddiness.

And here he had thought he never stood a chance because Shinichi's heart already belonged to another. It might still belong to someone else, but now there was some kind of hope.

"Also, be nicer to Kyogoku-kun," Conan narrowed his eyes at Kaito.

"What? Why's that? He's dangerous. It's better if I keep my distance," Kaito made a face.

"He is the only person here who doesn't actually know me. Shinichi. So he is the least likely to figure out that you're not me. He has also never met me as Shinichi, so you are currently leaving the first impression he gets of me. And I need you to leave a good impression," the way Conan narrowed his eyes threateningly was very effective.

"Why... is that so important to you?" Kaito tilted his head intrigued.

"Sonoko might be a pain most of the time, but she is also one of my oldest and best friends. And she loves him. She really loves him. When I get my body back, I want to be able to do things with them, with Ran and Sonoko and consequently, also with Sonoko's boyfriend. That's going to be hard if he hates me for something you did while pretending to be me."

That was probably the first time Shinichi had brought up turning back. Interesting. Kaito had hoped that was an actual option, but he had never dared to ask about it. This was very good information and Kaito was feeling like prying for more – how did he plan on turning back, when did he think he could be able to turn back, what was currently stopping him from doing so. He held back.

"I can be on my best behavior," declared Kaito with a bright smile. "For you, tantei-kun."

He winked at the detective, delighting in the flustered look he got in return.

"Time to get up, lazy thief. We have a lot to do," Conan hopped off the bed.

/break\

"Are you going to be alright, Sonoko... nee-chan?"

Conan's stomach had dropped when he had heard of the attack. The Mouris and him had immediately headed to the hospital to check on Sonoko. Seeing her in the hospital bed, he nearly forgot his cover. She meant a lot to him. Sure, she annoyed him with her nagging and her KID obsession, but together with Ran, she had been his oldest friend. The thought of something happening to her scared him more than he would have thought. The blonde offered him a brave and unusually soft smile as she reached out to ruffle his hair.

"Hey now, pipsqueak, I'm not that easily taken out," Sonoko grinned. "No reason to worry."

"And I'm sure Kyogoku-kun will watch over Sonoko," assured Ran. "Let's let her rest, Arthur-kun."

She hugged 'Arthur' from behind and picked him up to carry him out of the room, past Makoto, who stood there, looking incredibly guilty. Shinichi felt a pang for the guy. He'd been right there, he was a martial artist, he should have been able to protect Sonoko, but he wasn't and the guilt over that was going to weight him down heavily. Where was KID?

No, wait. Those weren't related. A boyfriend worrying about the person he loved was in no way or shape related to KID so why had the thief come to his mind in that moment? Still. Shinichi hadn't seen his thief since they had discovered Rachel's body earlier today. And 'Shinichi' hadn't shown up to the hospital now either, which was very out of character for KID.

"Ne, ne, Makoto-nii-san," Shinichi shrugged out of Ran's hold and ran over to him.

"Ah, Arthur-kun," Makoto forced a smile and went into his knees.

"She'll be fine," promised Shinichi in his most convincing child-voice. "Sonoko-nee-chan is very tough and I'm sure you did everything you could to protect her."

"Right," Makoto nodded half-heartedly. "You're right. Thank you, Arthur-kun."

Man, he was going to be glad when this whole Arthur act was going to stop. Like it wasn't already hard enough to be Shinichi and Conan. Smiling brightly, Shinichi turned toward Ran and bowed.

"I'll go home. Thank you for having me today, Ran-nee-chan."

"Will you be okay alone?" Ran frowned concerned.

"Yes! You should stay with Sonoko-nee-chan," Shinichi chirped happily. "Bye-bye!"

Besides, Shinichi had to track down his lost thief and see if the trickster was alright. Thankfully, Shinichi was very good at tracking down KID and thinking like the thief. He found him in a short time on top of a skyscraper. KID sat there, hunched over, shirtless. Shinichi tried not to be distracted by the way KID's back-muscles worked as he moved when Shinichi approached him, talking about Rachel's death and KID's framing, while KID pouted about being shot at.

"You're ridiculous, thief," commented Shinichi annoyed as he got closer. "Hold still, idiot."

The thief froze when Shinichi touched his shoulder. "W... What are you doing, tantei-kun?"

"You did a shoddy job at that, it's already bled completely through," commented Shinichi dryly, removing the bandage. "And considering how awkwardly you just slapped that bandage on, I doubt you properly cleaned the wound before dressing it. Just hold still and let me do this."

The thief tensed, as though he was considering to run. "I can take care of myself."

"Right. Sure. That's why you kidnapped me to clear your name. Because you can solve everything all on your own," Conan's voice was dripping with sarcasm. "Idiot."

"Stop calling me an idiot, tantei-kun, it's very rude," KID whined a little.

"If you stop being an idiot, I will stop calling you one," Shinichi was entirely unimpressed as he started properly cleaning the shot-wound. "You got shot. Don't get shot again."

"...You sound worried, tantei-kun," KID's voice dropped to a soft whisper.

"Because you keep getting shot!" Shinichi's voice rose to an angry yell before he took a slow breath to calm himself down. "Last time you got shot, I found your monocle and your dove and I thought you had died. This time when you got shot at, you just... disappeared for hours and I wasn't sure if you actually made it, because if you had made it, you would have come to the hospital to visit Sonoko, so they must have hit you and I didn't..."

"Oh. You actually are worried about me," this time, the thief sounded surprised.

At that, Shinichi paused in his motions. "Don't let it get to your head that I don't want to see you dead. That's... such a low bar to clear, stupid thief. Just stop getting shot, okay?"

He grumbled, but he also knew that he was blushing and he was grateful that KID was turned away from him and couldn't see the blush. Shinichi wrapped a bandage around KID's shoulder and then moved on. He rounded the thief to check the other injuries on his torso.

"Stop fidgeting," complained Shinichi annoyed. "What? You think that your bare torso is going to give your secret identity away, KID-san? Unless you have a tattoo with your name and address, I doubt that. So let me see how bad your injuries really are."

"You're just trying to get a closer look," accused KID, turning his face away.

Shinichi rolled his eyes at that, poking KID in the ribs and making him wince. "Ah. Bruised ribs too then. Idiot. This time, for something else. We were sleeping next to each other last night. You keep carrying me around when we fly. You think your monocle and top-hat are that much of a disguise? I know what your face looks like. This isn't giving me anything about you that I didn't know."

Blinking slowly, the thief turned to actually look at him. Ah, there they were. Those dark sapphire-blue eyes that Shinichi loved so much. For their color, he loved their color. Not them, specifically. Flushing, Shinichi quickly looked away to instead focus on the scratched-up chest in front of him. Trying to focus on the injuries over the muscles. KID had a relatively defined six-pack and Shinichi was tempted to trace it with his fingers, but that would be very inappropriate.

"Thank you, tantei-kun," KID's voice was gentle. "For helping me with this case. And... this."

"You... are not a bad person, KID-san," Shinichi wet his lips slowly, considering his words. "I want to lock you away for the crimes you actually committed. Not see you behind bars for someone else's atrocities. And I definitely don't want to see you dead."

"My, that might just be the nicest thing you've ever said to me," teased KID.

"Welcome home, honey. You're late," greeted Kaito when the door finally opened.

He had to admit, he had been a little worried when leaving Shinichi with his gadgets on the roof-top. Sure, his little detective had stated he'd help Kaito either way. But still, this had been a sign of trust from him and then Shinichi up and disappeared. Not that Kaito hadn't been busy.

"I have more information," Conan's voice sounded very tired.

The shrunken teen kicked off his shoes and walked over to the bed to collapse on it face-first. He looked exhausted. Then again, today had been a very long, very taxing day. Kaito winced as he agitated his hurt shoulder. He slowly laid down on the bed, sighing contently. He needed rest too.

"I know I said it before, but... don't ever do this again, stupid thief," Shinichi ordered annoyed.

"I promise to never get framed for murder and then get shot at again," Kaito chuckled.

"Don't joke around about this," Shinichi groaned and crawled over closer.

Still chuckling, Kaito wrapped an arm around Conan's shoulders and pulled him closer. The detective only protested mildly, but he didn't actually move away. He allowed to be pulled against Kaito and then relaxed next to the thief. Kaito grinned pleased at that.

"We're going to solve this tomorrow and then... back home to our regular lives, tantei-kun."

He couldn't help but sound wistful at that. Their regular lives, as thief and detective. He honestly had enjoyed these past two days. It was so nice to work with his tantei-kun instead of against him. Yes, Kaito loved the thrill of the chase, when Shinichi was just half a step behind him, sometimes half a step ahead of him even. There was no excitement comparable to that.

But this was... different. It was nice. Working with tantei-kun, to solve the same puzzle. Having a partner out in the field with him who 100% had his back. Yes, Jii was trustworthy and Kaito valued the man a lot, but Jii was also already pretty old – he liked to complain whenever he had to run too much. Running was truly not a problem for Shinichi. And, no insult to Jii intended, Shinichi's mind was en par to Kaito's. There was no need to explain things, Shinichi was always up to speed. The two of them could quite literally finish each other's sentences when deducing.

"Good night, KID-san," whispered Shinichi, his head resting on the thief's chest.

"Good night, tantei-kun," Kaito grinned down at the tired detective.

Shinichi stealthily slipped out of the suit case and hid behind the professor to quickly get changed before Ran and the others would notice him. Thankfully the KID task-force distracted them.

"I knew you weren't Shinichi the whole time," commented Ran unimpressed, holding KID.

Shinichi winced, feeling bad for the thief. Haibara was watching him like a hawk already, as though she was piecing something together that even Shinichi couldn't grasp yet.

"Hah. So that is what that was for," the professor laughed, a hand on the handle of the suitcase.

"...What do you mean, hakase?" Shinichi asked very slowly.

Agasa froze, eyes wide, grip on the suit-case tightening. "Ah... Nothing, nothing, Shinichi-kun."

Haibara shot him an inquisitive glare. The scary ones that always had the professor cower.

"Well, you know how I am also creating gadgets for other people, not just you. Getting paid. To pay my bills," Agasa ruffled his hair awkwardly, not looking at the two kids. "I got an order for a suit-case that was extra padded, with an oxygen tank. I didn't think it was for kidnapping you."

Shinichi simply stared at the professor, unable to process what he had just learned. Before he had the chance to speak again, he got picked up by Ran, who enthusiastically hugged him.

"Conan-kun, I missed you," Ran smiled at him.

"Ah. Welcome home, Ran-nee-chan. Did you have a nice trip?"

With that, he got carried off and had no chance to interrogate the professor any further. His eyes trailed over Ran's shoulder toward the crowd of police men still fighting over capturing KID. One of them looked up, catching Shinichi's eyes and winking at him. Ah. As always, his thief prevailed.

/break\

Mouri Ran was dangerous. He should really start trying to stay away from her, especially when he was impersonating Shinichi. This had not once ended well for Kaito. He winced and rubbed his sore arm. He'd torn open the injury when trying to wiggle out of Ran's hold and escaping the police. That was it, Kaitou KID was going to take a week or two off to rest and recover.

"I should have gone to Singapore with you, young master," Jii sounded and looked guilty.

Why had Kaito not taken Jii with him? To not endanger him? Or because he had really wanted to spend time with tantei-kun all alone...? Kaito flushed as he unbuttoned his shirt and let Jii check on the injuries. He definitely needed stitches and he dreaded that already. Jii went to work on that and Kaito endured. He hated getting stitches.

"It all went well. And tantei-kun cleared my name, as promised," chimed Kaito. "All good."

"...A large building fell apart after a ship was driven into it, you got shot at and you were also nearly arrested at the airport," commented Jii, worry and irritation to equal parts on his face.

"And look at me, I am perfectly fine," commented Kaito, just to wince.

Jii lowered a look at him, though was interrupted by the sound of the bell above the entrance door of the Blue Parrot. Mh, timing. Well, the stitches were done. Kaito craned his neck to look at it.

"Go take care of your guests. The bar can use the patronage," ordered Kaito. "I'll change the rest of my bandages myself. And then I might rest a little..."

Despite not looking overly convinced, Jii left the backroom to take care of the customers. There was laughter then, surprising Kaito. Jii talked to someone, sounding excited. Everything was muffled through the door so he couldn't actually make out the voices. His curiosity would have him on the other side of the door, but for that, he'd have to first change the bandages. Bleeding teenagers seemed a little suspicious in a billiard bar. The pain was pretty bad now, after he got the stitches. Everything seemed to be pulsing and aching, so it took all his concentration to change the rest of the bandages. Thus, he missed that someone snuck up to him until there was a hand on his ribs.

"You really have to rest for the next week at least. If I as much as hear rumors about a heist, I will knock you unconscious with a soccer ball so you will be forced to rest."

Kaito froze mid-motion. Slowly, he turned toward the source of the voice, despite already knowing who it was. Cerulean eyes wiser than they should be stared him down. Kaito swallowed hard.

"Here," Conan handed him an ice-pack. "For your bruised ribs. The bartender gave it to me."

"What... are you doing in the back-room of a bar, little boy?" Kaito tried weakly.

"That was so half-hearted, it was pathetic," Shinichi sighed in disappointment.

Kaito huffed offended, accepting the ice-pack. "Well, excuse me for not being at the top of my game after the past three days. And it's not like I was expecting to see you here. Here. Why are you here and how are you here? Did you secretly bug me in my sleep last night...?"

The thoughtful look on Conan's face meant that he regretted not thinking of that himself. "No. I pushed the professor until he brought me here. And while he's distracting your friend at the bar, I snuck back here because it figures your accomplice isn't keeping KID on a billiard table in the main room of his bar. How is your shot-wound?"

"I got it stitched up, it'll be fine," Kaito managed a small grin at the detective's concern. "What do you mean you pushed the professor...? ...The professor. The professor."

Kaito's eyes widened and then, suddenly, he threw his head back and laughed whole-heartedly. The professor was the professor. This couldn't be true, but then it made all of the sense. Of course. Who else could build something as amazing and unique as Kaito's card-gun and virtually every gadget that has ever saved him during a heist. The man who had invented the super-charged shoes, the tracker-glasses, the tranquilizer watch. The same genius had created them all, mh.

"This is hilarious," commented Kaito once he regained his bearings. "Really, huh?"

"Mh. He slipped up about the suit-case," Conan looked so annoyed. "I should have figured this out sooner. Your gadgets. Nothing made to seriously harm or kill. All clever, useful and easy to hide."

Aw, his tantei-kun was upset that he hadn't figured it out on his own. How adorable. Slowly, Kaito laid down on the couch sideways, with the aching ribs up so he could press the ice on them. Conan sat down in front of him so Kaito could practically curl around him. Which helped, because it put less strain on his... everything, actually. Blue eyes turned to look at him, look him in the face.

"Do you not own a comb?" Conan reached a hand out to ruffle Kaito's hair.

"Hey! Not everyone can be a neat-freak like you," Kaito pouted, swatting at Conan's hand.

Shinichi chuckled softly to himself, a teasing sound. Silence befell them for a few moments, before the look on Conan's face changed. More calculating, more thoughtful. Figuring something out.

"Are you going to tell me your name on your own, or do I have to stick around and watch the old man until he slips up?" Shinichi asked, finally, his eyes narrowed at Kaito.

"Doesn't seem like a good idea to tell a detective my real name," Kaito quirked his lips. "Hello, tantei-kun. It's nice to meet you, I'm Kuroba Kaito. Now... what will you do with that information?"

"What am I supposed to do with that information?" Shinichi paused, huffing a little. "Run to Nakamori-keibu and, what, tell him that I figured out who KID really is because the guy making KID's gadgets also makes my gadgets? What gadgets, you ask, keibu? Well, funny story..."

Kaito laughed, throwing his head back. "I can just picture it."

"It'd incriminate Agasa-hakase in all of your crimes too. That aside... This isn't fun. Handing you off to the police right now wouldn't be earned. I want to capture you, during a heist. Fair and square."

He never was going to do that, Kaito knew. Deep down, he just knew. If Shinichi wanted, he could have arrested Kaito countless times at this point. But he always gave himself away, always stuck around to talk at length with Kaito instead of getting the cops.

"So... What does this mean now?" Kaito frowned. "Why did you come here, if not to arrest me?"

"I... don't know," admitted Shinichi. "I wanted to know. To see for myself. Now..."

"Mh," Kaito yawned, folding an arm beneath his head and closing his eyes. "Well, my detective ordered me to rest, so I will be doing that now. But hey, if you ever feel like playing billiard... the ordered bed-rest is only for the next week, after that I am allowed to do things again."

He could hear tantei-kun laugh and that was about the last thing he caught before falling asleep.

/break\

"You have it so bad, Kudou," noted Haibara with a knowing smirk.

"Is it so bad that I want the company of someone who knows and isn't you or the professor? To just spend time with someone without having to pretend I'm a child? Every time Hattori is here, Ran and the others are hovering close by so the majority of the time, I still have to play Conan. With you and the professor, the kids are around. Is it really that bad that I want something that is all mine?"

"Something? No. Someone, though?" Haibara shook her head a little as they continued on their way. "You don't just want time to be yourself. You want time with him. And that's dangerous."

"Because he's a criminal," Shinichi rolled his eyes. "I know."

"No. Because you're in the body of a nine year old," the look Haibara gave him was so judgmental, as though he was a complete moron. "You're setting yourself up for heart-break. Even if he respects you as his peer, what do you think will come from this romantically?"

"Ro... Ro..." Shinichi sputtered, his cheeks dark-red. "I don't... He's a criminal. I'm not..."

The look of disappointment sharpened even more. "Kudou, don't take me for a fool. Don't forget that I'm one of the few people you don't have to lie to. Unless... you are also lying to yourself."

Shinichi averted his eyes, glaring at the ground. No. He was a detective, he detected anomalies. And everything had felt suspicious since Singapore. During Singapore. If he was honest, for months prior to it. But Singapore had really shined a spotlight on it. He'd fallen asleep in the thief's arms, he had helped KID during a heist, then clearing his name, had bandaged him up. Once again, he had been left to believe KID had died and it broke his heart.

"So what," Shinichi's voice dropped to a whisper. "He makes me feel... so many things. I want to feel them. Even if I can't be with him. Even if I were myself again, what chance would I have with an internationally wanted criminal and womanizer like him? I... For as long as I can, I want to feel what he makes me feel and I want to forget that I'm Conan. And he makes me forget."

"You have it so bad, Kudou," Haibara smiled, though it seemed nearly compassionate. "Have fun."

She waved at him as their ways parted. As Shinichi stopped in front of the Blue Parrot. While Haibara continued, Shinichi tilted his head up to look at the sign. It had been an actual invitation, right? The drugged and injured thief hadn't just joked... right? Biting his lip, Shinichi opened the door and walked in. His eyes widened when he saw another teen detective and a Ran look-alike.

"Conan-kun! You came!" KID – no, Kaito – sounded overjoyed.

"You were serious," Hakuba grunted displeased with furrowed brows. "You truly did drag another detective into your mess, Kuroba-kun. And the KID Killer, at that. Do you want to go to jail?"

Kaito had put down the cue and rushed over to pick up Shinichi, hug him and whirl him around. Shinichi could see the wince on Kaito's face, implying his shoulder still wasn't fully healed. Idiot.

"What am I supposed to do with this?" Shinichi hissed into Kaito's ear. "Who are they?"

"They're my best friends, Conan-kun," Kaito smiled like a shark. "That's Hakuba Saguru, who has this silly idea in his head that I am KID, which is just ridiculous. And that is my childhood best friend, Nakamori Aoko, who was just going to leave anyway and take her annoying boyfriend with her because they wanted to go on a date today. They just... stalked me."

"You have been behaving strange this entire week," Hakuba narrowed his eyes at Kaito. "Barely any pranks. And all of today, you have been giddy in class, bouncing more than usual."

"I couldn't shake them off," Kaito heaved a sigh. "But they will leave now."

"Kaito-" Aoko paused, frowning concerned. "...Will you be fine?"

"I told you. I will absolutely be fine. Better than fine," Kaito smiled brightly at her.

"Okay," Aoko sighed and grabbed her back. "Come, Saguru-kun. We did have plans."

Hakuba glared at Kaito and then turned to look directly at Shinichi. "You are smarter than the average child your age. You should know better than to befriend criminals."

"But didn't Kaito-nii-chan just say that you are his best friend, Saguru-nii-san?" Shinichi asked, in his most childish voice possible, smiling innocently. "If Kaito-nii-chan is a criminal, why are you friends with him, you are a detective too, aren't you?"

He could feel the convulsions of Kaito's stifled laughter since the thief was still holding him. Hakuba looked nearly offended as he straightened up and took Aoko's hand, the couple leaving. Once the door closed behind them, Shinichi looked around to see that they were indeed alone otherwise. So he could drop the act and lower the darkest glare at Kaito.

"Are you kidding me?" Shinichi sounded his most exasperated. "Your best friends are one of the best detectives Japan has to offer and Nakamori-keibu's daughter? Do you want to go to jail?"

"Well, now you just sound like Hakuba-kun," Kaito wiggled his nose.

"You truly are an idiot," heaving a sigh, Shinichi rested his forehead against Kaito's chest.

Despite not seeing it, he could picture KID's grin on Kaito's face as the thief hugged him. "Did you just come here to insult me, or do you want to play a game of pool, tantei-kun?"

"If you put me down, we can play. Though I assume you cheat."

"I would never cheat. I have honor," Kaito gasped in mock-offense as he put Shinichi down.

He went ahead and set up a game for them, then brought a stool over for Shinichi. The loss of dignity. For a few minutes, the two simply played in silence. Enjoying each other's company.

"Do they know?" Shinichi asked while it was Kaito's turn. "Hakuba-kun seems to know."

"He figured it out. I keep denying it. We're friends, but I don't know about him actually not sending me to jail," Kaito chuckled as he played an impossible shot. "Aoko knows. I told her."

"She... does?" Shinichi's eyes widened in surprise. "That... must be hard for her."

"Oh, she was so mad at first. Put fi... finny things everywhere. Couldn't open a bag or door without one staring at me with those dead eyes," Kaito gave a full-body shudder. "When she cooled down a bit, I explained it. And she understands. She still worries about me though."

"She understands?" Shinichi narrowed his eyes at the thief as he set up his own shot. "Will I?"

For multiple beats, there was silence. Just the sound of the ball bouncing. Kaito was leaning against the table, his eyes on the ball, following its movement. His thoughts were clearly somewhere else.

"I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours," offered Kaito after a moment.

"What do you mean?" Shinichi looked up in confusion.

"I figured out that you're Kudou Shinichi. What I haven't figured out is how. So far, I'm guessing you got involved in some bad magic, spell gone wrong, but..." Kaito shrugged. "Tell me the truth."

"...Magic? Are you... What?" Shinichi blinked up at him, his confusion growing.

"Okay. So not magic. Mh. Let's talk about that when it's my turn, yes?"

All the more compelling for Shinichi to get to that truth. His fingers itched for it. He made his shot.

"I was at Tropical Land with Ran when I saw something suspicious. I was an idiot and followed the men dressed in all black and... missed something. Someone. I got knocked unconscious and then poisoned. But the poison failed. Instead of killing me, it deaged me. The men who tried to kill me are still out there, are part of a secret criminal organization, so Kudou Shinichi has to... be gone."

"Ah, so that's why you're keeping your name out of the press even when you make your little returns. Which I always wondered about too. When it's not me, who is impersonating you?"

"Most of the time, no one," Shinichi shrugged. "Haibara – the blonde little girl – she's like me. She is also the one who created the poison in the first place. She's working on an antidote, but has not figured out a permanent one yet. She has created a temporary one though. So on very rare occasions, I can turn back to my body. I hope she'll find a permanent cure at one point."

Kaito hummed, looking so very interested. His entire attention was on Shinichi. That kind of focus was oddly flustering for the detective. He tried distracting himself, looking around the bar.

"So, that's... my story. Now it's your turn. What do you mean magic?"

"Magic is real," offered Kaito with a shrug. "One of my friends – not the ones you just met – is an actual witch, in contact with Lucifer. Sounds crazy, but also... not more crazy than what you just told me about some shrinking poison. Magic genuinely sounds more believable."

"So... But your tricks are..." Shinichi frowned confused.

"I'm not a witch. I'm a magician. My tricks are tricks," Kaito offered a proud grin. "Though I perform them for the sake of magic. My father... was the original Kaitou KID, until he got killed by... curiously enough, a man dressed all in black. He was killed because they're looking for a magic gem that's supposed to grant someone immortality and they thought my dad got too close to finding it. When I... found out about this, I became Kaitou KID. To find my father's killers. To find the gem that he has died for, so I can destroy it."

It took only split seconds for the pieces to fall together in Shinichi's mind, before he started laughing uncontrollably. "Your father was Kuroba Toichi..."

"I... Yes. What... about that is so funny to you, tantei-kun?" Kaito seemed guarded.

It sobered Shinichi up and he cleared his throat. "I'm sorry. I'm not... That was insensitive. That wasn't why I was laughing. It's just that... My father was the one to give Kaitou KID his name. My father named your father. They'd... been friends. Kuroba Toichi was... a friend. He taught my mother magic, for one of her roles. There seems to be a strange irony to this, don't you think?"

Kaito blinked a couple of times before he chuckled darkly. "Yes, that does seem ironic."

"Your men in black, do you... have any information on them?"

"I... not much," admitted Kaito, frowning at him.

"Give me everything you have," requested Shinichi. "I want to cross-reference. It... seems unlikely that there are two secret killer organizations wearing all black within this very city."

"You think... the men who killed my father and the men who tried to kill you are... related?"

Shinichi shrugged, sitting down on his stool. "It's worth investigating. And I'm a detective. That's kind of what I do. If... you want my help, that is."

The way Kaito beamed at him made Shinichi's heart race. This wasn't good. Haibara was right. He was setting himself up for heart-break, because he was giving his heart to a thief. Willingly.

"What is it like to date a detective?" Kaito spun around on his chair.

"Kaito, no," Aoko frowned at him in concern.

"Heh, that's what I said to you when you told me you started dating Hakuba."

"Kaito, really," she sounded exasperated. "You told me that he's not 'what he seems to be', but he currently seems to be a grade schooler. He also seems very dangerous. To you as KID... and in general, honestly. He's a bit scary, you know."

"He won't be a nine years old forever," argued Kaito with a pout.

"You hope," countered Aoko, raising her eyebrows.

"We're friends," continued Kaito, not minding her. "I didn't think that would work. But we've been friends for months now. We meet, as Conan and Kaito, just... hanging out. Being friends. When the first heist of mine came up, I thought it wouldn't hold. But... I guess pretending to be a kid all the time has made him learn how to separate different lives. The tantei-kun chasing me and the one I hang out with are... different. But both good. If we can manage being thief and detective, while also being friends, maybe we could also manage being... boyfriends?"

"Kaito," she sighed again, shaking her head a little. "Don't get your hopes up while he is still a kid. Wait until he... I have no idea what you are waiting for to happen. But wait until after. And then try and see. Right now, you will just hurt yourself."

"Tantei-kun would never hurt me," argued Kaito.

"Not intentionally, perhaps," Aoko's eyes softened. "But if you love him and he doesn't love you back, that will hurt you and that would not be intentional on his part."

Kaito heaved a sigh and leaned back. She was right, of course. He knew that. He had that argument with himself multiple times at this point. Hearing it from someone else though... helped. Well, not really, because he was still in love with tantei-kun and thought about how amazing it would be to be with Shinichi. Holding hands, going on dates outside, kissing.

"He's helping me find the ones responsible for my dad's death," whispered Kaito.

"And I hope that he will. I hope you get them," Aoko reached out for his hand, squeezing it. "I... also do hope that it will work out for you, whatever... it is going to be. Dating a detective is fun. He does run off a lot to solve cases, but I knew that before we got together."

"It's so cute when he figures something out," Kaito smiled softly.

"Yes, it is," agreed Aoko amused. "You really do love him, don't you?"

"More than I thought possible," admitted Kaito embarrassed.

Figuring out the identity of the boss was easier with all information, all aspects of the organization. Hakuba joined their investigations, having chased after Spider for a long time. The jewel was what helped them in the end, to lure them out. With the FBI, with them all working together and with all the details, they finally, after two years, managed to take them out.

Kaitou KID lured them out. And while the FBI and police were busy slapping cuffs on wrists, KID swept Conan off his feet and off the top of the roof. Kaito's manic laughter rung in Shinichi's ear as the thief carried him off through the night-sky. Shinichi would never get used to this view.

"There are still statements to take and-"

"Oh, tantei-kun, lighten up. We won," Kaito was still laughing. "I want to celebrate."

"Drop me off at home first," requested Shinichi. "Not... the Mouris. The Kudou Mansion. I can hardly sneak past Ran covered in blood. Let me shower and get changed. I'll meet you at the Blue Parrot's... give me an hour, please? Kaito?"

The thief was openly pouting, which looked far cuter than it had any right to be. "Fi—ine."

Shinichi huffed amused as they reached the mansion and Kaito finally put him down. The thief took off after another pointed glare from Shinichi; he was going to come, he wasn't going to disappoint Kaito. He too felt like celebrating. But he had something a little different in mind for it.

"Haibara," Shinichi entered the professor's house.

Now came the biggest obstacle. But Shinichi had rehearsed his begging for the past two days. He would be his most pathetic self and convince Haibara, whatever it took. This was important.

"Here," Haibara sighed and... handed him a pill.

"What...? But... I didn't even..." Shinichi looked from the pill to Haibara.

"I'm not stupid, Kudou," the scientist gave him a look. "I've seen you around Kuroba-kun often enough over the past months. I've seen you today. You want to celebrate with your boyfriend, in a more appropriate body. I'll allow it, but this is going to be the last one, until I figure out the right cure. So think about it hard before you... And you swallowed it."

"I don't need to think about it," Shinichi laughed, sounding a little unhinged. "I want to tell Kaito that I'm in love with him and I want to kiss him when I do it, even if it's the only kiss I'll ever get from him. And I can't be Conan to do this. I can't."

Haibara sighed fondly and shook her head, as though he was a hopeless case. "Have fun."

Shinichi ran back to the Kudou mansion as fast as Conan's legs could carry him. He took a quick shower, as quick as the pain in his chest allowed him as the drug started taking effect. He did want to clean up and wear other clothes. Clothes that would fit his body.

Kaito was buzzing with excitement. His time as KID wasn't up yet, even without the organization, he still wanted to find and destroy the Pandora gem, but they had done it. He had personally overseen them putting Snake into a cop-car. They'd done it, together. Him and his tantei-kun.

Right now, Kaito was impatiently awaiting tantei-kun's arrival, because all the excitement in Kaito needed to be channeled into something. Whatever Shinichi wanted to do would be fine, but Kaito just wanted to be with his detective. Play pool, drink Jii's mocktails, eat a burger. Anything.

"I'm sorry I'm... late... took a little longer to adjust than anticipated..."

That voice. He knew it, even though he had never gotten to hear it in person. With a frown on his face did Kaito turn around when he could hear Jii behind the bar gasp in surprise. Kaito's eyes widened as he stared at Shinichi. At Shinichi's body. Not Conan. Fully grown, gorgeous Shinichi, wearing pants that hugged his long legs just right, a shirt with two open buttons.

"I... What... How..." Kaito blinked rapidly, stunned.

"I told you, sometimes I can turn back," Shinichi shrugged like it wasn't a big deal.

"But... why now? I mean, why not earlier? To rub it in with the men who tried to kill you?"

"Because... I don't care about them. I don't... want to waste this on them. They go to jail now, finally. They are no longer relevant. I care about you. I... want to be me, with you."

Kaito's confusion grew as Shinichi approached him. The closer he got, the more attractive he seemed. What a strange trick that was. With every step Shinichi took toward him, Kaito's urge to kiss him grew. So all he could do was stare in a hypnotized manner.

"I... don't know... what to say," admitted Kaito.

"Heh. Lost for words, eh?" Shinichi looked smug – and oh, he looked sexy when he was being smug. "I finally stole something from you. Your eloquence. What a nice change."

"Stop... playing with me, detective," warned Kaito with a frown. "What... does it mean...?"

Shinichi finally reached him, standing right in front of him. "I... need to tell you something. And I wanted to do it in my own voice, while being on eye-level with you."

"Okay," Kaito swallowed hard, his heart racing hard.

"I... am... in love with you," a blush adored Shinichi's cheeks. "I've been in love with you for over a year now, but... you were a thief, I was a detective. Now, you're... Kaito. And we... took the Black Organization out. Together. We work so well together. I love working with you. I... love you. And even if you don't feel the same way, I wanted to tell you and to... kiss you. At least once."

Kaito nodded slowly, though he didn't really understand what was happening. Shinichi was leaning in slowly, tilting his head. In theory, Kaito had every opportunity to back off. If his brain was still working. And if he even wanted to back out. Instead, he just waited. Until he could feel Shinichi's soft lips press against his and all of a sudden, Kaito's brain came back online. He reached out for his detective, wrapping one arm around Shinichi's waist, the other cradling the back of Shinichi's head. The detective gasped into their kiss and Kaito took advantage of the open mouth.

"...Was that... the one kiss, or did it mean more?" asked Shinichi unsure when they parted.

"I love you so much," gasped Kaito against Shinichi's lips, before kissing him again. "I am so in love with you, tantei-kun, you have no idea. I... I love you."

"Okay," Shinichi blinked at him in awe. "I... like hearing that."

"Awesome, because I want to tell you every single day," declared Kaito, laughing a little.

"This... won't last though," warned Shinichi with a frown. "The body. I'll turn back to Conan."

"But only temporarily. I have faith in Haibara-san. And I can wait. For you, I can wait."

Shinichi smiled faintly as he kissed Kaito once more. For now, he wanted to get the most out of this anti-dote while it would last. Kaito laughed into their kiss, pulling him closer.

Shinichi hated every single day that he was still Conan. He hated not getting to kiss Kaito again, but even he himself found the thought weird, while he was still Conan. They went to get ice-cream, watch movies, mostly they met at the Blue Parrot. In public, everyone thought it was so cute that Kaito was spending time with his little brother like that and Shinichi hated it.

"Relax, Kudou," instructed Haibara irritated.

"This is the fifth test this month. The last one had me blind for three days," commented Shinichi dryly. "I'm... tense, yes. I just want this to work, permanently."

The longest one had lasted for five days, which had his hopes up so high and then he had turned back. Closing his eyes, Shinichi tried to relax as Haibara administered the drug. The pain was as overwhelming as ever and it worked, as they all had so far. The question was, how long. They had a routine to this by now. Haibara would do some tests, making sure he was physically alright before releasing him into his boyfriend's care. At least these tests gave Shinichi some time in his own body, with Kaito. Even though he felt awful about the majority of that being just Kaito taking care of him because he was too weak or suffering from side-effects.

"Here. You can have him. If he develops a fever or passes out, call me," instructed Haibara.

"Hai, hai," Kaito smiled brightly as he slung one of Shinichi's arms around his shoulder.

Shinichi heavily leaned into his boyfriend, thankful for the support. In more ways than one. Kaito made sure to bring Shinichi to his bedroom, tuck him in and then pat his face down with a cold, wet cloth. He'd worked up a sweat during the transition.

"That's enough," grumbled Shinichi, swatting at him. "C'mere..."

Kaito smiled softly as he slipped into bed with him, snuggling up to him. "It's okay, Shin-chan. Just rest. I'll be right here, if anything happens to you, mh? Rest."

And it was so easy. When Kaito was there, Shinichi felt so safe... Protected. Probably due to the past two years, because Kaito had saved his life more often than Shinichi could count. Shinichi knew that Kaito would be there, would do everything in his powers to protect him. Slowly, his eyes closed and Shinichi drifted off to the steady beat of Kaito's heart.

Aoko had been skeptical at first. About a lot of things, most of all the whole shrinking thing. Then again, Akako was a witch, Kaito was chasing a magic gem. Why not shrunken teenagers? Still, she feared that Kaito would get hurt during all of this and that was the last thing she wanted.

Kaito seemed happy. Happier than she had ever seen him. Part of that, Aoko knew, was due to the fact that his father's murderer had finally been brought to justice. However, Aoko also knew that part of it was due to Edogawa Conan. Or Kudou Shinichi, as surreal as that sounded. Kaito was happy, at ease. He'd found someone who was his equal, who challenged him in a manner Kaito had never been challenged, who understood him in a way that not even Aoko could.

"I can't believe he makes us come here and then he's running late," complained Saguru irritated.

Smiling, Aoko reached for his hand, covering his wrist and thus his wrist. She tugged her boyfriend along and into the café. Her eyes scanned the crowd and she quickly spotted the greatest Kaitou KID fan – Suzuki Sonoko. The girl was very loud and stood out, Aoko had noticed her during many cases already, especially since her uncle instigated many of those heists. With her sat two others. Aoko knew that Shinichi was friends with Sonoko, so that was their table.

"Hello," Aoko smiled as she approached them. "I'm Nakamori Aoko, this is my boyfriend Hakuba Saguru, I believe we're all here for the same meeting, aren't we? Kudou Shinichi."

"Ah! You're his boyfriend's friends!" Ran brightened as she got up to hug Aoko. "Hello, it's so good to meet you. He's been talking so much about Kuroba-kun lately..."

The two had been officially dating for the past three months now and Shinichi semi-regularly returned, according to Kaito. This time, the boys both believed it to be permanent though, so they had arranged for a meeting with their friends. To officially introduce everyone.

"I'm sorry we're late. Shin-chan ran into a murder," Kaito sounded exhausted.

"Of course he did," Ran's voice was flat as she regarded her best friend.

And huh. Aoko had, of course, googled Kudou Shinichi. But the real deal was much prettier still. He looked a little embarrassed as he went to hug Ran and shake hands with the others, introducing himself to Aoko and Saguru. There was something guarded to Saguru's eyes. He knew something was off, something was going on here, but couldn't put it together yet.

"It is such a pleasure to finally meet you, Suzuki-chan, Mouri-chan," Kaito smiled charmingly.

He bowed deep and kissed their hands, handing both of them roses. Though he was more tense when he turned toward Sonoko's boyfriend, because Makoto was staring at him thoughtfully.

"I feel like we've met before," noted Makoto as he shook hands with Kaito.

"N... No, I just have one of those faces," assured Kaito awkwardly.

Aoko couldn't help but chuckle at that. The seven of them settled in and talked, mostly about Shinichi and Kaito and how those two had gotten together. Even though it wasn't the truth, Aoko knew that. But they couldn't possibly tell that story, especially not in public. No, their cover story was that they had met through their parents, many years ago. Because Shinichi's mother had been taught magic by Kaito's father. And they had recently, during Shinichi's long case reunited and fallen head over heels in love. Which, that part was true.

And oh, how true it was. Aoko had seen the love in Kaito's eyes and heard it in Kaito's voice when he spoke of Shinichi. Which was why she had warned her best friend not to get his heart broken. But this was the first time she was interacting with the both of them, seeing them together. And... she saw the very same kind of love in Shinichi's eyes, saw the soft little smiles Shinichi threw Kaito when Kaito wasn't looking. The detective loved Kaito as much as Kaito loved him.

"It was so nice to meet you," Ran smiled when they parted, hugging Aoko.

The two brunettes had exchanged numbers and Aoko definitely planned on texting her. It'd be nice to make some more friends, especially now that they weren't in high school anymore. Aoko was still struggling a little with all of it, the police academy, training, making new friends. Ran, Sonoko and Makoto headed back into one direction, waving at them as they left. Kaito and Shinichi however were walking with Aoko and Sonoko; Shinichi was going to Kaito's place.

"You have horrible taste in men, Kudou-kun," commented Saguru seriously.

He stood with one arm around Aoko's shoulders, holding onto the handle in the train with the other. Kaito and Shinichi stood next to them, holding hands. Shinichi raised one eyebrow, though the smirk on his lips was amused and nearly mischievous.

"You are absolutely right, Hakuba-kun, but you see..." Shinichi trailed off for only a moment. "He simply stole my heart, so there was nothing I could do..."

Oh, teasing Saguru about Kaitou KID. How very mean. Aoko smiled a little, leaning more into her boyfriend to kiss his cheek. He knew Kaito was KID, they all knew he knew, but since he took things very seriously, there was no out-right admitting to it, not in front of him.

"What can I say, it appears I might just be a thief after all," Kaito smirked.

He pressed a kiss onto Shinichi's temple, causing his boyfriend to huff out a laugh.

"I think," interrupted Aoko. "That you two are a great couple."

"I... Thank you, Nakamori-chan," Shinichi flushed brightly as he spoke.

He seemed to try and hide himself in Kaito's side, which was also pretty adorable. The two complimented each other with their differences and Aoko could see the trust between them.

/break\

"Kaito, no! Put me down! Bad thief, bad, bad thief!" exclaimed Shinichi loudly.

"Stop struggling, great detective, or I might accidentally drop you," argued Kaito.

"You shouldn't have picked me up to begin with!" Shinichi sounded distressed but stopped struggling, instead wrapping his arms very tightly around Kaito's neck. "I'm not Conan anymore!"

There had been a heist and the heist had been fun. Shinichi loved heists, even though he now knew who KID was. The thrill was all the same, the mystery of the actual magic used, the puzzle to solve. And then he cornered his boyfriend on the rooftop and gave his deductions, as always. Kaito loved listening to them, was eager to hear what Shinichi had managed to figure out. Only that after that, Kaito had just... grabbed him, picked him up bridal style and taken off the roof with his hang-glider.

"But you are my detective. I had to steal you," stated Kaito, somewhere between mischief and pout.

Heaving a sigh, Shinichi clung even tighter onto Kaito. The view was breathtaking. Everything today had been set out as an homage to the weekend in Singapore. It was their one year anniversary and it seemed that the both of them were in agreement that Singapore was what had gotten them together; without Singapore, Shinichi wouldn't have found out Kaito's identity like that, they wouldn't have worked together to take down their enemy, wouldn't have gotten together.

"But you know you can't keep it," noted Shinichi as they reached the Kudou Manor.

They landed elegantly in the library after entering through the open window. Once Kaito put Shinichi down, he produced the Fist of Blue Sapphire. It was in Japan now and Kaito had taken full advantage of that. He grinned as he turned the sapphire over a few times.

"Yes, yes. You can return it to Nakamori-keibu tomorrow, say you chased after me and got it back," Kaito sounded nearly dismissive. "But today, I wanted you and the gem. It should be with us on our anniversary, don't you agree? It brought us together, after all."

"You're so cheesy, thief," whispered Shinichi amused.

He grabbed Kaito by the jacket and pulled him down into a slow, deep kiss. Kaito wrapped his arms around his boyfriend, holding Shinichi close even after their kiss broke. Shinichi's hands rested against Kaito's chest, he was leaning heavily against the thief.

"I love you," whispered the detective after a moment. "Happy anniversary."

"I love you too," Kaito grinned happily, stealing a shorter kiss this time. "Did you have fun?"

"It was... a very nice surprise, yes," Shinichi smiled fondly as he leaned his head against Kaito. "It was very thoughtful of you. But also cheesy, very cheesy."

"You know I'm a romantic," Kaito smirked a little.

"I know. And I do love that about you," admitted Shinichi after a moment. "Now come, thief."

He took Kaito's hand and pulled him along upstairs. They lived to equal parts in each other's space by now. Be that both of them staying at the Kudou Manor, or both of them staying at Kaito's place. Either way, they stayed there together. Though Shinichi wasn't leading Kaito to their bedroom. Instead, they were heading to one of the countless empty guest-rooms.

"...Mh. So I wasn't the only one feeling nostalgic and cheesy, mh?" Kaito teased.

"It's the room where we first shared a bed," Shinichi shrugged unapologetically.

The room was made up to look exactly like their hotel room in Singapore. Even the bed. Shinichi had done his research, looked up the hotel and rooms for reference and with the help of his friends, he had been renovating the room secretly over the past few months whenever Kaito wasn't there.

"You were much easier to cuddle back then," commented Kaito, though there was a playful note to his voice. "Now, when you curl together on my chest, I feel like suffocating."

Shinichi rolled his eyes and pulled Kaito along onto the bed, kissing him once more. Maybe Shinichi was also a bit of a romantic, at least when it came to Kaito.

~*~ The End ~*~

Author's note: Amidst my rewatch, it really stood out for me that Jii said in the MK anime that "a professor" makes all of KID's gadgets. So I thought it might be fun if the professor saw the suitcase that he most likely built and slipped up!

Another thing is KID's injury. When he got shot and Conan cornered him on the rooftop and approaches KID. I REALLY wanted him to help out with the bandages, especially since the injury was placed so awkwardly.

Sooo, I combined both those thoughts and had a lil fun with that! I hope you had fun too, if so, feel free to leave a comment! ;)
