Chapter 60:

Cobalion's Message

Location: Route 13

Knowing that the next town, Lacunosa, would be quite a walk, I left Undella Town early. I wanted to get there in one day.

The first part of Route 13 was a patch of grass that would stretch out onto the beach. Yep, Route 13 was a beach Route. If it were summer, it would be a perfect place to relax. But I needed to get a move on.

As I walked, a Fisherman looked over his shoulder and spotted me.

"Hey. I've had some new catches recently. Mind if I test their capabilities?"

Hilbert Vs. Fisherman Pete

Anticipated Water Types but not wanting to use Zekrom, I started with Gothitelle.

"Feebas, go!" Pete shouted. Out came a quite frankly quite ugly brown scaly Pokémon with black fins.

Feebas (ヒンバス)

349 (National)

Water Type

Fish Pokémon

2'00" (0.6 m)

16.3 lbs (7.4 kg)

It is a shabby and ugly Pokémon. However, it is hardy and can survive on little water.

"Sheesh, even the Pokédex is roasting you. Okay Gothitelle, Thunderbolt!" Gothitelle fired lightning at Feebas. Feebas survived. For such an ugly Pokémon I was surprised at well it could take Special Attacks.

"Feebas, Flail!" Feebas jumped up and into Gothitelle. Gothitelle caught it in its hands. Then, Feebas started flailing about, doing damage to Gothitelle. Flail is a move that does more damage the more damage dealt to the user.

"One more Thunderbolt!" With Feebas in close range, Gothitelle gave it one final shock before fainting.

"Return Feebas," said Pete. "Okay Octillery, come on out!" The next Pokémon was red with a funnel-like mouth, eight tentacles and multiple yellow suction cups all over it.

Octillery (オクタン)

224 (National)

Water Type

Jet Pokémon

2'11" (0.9 m)

62.8 lbs (28.5 kg)

It loves to lurk inside holes in rocks. It sometimes sprays ink on prey by sticking out only its mouth.

Remoraid -Lv 25- Octillery

"Thunderbolt again!" Gothitelle fired electricity at Octillery; it didn't even do half.

"Octillery, Signal Beam!" Octillery fired a green beam at Gothitelle. It was a Super Effective Bug Type move. To make matters worse, Gothitelle was confused!

"Gothitelle, try another Thunderbolt!" Gothitelle fired it, but it came back and hit Gothitelle.

"Finish with Signal Beam!" Octillery used one final move, and Gothitelle was down.

"Zekrom, go!" I shouted. "Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged into Octillery covered in electricity. It was finished.

"Nice job Octillery. Okay Kingler, let's do our best!" The final Pokémon was a red-crusty Pokémon with a single large claw. Kingler had trouble lifting it.

Kingler (キングラー)

099 (National)

Water Type

Pincer Pokémon

4'03" (1.3 m)

132.3 lbs (60 kg)

The larger pincer has 10,000-horsepower strength. However, it is so heavy, it is difficult to aim.

Krabby -Lv 28- Kingler

"Use Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged into Kingler, who had quite high Defense so it took it well enough.

"Dig Kingler!" Kingler dug underneath the soil. It dodged a Dragon Claw from Zekrom, then came back above ground and attacked it. It was Super Effective.

"Use another Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged forward into Kingler again. This move was a Critical Hit! Kingler was finished.

"Hook, line and Stinker!"

After that battle, I walked off the grassy bank and onto the beach. The sand felt a million times better than the stuff on Route 4. In fact, I took my shoes and socks off to feel the benefit and walk in the shallow part of the sea. It helped calm me down from the potential Team Plasma threat that may be coming back. Above me, the Wingull squawked.

Wingull (キャモメ)

278 (National)

Water/Flying Type

Seagull Pokémon

2'00" (0.6 m)

20.9 lbs (9.5 kg)

It soars high in the sky, riding on updrafts like a glider. It carries food tucked in its bill.

I wanted to feel that relaxing sensation for a bit longer. However, the sight of a crowd of people cut that feeling short.

I ran over to a random swimmer. "What's going on?" I asked her.

"That," she said, pointing to a fainted Pokemon. It was cream coloured with a horn and had a blue mane.

Keldeo (ケルヂィオ)

153 (Unova)

Water/Fighting Type

Colt Pokémon

4'07" (1.4 m)

106.9 lbs (48.5 kg)

It crosses the world, running over the surfaces of oceans and rivers. It appears at scenic waterfronts.

Mythical Pokémon.

"A Mythical Pokémon?"

"Then it must be rare."

"I'm gonna catch it!"

"No," I said. "No one is going to catch it. It's beat up bad. It needs medical aid." I sent out Gothitelle and it lifted up Keldeo with Psychic. "I'm going to Lacunosa Town. Nurse Joy will know what to do."

Everyone moaned, but I was doing the right thing.

I walked along the sandy beach, wandering why Keldeo ended up like that.

"How you holding up?" I asked it; no response. I checked that Psychic wasn't keeping its mouth shut, but Gothitelle knew better than to do that. "It might need something to eat." I went into my Bag and got out an Oran Berry. I fed it to Keldeo. To my delight, Keldeo started munching it lightly. It slowly opened its eyes.

"Where… am I?" it asked telepathically.

"Gothitelle, try putting it down." Gothitelle slowly put Keldeo down on the ground. Whilst shaky, it slowly got on its all fours.

"Who are you?" Keldeo asked.

"My name is Hilbert. We're getting you to a Pokémon Center in Lacunosa Town. If you need more carrying, Gothitelle will happily do it." Gothitelle nodded in response.

"I don't need your help!" Keldeo shouted. If my brain had eardrums, Keldeo would have ruptured them. "I'm not exactly done for! I'm strong! I'm not finished!"

I had only known this Pokémon conscious for about 30 seconds, and I was already fed up with its brashness. "Now wait a minute. You were lying on the beach, not moving a muscle. You certainly needed help!"

"I can do it on my own!" he once again yelled in my mind. "Urgh. You're just like Cobalion, not thinking I'm ready."

Cobalion's name drop surprised me. "You know Cobalion? Cobalion's my friend!"

"I know, it's amazing. But I hate how it never thinks I'm ready for any of his missions with the other Swords of Justice. I'm going, see yah."

As Keldeo tried to jump away however, it collapsed. Enough was enough. "Gothitelle, Psychic!" Gothitelle lifted up Keldeo telepathically again. "We're going to the Pokémon Center whether you like it or not. That's that."

"No need," came a booming voice from by head once again. We looked up to the cliff above us to see the leader of the Swords of Justice itself.

"Cobalion!" we both yelled.

It jumped down to us, and came up to Keldeo. "Keldeo. Look at you. You didn't try taking it on did you?""

"Of course!" it said. "I'm strong, aren't I? You said it yourself all those years ago!"

"I KNOW!" Cobalion yelled. "But you still need more training. I appreciate your ambition but running off like this to take on things that you have no right taking on at the moment will not help, especially without the others. It simply can't happen." Cobalion eyed me. "Thanks for the little that you did Hilbert, but I will take it from here. Do not mention this to anyone you know, outside of Terrakion and Virizion of course. Gothitelle, please put Keldeo on my back."

Gothitelle did just that, and I talked to Keldeo. "You'll get stronger, I know it Keldeo. Cobalion is a strong Pokémon, and it will turn you into a stronger fighter, maybe even stronger than itself!"

Cobalion smiled, then leapt off.

I walked up some stairs lodged into a cliff that had a forest on it. It was on either side.

There were two paths. One without tall grass that had trees that needed to be cut down, and one with tall grass. Since I didn't have any Pokémon that could use Cut (and no way was I teaching any of my friends that terrible move), I went the long way.

In the tall grass was a Lass. I crossed eyes with her.

"Might want to hurry; Lacunosa's shutting up. But you could at least battle me first!"

Hilbert Vs. Lass Fey

"I choose Scrafty!" I yelled.

"Go Buneary!" Fey shouted. She sent out a very adorable brown-fluffy Pokémon with yellow fluffy ears. (Seriously, I wanted to give Buneary the biggest hug ever).

Buneary (ミミロル)

427 (National)

Normal Type

Rabbit Pokémon

1'04" (0.4 m)

12.1 lbs (5.5 kg)

Its ears are always rolled up. They can be forcefully extended to shatter even a large boulder.

"Buneary, start with Bounce!" Buneary jumped into the sky. It dodged Scrafty's High Jump Kick, meaning that Scrafty kept going and crashed.

"Scrafty, return!" I said. I knew that Bounce was a Flying Type move, so I sent out Zekrom so it could take it. "Now use Dragon Claw!" Zekrom swiped at Buneary for lots of damage.

"Buneary, Charm!" Buneary fired hearts at Zekrom, lowering its Attack stat.

"Use Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged into Buneary and sparks flew off it. Due to the stat lowering, Buneary survived.

"Now use Toxic!" Buneary fired purple goo at Zekrom. It was badly poisoned. Very clever Buneary.

"One more Dragon Claw!" Zekrom swiped Buneary one more time, dealing the final blow.

"Buneary! Oh dear. Okay Snubbull, go!" Snubbull was a pink Pokémon with a vicious looking face.

Snubbull (ブルー)

209 (National)

Normal Type

Fairy Pokémon

2'00" (0.6 m)

17.2 lbs (7.8 kg)

Small Pokémon flee from its scary face. It is, however, considered by woman to be cute.

"Scrafty, come back!" I yelled. "Use High Jump Kick!" Scrafty kicked Snubbull in the face, taking it out in one.

"No Snubbull! That was strong. Okay Shroomish, you're up!" The final Pokémon was a cream-coloured Pokémon with green spots all over it.

Shroomish (キノココ)

285 (National)

Grass Type

Mushroom Pokémon

1'04" (0.4 m)

9.9 lbs (4.5 kg)

It spouts poison spores from the top of its head. These spores cause pain all over if inhaled.

"Chandelure, deal with it!" I shouted. "Use Flame Burst!" Chandelure fired a flame at Shroomish. It exploded upon impact, almost knocking it out.

"Shroomish, Energy Ball!" Shroomish fired a green ball at Chandelure. It didn't do much.

"One more Flame Burst!" Chandelure fired one more flame at Shroomish. The match was mine.

"I should stop delaying you now! Sorry!"

Location: Lacunosa Town

I had no idea what Fey was talking about until I reached Lacunosa Town. This was a small with most houses made of stone and concrete. There was a large wall surrounding the town. It was at least 7:50 in the evening at this point, and barely anyone was out.

"Hey." I saw Nurse Joy poking her head outside the Pokémon Center. "You coming in or not? You don't want to risk getting eaten, do you?"

I had no idea what she was talking about, so I went inside. My Pokémon needed healing anyway.

Location: Lacunosa Pokémon Center

"What is with this place?" I asked Nurse Joy after I booked a room. "What are you talking about getting eaten?"

Nurse Joy pushed a button that locked the doors to the Pokémon Center. "Near us is a crater called the Giant Chasm. It was formed by an ice-covered meteor many years ago. From that meteor emerged a Legendary Pokémon, potentially related to Reshiram and Zekrom. Lacunosa Town was founded whilst the Pokémon was in a deep slumber. But suddenly, every night, it started coming to Lacunosa Town and stealing people and Pokémon away, never to return. We believe that it may have eaten them. To counteract this, Lacunosa Town made a curfew for people to return home at nightfall. Then, a wall was built around the city, so a curfew might not be needed anymore. However, we still keep to the tradition to be safe."

I gulped. I've heard of some truly horrifying Pokémon; there is one that can cause terrible nightmares. But the thought of getting eaten sounded like one of the worst ways to go.

As long as I stay in the Pokémon Center, I'll be fine. So, Keldeo was the one that Cobalion was training. Talk about a feisty dude; Keldeo will get itself killed if not careful. But I believe that it can do it!
