Chapter 56:

East we Forget

Location: Route 16

At the end of the Route that included the Lostlorn Forest was the entrance to Marvelous Bridge. It was a blue gateway to the biggest bridge in the Unova region, as well as the highest. It's also the gateway to the east Unova, the next step of my journey.

"On towards a new adventure!" I yelled.

Location: Marvelous Bridge

The long blue bridge stretched high up above the shiny river, where the sunlight reflected off the surface. The Marvelous Bridge is the most advanced bridge in Unova. It can withstand anything. The fastest of winds and the strongest of earthquakes have no effect on it.

I walked along. I knew that this bridge wasn't exactly a fast crossing. Above me, the Swanna flew. I also saw a woman doing some tricks with a Patrat; one of them didn't seem too sure about doing it though.

At the halfway point, I found an old man and a woman. The woman looked a bit pale. In fact, she didn't seem all there at all aside from her long blonde hair. Her clothes looked like they were from the early century.

"You know," said the old man. "I've tried talking to her. I can't seem to get anything out though."

I was concerned, so I tapped the girl on the shoulder. I was shocked when my hand went straight through. "What's going on?" I asked, my hair on end. Slowly but surely, the girl faded into thin air.

"What?" the Man said. "Wait, could that be? Her?"

I needed to know what he meant by that, so I asked if I could meet him at the end of the bridge to tell me more.

"Gladly," he said. "Route 15 is where we will meet. It will provide some context to what I'm about to tell you."

Location: Route 15

Route 15 was a rocky path enveloped in a mist. It wasn't easy to see, but I could somewhat make out a laboratory. The Old Man was waiting for me by a red trailer, similar to the one that Alder damaged accidentally back on Route 5.

"My name is Ron," the man said. "I'm a researcher that is trying to learn more about this area, and I may have found an interesting discovery." He went into his trailer and came back with a photo. It was off a girl. I got a better look. The photo was in black and white and she was in the distance, but I could somewhat make it out to be…

"The girl on the Bridge?!" I said. "But, how? This photo looks so old timey. She can't possibly be alive unless someone somehow has an old camera like this."

"Not for a long time," Ron told me. "One day, this girl mysteriously died in her sleep. We don't know what happened as she was completely healthy, but this was her favourite hangout spot before the bridge was even built. Marvelous Bridge is partially built in her memory, which I am all for."

I had heard stories of ghosts before. I am admittedly not a believer of the paranormal (well, okay I believe in Ghost Types. Why do you think I have a Chandelure?), but I couldn't think of any other reason other than someone playing some very expensive projector prank for the internet.

"Thanks for telling me. If anything happens, I'll let you know," I said.

Ronald smiled. "Thank you, Hero Hilbert. I suppose you want to see what else Unova has to offer don't you!"

I nodded and walked into the fog.

I knew there were two options. Either I go up and past the lab, or I go down the bottom through the tall grass. I decided to take the bottom path as I wanted to see more Pokémon!

I walked down the steps and into the tall grass. I was halfway through before I came across a Pokémon. It was a brown Pokémon with feathers that had a long beak. It was flapping its wings to fly.

Fearow (オニドリル)

022 (National)

Normal/Flying Type

Beak Pokémon

3'11" (1.2 m)

83.8 lbs (38 kg)

It has the stamina to fly all day on its broad wings. It fights by using its sharp beak.

Spearow -Lv 20- Fearow

"Zekrom, I choose you!" I shouted. Fearow span beak first into Zekrom with its Drill Peck attack. "Okay Zekrom, Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom covered itself in a ball of electricity and charged into Fearow, shocking the Flying Type to a knockout.

"Not bad!" I told Zekrom. "Okay, let's keep this up!"

Remember I said that in the mist you couldn't see much? Well, I didn't see the Trainer that somehow spotted me. It was a Battle Girl.

"Training in this density? That's daring! I'm doing it purely for training!"

Hilbert Vs. Battle Girl Suzie

"Zekrom, go!" I shouted.

"Come out Medicham!" Suzie replied, sending out a pink Pokémon with large legs.

Medicham (チャーレム)

308 (National)

Fighting/Psychic Type

Meditate Pokémon

4'03" (1.3 m)

69.4 lbs (31.5 kg)

It gains the ability to see the aura of its opponents by honing its mind through starvation.

Meditite -Lv 37- Medicham

"Zekrom, start with Dragon Claw!" Zekrom swiped Medicham, and it was thrown back.

"Okay Medicham, use Ice Punch!" Medicham's fist went white, then it punched Zekrom in the stomach for Super Effective damage.

"Come back with Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged into Medicham covered in electricity, and it barely survived.

"Now use High Jump Kick!" Medicham jumped forward at Zekrom. But since this was a misty condition, Medicham couldn't quite see. It kept going and crashed.

"You did well against that thing Medicham. Okay Hitmontop, go!" Hitmontop was quite peculiar. It was a brown Pokémon that was balancing from a point on its head.

Hitmontop (カポエラー)

237 (National)

Fighting Type

Handstand Pokémon

4'07" (1.4 m)

105.8 lbs (48 kg)

It fights will spinning like a top. The centrifugal force boosts it destructive power by ten.

Tyrogue (B) -Lv 20 with Attack and Defense equal- Hitmontop

"Nice one Zekrom. Okay Chandelure, go!" I replied.

"Hitmontop, Stone Edge!" Hitmontop fired multiple sharp stones at Chandelure. It was a Critical Hit and almost knocked it out in one.

"Chandelure, Shadow Ball!" Chandelure fired the Ghost Type move at Hitmontop. I decided enough was enough. "Come back Chandelure!"

"Pursuit!" Before I could return it, Hitmontop attacked Chandelure for one final blow, knocking it out. Sneaky move I will say.

"Okay Gothitelle, go!" I shouted, as my Psychic Type came out.

"Pursuit again!" Hitmontop attacked Gothitelle with a kick.

"Psychic!" Gothitelle blasted Hitmontop with Psychic energy. It flew back with so much force that when it hit the ground, it was finished.

"I forgot how risky mist training is," Suzie said.

There was one last big patch of grass that I needed to go through, so I did. Before I reached the stairs that lead out the root though, I came across another Pokémon. It was brown with a cream pouch that had a small purple baby of itself in it.

Kangaskhan (ガルーラ)

115 (National)

Normal Type

Parent Pokémon

7'03" (2.2 m)

176.4 lbs (80 kg)

It raises its offspring in its belly pouch. It lets the baby out to play only when it feels safe.

Kangaskhan has no known evolutions.

"Chandelure, I choose you!" I shouted. Kangskhan started getting angry. Then, it attacked Chandelure for a lot of damage. "My goodness, that was Outrage! It's a strong Dragon Type move! But we can take it down. Chandelure, Flame Burst!" Chandelure fired a flame at Kangaskhan which did a bit. Kangaskhan attacked Chandelure one more time, taking it down. After this though, Kangaskhan became confused. "Now is my chance. Scrafty, finish with Brick Break!" Scrafty chopped Kangaskhan. It was the final move as it knocked out Kangaskhan.

After that, I reached the exit to Route 15. It was of course through the gate, so I went in.

Location: Route 15 Gate

Interestingly, this gate had two exits.

"What's up with this?" I asked the woman at the desk.

"One leads to the White Forest. The other to the Black City. The Black City is where you need to go if you want to continue onwards to Route 14."

I looked at the clock on the LED board; it was 19:00. "Well, it's getting late. I'll check out the White Forest tonight and book into a Pokémon Center."

"Just be careful," the woman warned. I had no idea what she was talking about.

Location: White Forest

Many trees were sprouted up all over the place as I saw small patches of grass around me.

"What an interesting place," I said. "It's nothing like Pinwheel or Lostlorn. I wonder what Pokémon you can find!"

I ran into the grass and found a small blue Pokémon with a lilypad on its back.

Lotad (ハスボー)

270 (National)

Water/Grass Type

Water Weed Pokémon

1'08" (0.5 m)

5.7 lbs (2.6 kg)

It looks like an aquatic plant and serves as a ferry to Pokémon that can't swim.

Being only Lv.5, I decided to leave it alone.

"Well, I suppose I should get some sleep," I said. The Pokémon Center was easy to find, so I booked a room.

Finally in Eastern Unova! Amazing how many Pokémon here are not found in other parts of Unova. I do have a few questions. Who was that girl? And what is going on with this Forest? I'll stay here tomorrow and find out.
