Chapter 9
Loid was sleeping in as Yor had to go to an early meeting at work and Anya was home from school as it was a meeting day for the teachers, so the kids had no school. The house was calm and Loid was resting peacefully until he heard the bedroom door open and small feet padded in, trying to be quiet.
Anya went up to her father's side of the bed. "Daddy! Daddy!" She whisper-yelled.
Loid smiled to himself and turned over to his other side so that his back was facing his daughter. He heard Anya huff before feeling a hand lightly push his shoulder.
"Daddy!" She whisper-yelled again, a giggle escaping her as her father didn't move, but she knew he was messing with her. She climbed up on the bed and went up near his face. "Daddy," she said, lightly patting his face.
He managed to keep a straight face as he moved again, turning to his other side and chuckling lightly, which his daughter heard and she gave an annoyed huff. "Daddy! I know you're awake!" She said in frustration. "Come on!"
Loid continued to 'pretend' to be asleep, but he jumped when he felt his daughter poke his side and underarm. He sat upright quickly then, making the little girl laugh and giggle. "I knew it!" She said, giggling still. "I knew you were awake!"
"Oh, you did, did you?" He asked his little girl before scooping her up into his arms. "Come here, you!"
Anya shrieked with giggles as her father scooped her up and she squirmed to get free, but her father had her and he tickled her sides, making her squeal before he blew a raspberry into her neck, making her laugh.
"DAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHADDY!" She laughed out.
"Who is my little sunshine?" He asked as he let her up before holding her protectively in a hug. "Who is the cutest little girl in the world?"
Anya smiled and snuggled into her father's hug. "Where's Mommy?" She asked.
"Mommy had a meeting today, so she'll be home later," Loid said. "And since you have no school today and I have no work, we're going to have a father-daughter day."
The little girl was happy because they didn't get to have too many father-daughter days, so she was eager to start the day. "Where are we going, Daddy?" She asked.
"Well, after we get dressed, we're going to go get breakfast," he said. "Perhaps some pancakes with chocolate chips?"
Anya perked up and scampered off to get dressed and Loid got into some casual clothing too, ready to enjoy the day. Because he worked so much, he didn't get to spend a lot of time with Anya and he felt a bit guilty about that, so he decided that he'd make up for the times he couldn't be there.
"I'm ready, Daddy!" Anya said, coming out and wearing her usual dress, but the ribbons in her hair were a bit crooked.
Chuckling, Loid gently straightened the ribbons, making the bows that Anya had chosen to wear that day a bit neater. "There you go, sweetheart," he said. "Now you're ready."
"I'm hungry, Daddy! Let's go eat!" Anya said excitedly as she jumped around.
Smiling, Loid scooped up his daughter as she jumped again and she squealed happily as he swung her up into a hug. "I'm hungry too," he said as he headed out the door, walking down the way until they reached the restaurant. Upon entering, they were greeting by a waitress who knew them.
"Ah, Loid! Welcome!" She said with a smile. "Table for three?"
"Two this time, Rita," he said. "My wife had a meeting today, so it's just me and my daughter today."
"Alright," she said, leading them to a table. "We've got a special with kids eating free today and the coffee is fresh."
"Thank you," Loid said. "And in that case, we'll take the blueberry pancake breakfast plate for my little girl and I'll take the breakfast scramble with sausage and some coffee."
The waitress took the order to the kitchen and Anya set to work on coloring the placemat that had been placed in front of her, the picture to be colored in being one of a child flying a kite with her parents watching. "Daddy? Do you think I could fly a kite someday?" She asked.
"When you're a bit older, yes," he said with a smile, seeing that his idea to get her a kite for her birthday would most likely be the best gift for the little girl.
The delicious breakfast came and they enjoyed it immensely. Anya smiled as she finished her plate and her father paid the bill. As they were walking down the street where shops were, Anya paused as she saw some very pretty flowers that reminded her of her mother. "Daddy, can we get Mommy some flowers?" She asked.
"That's a wonderful idea, sweetie," he said. "What kind of flowers should we get?"
The little girl pointed to some flowers and Loid picked a few, to which the florist bundled the flowers together in a beautiful bouquet, which Loid accepted and paid for while the florist gave Anya a free flower and the little girl was delighted. "Thank you!" She said happily as she carried her flower proudly and her father smiled as they stopped at a few more shops.
Loid purchased some new shoes for himself, Yor, and Anya and the store owner promised they'd be delivered quickly and Anya spotted a toy shop and looked longingly at a kite in the window. The shop keeper came out and smiled. "You like kites?" He asked.
"Yes," the little girl said. "I want to fly one someday."
"I'm sure you will," the owner said, winking at Loid, who winked back as Anya's father had been in discussion with the shop owner about getting a custom-made kite for the little girl.
Anya was happy as they finished up shopping and had lunch, stopping by the best sandwich shop and Anya asked for her favorite sandwich, enjoying her meal before she saw the spaceship ride and her eyes lit up. "Daddy, can I ride in the spaceship?" She asked.
"Sure, honey," he said as they went over to it and he helped her up into it, placing the required money in the slot and Anya giggled as she pretended she was truly blasting off into space. Other patrons saw this and smiled at the cute scene of a father and daughter.
It was late afternoon by the time they got back home and they found Yor waiting for them at the door. "There you two are," she said, smiling. "I come home to find new shoes at the door, but my darling husband and adorable daughter are nowhere in the house."
"Sorry, my love," Loid said. "Anya and I had a father-daughter day and I knew you were in a meeting, so I didn't want to disturb you."
She smiled. "Alright. By the way, thank you for the new shoes. My boss announced that he wants me to go on a business trip for a few days and my new shoes will go perfectly with my new dress that I found the other day in my closet."
She gave him a look and he smiled. "I hope I got your size right, my love," he said.
Yor giggled. "Yes, you got it exactly right," she said, giving him a kiss as Anya giggled happily.
"We got you flowers too, Mommy!" She said happily. "And they look like you!"
"They do?" The woman asked curiously.
Loid presented her with the flowers and she gasped as she noticed the colors did match her in a way, which was what her daughter meant that the flowers looked like her. "They do look like you," he said. "Beautiful and stunning."
Yor smiled and kissed him again. "Let's go out for dinner," she said. "My treat, since you got breakfast and lunch."
He smiled at her as they headed to their favorite restaurant for dinner and Anya smiled, happy as she thought about the day and how much fun it had been to spend time with her daddy.
To her, her parents were the best in the world.
