He didn't know how long it had been since he had found that car, maybe two, three days, he had lost track of time since the apocalypse began, now, nothing was but "days" and "nights" to him, no specific date, no birthday, no holidays, nothing.

Something so trivial, but that Lee regretted not keeping records of the days past, one more thing from his past life that he couldn't keep.

All he had was the idea that three months had passed since it all began, that was all, he didn't know how many days exactly, it was as if he, like his broken watch, had stopped in time, just watching the sun rise and set.

However, in these last few days, he managed to find enough supplies for two people, even more, one of them being a child.

Due to the shooting at the motel, most of the walkers that were staying at the military base, were drawn towards him, as a result, the place had become almost empty, compared to the amount of walkers that were there since the last time he visited the place.

And he managed to pick up quite a bit, food, ammo, another pistol, a knife, medicine, bags, various useful things, and he thanked God for the find, just as he had thought a few days ago, things were about to get better, both for him and for the girl in his care.

Because of the ammo and his newest firearm, Lee decided to teach Clementine to shoot first, then he would teach her to deal with walkers in a quieter way, but for now, that would do.

At the moment he was looking at the three glass bottles he had positioned a few meters away, making sure he had left them at a good distance from the girl. They would serve as targets, the girl's first training with firearms, this was definitely something he never thought he would do, even more so with such a young girl.

- First thing Clem, this is just an object, it won't hurt you, it won't hurt anyone, unless you do something about it.

He explained, handing the pistol into the small hands of the girl, who looked at the weapon with some hesitation, paying attention to what Lee was saying.

- It's heavy.

She said, swinging the gun with both hands, causing Lee to give a low laugh at the tone she used. He then puts a hand on Clementine's shoulder and forces it a little to the side, making her turn her back to him.

- You'll get used to it. This is the safety catch.

He pointed, and the girl followed his finger with her gaze, turning the gun a little to get a better view.

Lee - Now, it is unlocked, whenever it is like this, you have to be sure you want to hurt someone, or want to kill some corpse out there, you aim following this point here... - He pointed again, raising the girl's arms with both hands, and adjusting her pose, she felt a little strange when doing that.

She even felt a little excited...? In her mind, she was going to become a stronger person, just like Lee, and would be able to defend herself, without needing him to make so many efforts for her, and this made her anxious, excited, and a little nervous.

- Don't lock your elbows, the kick is a little strong for your size. Okay, now aim a little more to the left.

He instructed, supporting her arms and helping her to aim, and as soon as he realized that she was aiming correctly, he retreated two steps to the side, watching her with attentive eyes.

- Before you shoot, hold your breath, it will make your aim more accurately. And as soon as you feel ready, pull the trigger.

He said, and Clementine quickly did so. The noise of the gunshot echoed through the trees of the forest, making it difficult for any walker to find the source of the noise. Along with the gunshot, a surprised squeal from Clementine echoed through Lee's ears, who almost laughed as he heard it, and saw the scene of the girl with her shoulders shrugged and her eyes closed tightly.

However, despite the broken pose, and the small steps she took backwards, Clementine hit her target, the bottle broke into hundreds of pieces, and Lee looked at her surprised, a beautiful shot, for her first time.

- Nice shot.

He congratulated, and only then the girl realized that she had hit the target, and the fear she felt inside was replaced by excitement, and she turned to Lee with a happy smile on her face.

- I did as you said, I held my breath and the gun didn't shake much!

she exclaimed excitedly, aiming the gun back at the bottles almost immediately afterwards. Lee gave a sideways smile at the girl's animation, feeling his chest heat up at the sight of the little girl's smile.

- Don't lock elbows.

He reminded, straightening Clementine's arms a little, and adjusting his aim. A moment later, another shot echoed through the forest, and another glass bottle shattered on contact with the bullet.

Lee looked at her surprised, she was a fast learner, hmpf, maybe he shouldn't be so surprised, she was a smart girl, she had proved it countless times during those months.

And for the last one, another gunshot echoed through the trees, and the last glass bottle broke into hundreds of pieces, all scattering across the forest floor.

Clementine had a bright look on her face, almost proud, perhaps an accomplished one, but Lee didn't care much about that, his eyes were just admiring the small smile she had on her face and the light features spreading across her face.

- It's not that hard. But my hands hurt a little.

She said, lowering the gun and turning to Lee, watching the smile on her lips widen, and he crouched to her height.

- You will get used to it. Remember Clem, always aim for the head, moving targets are much harder, it's something completely different, but keep that in mind, and you'll be fine.

He explained, watching the girl's golden eyes stare intently into his brown eyes, absorbing all the words he had said, and receiving a nod in response.

-What if it's a person?

she asked, so naturally, and so neutrally, that Lee was surprised; until a few days ago, she was nervous at the mere thought of him killing someone.

- You can deal with walkers, I will deal with people.

He said in a serious tone, placing his hands on Clementine's shoulders, who didn't look away from him, looking at him intensely.

- Okay, but what if you can't, like a few days ago, there were three of them against you, and I know you managed to kill them, but if I had a gun at the time I could have helped you, what if it happens again?

Her question made sense, and Lee knew it, but it just didn't seem right for her to talk like that, to think about it, it was too soon and he was already doing much more than he wanted to by teaching her to shoot, even though he knew it was necessary.

- Clem, the feeling of shooting a person, is completely different from the feeling of shooting a walker, the feeling you get after taking someone's life, is a very heavy burden, a burden that I don't want you to carry so soon.

They were serious, and true words, for he dealt with this burden every day. He always saw the eyes of the people he killed, or left for dead, and what was worse, was that many of those eyes, he didn't even see when he took the life out of them, the eyes of the bandits he shot walked around in his dreams, making them nightmares.

And he never saw these eyes this close, but they always stubbornly appeared in his dreams.

It was horrible, even though he knew he had done it to protect himself, to protect what was important to him, he couldn't help but feel haunted by the souls he had taken.

The gleam in Clementine's eyes seemed to grow stronger, and it seemed that the girl was looking deep into his soul. A gaze so intense that he wondered if she was really just a child, she certainly didn't look like one.

And after a few moments of silence, she nodded.

- Okay.

" No, it's not ok." Lee thought as he heard the girl's simple answer, he didn't know why, he didn't know how, but he felt that she hadn't accepted that idea 100%.

But he just sighed, maybe it was just something in his head, maybe he was just tired. He then stood up, watching as the girl held the gun out to him.

- No, you can have this one.

The girl widened her eyes for a few moments, lowering her gaze to the object in her hands, hesitating for a few seconds, but lowering the gun and activating the safety lock, still looking a bit lost at the gun in her hands.

- Here, put it around your waist.

In this time, he had managed to find some new clothes for both of them, Clementine, despite being a very "girly" girl and protesting that she couldn't wear her dresses, was wearing blue jeans and a pink blouse, with some white details spread along its length.

Lee fixed the gun on her small waist, it was even a little comical to see, since the girl was small, and the gun in her possession seemed to be bigger than it really was.

- What if I run out of ammo? And you're not around, or I can't get to you?

She asked just after Lee finished setting up the gun and stood up. His golden eyes followed carefully every move made by the man in front of her.

Lee sighed, even though they were completely valid and intelligent questions, since she was concerned about her safety, he still found them incredibly difficult to answer, which was odd, since the questions were actually quite simple.

If they were asked by someone older.

- Well, this is the second part of our lesson today, I will teach you how to handle a knife, I would give you the machete, but it is too big for you, a knife is something simpler, and easier to handle for someone your size.

He picked up the knife he had found at the military base, it was of medium size, the top of its blade was serrated, making the sunlight shine off the silver details at the ends of the black blade. (Rambo)

- Being small is not very nice.

she complained, rolling her eyes and making a frown. Lee laughed at her reaction, recording that perfect face in his mind, before extending the knife toward the girl.

-why do you think that?

he asked, crouching down at the girl's height as she ran her eyes over the blade in his hands. Even she had to admit that the knife was beautiful.

- It seems to make everything a little more difficult.

She replied, taking her eyes off the knife and staring into the brown eyes of Lee, who had a half smile on his face.

- Do you see that small opening in the stone up ahead?

he asked, pointing in a random direction. Clementine was a little confused by the sudden question, but looked where he was pointing, focusing her eyes on the small opening in the stone. Answering Lee with a nod.

- Do you think a walker could pass through there? Or a man my size?

The girl turned her gaze to the opening, looking a little thoughtful.

- No.

She turned her eyes to his, who seemed satisfied with her answer.

- Exactly. I can't get through that opening, but you can.

He explained, watching with some amusement as the girl arched her eyebrows in understanding.

- Being small doesn't matter at all Clem, you have your advantages, just as I have mine, it doesn't matter if you are facing a group of walkers, or a group of people, if you use and abuse of your advantages, you will be fine, just be smart.

Clementine stared at him for a while, that intense gaze had returned to the gold in her eyes, and once again, they seemed to glow as she digested his words, and a gleam of understanding flashed in her eyes.

- Now, in case there is no place for you to crawl, or no way to get away from a walker, what do you need to do?

He asked, drawing the girl's attention and curiosity to himself, as he stood up and straightened his posture.

- Kill it?

She turned her head as she answered, still a bit confused, but relieved to see Lee give a small smile.

- Yes, and how do you kill a walker? - He asked.

- By destroying the brain.

It felt like a class, the girl felt like she was back in school, differently, and much more hectic than conventional, but the basis was the same, the teacher asked questions, she answered, the teacher taught, she learned.

- Now, you are small, how are you going to destroy the brain of a walker my height, for example?

Clementine looked down for a few seconds, then turned her gaze upwards, as if measuring Lee's height. He was much taller than she was, to the point that she had to lift her neck almost all the way up to look him in the eye from that distance.

- I don't know.

She replied defeated, after spending a few seconds thinking of an answer, which did not come to her mind.

- You knock him down, so his head will be in your grasp. How do you do that? How would you knock me down?

Clementine had her eyes fixed on Lee's face, listening carefully to his words, it was almost amazing to the girl how much Lee seemed to know about things, and she was happy to be able to be as smart as he was.

- I... stab you in the leg?

She answered/asked, unsure of what to say, as her mind worked a thousand miles processing the information she had acquired.

- Yes, my legs are the weakest points you can hit to knock me down, same thing with walkers, except they will fall easier. Try to attack their knee, either with your knife, or a piece of iron, whatever, but if you run out of ammo and have to resort to a closer approach, try to take him down.

He explained, and the girl nodded in understanding. But, another doubt hovered in Clementine's mind.

-... What if it's a person? I know you're going to kill them, but, what if I have to kill them too?

Lee felt his body lock up at the question, again, the girl's tone was so neutral, so matter-of-fact, that it startled him a little, but then again, the events that had unfolded in these months had changed her, more than she let on.

Lee sighed, understanding this change in the girl.

- Clementine, don't think of "killing" so lightly, killing is bad, no matter the reason.

He said in a serious way, but not scolding her.

- But you do it to protect yourself, and to protect me.

- I do it because it's necessary, but I don't feel good doing it. That doesn't make it right.

Those words stuck deep in Clementine's mind, who still kept her gaze intense.

-... But what if I have to do it too?

- Clem...

he began, the heavy tone flooding his voice. Clementine knew what he was thinking, and interrupted him.

- I know you said you would take care of people, but what if you can't? Like when St. John's pulled my hair, if I had been able to defend myself, I know you and Kenny would have killed them.

Her neutral tone penetrated Lee's ears and dominated his mind, it even seemed that the girl had gotten used to the idea of "killing", to Lee's dismay.

He felt as if he owed her an answer, he didn't know why, but he couldn't lie to her, couldn't hide anything from her, because her golden eyes always stared at him so intensely, they seemed to look into his soul, watching all his secrets, seeing all the sins hidden within.

-... You already know how to take them down, and humans don't necessarily have to be hit in the head to die.

He was teaching her how to kill.

Even he didn't believe that, and he felt bitter for doing such a thing.

- Behind the knee is a great place to take someone down, attack their vital points, here...

He placed his finger below Clementine's shoulder, pinching a specific spot.

- If you are attacked, and if you can, stab your attacker here, and that will stop a lot of movement of his shoulder, cut along his biceps, that will stop a lot of movement of his arm...

He continued explaining to the girl, trying to ignore her intense, glowing gaze, and mentally scolding himself for doing something like that.

But a small part of him knew it was necessary.

Clementine's mind was flooded with more and more information, and she was surprised to see how easy it was to hurt someone, and how easy it was to take a life. She didn't know whether to be afraid, or happy about something like that.

Lee continued to teach her a few things, until the sound of a car, or a truck, was heard passing on the road not far away.
