Chapter 6
The next few days thankfully passed without incident and Loid got word that things had settled down. Still, he decided he would drive Anya to school the next morning. He was currently working on a few files before he closed up his laptop and stood up just in time for Anya to come in and she grinned up at him. "Daddy! Look what I found!" She said, holding something in her hand.
He smiled and kneeled down, to which she showed him a flower that was really pretty. "That is a pretty flower, sweetie," he said, noticing the flower was pink with a purple hue. It looked very lovely.
Anya giggled. "Daddy, do you think I'll be pretty like this flower one day?" She asked.
"You're already pretty like this flower, sweetheart," he said. "My beautiful little girl."
Loid scooped his daughter up and lifted her over his head, making her giggle and laugh as he then playfully spun around, spinning her with him and Anya laughed happily.
Yor grew curious and followed Anya's laughter, pausing and smiling when she saw her husband spinning their daughter around and the little girl was happy. Loid soon came to a stop and held his daughter in a hug as she continued to giggle before she saw her mother. "Mommy!" She said happily, reaching for her.
Loid looked at his wife and felt playful, holding Anya in a secure hold as he playfully let out a growl. "You shall not take my treasure from me, traveler," he said in a playful voice.
The little girl squealed happily as she squirmed, but her father made sure that she didn't fall out of his arms as he held her and the little girl continued giggling, knowing her father was just being playful.
Yor smiled and looked at Loid with a playful gleam in her eyes. "Oh, but I have come far for this treasure, good sir," she said. "And I plan on taking it."
Anya squealed as her father lifted her up and began to 'run' around the room. "You shall never have her!" He said, putting on his best monster voice. "She's mine!"
As he was saying this, he was careful to make sure Anya didn't get hurt and was holding her protectively. Of course, he didn't know that Anya could tell he was only pretending, but she loved that he and her mother were playing pretend with her. She giggled before reaching for her mother.
"Save me! Save me from this treasure monster!" The child cried out dramatically.
"Never fear, child! I shall save you!" Yor said dramatically as she 'charged' at the 'monster'. "Unhand her, monster!"
"Never!" He declared as he took off down the hall with Anya squealing with laughter while Yor gave chase, having a very difficult time holding in her laughter at how silly her husband was being.
"I'm coming for you, Monster!" The woman called out, failing to keep the smile off her face. "I'll defeat you!"
"You will not succeed, Hunter!" The man called back, also smiling. Loid then set Anya down. "Sweetie, hide here," he said, gesturing to behind a nearby chair, to which the little one did as she was told, trying to keep her giggles down as her father smirked and got ready to catch Yor off guard.
The young woman entered the room, but didn't see her husband or daughter. "Hmm, where could the monster be?" She asked aloud.
Anya managed to hide her giggles while Loid managed to sneak up behind Yor, who heard him a moment before and waited, but when he didn't do anything, she turned and gasped in surprise as Loid caught her and lifted her up before spinning and they landed on the couch, to which Loid landed first so that his wife wouldn't be hurt and he held her close before kissing her face repeatedly, making her laugh as his five o'clock shadow tickled her face and jaw as he kept up the playful attack.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HONEY! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" She laughed.
"Arr! Now I've got two treasures to keep!" Loid said playfully in his 'monster' voice. "And what a pretty treasure this one is. As pretty as my other treasure."
Anya couldn't help the giggles that escaped her now, coming out to see her mother was trying to escape, but laughing too hard to do much while Loid was hugging his wife before the two of them began to try and calm down. Yor stood up and as soon as Loid sat down properly on the couch, she sat down beside him and Anya joined them, giggling again.
"You're funny, Daddy. You too, Mommy," the little girl said.
"Just one part of being a Mommy and a Daddy, sweetheart," Yor said with a smile.
"Your mother's right," Loid said as he tickled his daughter's neck playfully to make her giggle. "I could never get tired of hearing that sweet laughter."
"It truly brightens our day," his wife said with a smile.
It was later on that afternoon that Loid decided to fire up the grill and cook dinner outside. Yor smiled and brought out a potato salad she had made. "How is the steak doing, my love?" She asked.
"It's cooking nicely," he replied. "Anya's been making sure the lawn chairs and table are all clean."
Just as he said that, a spray of water hit his arm. "Oops! Sorry, Daddy!" Anya said apologetically as she now aimed the hose at the outdoor table and chairs, spraying them down with the water to clean them.
Yor chuckled and Loid smiled. "Guess I forgot to tell her the water was on," he admitted.
"I'll grab a towel to dry off the table and chairs after Anya is finished washing them off," his wife said as she breathed in the evening air. "It's been very peaceful lately. We should do some more nights like this before winter sets in and it gets too cold to do outdoor cooking and enjoying the warm nights."
"I agree," he said, tending to the grill.
Soon, they were enjoying a nice meal while some cars went by. Loid kept his ears open, but was glad when the cars simply had either their neighbors or some passing motorists. Just because his superiors said that things had settled down, he wasn't going to be lax on making sure his wife and daughter were safe and sound.
"Honey?" Yor asked, realizing her husband seemed a bit tense. "Are you okay?"
"Yes, Dear," he said, smiling at her and kissing her, to which she smiled and kissed him back.
Anya giggled before a yawn overtook her and she sat back in her chair, full from dinner. "That was yummy," she said.
"You cleaned your plate, sweetie?" Yor asked, smiling.
"Yes, Mommy," the little girl said before yawning again.
Loid chuckled. "I think someone might be a bit too tired for dessert," he said.
Anya perked up a bit. "Nuh-uh! I love dessert!" She said.
Yor chuckled. "Well, it just so happens I have vanilla/strawberry cake with buttercream frosting sitting on the kitchen counter," she said. "You two wait here and I'll go get it for us to enjoy."
Anya cheered and Loid smiled at his wife as she went inside the house and he again looked around to make sure they were safe. When he saw they were, he did breathe a small sigh of relief, but still kept alert.
"Wow!" Anya said, making her father turn to see that Yor was coming out with a double-layer cake and he smiled.
"I agree with Anya. That does look good, my love," he said.
His wife smiled. "I thought you'd both like this surprise," she said.
The cake was cut and they were all relaxing and enjoying it. Anya's head began to nod not long after she finished her piece of cake and she closed her eyes, sleep starting to overtake her. Loid smiled at seeing this and picked up his daughter, who snuggled into his arms trustingly as Yor picked up the dishes and the rest of the cake and brought them inside, locking the door and turning off the outside light she had turned on earlier as dusk had been settling in.
Anya was soon tucked safely in bed and Loid checked the house before going over to his wife in the kitchen and hugging her from behind. She smiled and turned her head to give him a kiss. "Is everything really alright, Honey? You were acting like something was going to attack us," she said in worry.
He smiled at her reassuringly. "Just wanted to make sure my beautiful wife and little girl are safe," he said. "Oh and is it okay if I take Anya to school tomorrow?"
"I was actually about to ask if you would be able to, since my boss scheduled a meeting around the time school starts," Yor said.
"Of course, my love," he said, kissing her again and she melted into his arms while Anya slept peacefully in her room and Loid felt so fortunate to have both his wife and daughter in his life.
More fluff! :)
