Chapter 53:
Looker's Task
Location: Nuvema Town
It had been two weeks since the battle between Reshiram and Zekrom, and of course, I needed a break. Well, by break yes, I had done some training. My team had gone up in some levels and some new moves had been taught, though I will get to which ones soon.
With two weeks passed though, I decided it was time to get back down to business and go on a new adventure.
I went downstairs to see Mum and… Mum?
"What's going on?" I asked. "Did you learn Double Team?"
"What do you mean?" Mum's doppelganger asked. She sounded like a man poorly imitating her. "Oh, wait. I'm still in disguise apologies." Suddenly, the clone tore of the clothes and apparent wig to reveal a man with black hair and a brown coat.
"Wait…" I said, trying to believe my eyes. "Are you?"
"Indeed, I am!" he said. "Nice to meet you Mr. Whittaker. My name is Looker of the international Police, and yes! I am indeed the same Looker that helped take down Team Galactic five years ago!"
"He's so handsome!" Mum said, hearts in her eyes. It was a bit weird. After Dad passed away, Mum said that she couldn't get herself to date any other men. Eh, times change. I was too young to understand dating, and a part of me still is.
"Anyway, enough introductions. Hilbert, I applaud you on your efforts to take down Team Plasma. But despite your efforts, I can confirm that they are still at large. Unfortunately, the Sages that weren't Ghetsis, who is now in custody, got away. Sightings have been reported all over Unova. If you're not doing anything, could you assist me in trying to find them?"
Honestly, this was great timing. As soon as I decided to start up things again, we have a case.
"Count me in!" I said. "Where shall I start?"
"The Lab," Looker told me. "Professor Juniper wants to see you."
Doing as Looker said, I went over to the Lab. In there of course was Professor Juniper. It felt like day one of my journey all over again. Except this time, I was much stronger.
"Hilbert, I must congratulate you!" she said.
What that why? Professor Juniper had been thanking me everyday since I beat N. Is that why she wanted me?
"Thank you for your work on the Pokédex! You've seen almost every Pokémon in the Unova region!"
I got it out. She was right; there was only one space that hadn't been filled. My best guess was that it was Larvesta's mother, if Larvesta had an evolution of course.
"I was going to wait till you had seen all the non-legendary Pokémon that this wonderful place has to offer, but because of your efforts, I would like to do something. May you please hand me your Pokédex."
I did so without hesitation. I was worried that she would say I didn't need it anymore because I'm too strong, despite the fact that I wasn't Champion yet. Instead, she plugged a wire into the Pokédex from a computer. She started typing some stuff onto it. After a little bit, she unplugged the Dex.
"Da da da dah! Your Pokédex has been upgraded to include the National Dex! Now you can find out information about Pokémon from not only Unova. You can read up on species from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh!"
"Thanks!" I said in amazement. I had only seen Pokémon in Unova in person, and I was excited to find out what other regions had to offer. Unova was just the beginning. "Where do I begin?"
"The Dreamyard!" she stated.
I was confused. I had already been there. "Why?" I asked.
"Two reasons. One, there was an area not accessible to you over there. Secondly, because I may had heard that a Sage is down there. Don't worry, I'm working with Looker to."
Realizing this, I told her I would be going to the Dreamyard ASAP. I could just run over there; I was so strong that I didn't need to take any breaks. I could make it over there by this afternoon. It was a far cry from two days.
"I'll come with," she said. "My Watchog will use Cut on that tree for you."
With that, we made a move.
Location: Striaton City
Before I went to the Dreamyard, I stocked up on Hyper Potions again. Along the way, the Professor told me that there were some strong Pokémon down there. No Legendries or anything, but certainly some tough ones from other regions.
"Ready to go?" Juniper asked.
"Yeah!" I said.
Location: Dreamyard
"Watchog, Cut!" Professor Juniper's Watchog made good work of the conveniently planted tree in the way. "Call me when you're finished. I'm going to have a catch up with Fennel."
"Got it," I said. "Whoever is down there, I will show them who's boss."
The Professor shook her head. "Actually, Looker is known to show up randomly and arrest someone on the spot. You don't need to worry yourself about battling them. I should stop interrupting you. The basement is easily found."
I walked off and found a set of stairs leading downwards. So of course, I went down.
The basement of the Dreamyard was a bit like Victini's lighthouse; mossy, rusty and a remnant of humans once being here on the regular. Unlike the lighthouse bedroom though, every piece of furniture was in shambles. Books were all over the place, some under fallen bookshelves. There were people here though, mainly Scientists and Psychics.
"One of the Sages must be here," I said. As I walked around looking for clues, I unknowingly walked in front of the eyes of a Scientist.
"Hey! Hero or no hero, this place might have dream radiation!"
Hilbert Vs. Scientist Markus
"Okay Excadrill, you're up!" I shouted.
"Go Drowzee!" Markus said, sending out a yellow Pokémon with a snouted nose.
Drowzee (スリープ)
096 (National)
Psychic Type
Hypnosis Pokémon
3'03" (1 m)
71.4 lbs (32.4 kg)
It can tell what people are dreaming by sniffing with its big nose. It loves fun dreams.
"Start with X-Scissor!" I yelled as Excadrill swiped Drowzee in an X formation.
"Psychic!" Drowzee lifted up Excadrill with its mind, then threw it on the ground. But because Excadrill was a Steel Type, it wasn't effective at all.
"One more X-Scissor!" Excadrill swiped Drowzee one last time, dealing the final blow.
"Well, looks like you're free of dream radiation! Drowzee, let's keep clearing it."
I continued to make my way through the old factory. There were still some parts that were glowing pink from this radiation that was apparently being talked about. I only prayed it was harmless.
Just then, a Psychic appeared from round the corner.
"Bet you didn't predict that!"
Hilbert Vs. Psychic Future
"Okay Scrafty, go!" I yelled.
"I choose Xatu!" Future sent out a green Pokémon with red and white wings and a yellow beak.
Xatu (ネイチィオ)
178 (National)
Psychic/Flying Type
Mystic Pokémon
4'11" (1.5 m)
33.1 lbs (15 kg)
This odd Pokémon can see both the past and the future. It eyes the sun's movement all day.
Natu -Lv 25- Xatu
"Okay Scrafty, start with Crunch!" Scrafty chomped down on Xatu for Super Effective damage.
"Ominous Wind!" Xatu started flapping its wings, shooting a dark gale at Scrafty. However, being a Ghost Type move, it wasn't very effective.
"Okay Scrafty. Rock Climb!" Scrafty climbed the walls of the building, then jumped off and attacked Xatu. It didn't quite knock out Xatu but did confuse it. The next turn, it hurt itself in the confusion. "One more!" Scrafty used another Rock Climb, taking out Xatu.
"Okay then. Next I choose Banette!" Banette was a grey Pokémon with a wide grin and small-yellow tail.
Banette (ジュペッタ)
354 (National)
Ghost Type
Marionette Pokémon
3'07" (1.1 m)
27.6 lbs (12.5 kg)
A doll that became a Pokémon over its grudge from being junked. It seeks the child that disowned it.
Shuppet -Lv 37- Banette
"Scrafty, give it a dose of Crunch!" Scrafty chomped down on Banette for lots of damage.
"Shadow Ball back!" Banette fired a black orb at Scrafty. It wasn't very effective either.
"One more Crunch!" Scrafty bit down on Banette one last time, giving me the win.
"I predicted I'd lose to. Why even bother?"
After that victory, I found the stairs up out of the basement. Guessing that would be a good way of progress, I went up.
I was back out in the fresh air; something that I needed after being in that dusty basement for an hour. Being outside gave me a time to think about what happened; Team Plasma coming back? Considering that only half the Grunts were arrested, it wasn't impossible.
"They always find a way," I thought.
This part of the Dreamyard also had Pokémon I hadn't seen before, including a red Pokémon with scythes and a black moustache.
Kricketune (コロトック)
402 (National)
Bug Type
Cricket Pokémon
3'03" (1 m)
56.2 lbs (25.5 kg)
There is a village that hosts a contest based on the amazingly variable cries of this Pokémon.
Kricketot -Lv 10- Kricketune
Kricketune gave me a "Delelelelelelele whooooooooooooop" before scuttling off.
"Hey, come back here!" I said.
As Kricketune ran round the corner, something jumped out at me.
"Boo!" he said. I fell back in shock.
It was Gorm of the Seven Sages.
"You!" I said. "I've been searching for you!"
"Did I surprise you? Well, you certainly surprised me by almost taking down Team Plasma."
"If you're planning on using dreams again, it won't work! Why listen to Ghetsis anyway?"
He ignored me. "Didn't I surprise you? People and Pokémon leave themselves open, which gives me an opportunity to attack. I tell you what did surprise me; the strength of the Gym Leaders. If just one was present, they would have been toast. But they were all present, leaving us smothered. Our plan was to surprise people with the castle and the Legendary, leading to our ambitions being filled. That's enough, take this." He handed me a TM. "It contains Swords Dance, in case you ever want to teach it to Excadrill again."
"That's enough!" Looker jumped over the stone broken wall and tackled Gorm to the ground. "In the name of the National Police, you are under arrest Gorm!"
"Guess he took you by surprise!" I said.
Gorm was now in cuffs; he only got up when Looker took him by the arm. "Thanks for breaking him out of his hiding spot. The police should be here shortly. Hey, in honour of our victory, what do you say we have dinner at the Gym?"
That sounded like a plan. I hadn't seen the Gym Leaders in a while.
"You know," Gorm said. "Musharna likes to come here every Friday night. If I could wait around a bit longer-"
"No!" Looker said. "You're coming with us. See you in two hours Hilbert. Good job! I'll pay, don't worry!"
I called up the Professor and told her to get the tree ready. Well, get rid of it. (Those trees grow back weirdly fast).
Location: Striaton Gym
I was surprised at how easily Looker was at getting a table. It can't have been VIP treatment because we had the least fancy type of dinner imaginable. But there was surprisingly a free one. I had a veggie meal which included some Tomato Berry soup. It burned my tongue.
"Please be careful," Cress said, handing me some water. "I must also apologise, on the behalf of Cilan and Chilli to. We heard about the Gym Leader raid at the Pokémon League, but we didn't get Bianca's message in time. We were too busy serving customers who were trying to keep calm from the news. Also, I must say again; please be careful with the soup. It's boiling."
"So," I asked after gulping down like three glasses of water to help get my tongue back to room temperature. "Where are the other five?"
Looker got out a piece of paper. "Well, there should be one in the Relic Castle. And there is one in the east of Unova."
"I haven't been there," I said. "Should I after Relic Castle?"
"You could!" Looker said. "From Nimbasa City, it's just across the Marvelous Bridge. The Pokémon found there are also not often found in other parts of Unova. And best of all, one of the settlements is a resort town!"
"Sign me up!" I said.
So, a new adventure starts. I need to find the rest of the Sages, and explore a part of Unova I've never even touched!
