Chapter 32:

The Two Brothers

Location: Mistralton City

I flung open the Pokémon Center doors and had a good whiff of the Mistralton air. "What a great day for my next Gym battle!"

I ran past all the buildings, as few as there were. Like I said, most of Mistralton City is the airport. Not many people want to live there due to consistent plane noises and petrol fumes.

The Gym itself is a reconverted hangar, which is a warehouse where they keep planes. I mean they have quite a lot, so might as well make better use of one of the older ones.

Waiting outside the hangar, however, was N.

"I've been watching the battles," he said. "It… actually hurts to see them fight like this."

He was starting to sound more and more like those tyrants that he led.

"N, what is your goal here?"

"I want to see your Pokémon," he said, evading my question.

Deciding that was the only way I was going to get answers, I sent out Gothita. N knelt down to its level (quite a bit considering Gothita isn't exactly big).

"Hmm, okay. So, Hilbert was born in Nuvema Town and was given a Pokédex. And you trust this Trainer, despite being caught shortly after Hilbert won his fourth Badge. Interesting."

Gothita walked back over and floated up. We both hi-fived. "See? I'm friends with my Pokémon to. Gothita loved battling!"

"Gothita, do you agree?" N asked. Gothita nodded. Then, Gothita started glowing.

"Gothita, is this what I think?!" I yelled. Gothita got bigger and bigger, then revealed itself to be a Pokémon with more of a skirt pattern and two large black balls in its hair that looked like braids.

"See? We've worked hard and grown closer and stronger, leading to Gothita evolving just now! Okay, you've proven your point Gothorita. Let's get you back."

I put my bag down. I forgot to zip it up, so it was partially open.

"What's that?" N asked. He was pointing to 'The Legendary Pokémon of Unova' book I got a long time ago. Honestly, I completely forgot I had it outside of the times when I would rummage through my bag.

"This?" I asked, taking the book out. "It was a present from Lenora, the Nacrene City Gym Leader." Realizing I hadn't had a proper look through, I opened the book on a random page. It showed the two large Pokémon of Unova. The Vast White Reshiram and the Deep Black Zekrom.

"I want to awaken one of them," N said. "That's what Team Plasma is also working on."

The seriousness of this goal came crashing down on me. What a ball N had dropped. "I won't let you!" I shouted. "Where do you plan on finding them?"

N put his hands out, so I gave him the book. I stood silently as he flicked through the pages. He didn't even need to look at the index to know which page to go to. He opened it up to show two stones. One was white and one was black. The latter looked awfully familiar.

"What's wrong?" N asked.

Not wanting to drive his suspicion, I said everything was alright and asked for the book back politely. N gave it to me, and I put it back in my Bag.

"Those stones hold the Legendary Pokémon, once used by two feuding heroes. I will work on awakening Reshiram. I bid you adieu. Oh, the Gym Leader? She's unavailable."

I would complain, but I hadn't had this problem throughout my journey, so I didn't. I was still a bit bummed though.

"I am off to Icirrus City. Will I meet you there? Who knows?"

With that, he walked off.

I was trying to comprehend what happened. Anyway, my plan of taking on the Gym Leader was thrown out the window, so I decided to head back to the Pokémon Center and take the day off.

I walked by the communication tower and back into the small settlement. Waiting for me was Professor Juniper and two other people. One was a woman wearing a blue outfit that showed her stomach. She had very short shorts and red hair that came down at two sides.

"Hi!" she said. "My name is Skyla! I was told to meet you."

I said my hellos, then asked who the other man was.

"Well, I thought you would never ask Hilbert! Yes, I know your name. My name is Cedric Juniper. I happen to be a researcher like my daughter. Isn't that right Aurea?" He turned to Professor Juniper as he said this.

"Wait, Cedric's your father?!" I asked.

Professor Juniper nodded. "He researchers Pokémon biology and distribution."

"Yes dear, it's fascinating. Unova is interesting in that it is the only Pokdex aside from Kanto to be made up entirely of Pokémon first discovered in this region. I want to find out why that is. Do you have any reason for that Skyla?"

Skyla stepped back, embarrassed. "Cedric, you think that regions like Kanto and Sinnoh are just a Rock Throw away, but they aren't. It takes a couple hours to fly to other regions, and I don't have time to be a pilot, research the distribution of certain species and run the Gym at the same time!"

"You're the Gym Leader!" I said. "I heard that you're a bit busy today, is that true?"

"Sadly yes," she responded. "I've just come back from delivering some goods to Johto, and I've also received news that there is an injured Pokémon on top of Celestial Tower." Skyla pointed in the distance to a large-stone tower which had its head in the clouds. "It's a place where people lay their departed Pokémon to rest. I'll need to check up on it, and that means leaving today. Is it alright if you wait a day or two?"

I mentioned it was fine. But I wanted to get some extra training in. "I'll go tomorrow. I need to get stronger after all!"

Skyla smiled. "That's more than fine! I should warn you; Celestial Tower is full of Psychic and Ghost Types. Might be best to choose your Pokémon before you go. It's a day's trek as well, so maybe bring a Pokémon with Fly on you to zoom back to Mistralton quickly once you've done."

It was clear that we were delaying Skyla, so we let her go.

"Sorry," the Professor said. "But part of being a Gym Leader means taking the call to duty when needed."

I deciding that now would be the perfect opportunity to show them what Lenora gave me.

"There is something I want to show you though," I said.

Location: Mistralton City Pokémon Center

In my room, I took out the book. I flicked through the pages slowly (remember, I had barely read it) and got to the picture with the Light and Dark Stone.

"Cedric, do you know about these?" I asked.

"My goodness, yes I do! These are the stones that Reshiram and Zekrom became!"

"Really?" I asked. "There must be more information in this book." One page later, I found it.

"Many, many years ago, there were two brothers. Their partner was a singular dragon of black and white, and together, they created the Unova region. Despite their teamwork, the brothers sought different views. The older brother sought truth and the younger sought ideals. The two brothers fought, to the point where the dragon that they once tamed became two separate beings. The Fire Type Reshiram and the Electric Type Zekrom. Despite the rivalry, neither was stronger than the other, so the brothers put aside their differences. However, the sons of the heroes also sought truth and ideas respectively, and the rivalry resumed. There was still no difference in power, and the Unova region that their fathers created was destroyed. Exhausted, Reshiram and Zekrom turned into the Light Stone and Dark Stone respectively and went into a deep slumber to heal their wounds."

"Fascinating," I said. "Hold on. I need to make a call."

I got up my C-Gear and called up Hawes.

"Hilbert? How are you?"

"Fine. Listen, you know that stone you found at the Desert Resort? Have you got round to looking at it yet?"

"It was taken in two days after you left Nacrene City. We should be getting it back soon. Why did you ask?"

"It's fine," I said. "It might not be anything. It could just be a pretty stone."

I killed the call.

"Guys," I said. "I feel that the Legendary Pokémon may be starting to stir."

Cedric Juniper really has a passion for history. Whilst I wanted to battle Skyla today, she had a reason for delaying it. I have a reason for going to Celestial Tower to. N though, what is up with him? He might be a bigger threat than I remember…
