Dawn of War: Where They Belong
If there was a time to tell someone you love them, it is during the course of their life span. Never wait until it is too late to say how much you love them. One day, you will miss them and they may never know.
Chapter 5: Section 5 - 1
Boom! Kaboom! Plink! Snap! Bang! The air is full of smoke, screams, and explosions. The feet smash into the ground as they carry themselves forward into the heart of the base. They are silent and don't say a word. Many are cutting down the enemy with weapons of terrible might. Some open fire at others who take cover behind the shield wall. A whistling sound is heard over head. The impact doesn't shatter the resolve for they believe their cause is not a righteous one; the enemy knows that this is the will of their dark lord. As the voices of the enemy ring loudly at the success, it is cut short as they hear a new noise coming at them. With everyone running in various directions, the heavier impact from the Sons of Malice throws the might of the imperial army into near panic. He lands on the ground hard and feels his head spinning. The high, pitch noise is ringing in his ear. It is annoying as he falls to the ground; the vision is blurry, but it doesn't last for long. He sees the mark of Malice on many as they run through the soldiers. Many are cut down with no mercy. The slaughter is horrifying, but he knows his duty.
Carl picks himself up and pulls out his sword. He manages to stop an attack just in time and counters correctly. He doesn't stab the enemy in the body. Instead, he removes the head of the attacker only to hear his com channel announce "They're everywhere! I'm reading alerts all over the sectors! Where they did come from?!". Carl rushes to the next area and helps out as best as he can. It didn't take long before the enemy retreats from the effort of the imperial army. They lost so many lives, but the real fight will continue. Lucas joins his people among the carnage and finds himself full of rage. As much as he wants to continue chasing after the enemy, the damage must be fixed before anything else is done.
Lucas broadcasts, "Everyone stay alert as we attend to the wounded. I need four companies that are fit to follow me back to the hive city once we secure the base."
As Lina comes to Lucas, she quickly sends her teams out to do what they can for the base and for the wounded. He shows some worry in his eyes, but Lucas keeps his thoughts focused on the tasks.
She says, "I don't understand how this happen, but we will recover. I'll stay beside you for the time being. They don't need me here at the fortress."
Lucas agrees and replies, "We will hurry back to the hive city and retrieve the rest. I highly doubt the Sons of Malice didn't just attack us and leave them unchallenged. Carl will stay here and keep the others ready if they come back."
As the two make the preparations needed for the War Harbinger, Carl receives his instructs on how the handle the rest of the base. With his orders given, Carl sends out his own broadcast to every section of the fortress.
Carl announces, "Soldiers of the imperium, hear me now. Lord General Militant Turner has given me control over the fortress. He will leave us to retrieve the others from the hive city; there can be no shortage of discipline while he is gone. If any of you seek to desert us, execution is your reward. If you question our Lord General's choice, the firing squad will answer. If any of you so much as think of rebellion, you better pray the enemy helps you first before I find you. So, let us go and show the galaxy why the imperial guard is still the greatest."
The soldiers all fiercely cry, "For the Imperium!"
Lucas never feels proud to leave command to Carl. He is brave, tactical, and steady when it comes to maintaining a strong defense. Lina urges all her tech teams to be cautious and keep the repairs up to date. As they board the transport, they both take one look back at fortress. It is still amazing to see the sun shinning over the area of what is the new home for the imperial army. They may not have any adeptus astartes to accompany them, but everyone knows what they are facing. No ork, corrupt space marine, or horrifying xeno would shake their faith. They all believe the emperor is there to guide them to the end. Lucas and Lina take to the War Harbinger, but a small thought comes to mind.
Lina contacts Carl, "I am leaving behind the explorer vessel for you. It may not pack the fire power like the War Harbinger, but it will serve your ends as needed. It can give you some protection for the fortress. We will shall return."
With the War Harbinger ready and climbing to the sky, the small ship detaches. It lands just within range of the control center. The War Harbinger leaves behind its hopeful as Lucas and Lina go forth to find out the condition of the hive city. Carl manages to keep the entire base busy for the time until he receives word from the gate watchers; many other officers step up their efforts to maintain order. He heads over to find Aun El Rai and his personal guard waiting to speak with him. As the guests are invited in, many tau and imperial soldiers take to watching the base with their leaders speaking. Even the newly acquired gue'vesa help improve the chances of defending the base and aiding the weak. Carl and El Rai take the center of the fortress to discuss the recent surprise on their base.
Carl is amazed and says, "You got to be kidding me? Your base was attacked by the Sons of Malice too? What happen?"
Aun El Rai answers, "The enemy didn't get pass our defense system, but they managed to use some sort of power we rarely see. There was a mist in the air and that is when they start appearing. They have slain many of our fire warriors and caused destruction where they could. I've ordered Shas'O Kais to follow your War Harbinger back to the hive city and secure it for future developments. I will remain here and help you solidify the area. These silent warriors of Malice nearly got me, but they didn't count on the honor guard to stop them. Suu is willing to send over any assistance if you need it. For now, we are repairing our own base."
Before any more words are spoken, Suu walks in to inform her ethereal of the interesting surprise that comes to them.
She says, "Aun El Rai, there is movement coming to the base. It is similar to the last attack. I am preparing the fire warriors for combat. The honor guard will remain close by to you. There is no time to waste. Kroot packs are getting ready too."
El Rai acknowledges her words and goes to find his honor guard escort. Suu sees Carl and nearly forgets about the mission to give him a smile.
Suu approaches him, "I know this isn't the best of times to inform you of anything, but once we recover from this debacle, I must speak with you. It is important."
Carl sighs and replies, "I am sure you want to 'properly' try to thank me for helping you, but it can wait. For now, let's focus on making sure both of our bases are ready for any more danger."
She understands as they leave out to rally the troops and keep their army focused. To their surprise, a new alert comes to the imperial base. Aun El Rai contacts Suu by radio and begs her to bring Carl with additional backup. They journey to the west side of the imperial fortress; the surprise happens to be the eldar in person. Carl didn't understand what brings them here, but Kayleth and Veldoran are at the front of their escort.
Aun El Rai says, "You are not to be here among us. As we recall, the eldar need no one unless you are ready to accept the concept of the Greater Good."
Kayleth boldly steps forward with her warp powers flaring up, "I am not here to argue with you over trivial matters. The enemy attacked us and have taken Xiwe. Where is your Lord General Lucas at?"
Veldoran adds, "This isn't the best of time for any of us, but we are in need of your help."
Carl gives them the news of where Lucas has gone to; El Rai also provides the eldar with the update of where Shas'O Kais has went. The news provides them with much to think on, but they don't lose sight of what they can do. As the trio of factions begin to see that more danger is coming to them, they put aside any issues and start working together. Carl receives a contact from the tech team. Suu picks up radio chatter from the technology department and Kayleth feels something floating around. The teams of the tau and imperium report something dangerous coming from the orbit. Before any can report what is coming, the answer comes to them unexpected. Veldoran uses his telepathic powers on Suu, Carl, and Kayleth.
He says, "The orks are coming from above us. They will land soon and come here."
Having just finished his words, everyone looks to the sky to see a large 'rok' fall from the sky on fire. It flies inland and crashes southwest. The impact is only forty miles out of from the base. Carl and Aun El Rai organize the armies as fast as they can. Though victory is certain, Veldoran and Kayleth agree to join them. Carl happily accepts their offer only to hear Suu and El Rai voice their complaints.
Aun El Rai says, "You would trust them to fight at our side? What is to keep them from retreating and leaving us to fight the orks on our own?"
Suu adds, "The enemy is the orks, but the eldar will turn against us before we can even strike the killing blow to them. You should not trust them unless they are willing to fight for the lives of everyone."
Before Carl can reply, Kayleth steps to them, "You may not trust us with our methods, but we are here to fight. The enemy took our farseer from us. We know not where she has gone so, all we can do is help until Xiwe returns. We will fight along side you; the enemy will be defeated. I doubt the orks were sent here just to ransack the planet."
The factions do what they can as the orks slowly set up their armies and get ready for their war to start. The orks didn't waste any time hacking and slashing down trees and altering the landscape to look more orkish. As they continue to gear up, the words feel hollow yet wrathful. No one didn't expect trouble to come from the Sons of Malice at a time such as this. Even with the soldiers ready to fight, Lucas and Lina keep their mind focused on what can possibly happen next. As the second-in-command officers stand in attendance, the pair go over in detail about what they may face once they arrive at the hive city.
Lucas says, "We lost a few of our people, but we will get them back. For now, the hive city is our top priority. Our objective is to extract only. You have your assignments and your teams. Get to it."
Lina adds, "All squads will have two skitarii members providing sniper fire. Let's all try to come back alive and zero injuries. Any useful tech or metal discovered must be recovered for further study."
The orders are simple and ready; however, only two of the people still find their hands and mind occupied by what they may face.
Lucas kisses her gently, "I promise we will get this done and be ready for the next attack. What could possibly.."
Lina covers his mouth and replies, "Don't you dare finish that line. Don't you make any promises to me. I won't hear of it, my love."
Chapter 5: Section 5 - 2
The liquid splashes against the cold metal. It drips to the hard surface. The voice of many proud people screamed for a long time. Each person is silenced with a swing of the arm. Every piece of flesh is craved, slashed, and torn beyond repair. No amount of medicine and bandages will heal the flesh. They all look on at the damage done to the area; there are too many injured people all around them. Lucas and his company do what they can to extract the wounded out. The depressing moments are the unfortunate ones being executed to spare them any more pain. The tau forces do what they can to help ease their own wounded, but nothing is promised. Shas'O Kais helps where he can only to keep his fire teams alert and ready. It didn't take them long to finish up and come together to hear from their acting leaders.
Asuki reports, "They came from the lower levels of the hive city. We don't know who they are, but they kept whispering the same chant over and over again. Someone called Malice is coming; they mention how he will save us all."
Shas'O Kais replies, "You did your duty well and didn't fail. For now, you and the others will return to the ship and await further orders. I will investigate the lower regions of the city. Go now, and recover from your ordeal."
Elara comes to her commander, "Lord General Turner, I served the imperium with unrelenting faith in the emperor and duty to humanity. We held the line against these foul people of this Malice Lord. I am not injured and can still continue to give you my support. Please, allow me to join your side and continue to fight."
Lucas answers, "You have done enough. Return to the War Harbinger and be ready for your next assignment. I will finish this mission and have us back home soon."
Once Asuki and Elara retreat back to the ship, Kais and Lucas join together to discuss their next plan. Before they can talk, a report comes from one of the teams about enemy movement just outside of the area. Lucas and Kais organize their troops to be ready. The motion detectors go off rapidly. A noise is heard from in front of them; a single person walks forward slowly. He breathes hard and heavy; Lucas orders his troops to hold and be steady. Shas'O Kais informs his fire warriors to remain calm and ready. The look of the man is horrible. He bleeds from his body in various spots. Once he is in range, he stops and looks at everyone. Despite his horrid appearance, everyone can see his markings to Malice. He looks at them with blood shot eyes. With a bloody cry, they rush pass him with rage in their eyes. Lucas and Kais order their teams to open fire. The person falls before he can get close to their troops. After the man falls, they walk out and continue to check for any signs of life. Lucas orders his men to make sure that any they encounter enemy is dead. Every soldier fires two to three times at the crazed man's head.
Kais says, "Why do you order them to waste more bullets if the enemy is dead?"
Lucas replies, "If there is one thing I learned from Malice, it is never mistake a dead person for being truly dead."
Having just finished his sentence, the body of the dead man raises from the ground. Suddenly, he catches on fire. He burns greatly from the warp fires that cover his body and she steps from the shadows of her own web way portal.
Xiwe says, "You are foolish to come here and your weapons barely can do the task. I see many of you dying here if you continue going. Cease your ways and leave from this place unless you prefer to burn like the others."
Lucas orders his men to keep going further in; Kais instructs his teams to follow. They ignore Xiwe until she blocks the path of Lucas and Shas'O Kais. Several guns aim at her.
She repeats, "Clearly, you didn't hear me when I said you must leave from here. Your presence is only going to lead everyone to an early grave."
Shas'O Kais aims his cannon at her and Lucas says, "You can do what you wish, but we are here to put a stop to the forces of Malice. Any and all followers of chaos will receive the same reward from our weapons."
As the rage and tension rises, Xiwe looks around to see that several more guns are aiming at her. She recoils back her need to push the issue, but there is more trouble coming to them. A loud noise is heard from behind their back. Everyone turns to face the new threat. They see an army of followers ready to hack them to pieces. Each follower of Malice looks on with blood shot eyes. With little time to fall back into formation, the alliance of tau and imperium attack the mad followers. Lucas and Kais join their troops to keep them from falling apart. Xiwe uses her warp powers to blow back the enemy and obliterate them. Though the soldiers of the alliance hold back the enemy, they are endless as each one keeps rising up. Lucas orders his men to fall back to the surface; Shas'O Kais gives the word to retreat.
He steps forward as they continue to return back to the entrance. He has fully healed from his wounds and stands ready to see his opponents again. The breathing of the many is low as they stop just outside of the area from their prey. He chuckles lightly and continues to come forward. Once he is in view, he sees the three that must be captured. Lucas, Kais, and Xiwe look back to see the pathway open before them as the Sons of Malice allow him to step forward. He still walks in heavy boots with skulls on his knee caps. The robe is no longer covering his torso and every piece of flesh is exposed. The mark of Malice is on his arms and chest. Instead of seeing a human head, they all see a horned beast with the face of a man. He smiles at his prey and points to them.
Balrok says, "The witch must be taken alive. Bring her to the planet. I will be there soon."
He slowly fades away as the followers rush at Xiwe with eagerness. She does what she can to fight them off, but many use warp spells to block her attacks. Lucas and Kais do what they can to fight off the enemy, but nothing else works. Soon, Xiwe finds herself held down by the use of warp rings from the mad attackers. The tau and imperial soldiers fight to recover her only to see them disappear elsewhere. With the orders to retreat in full swing, Lucas speaks with Lina to track any movement from the planet. Kais orders the ship operators to scan for any movement. To everyone surprise, they see a ship rise up from the surface. From under the soil around the hive city, the ship of the mad followers rises. As they hurry back to the ship, Lucas orders two companies of soldiers to be ready for insertion.
Lina contacts Lucas, "My Lord Lucas, what is going on?"
Lucas replies, "The enemy is going to reach a certain point above the orbit. Once they have done so, the ship will jump to another location. We have to get on the ship no matter what."
Lina wants to stop her lover from leaving, but he continues, "I understand I am leaving you to stop them, but I promise you this. I will return and I am using the beacon you gave me. For now, Elara will be in charge until I return. I have to do this. Get the ship back to Xoen and make sure the wounded are taken care of."
With his mind set on his next course of action, Lina orders the ship operators to get as close as they can to the fleeing ship. It didn't take long for the tau ship to follow in the same manner. Lina receives another radio contact from the tau. Every shuttle of the tau and imperial army returns to their own ship as fast as possible.
Asuki says, "War Harbinger, this is the Great Spear. I am informing you of the tau commander's action. He will board the ship and bring back the precious cargo the enemy has taken. I have assumed command over the ship until he returns."
Lina replies back, "I understand. The Lord General will also be aboard the ship."
As the ships rise up and come within range of the enemy vessel, Lucas and Shas'O Kais order their finest troops to be ready for the insertion. Once above orbit of the planet, the enemy ship comes to its location. The War Harbinger and Great Spear line up beside the ship and launch insertion pods. The pods crash into the starboard and port side of the enemy ship. Lina and Elara look on to see something wrong with the ship. Asuki brings up all monitors of the enemy ship. The ship shakes and electricity sparks up everywhere. Shortly, a warp portal opens. Lina contacts Lucas as fast as she can only to hear his last message.
Lucas says, "The ship is...slip-pin...into...warp. I will...find you..."
With a blink of an eye, the ship exits into the warp and leaves no trace behind. Lina, Elara, and Asuki can't believe their own eyes. Lucas and Shas'O Kais are gone with no way of tracking them. Lina lowers her head, but she remembers her duty. Elara joins her at the top deck of the ship. They send Asuki a message of their next plan.
Asuki contacts the War Harbinger, "We must return back to Xoen and help defend our home. I will make sure the tau keeps it word to help the others left alive."
The War Harbinger and Great Spear set coordinates for the journey home after they make sure everyone is out of the hive city. On Xoen, the forces of the alliance continue to set up the defenses for the orks. After making preparations, Carl and Suu continue to read over the reports of what the orks are doing. The insight of the foe didn't offer much to them. All the scouts report is how well the orks ravage an area and make it more 'orky' for them. Aun El Rai continues to urge the tau forces to be at their best when the enemy arrives. At the war camp, the duo give out orders and manage the soldiers well.
Suu points to the map, "All kroot warriors will remain here until the orks are closer to the front line. For now, every fire warrior and path finder will help keep the enemy in the front for the time being. We will deploy as many XV88 broad side battle-suits as we can to hold back the tide. The vespid will join the battle only when the orks are close."
Carl instructs his troops with the tau fire warriors present, "The orks will come charging at us with every intent on killing us. The heavy the firepower, the more they will continue to gather in strength if they believe they can take it. So, we will do only enough until they become a problem for us. We only have a little time left. Everyone make yourself ready before we are up to our necks in orks."
The crowds of officers and lieutenants scatter to their groups. Carl tries to head out, but Suu stops him for a brief moment.
She says, "When we are done with the orks, I must speak with you about something important. You can not die here."
Carl raises an eyebrow, "I have no intention on dying here against the green horde. It is they who have come here to die. And yes, I haven't forgotten for the fourth time that you want to talk. Now, let's get ready to face them."
As the tau and imperial soldiers finalize their setup, the web way portals open and release the eldar. Kayleth and Veldoran lead their kin and others from craftworld Ctho. Though the humans are comfortable with the mysterious eldar, the tau keep their eyes on the landscape as much as they worry about the eldar. Suu looks on to see Kayleth order the eldar around; it isn't long before the roar of the orks is heard. Carl looks on as the soldiers stand anxious to fire and keeps their morale up. He scans the landscape ahead of them.
Carl shouts, "Imperial Guard!"
The soldiers cry, "We are the best!"
He continues, "Imperial Guard!"
They says, "We are the best!"
"Imperial Guard!"
"We are the best!"
Many tau warriors finish their praying to be strong for their ethereal. With only one-hundred and fifty yards of space, the sound of trees falling puts the alliance on alert. Many trees fall over as they all look on to see a few orks come from the forest. Carl orders the ogryn to set the barricades down in front. Thanks to the latest developments by Lina, the barricades now can extend as high as a one story building. The soldiers take aim to the approaching mob. With a fierce shout from Carl, the first line of soldiers open fire. They easily take down the few that pass through the trees. As the numbers slowly increase, the orks now use the overhead tactic with rocket flyers. Suu orders her soldiers to aim upward and blast them out of the sky. Several rocket orks die quickly only to see the others countered by imperial troops taking to the sky by use of their own jet backpack.
Suu contacts Carl, "You see what I am seeing in the distance? They are trying to advance some of the vehicles onto the field."
He replies, "It is alright. They are still testing us and bringing out their heavy units shortly."
In moments, orks on wheels roll forward at them firing guns and rockets. Most of the firepower from the orks hit the barricades and takes down handfuls of soldiers. To counter this, Veldoran orders the Vypers intercept the speed freaks. The method works in their favor, but it only increases the orks to desire more conflict.
Aun El Rai informs both Carl and Suu, "The enemy is growing in numbers. If we can't give the orks a decent fight, they may surprise us from elsewhere."
Carl smirks, "Well, then I guess we better keep them all focused on us here. We don't want them getting to the idea of exploring the areas around us. So, I hope everyone is ready."
Suu tries to question Carl's plan of attack, but he steps forward. He orders the soldiers to switch to their sword and combat knife. The tau fire warriors watch in confusion. Carl takes a few steps forward and Kayleth appears by his side with a sword in hand.
She says, "This method of bravado will not win you anything. It may force the orks to advance on you with overwhelming numbers."
He says, "Well, like the last man told us a long time ago. If we have to give these xeno bastards our life, we will give them hell before they take it."
Kayleth stands ready to help with her howling banshees moving up the field. Before the final word is given, more orks show up from the forest. They rush from the trees with their weapons ready to hack and slash into their enemy. As Suu and the tau look on with worry, Carl takes two steps forward with Kayleth looking on. He takes his hand to his sword and pulls it from his hip. It is sharp and bright as though the hands of the emperor blessed his weapon. He looks on with nerves of rage and steel. He lets his voice travel through the communication device to all imperial soldiers.
Carl shouts, "For the Immortal Emperor of Mankind!"
The imperial forces charge from the safety of the others to go to the orks for melee combat. Kayleth and the howling banshees join them. The tau are at a loss for words, but they do what they can to not cause friendly fire. Aun El Rai orders the kroot to keep waiting. Suu watches from afar as the imperial soldiers follow Carl into battle. To the surprise of the tau, the orks come out from the forest in great numbers. Despite seeing the orks increase in numbers, the imperial army and eldar continue to charge at the enemy.
Chapter 5: Section 5 - 3
It is quiet and dark. Only the lights reveal the carnage of what has taken place aboard the ship. The stains are everywhere around the walls and floor. He is cautious and aware of what can happen. They are all dead in various ways. Did they all commit suicide? Many are cut at the throat and others are ripped in half. No one is spared. All of them died horribly. As Lucas and Shas'O Kais lead their companies, everyone keeps their mind, sight, and body alert for any danger coming at them. The ship they jump on is too quiet. Lucas feels that coming aboard the ship is a mistake, but they knew their duty. Once they clear another section of the ship, they take a moment to rest up for five minutes.
Shas'O Kais comes to him, "This is unusual. We only been on the ship for a few minutes and everyone is dead. I am not pleased with the outcome of this. What do you believe?"
Lucas gulps down some water and answers, "I don't know what to make of this either. I would say luck, the emperor, or whatever you believe in is on our side; however, that is not the case. I know something is wrong with this. There is more going on here than what our eyes see. For now, we will save our speculation for later. After we make it to the center, the rest will be easy to see."
After five minutes go by, they continue their journey through the ship. They find a few followers of Malice alive trying to either fight back or plea for a quick death. Lucas and Kais finish up the rest of the searching only to come to a strange area of the ship. The area is covered in bodies and more blood. It appears a ritual or sacrifice was to begin, but it went horribly wrong. A head is laying over to the side and several arms are missing from the body of many. It sickens a few, but they all press on. Lucas orders his troops to fan out. Shas'O Kais calls to him. They gaze upon the single approaching follower of Malice. He bleeds from his body at various areas. It is as though he was cut up and left alive to bear his pain before the final departure of his head can begin. Lucas orders his men to be ready; Kais stands with him.
He says, "She...is...here...Why...?"
Before a single question can be asked, the neck bleeds profusely. No words can be spoken or utter. Only the gurgling sound of blood from him is heard. The man falls over only for her to reveal herself to the others. Xiwe stands before the alliance fully armed and disappointed. To their surprise, many more eldar of Ctho appear from the shadows armed and ready to fight as well. They would fire until the small group of harlequins and eldar of Alaitoc appear in the center around the others. The tau soldiers are caught off guard, but the imperial troops stand alert despite the tension coming from within the ship. Shelia opens up her chat with how careless Xiwe is with her acts.
Shelia says, "Your reckless attacks have made this more difficult for us. Now, I am sure the enemy will be ready for us when we arrive."
Xiwe scoffs, "The only thing more annoying than your voice is seeing the mon-keigh and younglings here. They may prove our undoing when we face him."
Lucas places his bolter away and replies, "Oh well excuse us if we deemed stopping the Sons of Malice and saving your fragile self more important than sitting around waiting to die."
Shas'O Kais asks, "Do either of you know where we are traveling to? We may be able to turn this to our advantage."
Xiwe looks at Kais, "You may prove worth something, but these mon-keigh will not be worth keeping around us."
Lucas interrupts, "Despite your annoying manner, we are in a less than favorable advantage. The ship is taking us somewhere with no back up for us. In any case, we need to use all our resources and anything else aboard this place to our advantage. If we come face to face with Balrok, I want that fool to know he won't win."
Shas'O Kais and Lucas set the troops to searching and looting the ship. Shelia and Xiwe stand at odds. Unsure about how things are looking, Lucas takes a moment to look at the last message sent to Lina. It reads:
"I will find you..."
He keeps hope in his heart regardless of what the imperial creed says, but the moment is interrupted by Shelia.
She says, "You didn't get a chance to tell her yet you feel as though you will see her again."
Lucas replies, "I may see her again. I may die on this mission. But, she will have more to look forward to than me leaving her in this life. I will help the imperium in this galaxy. And by my life, my old friend will come to them when my own expires."
He walks away to join the others. Shelia looks upon Lucas only to see something great shines within him. Shas'O Kais continues to oversee the gathering of random food and ammo for the humans to use. He enjoys the sight of seeing tau and humans working together so well. From behind his back, he hears a slightly buzzing and she steps to him.
Xiwe says, "Your talents would be better useful keeping the humans at bay than aiding them. You have so much to learn before you can achieve the empire you need."
Shas'O Kais strongly answers, "I have known your kind well enough to know that your method does not work. If your people are wise and all powerful as they once were before their empire fell, then you would not be as scattered as you are now. Your demeanor says enough that humanity and the eldar are similar, the view on life your kind has is as similar as the humans view us. You may keep your own counsel to yourself for I believe in something greater than what you desire. Lucas and I will be successful here with 'your' assistance provided."
With his statement given, Shas'O Kais joins Lucas at his side to discuss what they may find once the ship arrives at its destination. Xiwe stands annoyed by how she is being ignored by the young tau commander.
She thought, "Shas'O Kais can be so much more yet he is willing to put his own life in jeopardy with the lower lifeforms. What can these mon-keigh do for us?"
Shelia appears before her, "You tried to convince the tau commander to use the humans for our gain? I assure you that won't come to past. The ethereal does not waste what he can bring over to his side. The commander will never look to use anyone."
Xiwe replies, "The tau are the only advantage I see here if we are prevent the true disaster from coming. I was going to leave out the information from you and the others. I can only pray that they won't give the enemy any more chances to strike us down."
The tau and human troops work well together; each part of the ship is empty or covered with dead followers of Malice. It didn't take long before the troops have enough ammo and explosive to take out a fortress or several small camps. As the eldar watch from high places of the ship, Xiwe and Shelia listen to the words from the commanding officers of the alliance.
Lucas says, "I don't know what we are facing. This ship is taking us somewhere through space and there is no way back. So, we will do what we can to ensure we have a way back. My troops have a few stealth devices to help them get around the land. They even managed to find some old tech here, but none of us can use it. Once this ship stops, we will be ready to fight whatever comes at us."
Shas'O Kais agrees, "My own teams have found plenty of ways to use the resources on hand. The entire ship is small enough to hold only a mere two-hundred at full capacity. I still have a few more teams searching the ship with your few scouts. As for any plan to deal with any who oppose us at our destination, I have my fire warriors ready to assist in any way possible. If we are lucky, the ship will be useful and fixed into something useful for us to return back."
Shelia leaps from the darkness above their head and spins before them. Lucas and the imperial soldiers stand at ease, but the tau feel nervous enough to squeeze the trigger.
She says, "The planet we are going to is another system away from your home. We go to face a dangerous foe; I am only warning you of the danger that is awaiting. Are you certain you are ready to dance with death?"
Lucas and his men proudly agree. The tau fire warriors and Kais understand what is their next target. High above the heads of everyone, Xiwe continues to let her mind see what is in the future. It is as clear as day until something happens that blocks out her sight. The last image of what the future shows is her encounter with a former space marine of the imperium.
Xiwe thought, "The future is uncertain. I will face a dangerous foe and if we are fortunate, our victory over him will be flawless. Beyond that, I can not see what else comes to the eldar. For now, I go to meet this fool with victory on my mind."
The noise around him is loud and powerful. The high, loud ringing sound shrieks in his ear. He looks out into the open to see many rifles fire and hear the roar of the cannon firing. A set of hands grab ahold of him to pull back from the carnage. In front of his eyes, he sees warp powers used on the mobs of the green muscle to hold them back. They are endless as the distance land is full of marching orks ready to destroy. With his annoyance renewed, Carl picks himself up and continues to rally those that can fight. Many are pulled from the front lines and others are patched up during the fight. In the middle of the fight, Carl lets his voice ring loud among his troops.
He orders, "Keep the pressure up on the orks. Don't let them get any more closer than where they are now."
Suu joins Carl, "The orks are too many. They have nearly overcome our position twice and continue to push in as fast as we reinforce the lines. We must fall back to the fortress."
Before another word is heard, Aun El Rai contacts both leaders by radio and alerts them of something breaking through the sky.
He says, "The static is loud, but the message is clear. Brace for arrival."
Carl, Suu, Kayleth, and Veldoran all turn their heads back to see a wonderful surprise break through the clouds above them. It is the War Harbinger and the Great Spear. The powerful cannons on both ships fire at the ground just ahead of the front lines. The orks fly backward only for the real threat to emerge from within their ranks. The war chief roars greatly as the orks urge everyone to come at them. To the surprise of everyone, Lina alerts all ground forces of reinforcements coming in fast. Once the War Harbinger is close enough, it fires several large pods to the surface. The Great Spear has its fighters leave by small aircraft. Carl stands before everyone and keeps their morale high.
He cries, "For the Imperium of Man! The orks die today!"
Chapter 5: Section 5 - 4
He stands perfectly still high upon his podium of authority. The ship landed about an hour ago. The only thing now is to wait for the enemy to show up. The air is soft against his skin; the howl of the wind is relaxing to his ears. All around him are the sands of the planet with old ruins and stones to cover the surface. It has been a long time since his last encounter with the one that left him a scar. The plans to keep him trapped in a deep sleep must continue, but how much longer can it last. There will be a time to enjoy the breeze, but the enemy is here. She walks over slowly to him with a cautious approach. This meeting was inevitable. He turns to face her with a long disappointed look on her face. She responds in a similar manner. Despite the outcome, both stand calm and at ease.
Balrok says, "So, you have been reaching through the warp to find me. I must say this is such a failure on your part. If I wanted you to find me quickly, I would have revealed myself to you all on that pitiful planet. At least here, you have the chance to face me in person. I am glad you came by choice. And you must be the new farseer to the craft world Alaitoc and Ctho. Your name is Xiwe."
She smiles briefly and scoffs, "You must be the one known as Balrok. I have heard about you more than enough. Our meetings was going to happen no matter what. You once served the Master of Fate, Tzeentch. Then, you left him to serve a much darker master. Malice may have given you his power, but you are weaker than you were before. Unlike the others you fought, I won't leave nothing to chance."
From behind her back, he walks forward with his gun and sword ready. Balrok looks over Xiwe's shoulder to see him once again. He nearly laughs at the idea that he can stand up to him.
Lucas says, "So, this is where you are hiding. You stay on a dead world made of old ruins, sand, dust, and metal? I expected more from you; however, you do have answers I want to know. So, I'll keep it short. Where is Max Johnson? What did you seek to gain from trapping us here?"
Xiwe did have questions for Balrok, but she holds back her curiosity for now.
He says, "Malice's plans are infinite beyond your understanding. He has already seen his victory. The greatest struggle will be against the other Chaos Gods. I have seen his victory complete. Once they die, he will be able to do as he will with the galaxy. As for your friend, he won't be around to see it."
Lucas takes his gun and sword in both hands, "I think you will find that we do not fail in the face of evil."
Balrok smirks as he raises his hands above his head. Instead of attacking the pair, he creates a shield around him as Shas'O Kais and his two crisis battle suit escort fire rounds at him. The shield absorbs the gun fire only to repel every shot back at the tau. Kais and his unit separate to various parts of the landscape. Balrok spins his staff above his head only to feel a bullet crash into his arm. He looks back at Lucas and his men to see them spread out as they take turns firing at the him. With a wave of his hand, Balrok reappears among them and strikes at his opponents with the staff. Many go down and suffer an intense pain to the leg, arm, shoulder, or head. Lucas slams his sword against him only to watch him block his attack. Before they can engage each other, Shelia leaps into the combat and tries to strike from behind. Using his staff to hold Lucas at bay, he manages to block both assaults and knock them back with a strong force of warp power. The impact to his back is powerful and hurtful. Balrok growls with rage and summons more of his warp power only to feel it slip from him. He counters the warp power of Xiwe and sends her flying back.
Balrok thought, "This is no good. I won't win this unless I take more from him. It is the only way."
Back on Xoen, the woman stands by and looks upon him. She knows he is unconscious for now, but the warp continues to slip away. She walks over to him and looks down. Suddenly, a wave of warp energy shoots out and knocks her back. The force is too strong, but she regains her balance. Upon looking at him, she sees his face full of anger, rage, and annoyance. She didn't understand why he is showing so much expression in his face.
She thought, "Something is wrong with him. The warp is slipping from the area more and more."
The strike to his face sends him flying through the air. Lucas crashes into the soil. Before Balrok can deliever the killing blow, missile fire comes from Shas'O Kais. The destruction decimates the area around him, but Balrok surprises the tau commander with a barrage of warp missiles to throw him off balance. The two battle suit tau warriors are burned alive within their suit. Xiwe steps in and uses her lighting blast to damage Balrok; the attack does nothing. Balrok leaps at her with surprising speed. They lock staffs against each other. A group of humans fire at the back of Balrok. The blast barely force him to stagger, and he continues to hold his own. Shas'O Kais recovers from the last attack and looks over to see Balrok gain the upper hand. With quick reaction, Kais moves at them and fires a special device near the leg of Balrok. The device generates an electric field that pulls Balrok's staff to the ground. He tries to use another spell to break the device only to feel warp rings twist around his body. Lucas and others step forward; they fire a few large, metal rings to lock him up some more. Balrok can't lift his arms or move his legs. Lucas, Shelia, Xiwe, Shas'O Kais, and everyone surround him. Balrok starts laughing which causes everyone to halt.
He says, "You truly believe that your methods will stop me? I have lived long enough and acquired more knowledge to deal with you all."
Xiwe summons the warp to her hands, "You will not dwell in this galaxy any more, slave to the Fallen One."
As she continues to gather more warp, something happens. Xiwe looks above her head to see that the warp now transfers to him. Once he gathers enough, he uses the warp to break free of his trap. The shock wave throws everyone back from Balrok. He retakes his staff from the device. Everyone looks to see Balrok draw on the warp greatly. First, he ascends to the sky. Then, he launches various warp spheres at the ground. Shas'O Kais and Lucas order their troops to scatter as fast as they can. Every sphere erupts upon contact with the ground. Many soldiers and tau fire warriors are caught in the blast. They die horribly from the warp powers of Balrok.
As they continue to push back against the destruction, the alliance moves deeper into the lines of the orks. Carl is keeping the troops alert and focused; Suu is maintaining the order and formation. Above their heads, the War Harbinger and Great Spear continue to hammer the area as the war chief of the orks urges them to move forward despite the amount of fire power being thrown at them. Many looter tanks fire at imperial tanks and tau hover tanks. As the orks suffer many losses, they retreat from the area only to fall back to the ork fortress. With the enemy gone, they use this time to redouble their efforts. Carl and Suu organize the troops as best as they can. They meet Elara and Asuki to discuss what is going on.
Elara reports, "Lord General Turner infiltrated an enemy ship with a company of a dozen soldiers to slay the enemy. Other than that, there is nothing else I can tell you."
Asuki includes, "Commander Shas'O Kais joined the Lord General on his dangerous journey, but we don't have any more information for the time being. For now, we came back to help out where we can only to discover the orks attacking home."
Kayleth and Veldoran join them by the command center of the alliance.
She says, "The orks have retreated to their stronghold. They will try for us once they are ready. We must quickly move on them."
Veldoran agrees, "The time to strike must be now if we are to finish off the ork horde completely. I've sent warlocks around the land to burn any ork remains."
Carl nods his head in agreement that the time is now. Before anyone can do much, a strong breeze rushes by everyone. The breeze is cold and hollow. Kayleth and Carl look around to see if he has returned. There is no sign of him. Aun El Rai joins with everyone to discuss what just happen. For Carl and Kayleth, the explanation is obvious.
Carl says, "Only one man has the ability to send out a wave of unknown and cold chills when the weather is clear. If he appears, we may still be able to win this."
Kayleth adds, "Until we see him again, we must continue to move forward and stop the ork menace now. All else can be dealt with later."
Carl, Asuki, Elara, Suu, Aun El Rai, Veldoran, and Kayleth all agree that the orks have to be stopped before they get out of hand. As everyone goes about their routine, Kayleth takes the moment to step away from everyone. She looks back at her hand only to wonder if what she feels is real.
She thought, "Where are you, Max? We need you now more than ever."
The damage is done. Lucas stands up to see his company of soldiers wounded or dying before him. He tries to help where he can, but everyone is too badly wounded. He looks up to see them in the distance. Balrok lands on a high rock far from Xiwe. She spins her rod and summons warp energy through it. Upon striking the ground, lighting shoots at Balrok. He leaps into the sky and throws a powerful warp sphere of fire at her. She blocks it and redirects the blast back at him. Balrok knocks it back only to see Xiwe cancel the attack out. Balrok holds his staff high above his head. He throws it at the farseer; she leaps from her position and feels the explosive warp throw her back. Balrok chuckles at the destruction done. Shelia leaps at Balrok with a slash across his face and body.
He says, "You should know better than to attack me. I hope you are ready to pay for the consequences."
Shelia replies, "Your death will be apart of my dance."
She attacks him with graceful leaps and twists. Every scar she inflicts on him does nothing. With a swing of his staff, Balrok knocks her back with ease. Before he can follow up with his attack, a single shot smacks his shoulder and forces him to stagger. The tau commander lands across from him full of wrath and rage.
Shas'O Kais says, "You have caused the death of my fellow soldiers. I will make sure vengeance is mine."
Balrok replies, "You are a child that stumbles in the void of space. Your technology will not save you from the coming fire."
He answers, "This is your last chance to surrender and give to the Greater Good. Don't force me to remove you."
Instead of bowing or kneeling, Balrok uses the warp powers. He forces Shas'O Kais to fly defensively. For every attack against him, Kais counters with a blast from his cannons. Balrok uses the warp to launch more spheres of fire at him. With his shields charged up, many spheres of fire explode upon contact. Shas'O Kais keeps blasting away at Balrok and forces him to use more stronger spells. As he summons up the warp, Balrok feels a pull at his body.
He thought, "I need to draw on more. I must take more from him."
Balrok takes in a massive amount of warp energy and uses a spell on Kais. The spell sends the tau commander smashing into the ground. Xiwe leaps in front of him and tries to counter the powerful spell coming at them. She manages to hold back the attack only to further bring harm to herself. Shelia leaps in front of Xiwe and stands ready only for a surprise to come to them all.
Lucas says, "All of you get out of here! I will hold him back!"
Xiwe weakly moves to him and replies, "I..I will...not retreat..."
He crushes his fist into her body. If Xiwe didn't use her powers to protect Shas'O Kais, the punch to the sternum would not be effective. Shelia nods her head at Lucas, but she knows this won't end well.
She grabs ahold of Xiwe and says, "I will guide those that are alive to safety. Are you sure this is what you want?"
Lucas rips off his command seal and gives it to Shelia. He proudly answers, "Make sure you get everyone to back to Xoen. I may die here against him, but a new hero will take my place."
Shelia and the few hidden eldar gather together. They quickly construct a small shuttle to take back those who are still alive. Xiwe and Kais are recovered and brought aboard the ship. Balrok changes his focus from Lucas to them. Before he can blast them away, something is wrong. He looks at his hands and sees not enough power is there.
Lucas says, "You used too much power up during your fight against us. You may have enough to kill me, but you will have to use a lot."
As the duo look upon each other, Lucas smiles with confidence. The true battle would begin between the two.
Chapter 5: Section 5 - 5
The air is quiet; there is no loud noise. Everything is a smooth sound being made as they lay in a deep sleep aboard the small shuttle. The great farseer is knocked out, but she heals slowly. There are only three humans and two tau fire warriors resting in the healing chambers. Shelia keeps everyone safe as they journey back home to Xoen in the Primarex system. They managed to escape from the planet, but they left only one man behind to face the wrath of Balrok. Despite being out-matched and fighting against a dangerous foe, he stands ready to defeat him.
Lucas says, "I may not possess the knowledge you do, but I knew you didn't have nearly enough power to destroy the small shuttle of survivors. Now, you have no one else to fight against. I hope you don't disappoint me."
Balrok smirks, "You are nothing more than a foot note before me. Sacrificing yourself will gain your allies no advantage. You will die knowing that your friends and soldiers will submit to Malice."
With quick hands, Lucas fires off a single bolter bullet. It scratches his cheek. Balrok throws a simple warp sphere at Lucas only to see him leap high into the air above it. Balrok sends another up, but the sphere disappears before his eyes. Lucas lands on the ground and charges at his target. Balrok takes his staff above his head; Lucas uses his jet pack to propel him at Balrok. Though he dodges the attack, Lucas manages to leave a second scar on his left shoulder. Balrok becomes slightly annoyed and tries to call upon more of the warp. To his surprise, nothing comes to him. Before he can anticipate the next move, Lucas collides into him with his sword stuck through his torso. In a fit of rage, Balrok manages to throw Lucas far only to see him recover.
Lucas pulls out his large combat knife and says, "You think you are all-powerful, but I see what you truly are. You truly thought this would end with you winning? You are more of a fool than I thought."
Balrok pulls out the blade from his body, "You dare mock me, foolish man?! I will destroy you both body and soul!"
Lucas watches him draw more warp power into his body, "I don't think that is enough to defeat me. You will have to make sure I am more than just ashes upon this planet."
Balrok knows that too much power taken from Xoen will mean a dangerous threat will awaken, but a small vision comes to him. On Xoen, the silent woman looks at him to see the look of worry on his face. Something is wrong and the warp is slowly drifting away from him. The unusual cold spreads from Max and goes out across the land. At the fortress, everyone feels the cold. Carl looks around to see where he is; Max is not in sight. Balrok continues to draw upon the warp until he is ready. Once he has enough, he looks upon Lucas with satisfaction.
He says, "This is the true power given to me from the great one Malice. Your fate is to die here."
Lucas marvels at the power Balrok has acquired, but he laughs at what he stands against. Balrok believes he is insane.
He says, "You are dangerous, but you just sealed your fate. If you truly wish to destroy me, you will need more power than this. Come on, Balrok. Show me the true power of Malice."
Balrok moves with speed that no eye can follow. He crushes his elbow into Lucas. The force sends him falling back and stumbling hard. All the pain from one attack leaves Lucas weak, but he stands back up. Balrok smiles a little, but he knows that more is required. Lucas charges at him with his rage unleashed. With just a swipe of his arm, Balrok easily knocks him back with little effort. During the fourth duel, Balrok doesn't put enough effort into his attack or so he thought. Lucas takes notice to how weak his last attack was.
He says, "You are growing weaker. If you don't use your full power on me, then I'll make sure your master won't like how you look afterwards."
Balrok roars in rage, "You dare make a mockery of me?!"
With no other use to hold back, Balrok pulls as much warp power into his body as possible. Lucas looks on with nerves of steel. He continues to smirk at his enemy, knowing that the worse is coming to him. On the small eldar shuttle, the eldar feel the surge of power gather into him. Shelia orders her kin to hold and endure the moment. They may be no longer on the planet, but Balrok continues to let his power manifest. The silent woman uses the little warp power she can to keep him sealed up. The seals are cracking and the warp bleeds into reality only to fade away. She is frighten and scared.
She thought, "Too much power is being taken from here. If he wakes up..."
Lucas tries to strike at his enemy, but he feels his body being held by a strong force unseen. Balrok approaches Lucas. The power of the warp is coasting through his body. He easily wiggles his finger to the left and sends Lucas crashing into the soil. Balrok laughs with ease at how strong his power is, but Lucas stands back up with rage in his eyes. He is full of fury even when he stands against a more powerful foe.
Balrok says, "You fight a pointless battle. Unlike the emperor, I will scatter your soul beyond recovery."
Lucas proudly holds his sword up, "Such is the way of a follower of chaos. You believe the lies and mislead humanity. You may kill me this day, but he will stop you and save us all once more."
Balrok keeps drawing on his power of the warp. Lucas grips his sword and activates its lighting power. Everything comes down to one final strike. Balrok takes power into his staff and advances to his opponent. He calmly walks with pride and knows that this is how a leader will die against him. No more allies. No more surprises. As Lucas brings his sword high above his head, he recalls everything that has lead him to here. The betrayal of his old squad flashes in his mind. The discovery of Saneesh and meeting with Max is amazing. He recalls seeing the amazing defiance Max shows every step of the way. As he brings his sword down for the final strike, Lucas now sees the beautiful woman he loved since the last years of their life. It has been an amazing life. It is a shame he can't hold her no more. At the War Harbinger, she looks over her last few reports and takes a moment to answer a private alert. She makes sure all the important areas of the ship are being handled by her best. The War Harbinger is in great care and nothing is being overlooked. Each tech-priest and engineer has no errors in any department.
Lina steps into the private chamber of the ship. Her legs become weak; the arms become loose. She turns off anything that will distract her as the flow of tears leak from her eyes. The device blinks slowly and flashes red. It is hard and impossible for her to believe that this is how he will be remembered. The last message she remembers is him promising to come back. The heartache is full of pain. As she picks her head up, she looks at the device flashing red. She recalls his words:
Lucas said, "If all is dark, remember to remain faithful. When you feel unable to continue, push on through the hard times."
The most memorable words Lina would always cherish: "When darkness is around you, I want you to know I love you and will do my duty for the imperium."
As the tears of sadness flow from her eyes, a new person is stun with surprise and mystery. The silent woman left for water only to return back to an empty view. The warp is completely gone and all spells are no longer in the area. There is no body, no cloth, and no piece of flesh left around to view. The silent woman is nervous and begins to look around. She sees nothing at her back. No one is around in the distant landscape. This can't be what she believes it to be. Noble One Max Johnson is gone. There is no trace of him around the area. It is too quiet.
She thought, "Where is he? Where did he go?"
Before she can guess where he is at, Max says, "I am right here."
As she turns around, the hand goes for her neck. She can't use any of her powers until she recovers. For nearly weeks to a full month and more, the silent woman used up her power to keep him locked away with her warp power. Now, she is helpless and unable to do much. To make her situation worse, the power from Balrok has return to him or disappeared from the area. Max is awake and enraged. Even though he has been away from everyone, he feels more sadness than his rage. The silent woman tries to break free only to feel his hand tighten down on her neck.
Max says, "How long have I been asleep?"
The woman replies, "It has been only a month and some weeks. Release me now."
He drops her to the ground, "You are not worth killing or harming. I know you are more than just weak. Your own power is gone and wasted away. I may have been out, but I know what your master has done to my friends...what he did to my brother was the last time I will show any mercy to you or him."
The silent woman looks up with shock in her eyes, "How do you know what has been done? You were asleep."
Max ignores her and looks to the far distant landscape. He scans the horizon and wonders where they all went to. The endless questions come to his mind. All that matters is getting back with his friends and allies. Many things need an answer and the news of certain people must be told. The silent woman slowly reaches for her knife; this would be her chance to strike him down and end his terror. Before she can grip the weapon, the cold feeling comes to her. She backs up slowly and nervous about what has been unleashed. Max uses the last of the warp to find the path he must take. Now, he sees where they are. The journey would take him only a day with the amount of warp power left within him. Max turns back to her.
He says, "Run back to Balrok and let him know that I will find him. I shall use the remains of the warp power in me to get back to my home. I am giving you safe passage until we meet again. You are to deliver him one word."
The silent woman stands nervous with her hands shaking. Max comes to her and whispers some words to her: "Soon, if not later". Once he is done, Max uses the warp power within him to move across the area. The silent woman falls to the ground breathing hard. She felt nothing from him. It was cold and hollow to be around him. The landscape is messy and orks have found multiple ways to adjust the area to their liking. Over in the west, the orks drive their vehicles around and leave tracks everywhere; in fact, they create large vehicle depos and garages to keep adding on to their carts of destruction. The east territory has orks trying to keep their body count high in the sky and able to fly as high as the orbit will let them. In the center and main camp, mobs of green muscle join together and stand ready to hear from their war chief.
The war chief says, "Oy! You'z boyz betta be ready fo da humies. Da sneaky eldar iz probably aroun' da hillz and da treez. Da gray-skin boyz ar 'ere too. So, don't mak any mo mistakes, ya gits. War Boss Tharacka left me in charge. We'z gonna win dis ere waaagh righ ere."
The orks cry, "Waaaagh!"
As loud and proud as the orks are to expect war, a strong breeze comes to them and causes many of the orks to feel uneasy. The war chief sends out some boys to search for the source, but the void feeling leaves many of them unsure. Though the orks are not afraid, they don't know if they should purse or retreat to bring more orks. Far from the ork stronghold, the void is strong and cold. Carl, Suu, Aun El Rai, Kayleth, and Veldoran look around to see which way the unknown is coming from. High above the heads of all, everyone looks up to see a small eldar shuttle come landing within the war camp. Carl, Suu, and Kayleth go to welcome the new faces only to find Shelia helping Shas'O Kais from the ship. His suit is in need of repairs and much is to be told. Before any can ask what happen, Xiwe steps forward with a serious look on her face.
She says, "The danger is here. We must be ready for what is coming. The orks will be easy to deal with once we arrive at their base. Our time can't be wasted any more."
The void feeling goes over the landscape once more. To the eldar of Ctho, it is a sign of danger that will fall upon them. To the tau, this is surprise for them. Only to a handful do they know what this means and what is coming soon.
