(summer) Fire flicks on their bare skin. The smell of alcohol fills the air. She yawns, a slim hand over her pretty mouth. Skin touches skin. Her eyes are close as she listens to him inhale and exhale. A fumble for the ashtray is made. His cigarette is stabbed out with smoke curling around the tray. He kisses her, fast and hard while his fingers press against her hips. They pull away and his fingers are still tangled in her hair. The stereo is turned on. She feels his arms wrap around her when she closes her eyes. A fleeting thought of bliss crosses her mind before the lull of sleep drowns her.

(marissa) The sound of her adolescent years whooshes past her. Sun hits her skin and it feels like she's burning up in flames. She is sitting on the edge of the pool, feet dipped into the clear water. The tequila swishes around violently against the bottle. It is heavy and thick on her tongue, the bitter aftertaste in her mouth. A perfect dive is made into the water. She's floating, floating and everything slowly disappears.

(ryan) Marissa lies on his bed, her long legs stretched out. Her hands run into her hair, over and over again. He stands against the doorway, eyes fixated on her. A kiss is placed on his lips but before he can grasp her, there is nothing but air left. A lingering scent. Dead dreams. Broken promises. She can't be saved. The first sting of tears starts coming.

(seth) Her funeral is a white affair. Everything is laced in white. Virginal and pure. The material of his suit, starchy and stiff, rubs against his skin. Marissa's mom is perched up on the front, tears streaming down her face. Poor Julie, everybody whispers. He goes up to the casket at the end of the funeral. She is donning a white dress, much like the funeral itself. Her hair is a halo around her and she is never more perfect.

(summer) She rubs her eyes, tear stains imprinted on her cheeks. Waves crash against the ocean quietly. Footsteps are crunched into the sand. He wraps his arms around her, stroking her hair as he has done previously. Her head is on his shoulder, her dark hair intertwining with his blond. Their embrace is broken and she is mumbling an excuse. I have to go, I'm sorry. Her words trip over her apology. She runs away before she can feel his disappointment. His sadness.

(seth) Whispers of condolences, regret mixed with sadness is made to her. He kisses her, softly and gently. It's going to be okay. It's going to be okay. Echoes of fading smiles and dreams reach their ears. She shivers involuntarily. His arms envelop her body in a hug. Promising everything to her. His hands are laced together with hers and she never felt more safe.
