After a while, Clementine finally calmed down. She slowly broke the embrace and dried the tears from her face with the back of her hand.

It had been a long time since she had cried like that, and she felt a little relieved to have released the frustration that had been stuck in her chest for so long.

The only bad thing was that the bad feeling hadn't left her body, it had just become a little lighter, as if she had gotten used to it.

Clementine- ... I'm sorry...

She said softly, looking at Kenny after she had wiped her face.

Kenny- Don't worry about it, it's good to release that frustration from time to time, or it might end up blowing up in your chest. That probably would have happened to me by now if it wasn't for Sarita.

He turned his face toward the woman, who looked at him kindly.

A small smile broke out on his lips.

Clementine-... Where have you been? I mean, what happened to you? Crista said you were right behind them.

He turned his gaze back to the girl, a little reluctant to say anything.

Kenny-...I...well, after Lee freed us, I didn't think it was right to just leave him there alone. I tried to reach him, but the place filled up with walkers too fast, chaos and despair went hand in hand with the remaining people.

He paused for a while, enigmatic. Clementine couldn't understand what was going on in Kenny's neutral eyes, too many different feelings conflicting in that brown vastness.

Kenny-... In short, I was lucky, very we... I left Savannah, I walked alone for a long time, looking for you guys, for Duck. Until I found Sarita... I would be dead if it wasn't for her.

He said half nostalgically, without looking at Clementine, focusing his eyes on the ground.

The girl was staring at him intently.

"... We...?" - She thought, realizing that Kenny cut off his own sentence by saying "we".

The man then looked at her, fearful and a little scared, which made Clementine arch an eyebrow.

Kenny-... I... I kind of expected to see Duck with you... He...?

Clementine- He's alive.

She said, and Kenny's eyes widened and he sighed with relief, leaning his elbows on his knees and bowing his head as a small smile broke out on his lips.

Kenny- Thank God... but why aren't you together? Crista? Omid?

Clementine- We were attacked by a group, I don't know if it was bandits or not. We got separated, me and Duck managed to escape, but I don't know about the others, they might have been captured, killed, maybe.

She looked at him, staring at the worry running down the man's eyes.

Clementine- Duck can take care of himself, if I am alive, he certainly is. We were on our way to Wellington before we split up, so I hope to meet him on the way, or hope he's already there, if there is such a place.

She propped her back on the sofa, staring into the fireplace ahead, allowing herself to be consumed by the flames.

- Are you two catching up?

A female voice caught Clementine's attention and she turned her head to the side, watching the woman who was hugging Kenny by the neck and resting her chin on his head.

Kenny- Clem, this is Sarita. Like I said, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her.

Sarita- Nice to meet you Clementine.

Clementine nodded to the woman.

Walter- I'm going to start making dinner, Matt, can you give me a hand?

Walter's voice caught Clementine's attention and she looked at the several cans of beans and peaches on the table in front of them.

Sarita chatted with Carlos for a few moments, then she and Sarah walked off in some random direction.

Luke- Is there anything we can do to help?

The young man asked, coming down the stairs and walking towards Kenny with Nick by his side.

Kenny- I could use a hand outside. We have a bunch of supplies we need to bring inside before this storm hits.

Luke nodded, walking toward the door.

Kenny- Make yourself at home Clem, the folks are nice, if you need anything you can ask Walter.

Getting up, he walked out of the inn.

Clementine gave a slight sigh and looked around, she wasn't in the mood to make any new friends, but it would be nice to distract herself for a while.

She stood up and walked around the inn, looking for something that caught her attention.

Walter- Hey Clementine, settling in okay?

The man called her attention, and the girl walked towards him.

Clementine - Yes, thank you.

Matthew: So, it must be really nice to be reunited with Kenny, huh? I mean, what are the chances?

he asked, leaning on the table next to Walter.

Clementine- Yeah, in a way, yes.

Walter-How did you meet? He doesn't tell us much, just random bits and pieces.

Clementine- After everything happened...let's just say we're old "friends".

Matthew- Oh, when he was with Lee? Yeah, well, like Walter said, he doesn't talk much about the past.

Clementine bowed her head and squeezed her eyes shut.

Clementine- What did he say to you?

Walter- Not much, about how he and Lee were going out to get supplies for the group, something about facing a family of cannibals, I think.

Matthew- Is that true? You were trapped in a meat locker by cannibals?

The girl looked at him, remembering the St. John's again, nodding slowly at the man.

Matthew- Creepy.

Walker- Oh, and there was that time he and Lee searched an abandoned airport. But he never told the details much.

He said, and Clementine looked at him in confusion. Their thoughts were interrupted by a low whistle.

Matthew- We're almost done with dinner Clem, make yourself at home.

He said with a friendly smile, picking up a pan and walking to some random place, accompanied by Walter who was waving to the girl.

Clementine looked down at the floor, putting her hands in her pockets.

"... They've never been in an airport... Did Lee forget to tell me that?" - She thought, remembering that Lee always told her about his day every time he went out in search of supplies.

However, she pushed those thoughts aside.

"I wouldn't blame him, there were days he would arrive exhausted."

The girl wandered around the inn for a while, until her eyes focused on Carlos, who was propped against the banister upstairs.

She climbed the stairs and approached him, ignoring Rebecca and Alvin.

Carlos-What is it, Clem?

He asked, confused by the girl staring at him.

Clementine- This might just be in my head, but I swore I saw a light just before we came in, coming from the forest.

Carlos uncrossed his arms and straightened his posture, still looking at her.

Alvin- Are you sure?

Clementine - Not completely, but Nick said that you have been running from Carver for some time, if he is right behind us, then we should leave as soon as possible.

Rebecca- The hell we will!

She said in her typical annoyed tone, which Clementine once again just ignored.

Carlos- We can't go out at night without at least knowing that what you saw was true, it might have just been a trick of the light, since the sun was still setting.

Clementine - The problem is, what if it isn't? This place seems to be pretty safe from walkers, but not from humans, we don't even know how many are still after us. It would be good to at least have someone watching the road we came down.

Rebecca- You're going crazy if you think I'm going back out there tonight.

Carlos crossed his arms again and put his hand thoughtfully on his chin.

Carlos- Where is Luke?

Clementine-Helping Kenny outside.

Carlos- I'll go talk to him. Clementine has a point, better safe than sorry.

He said, coming down the stairs shortly after.

Rebecca- Honey, I don't feel so good.

The woman said after a while, and Alvin looked at her worriedly, crouching down beside her.

Alvin - What's wrong?

Rebecca - I just need something to drink.

Alvin - Okay, I'll be right back.

He got up and went downstairs.

Clementine looked at Alvin's back for a few moments, then she looked at Rebecca, who had her head down.

Clementine- So, what's your problem with me?

The girl asked suddenly, crossing her arms and leaning on the railing in the same place Carlos had been standing before.

The woman raised her head in surprise, and unlike the angry expression Clementine had expected to see, Rebecca just looked at her tiredly.

Rebecca- I... I don't know, to be honest... I'm just stressed, and I keep looking for something to relieve the stress.

She said quietly, and for the first time since Clementine heard her speak, she said it in a calm tone.

Clementine- So you chose me, who apparently is the easiest person to vent your anger on?

Rebecca looked at her again, sighing.

Rebecca- Yes... sort of.

Clementine - Look, Rebecca, I don't care if you don't like me, but you have to stop yelling at me whenever you feel like it. We don't have to be friends, but at least try to be more civil.

The girl uncrossed her arms, looking at Kenny through the window, following him with her eyes as he walked toward the door.

Rebecca- I know, I'm just... I'm sorry.

Walter- Okay guys, dinner's ready!

Walter's voice echoed loudly through the room, and Clementine went downstairs, passing Alvin who was holding a bottle of water in his hands.

Alvin- Thanks for keeping her company Clem.

She turned around, waving to him.

Clementine walked over to the table where Kenny was sitting next to Sarita, watching Matthew place a full bowl in front of her.

Kenny- So Clem, do you... trust these people? Luke seems cool, Nick has a stronger temper.

He asked softly, looking at Luke, who had his back to them.

Clementine- I wouldn't say I trust them, they helped me...

She lifted her cap a little and turned her head, pointing to the scar on her temple.

Clementine- They are decent people, they just have problems...

Sarita- They seem like nice people.

Kenny- It takes time to get to know a man, damn, I'm still trying to figure out who I am...that guy, "big Al"? He said they were running from someone.

Clementine- Some people are after them.

Walter looked at her for a while, and Kenny looked a little worried.

Kenny- Well, you don't have to worry about that anymore, you can stay here for now... if you want... We are planning to leave for Wellington soon.

The girl bowed her head thoughtfully.

Clementine- I don't know Kenny... The people who are after them are dangerous, I would accept that, but they have seen me, they probably think I am with them.

She raised her head, meeting Kenny's curious gaze.

Kenny-... What did they do to get chased?

Clementine- From what I've been told, they ran away from a sick psychopath's camp, he didn't like that and wants them back, they've been on the run for a while.

She said, finishing eating and putting the bowl away a little. She looked at Walter, who took the object and stood up, giving her a gentle smile.

Clementine - Thank you.

Walter- You're welcome honey.

He turned away, walking calmly in a random direction.

Kenny- Well, we can discuss this in the morning, for today, you and your group need to rest.

Clementine looked at him once more, unsure if she should say that she saw a light in the forest, and that she thought they were closer than the others thought.

But she shook her head, pushing those thoughts away, she wasn't sure what she saw, and as Carlos had said, it could have just been a trick of light due to the setting sun.

Clementine nodded to him and stood up, walking somewhere random, watching Luke and Nick sit at the table and talk to Kenny.

Walter- Hey Clem, could you give me a hand outside?

She looked at the man and nodded, walking him out of the inn.

Walter- So... chased by a maniac huh? Kenny said he had encountered some maniacs in the past, and had been through some pretty... unpleasant situations. It must be hard for you, a child in the middle of all this.

He said as they walked calmly around the inn.

The girl looked at him, a little annoyed at being called a "child".

Clementine- I've gotten used to it... just like Kenny, I've also encountered some "psychopaths" in the past.

She said neutrally, making Walter look at her a little sad, and even a little surprised.

Walter- ... Yeah, I think people like that have become quite common these days. But try not to worry, leave it to the adults.

The man turned around, watching Kenny approach with a rifle in hand, oblivious to Clementine's annoyed expression.

Walter- Hey Ken.

Kenny- Hey Walt, what are you two talking about?

He stopped in front of the two, alternating his gaze between Clementine and Walter.

Walter- Psychopaths.

Kenny- Oh don't even get me started on that crap, I've met plenty of people like that, they make walkers look like angels.

He said as he walked further ahead, being accompanied by the other two.

His eyes focused on a short redheaded woman, apparently spying through the window of the inn.

Kenny pointed his rifle in her direction.

Kenny- It's not a very good idea to snoop around other people's houses, especially these days.

He said, and the girl turned away from the window in fright, raising her arms when she saw the rifle in Kenny's hand.

Walter- Ken, there's no need.

He said, placing his hand on the barrel of the rifle and lowering it slowly.

They began to talk about something in which Clementine could not hear, her golden eyes analyzing the woman.

"She doesn't look hungry, her clothes are too clean to have been in the forest long, plus they look new. Her skin is also clean and her hair is oddly tidy, she is part of a group, that is obvious."

Walter- We have plenty, you can stay here. I'll bring you some, I'll be back soon.

She snapped out of her thoughts as she heard Walter say to the girl, and followed him with her eyes as he walked back to the inn.

"Are you really going to give her some of your food? Really Walter?" - She thought, a little incredulous at the man's kindness, or stupidity.

They stared at her for some time, and a somewhat awkward silence hung in the air.

- I... have a little girl like you... how old are you, honey?

The girl leaned back on her knees, looking at Clementine with a gentle smile.

Clementine- I lost count.

She answered short, crossing her arms in front of her chest and looking neutrally at the woman.

Some time later, Walter returned with a large box of supplies in hand and handed it to the woman, making both Kenny and Clementine's eyes widen.

- That's a lot.

Walter- Don't worry about it, we have plenty.

- I don't know how to thank you for this.

Walker- Just help someone who needs it when you can, and take good care of your family.

The man said sympathetically, watching the woman smile gratefully and turn away, walking away.

Kenny- ... Clem, why don't you go back inside? Walter and I have to have a talk.

Kenny said seriously, and the girl just turned away, heading back inside the inn.

A few hours had passed since then, and Clementine was enjoying the bed she was in, a pleasant change from the hard forest floor.

A low noise echoed through the dark place, no one seemed to notice, so she just let it go, it shouldn't be a big deal.

The noise echoed once more, and she opened her sleepy eyes, slightly bothered.

She got out of bed lazily, walking to the second floor banister, thinking it was Kenny and Luke who returned from the round they decided to make.

Her eyes widened as she saw a man with a gun walking slowly around the place, apparently looking for something.

She bent down and looked over, seeing Alvin and Rebecca sleeping heavily on the bed beside her, and Carlos hugging Sarah further ahead.

She couldn't call them, it might make too much noise.

Slowly, she picked up the machete from beside her bed and walked crouched toward the stairs, looking at the man one more time before descending the steps.

He was a swarthy man, wearing a cap on his head, with part of his long hair covering the back of his neck. He was walking slowly through the poor visibility of the place, which was good for Clementine.

The man turned and walked toward the dining tables, approaching the other people sleeping in the corner. The girl took the opportunity to hide behind the couch nearby, watching the man slowly raise his gun toward the beds.

"Shit" - The girl mentally cursed, circling the couch as quickly and quietly as she could.

As soon as she saw the man's back exposed to her, she ran towards him with machete in hand.

The man was startled by the sudden sound of footsteps and turned around, but not fast enough to dodge the machete that pierced his chest.

In shock and surprise, the man squeezed the trigger of the rifle, shooting unintentionally towards the ground, waking up everyone who was sleeping in the inn.

Sarita- What's happening?! Kenny!

The woman shouted, getting up. Her eyes widened as she saw the body lying at Clementine's feet, who stabbed the machete into the man's skull, removing it soon after and wiping the blood on his clothes.

Matthew- What the fuck?!

He shouted, walking over to the body and looking at Clementine.

Alvin- Hey, what the fuck is going on?

He shouted from the second floor, walking to the railing and looking down.

Clementine - He aimed his rifle in your direction.

She explained in a neutral voice, putting the machete back in its sheath.

Walter - Was he going to shoot?

Clementine - I didn't wait to find out, one of you would probably be dead if I had.

She answered, slightly irritated by the question.

A static noise caught their attention, and they looked away from the radio in the man's pocket.

- Holy crap! The girl killed Eliot!

A male voice echoed through the radio, and Clementine looked up at the windows almost immediately.

Soon the place was blasted with a hail of gunfire. Clementine hid behind the counter nearby, along with Matthew and Walter.

As soon as the shooting ceased, she stood up and looked at the broken windows, spotting several people coming out of the forest and walking at a fast pace towards the inn.

Clementine- Damn, that's a lot of them!

She ducked again, looking at the two men beside her.

Matthew- What the fuck is going on here?! Who the fuck are these guys?

he asked with some desperation.

- Fuck, you bunch of idiots! I didn't say to shoot!

Another voice echoed over the radio, and Clementine rolled her eyes.

"I hate being right... Carver," she thought, sighing heavily afterwards.

Clementine- Where's Kenny?

Walter- Still on the prowl with Luke.

Nick- Uncle Pete, are you okay?!

Pete - Yeah! Fuck, can somebody tell me what the fuck is going on in there?

Clementine came out from behind the counter and ran to the stairs, going upstairs.

Carlos- What the fuck is going on?!

Clementine- I said we should have left when we had the chance, they caught up with us.

She said in a loud tone, hearing the door of the inn being opened violently, and watching the people come in with guns drawn.

- No one moves.

They ducked and walked down the small hallway, hiding.

Clementine raised her head a little, watching as her group was taken hostage, kneeling with their hands up while having guns pointed at their heads.

And in the middle was Carver, who was looking at the dead body nearby.

Carver - I could tell you were different, "Carley".

She ducked again, hearing his raspy voice say his fake name.

Carver-The moment I laid eyes on you in that cabin, I knew right away that you weren't just a little girl. Thank you for confirming this.

He said loudly, and then walked towards Walter, grabbing him by the shirt and dragging him towards the body of the man she had killed.

Without hesitation, Carver shot him in the head. Matthew screamed in desperation and tried to run toward his lover's body, but was struck in the stomach and forced to his knees.

"Holy shit, Walter..."- She thought ruefully, shaking her head slightly in denial.

Carver- That was for my man. I didn't want to have to do that, it was supposed to be something simple, no killing.

He shouted again, kicking Walter's body toward Eliot's, contempt on his face.

Carver- But I guess I'm also to blame for that, I should have known you would do something like that. To tell you the truth, I think I underestimated you, I'm sorry for that.

He walked back to the hostages, looking at Pete, who was being pushed by a man, with a confused expression, until he looked at Carver's face.

Carver- Pete, old friend, I missed you.

He said with a cynical smile, watching Pete get down on his knees in front of him.

Pete- I don't, honestly, wish I never saw your face again.

Carver just laughs lightly.

Carver- Last time I saw you, you were still on two legs...was following Luke worth it? Don't say I didn't warn you about the stupid thing you were doing.

He walked past Pete, ignoring the older man's gaze.

Carver- Now, let's do this the right way, no more killing.

He grabbed Sarita by her blouse, turned her back to him, and pointed his revolver at her head.

Carver- Rebecca! Our baby deserves to be raised in a place of safety! There's no use in hiding, I know you're there. Carlos, Alvin, "Carley"... just come out of there and I guarantee there will be no more killing.

Alvin- Damn, he's going to kill her. We have to go down.

He whispered, looking through the crack.

Rebecca- We can't go down there. I can't do this.

She whispered back, terrified.

Carlos- If we don't go, he'll kill her.

Carver- I'm going to count to three...ONE!

He shouted again, causing Carlos to turn to Rebecca.

Carlos- We have to go.

Rebecca- No! Where are Luke and Kenny?

Clementine- They're still on their rounds.

Rebecca- They're outside, they can help us.

Carver- TWO!

Carlos- And what can they do against all these people?

Rebecca- Carlos, I can't go down there.

Clementine - But we can't let her die, it's not fair, she has nothing to do with this, none of them do!

Carver- Are you really going to let her die?

He asked, putting his finger on the trigger.

Rebecca sighed, shaking her head, and then stood up.

Rebecca - Stop!

she shouted, and Carver looked at her with a victorious smile on his face.

He pushed Sarita forward, and walked toward the stairs, his eyes still fixed on Rebecca.

Clementine looked down once more, trying to find a way out of that situation, unfortunately, things did not look good for them.

The girl just sighed, walking towards the stairs, right behind Carlos.

She ignored the small conversation Carver had with Rebecca, walking towards where the other hostages were, taking a quick look at Walter's body.

Carver- When I saw all these people at this inn, I thought I should worry about Kenny, or maybe Luke... but I was wrong, the most dangerous person here, amazingly enough, is you, "Carley"... or should I say, Clementine?

He crouched down to the height of the kneeling girl, looking deep into her golden eyes.

Clementine just remained silent.

Carver- To think that such a young girl has eyes like that... huh, the last time I saw a look like yours was on a guy I knew some time ago, the same man who gave me that scar on my face. You two look alike.

He stood up, turning to the door of the inn that was opened again, smiling as he saw Kenny enter at gunpoint. He had a body on his lower lip and some bruises all over his face. His hands were also bruised, bleeding, he had probably been in a fight before being captured.

Kenny's eyes widened as he looked at Carver, then became more irritated.

Kenny- Fucking hell! I thought you were dead! Insistent son of a bitch.

Clementine looked at him in surprise.

"So they know each other...".

Carver- I am also happy to see you again Ken, we haven't seen each other for a long time. It's been what, a year? Maybe?

He punched Kenny in the stomach, who bent over and groaned in pain.

Carver- Say, where is that friend of yours? He and I have a score to settle, I haven't stopped thinking about him since he gave me this " little gift" right in my face.

He pushed Kenny toward the other hostages, bringing him to his knees and looking deep into his eyes.

Kenny- Even if I knew, do you think I would tell? For all I know, he could be dead.

Carver- Don't give me that, men like him are not easy to kill, and if you're alive, he certainly is. But don't worry, we'll have plenty of time to... settle our differences, become more... civilized. Leave the past behind.

He said, signaling to the men behind them, who walked towards the hostages.

- Sir, he killed Mark.

One of the men said, and Carver looked menacingly at Kenny. He raised his revolver, and fired.

Kenny looked incredulously at Matthew's body, which fell motionless to the ground, with a hole in its head.

Carver-... Now we're even. Okay, tie them up, we're heading back to camp.

He said, walking towards the exit of the inn, heading for the van that had just arrived.
