Clementine was enjoying the small moment of sleep she had. She hadn't been able to sleep most of the night, she didn't feel comfortable enough for it and the people around her were bothering her. Crista was as cold as she remembered, she didn't blame her, she had lost a baby and her husband, but now the girl couldn't trust her for anything anymore.
The place, which felt more like a prison, gave her the chills, and she couldn't wait to get out of there.
Clementine felt a small pain in her stomach, and when she opened her eyes, it was inevitable to make an angry expression when she saw Troy looking at her with that pathetic face. And she was even more annoyed to see that he had kicked her.
Troy- Get up. Bill is going to have a word with you guys.
Clementine looked at the gate, spotting people standing next to each other in a circle, but still no sign of Carver.
Clementine kicked Troy's knee, who fell off balance and groaned in pain, taking advantage, the girl stood up on the opposite side of the man, not intimidated when he pointed the rifle in her direction.
Troy- You little bitch!
he said through his teeth, irritated.
Clementine- You're not going to kill me, Carver didn't give you orders. And you're too much of a coward to do anything behind his back.
She said in a loud tone, walking calmly towards the group, standing next to Duck and Kenny, who were looking at her with a mixture of excitement and concern.
Duck-Hah, good one. He deserves it.
Kenny- ...He does, but be careful, we don't know what he can do to you.
She looked at them both, giving them an "innocent" smile, as if to tell them not to worry.
Duck just laughed as he watched Troy walk past them with an annoyed look on his face, and Kenny just sighed as he shook his head.
That was not the girl he had met, that was obvious, he just didn't know what to think of it.
Clementine looked away, watching curiously as Duck chatted quietly with Sarah.
Huh.
After a while, Carver finally approached.
Carver- There is increased walker activity along the fence, so be careful when you stay outside these walls. The horde got a little closer this morning, but still, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are going to hit us.
Clementine just rolled her eyes internally, ignoring everything the man was saying, but still keeping her eyes focused on him.
Stuck in her thoughts, the girl didn't even notice the small movement next to her.
Sarah- Hey Clem.
Sarah's suddenly sweet voice brought her out of her thoughts, and she glanced at her, turning her head minimally towards the girl.
Sarah- I'm sorry for the way I acted yesterday, I was a little rude to you.
She whispered, and Clementine grimaced in disgust as she saw Carver stare at Sarah for a few moments.
Clementine- It's okay. We'll talk about this later, okay?
She said gently, trying to save the girl from a sure punishment. Carver was the unpredictable type, and this type of person was especially complicated to deal with.
Sarah-Oh, okay, it's good that we don't have any hard feelings. I just thought that...
Carver- Carlos!
Clementine bowed her head, sighing a low "I knew it".
Carlos- Yes?
He asked hesitantly.
Carver-Your child looks in need of correction.
Carlos sighed lightly, and turned his body slightly toward Sarah.
Carlos - I'm sorry... Ehm, S-Sarah, apologize to Mr. Carver.
The girl hugged her own arm and bowed her head.
Sarah - I'm... I'm sorry, sir.
Carver- No, no. That won't do. I can't have this kind of behavior on day one of your reformation. Discipline her now, Carlos!
Carlos looked at him, confused and fearful.
Carver - A good slap across the mouth should be enough. It'll make her think twice before opening it again! Come on, we'll wait.
He crossed his arms, looking hard at Carlos.
Duck- What? This is bullshit!
Duck said angrily, taking a step forward and receiving an intense stare from Carver.
Troy- Hey, he's not fucking talking to you!
Duck- You shut up, unless you want to lose the other eye!
Troy became even more irritated and walked towards Duck, who was looking at him defiantly. Kenny stood in front of the boy and also looked at Troy.
Before a fight could form there, Carver grabbed Troy by the shoulder and pulled him back violently, still looking at Duck.
Carver- Unless you want what she's about to get, I'd keep quiet, kid!
Duck- Fuck you!
Carver nodded, and two men grabbed Kenny by the arms and pulled him backwards.
Carver approached Duck and punched him hard in the face, causing the boy to fall to the ground.
Kenny- Hey! You son of a bitch! You're dead when I get my hands on you!
Kenny yelled in anger, managing to free one of his arms and slam his elbow into the face of one of the men holding him down.
But Troy came over and punched him in the stomach, making him bend over.
Carver- All right. I tried to do this the easy way, but it looks like you're going to insist on continuing with this shit! No food for you today, let's see if an empty stomach will make you think about the shit you're doing!
He said angrily and looked at Duck, meeting the boy's murderous gaze. Then he lifted his eyes, also meeting Clementine's murderous gaze.
And for some reason, he smiled at that.
The girl watched him leave, and then bent down to Duck, helping him to his feet.
- You're going to work in the armory. Follow me!
A large dark-skinned woman approached Clementine, giving her a neutral look before turning around.
The girl took a quick glance at Duck and Kenny, and began to follow the woman.
On the way, she scanned the inside of the place. It was huge, and with many guards, however, because it was so large, it was very easy to hide at night, even with so many people making rounds.
"It's a possibility" - She thought, looking around neutrally.
It wasn't long before they arrived, and the woman stopped in front of a door.
- Come in, Bonnie is waiting.
She said as she opened the door, and Clementine made a point of rolling her eyes when she saw the redheaded woman inside, who was looking at her a little embarrassed.
Bonnie- Hey, err... I think you start the day with me. We' re loading magazines.
She said, taking an empty comb and putting a bullet in it. Clementine looked at the movement she made and imitated her.
Bonnie- Yes, you got it.
She took another bullet and put it in the comb, ignoring the woman.
Bonnie-I think I owe you an apology.
She said, and Clementine gave her a neutral look.
Walter helped that woman, was generous enough to give her a box full of supplies, and then, he dies because of her.
In a way, it was his fault for trusting a stranger, but he was just being kind.
He deserved to die because of that. Not him, not Matthew.
Clementine- Don't start with that shit!
The girl said rudely, interrupting the woman, who looked at her incredulously.
Bonnie- Excuse me?!
Clementine- Do you think "apologize" is going to fix what you did? What Carver did?
The girl didn't look at the woman, concentrating only on her work.
Bonnie- Look, I know it wasn't honest of me, and if it's any consolation, people weren't supposed to die. None of that was supposed to happen.
Clementine- Oh, right. You bring a cruel and merciless psychopath to our door and don't expect anyone to die? Are you stupid? Two good people were killed, and it's your fault!
She still didn't look at her, caring little for the woman's broken gaze.
In Clementine's mind, Bonnie had caused those deaths. And she would pay for it.
Bonnie- Hey! None of that would have happened if you hadn't killed one of our people. Carver only did it because...
Clementine- Because he's a crazy you're saying that I should have stayed put when a stranger broke into the inn and pointed a gun at my friends? Or Kenny should have let himself be attacked when a man approached him from behind? Of course, we should have let all this happen! Fucking hell!
she said wryly and loudly, making Bonnie feel even worse than she already did, and start to get a little desperate with the mental torture the girl was giving her.
Bonnie- No! I didn't mean that... I just...
Clementine- No! Bonnie, you will shut up, and that's all. I don't want to be your friend, I don't want to talk to you, or look at you. Then go tell those lies to another idiot! You don't have to apologize to me, you have to apologize to the two good men who died because of you. But they're not here anymore, are they?
Clementine looked deep into her eyes for the first time, not caring about the pain and regret in the woman's eyes.
She sighed, putting the bullets back into the empty magazines, ignoring the broken woman in front of her.
So you're saying that I should have stayed put when a stranger broke into the inn and pointed a gun at my friends?
She sighed, putting the bullets back into the empty combs, ignoring the broken woman in front of her.
Bonnie- I... I'm so sorry... please just listen to me. I didn't want them to die, I didn't want Carver to do that. I thought I could control the situation, that I could make things simpler.
Clementine- Simple? So you just wanted Carver to kidnap us? You and Carver are the same.
She said without looking at the woman, already thinking of different ways to kill Bonnie.
Sure, when she gets the chance.
- Oh, you're still here, we have another job for you girl... Why the long face, Bonnie?
The woman walked through the door, approaching Clementine and looking at Bonnie, who was staring at the floor.
Bonnie-... It's nothing Tavia... See you later Clementine.
Clementine didn't answer, she just stood up and started to follow Tavia.
"So we're alone for a while, and after that, someone comes to pick me up to take me to another job..." - She thought.
After a while of walking, they arrived on the roof. Clementine's eyes immediately focused on the microphones hanging on the side, they should be loud enough to attract walkers from far away.
"...There's a horde coming..."- She shook her head, looking up at the "windows" up there.
Tavia- Stay inside for a minute. I'll get Reggie. Don't touch anything.
The woman said, and closed the door. Clementine looked at her through the window of the agricultural greenhouse, arching an eyebrow and looking around.
"Is she really going to leave me alone up here?" - She thought, reaching into her back pocket and grabbing her pocket knife, mentally thanking Troy for his stupidity.
Her eyes focused on Sarah, startling herself slightly for not having noticed the girl there. Not surprisingly, she was huddled in the corner of the greenhouse, hugging her two legs together.
Clementine- Are you all right?
she asked, approaching the girl and putting the knife back in her pocket.
Sarah looked at her with a sad and downcast face.
Sarah-... Kenny and Duck got hurt because of me...
Clementine crossed her arms in front of her chest, watching the girl.
Sarah- If I had kept quiet, they wouldn't have gotten hurt.
"Took you long enough to realize"- Clementine thought, mentally rolling her eyes.
Clementine- got hurt instead of you.
The girl looked at her, surprised.
Clementine- So how are you going to repay them? Don't think about just going in there and apologizing, because that's not worth much these days.
Sarah looked at her thoughtfully, and then bowed her head, still hugging her legs.
Sarah-... I... I don't know...
Clementine- Well, you better find out soon.
Clementine would do no more than that, she was already helping the girl grow by showing her the way, the rest, Sarah should figure out on her own.
And deep down Clementine hoped that she would be able to grow up with it, even though she didn't hold out much hope for the girl.
The door behind the girl opened, and they both looked at Reggie.
Reggie: Hello girls. Ok, we have to do a good job here guys, the camp is counting on us.
He said, approaching a table further ahead.
"Reggie ... fuck the camp"- Clementine thought, controlling that strong urge to say it out loud.
Reggie- Here, I'll show you what to do, it's super easy.
The two walked over and stood beside him as he explained. Sarah seemed to be listening with some attention, although she traveled in her thoughts from time to time.
Clementine just ignored Reggie, for the most part, still watching the greenhouse and its surroundings through the window.
Reggie- See, it's pretty easy.
He said as he finished explaining, walking through the small space between the tables to a spot further ahead.
Clementine sighed again, looking at the scissors on the table.
