Chapter 58:

Let it Shrine

Location: Route 14

Having left the chaos of White Forest and Black City, I made my way north to the foggy Route 14. I could barely see two inches in front of my nose. Which didn't help because Route 14 was a large cliff with a river so I was worried I was going to fall in, which was especially daunting considering the fact that I could hear the gushing of a waterfall. I was so thankful Samurott could learn Surf.

Now since I couldn't see, I unknowingly walked into some tall grass. Of course, I came across a Pokémon. It was a large brown Pokémon with green leaflike wings and bananas growing on its neck.

Tropius (トロピウス)

357 (National)

Grass/Flying Type

Fruit Pokémon

6'07" (2 m)

220.5 lbs (100 kg)

Delicious fruits grew around its neck because it always ate the same kind of fruit.

Tropius has no known evolutions.

"I choose Excadrill!" I yelled. "Rock Slide!" Excadrill made rocks fall from above onto Tropius for Super Effective damage. Tropius fired back with multicoloured leaves. "That's Magical Leaf! Okay Excadrill, finish with X-Scissor!" Excadrill swiped Tropius in an X formation, finishing it off.

I knew I needed to watch where I stepped, but it was hard concentrating on the fog, my footsteps and the message I got from Officer Jenny the day before. A Sage had got away, and that could mean anything. Thankfully, Looker wasn't reprimanded. Everyone was disappointed with him, sure. But he rarely made mistakes. When he does though, he doesn't forget them.

Since I couldn't see much, I barely noticed the Black Belt that somehow saw me.

"Hey. There's something I want to tell you after this battle."

Hilbert Vs. Black Belt Jay

"I choose Samurott!" I shouted.

"Go Primeape," Jay replied. He sent out a furry-round Pokémon with boxer-like fists. It was hopping angrily on the spot.

Primeape (オコリザル)

057 (National)

Fighting Type

Pig Monkey Pokémon

3'03" (1 m)

70.5 lbs (32 kg)

It grows angry if you see its eyes and gets angrier if you run. If you beat it, it gets even madder.

Mankey -Lv 28- Primeape

"Close Combat Primeape!" Primeape started furiously punching Samurott lots of times, almost knocking it out in a single blow.

"You alright?" I asked Samurott. Just then, Samurott opened its mouth. I noticed it gathering energy inside it. "Samurott, could you be learning what I think it is? Well, if you are, let's give it a go. Samurott, use Hydro Pump!" Samurott fired a massive jet of water at Primeape. Because Close Combat also lowers Defense and Sp. Defense of the user, Primeape was down in one.

"Primeape!" Jay shouted

"Samurott that was amazing!" I said. "But you need a rest. Come back." I returned Samurott to its ball.

"Scrafty, go!" Jay said, sending out his own Scrafty.

"Scrafty, come out!" I replied. "Hi Jump Kick!" My Scrafty kicked Jay's Scrafty for lots of damage.

"Come back with Rock Climb!" Jay's Scrafty ran along rocky walls, then attacked my Scrafty.

"Use Brick Break!" My Scrafty chopped Jay's Scrafty, finishing it.

"Poliwrath, go!" Jay's final Pokémon was a blue-muscly Pokémon with a white belly that had a black spiral pattern on it.

Poliwrath (ニョロボン)

062 (National)

Water/Fighting Type

Tadpole Pokémon

4'03" (1.3 m)

199 lbs (54 kg)

With its extremely tough muscles, it can keep swimming the Pacific Ocean without resting.

Poliwag -Lv 25- Poliwhirl -Water Stone- Poliwrath

I recalled Scrafty for Zekrom. "Use Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged into Poliwrath covered in a blue ball of electricity for Super Effective damage.

"Come back with Submission!" Poliwrath grabbed Zekrom and, despite the size and weight, slammed both Pokémon into the ground. This did damage to Zekrom, but also to Poliwrath who took the recoil damage and fainted.

"I forgot the power of Zekrom," said Jay.

"So, what do you want to show me?" I asked.

Jay pointed up to a waterfall that could faintly be seen. "It's at the top of there. It's called the Abundant Shrine."

Now whilst I was always up to see a shrine, I wasn't too sure if I could access it. To get up, I would need to use Waterfall. I didn't even have the HM for it.

"No sweat. Poliwrath knows it. How about we make a temporary trade? Poliwrath for say, Excadrill. I saw you battle that Tropius with it on a walk."

I wasn't sure. At all. Why would he randomly want me to check out some Shrine? That's when he came a bit closer to me and whispered something in my ear.

"Between you and me, one of those Team Plasma guys are up there."

That made me make the deal. We traded both Pokémon quickly. I trusted Jay, so I knew I was going to get Excadrill back.

"See yah in a bit," I told him.

I got down to a wooden bridge with the river running under it. I sent out Samurott and I started Surfing. I tell ya; using Surf to cross the water never got old.

When I got to the waterfall, I sent out Poliwrath. "Use Waterfall!" I shouted. Then, I hopped onto Poliwrath's back and it swam up the waterfall.

Before I got to a plot of land, a Pokémon jumped out the water. It was orange and had what looked like a big yellow best around itself.

Floatzel (フローゼル)

419 (National)

Water Type

Sea Weasel Pokémon

3'07" (1.1 m)

73.9 lbs (33.5 kg)

It is a common sight around fishing ports. It is known to rescue people and carry off prey.

Buizel -Lv 26- Floatzel

"I choose Zekrom!" I yelled. Floatzel lunged forward with Aqua Jet, which Zekrom barely felt. "Use Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged into Floatzel covered in sparks and knocked it out.

"Congratulations," came a voice from the small plot of land. I followed the voice and sure enough, Jay was right. It was a Sage. Specifically, Giallo. I quickly contacted Looker.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"I knew you would be coming. I wanted to see you and Zekrom battle, like you did with that Floatzel. It seems that you two have a mutual understanding. You two seem to understand each other, like our Lord N- I'm sorry. I mean N, understood all Pokémon. Well, as the saying goes, if somewhere in this world there is someone who understands you, if feels like that right person is beside you, even if you're as far apart as the end of the land and the top of the sky."

Suddenly, from underwater, Looker popped up on his own Floatzel.

"End of the line Giallo!" he said. "You're coming with me!"

"So be it," he said. Giallo gave me a TM. "This is for Bulk Up. Use it well."

Looker cuffed him. I asked if everything was okay.

"Yes. Thank you for your efforts and sorry we couldn't apprehend Zinzolin. There are two more to go; we shall keep each other updated. What's your plan?"

I looked in the distance to see a hole in the trees; the entrance to the Abundant Shrine.

"Suit yourself. Have fun Hilbert."

After Looker left, I went down the waterfall to check out the shrine.

Location: Abundant Shrine

The area of the Abundant Shrine was a quite area with the Shrine in the distance and a single house. Interestingly, it wasn't like the modern structures that Unova is used to. It was made of wood with a different roof, almost like the ones found in Johto.

I knocked on the door, and an old man opened the door.

"Well, I'll be. The Hero of Unova. Come on in."

Inside the house, he made me some green tea. (I hated the taste of it but it was a lovely sentiment). The Old Man was called Kaku, and he was a farmer.

"What is this place?" I asked. "Why is the Shrine sacred?"

"It's devoted to Landorus," he said. "You're aware of Tornadus and Thundurus, but Landorus gave the ancient people of Unova bountiful harvests every year. Eventually, we learned to work together to create our own quality crops, and Landorus left. We thanked it by building that shrine. We have no idea where Landorus have gone."

Kaku went into a drawer and took out a watercolour drawing. It depicted a Pokémon like Tornadus and Thundurus, but brown. On the back was a description of it.

Landorus (ランドロス)

151 (Unova)

Ground/Flying Type

Abundance Pokémon

4'11" (1.5 m)

149.9 lbs (68 kg)

Lands visited by Landorus grant such bountiful crops that it has been hailed as "The Guardian of the Fields."

Legendary Pokémon.

"There is one more thing," he said. He went into a cupboard and took out what looked like a round mirror with a cloud pattern on the bottom. "This is the Reveal Glass. It is said to turn Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus into more powerful forms. Will you keep it safe?"

I nodded but didn't promise anything. Kaku handed it to me and I put it in my bag. "I suppose I should go now. It's getting late."

Kaku nodded. "Stay safe Hilbert. Please."

Location: Route 14

Jay was waiting for me at the bridge to trade back Excadrill. We had only been apart for about an hour or two, but we were so glad to reunite.

"Did you do it?" Jay asked.

"Yes," I said. "Thanks for telling me." I handed him some Berries as a thanks. "Use these well. So, how far to the next settlement?"

"Not far," he said. "Few more feet and you will reach a beach. From there, you'll find Undella Town. People who come to Unova for hot weather come here during the Summer; it's packed. I've heard even the previous Champion of the Sinnoh region likes to go there. But since it's not Summer, not many people are there."

I thanked him one more time and headed down the Route.

Location: Undella Town

Jay was right; Undella town was dead silent aside from the splashing of the waves on the shore. There were three villas, a Pokémon Center, some sunbeds and the most eye catching feature, a large white mansion. I decided I would check them out tomorrow.

What a day. I got another Sage arrested and now I have another responsibility. I couldn't make a promise after I failed to keep one to Ghetsis. But now I'm worried that I've jinxed (or Jynxed) my task; keep the Reveal Glass safe.
