Chapter 61:

A Patrat Filler Chapter

Location: Lacunosa Town Pokémon Center

"Why can't I go now?" I asked Nurse Joy. I wanted to leave Lacunosa Town as soon as I finished my breakfast, but it was 8:55 and I hadn't even left the Pokémon Center because the doors were locked. The next place over was Opulucid City; my circle around the east of Unova was almost complete.

"Please be patient," Nurse Joy said. "We want to be safe."

Like, you would think that after they built that wall, they would gain some confidence. But no. They still had to have a curfew.

Location: Lacunosa Town

It was the longest five minutes ever, but the doors were opened and I went outside. It was an interesting routine to have, but now my routine consisted of getting to the next settlement. It wasn't a super long trek or anything thankfully; I could take my time a bit more.

Location: Route 12

I had no tall grass to worry about on this Route. Yes, there was some, but it was off to the side. I just needed to go over some nice hills. Not run, but just walk and take in the environments.

I watched the Rapidash gallop passed.

Rapidash (ギャロップ)

078

Fire Type

Fire Horse Pokémon

5'07" (1.7 m)

209.4 lbs (95 kg)

When at an all-out gallop, its blazing mane sparkles, enhancing its beautiful appearance.

Ponyta -Lv 40- Rapidash

There was no conflict on this Route; I just walked on through the Gate.

Location: Village Bridge

Well, this is something I wasn't expecting. It was the final bridge of the Unova region; the Village Bridge. Apparently, it was built 200 years ago after a flood washed away some houses. To get around the problem, they built a small settlement on a bridge. It was genius, and the old feel that the place had was oddly relaxing. The houses were made of stones and the roofs were made of durable wood. There was also a red trailer (like the one Alder put a dent in) and some lounge chairs.

I decided to stand by the bridge and watch the Basculin swim down the river for a bit. Not all of my journey had to be about battles and such. It's just nice to get away from everything sometimes.

"Excuse me?" asked a woman in a Breeders outfit. "Are you busy?"

If by busy she meant trying to figure out what colour stripes the Basculin were (they were red, I could just about tell from the eyes), then yes. But I was feeling generous. She was familiar…

It was the girl on the Marvelous Bridge with the Patrat!

"Sure. What's up?"

"I have a show with my amazing dancing Patrat today, but they all ran off. Could you help me find them?"

Oh, it was that kind of day was it? Once again, I was feeling generous. "Sure thing. Let me find- there's one."

Standing on the side of the bridge was a Patrat. "That's one of them!" the Woman said. "Sorry, my name's Patty. Tell me when you've found the rest!"

I wandered around the grasslands on the other side of the Bridge. "They can't have gone far," I thought to myself. I mean, they were Patrat. Not some Flying Type.

Sure enough, I saw a Patrat by the river having a drink of water. Slowly, I walked over to it. It didn't even suspect a thing; a grabbed it. "Found ya!" I said.

I saw Patty on the Bridge waving at me. "Thanks a lot!"

"Gothitelle, go!" I said as Gothitelle was sent out. "Use Psychic!" Gothitelle lifted Patrat up to Patty. "Two down, two to go."

It turned out that I didn't need to look very far for the next Patrat on the other side of the river; it was by the red trailer and was stealing muffins. I ran over to the quite frankly angry Baker.

"Hey!" he said. "What's the big deal?!" He saw me. "You! My brother said that when you visited his trailer, the Champion Alder put a dent in it! Are you a bad omen to our business? Well, I've had enough of it!"

Hilbert Vs. Baker Chris

"Vespiquen, go!" Chris yelled, sending out a yellow flying Pokémon that looked like a hive.

Vespiquen (ビークイン)

416 (National)

Bug/Flying Type

Beehive Pokémon

3'11" (1.2 m)

84.9 lbs (38.5 kg)

It releases various pheromones to make the grubs on its body do its bidding whilst fighting foes.

Combee -Lv 21 (Female)- Vespiquen

"I choose Zekrom!" I replied. "Fusion Bolt!" Zekrom charged into Vespiquen as sparks flew off it. Vespiquen had a relatively high Defense though, so it survived the hit.

"Slash it!" Vespiquen swiped at Zekrom. "Now Destiny Bond!" Vespiquen started glowing black.

"Dragon Claw go!" I shouted, as Zekrom slashed at Vespiquen. It went down. However, upon doing this, Zekrom went down to.

"Nice try, but when a Pokémon that used Destiny Bond goes down, so does the Pokémon that knocked it out."

It was a nice strategy, but he had one Pokémon left over my five.

"Ursaring, I choose you!" Chris' other Pokémon was brown, fuzzy and had a ring on its chest. Its claws were sharp.

Ursaring (リングマ)

217 (National)

Normal Type

Hibernator Pokémon

5'11" (1.8 m)

277.3 lbs (125.8 kg)

In its territory, it leaves scratches on trees that bear delicious fruit and berries.

Teddiursa -Lv 30- Ursaring

"Chandelure, go!" I shouted. I was hoping that Ursaring's moves wouldn't hurt it, but I was about to be proven wrong. "Flame Burst!" Chandelure fired a flame that exploded in Ursaring's face.

"Shadow Claw!" Ursaring's claw went dark, and it swiped Chandelure for Super Effective damage.

"That's enough!" I panicked, replacing Chandelure for Scrafty who took a not very effective Shadow Claw. "Use High Jump Kick!" Scrafty jumped forward, but it missed. It hit the trailer.

"For crying out loud, what is it with you! Ursaring, Brick Break!" Ursaring leapt forward and chopped Scrafty.

"You use Brick Break!" In close range, Scrafty chopped Ursaring. It was knocked out.

"Fine, I'll let you get away with it for now. Just take the stupid Patrat."

I returned it to Patty. There was just one more Patrat to go.

"Where could it be?" she asked.

"There it is!" I said. It was on top of one of the houses.

"Get down from there!" Patty said. Patrat refused. "We need to do this show!" Patrat was shaking its head stressfully.

"I think it might be stage fright," I said.

Patty sighed. "I think you're right. Come on Patrat, for me!"

"No," I said. "Maybe think about what's best for Patrat. If Patrat doesn't want to do it, then don't force it. Maybe try a three Patrat show for today."

Patty gulped. "Okay. I'll try and improvise."

With the Patrat Show being that evening, I decided not to see it. I wanted to be at Opelucid by that night.

Location: Route 11

Route 11 was a scenic cliff route with a large waterfall. Now of course since I didn't have Poliwrath anymore, I couldn't see what was at the top. But I was fine with that.

There was a red trailer here. The Baker saw me and hid inside, locking the door.

I crossed a concrete bridge and was spotted by a Backpacker.

"I really hope my Pokémon can hear me over the waterfall!"

Hilbert Vs. Backpacker Talon

"Go Samurott!" I yelled.

"Go Croagunk!" Talon replied, sending out a blue Pokémon with orange cheeks and a white band around its waist.

Croagunk (グレッグル)

453 (National)

Poison/Fighting Type

Toxic Mouth Pokémon

2'04" (0.7 m)

50.7 lbs (23 kg)

It rarely fights fairly, but that is strictly to ensure survival. It is popular as a mascot.

"Samurott, Hydro Pump!" Samurott fired a blast of water at Croagunk. However, it didn't feel a thing.

"My Croagunk has Dry Skin. It won't be feeling any of that. Okay, use Poison Jab!" Croagunk leapt forward and jabbed Samurott with its poisonous hand.

"That won't do. Come back Samurott. Okay Gothitelle, go!" I shouted.

"Faint Attack Croagunk!" Croagunk suddenly appeared behind Gothitelle and punched it for Super Effective damage.

"Gothitelle, come back with Psychic!" Gothitelle lifted Croagunk into the air, then flung it back. It hit the red trailer, creating a dent in it.

"I guess Croagunk could hear me!"

"Keep your Prize Money!" I said, noticing the Baker angrily coming out of the trailer. "Gotta go!" I ran off, through the Gate.

Location: Opelucid City

"Finally, somewhere familiar." The big, black buildings surrounded me as I caught my breath. Thankfully, the Baker didn't seem to be chasing me anymore. That was my cue to take a break.

And thus, my little adventure at the east of Unova has come to a close. It was a cool experience, seeing Pokémon that usually don't reside around the parts that I'm used to. But I think I might stick to the west for a bit; I still need to find the other two Sages.
