After Draco had left, Harry had gone back to his room to lay on his
bed to think, though surprisingly not about Draco. Thinking about
Draco made Harry all confused and bothered. All his life he had liked
girls but now that had changed and he knew it. He decided that from
then on he would try not to fight his feelings but knew he would
doubt himself if, or more like when, another episode like that night's
happened again.
As he started to think of what had become of his job applications he
heard the front door downstairs open, which was immediately
followed by his mother softly giggling, which was always a sign that
her husband had kissed her. Aren't they getting too old for that? Well,
they aren't that old but still... I'm a teenager, I don't want to hear that
stuff from them. Gross...Harry thought that he would give Hermione
a call and give her details of what had happened that night as he knew
she would be dying to hear, but one look at the clock told him it
wasn't the best idea. What was bordering being too late to call
someone's house for him might be much too late for Hermione's
father. And if there was one thing he didn't want to do was get on the
bad side of a girl's father. So he signed online to see if Ben was on.
When he saw Ben's screen name on his list he sent him an IM.
"Hey,"Harry typed.
"Hey what's up? How was the movie?" Ben soon
answered. Before Draco had arrived Harry told Ben that he was
having someone over to watch Dreamcatcher. Ben, out of his good-
natured humour, asked Harry if it was his hot girlfriend. Harry of
course told ben that he didn't have a girlfriend so ben seized the
opportunity to joke around with harry and so asked, "oh, then a hot
boyfriend?" this made harry blush and swallow nervously. He began
to type "no" but then backspaced and just said that he had to go.
"It was okay, I've seen better but I've seen worse. Have you ever seen it?"
"Nah, it didn't seem like my kind of movie."
"Oh. Oh, and by the way, sorry about just signing off last night like that."
"It's cool"
"Good, I just didn't want you to think I was mad or anything."
"Nah, of course not. Can I ask you something though?"
"Sure."
"Are you gay?"
I knew it. Of course he would ask me that after I didn't answer him when he made the boyfriend joke and then just signed off... grrr
Harry began to automatically type "no" but then he thought about it and backspaced and just stared at the screen of his computer. Finally he started to type.
"Yes. Does that change anything?"
"No, why would it? I'd be a hypocrite I I stopped talking to you"
"What do you mean?" Harry questioned.
"I'm gay, of course. Didn't I tell you that already?"
"No."
"Oh, I could have sworn I did. Oh well, doesn't matter much now."
"Yeah, I guess not"
"So im guessing this Draco is your boyfriend, huh?"
"Well, sort of. Well not really, actually I don't know. I mean some
stuff happened when he came over before but we never said anything
about dating... so I guess we aren't"
"Don't sweat it, you probably will be soon. All the good ones go fast :P"
"That must mean you have a boyfriend then."
"Nah, there aren't any cute boys around here. Except me of course," Ben joked.
"LOL, you aren't self-centered at all," Harry replied, going along with the joke.
"Of course. I'm not self-centered, but I really should go. I have to have my beauty sleep, not that I need it. LOL."
"LOL, goodnight, princess."
"night," and with that, Ben signed off and Harry soon followed suit.
Harry yawned and stripped to his boxers then got into his bed. he
briefly wondered if Draco was still awake before falling asleep.
"Harry! Wake up, someone is on the phone for you. he said it's
about a job you applied for at some music store," Lily Potter said to
her son. When he didn't wake up she pulled the covers off his bed and
shook his shoulder. "Harry James Potter, you get up this minute, you
cant keep someone that might be your future employer waiting over
the line!"
What a nice way to wake up; with your mom yelling about something at you
"Ugh, I'm awake, what?" Lily simply handed her son the phone and
gave him a sharp look. She watched as Harry cleared his throat and
said hello to the man on the phone.
"Yes, this is Harry," Harry said into the phone.
"Yes, I did," he said after obviously listening to what the man over the phone was saying.
"Oh really? Cool, I mean, thank you so much. Do you need me to come down now or---"
"Oh, ok. Sure. I'll see you in the afternoon then."
"Goodbye, sir." And then Harry hung out the phone and looked back at his mother.
"Well, I have a job now," he said to her.
"Oh, my baby is growing up!" exclaimed Lily Potter and gave her son a hug.
"Mum! Personal space! Besides, I'm seventeen, I've already grown up."
"Oh, pish posh, you're still just a boy. How about some pancakes, honey?"
Harry simply rolled his eyes and said yes to pancakes. He thought that
it was just a waste of time and energy trying to convince his mother
that he wasn't a little boy anymore. He rolled out of bed and went into
his bathroom to shower. After breakfast he called Hermione and told
her that he had been hired, this of course was no news to her because
Phil had already told her the day before. Harry then told her that
Draco had been over the night before and said that he would give her
the whole story after he went down to the music store in the
afternoon. He suggested going to Lou's during her break so they
could talk it over and she happily agreed. Not two minutes after he
hung up with Hermione did his phone ring again.
"Hello?"
"Hey Harry, it's me, Draco."
"Oh, hey, what's up?"
"Nothing much, I'm just sitting around, what about you?"
"Well, I just got hired down at the music store that Hermione works in."
"Really? That's great!"
"Yeah I know, now my mom can get off my back about me being a
lazy bum and not having a job." Draco laughed at this and then told
Harry that he was a lazy bum because he had never had a job in his
life. His parents didn't expect him to actually work until after college
because there wasn't any need for him to have a job. Their family was
filthy rich, why should he have to work?
"No fair. You have all the luck. So what are you doing today?" Harry responded.
"Actually nothing. My father was going to take me out but those plans got canceled. He's really busy I guess. What about you? What are you going to be up to today?"
"Well, later in the afternoon, I have to go to the store. I guess they're going to show me the ropes like how to work the register and stuff. Then I'm going to Lou's with Hermione and, I haven't asked her yet, but when she gets off work I was going to see if she wanted to come over. Mum's really taken with her."
"Cool. Do you mind if we hang out before you go down to the music store?" Draco asked carefully.
Harry heard the nervousness in Draco's voice and smiled.
"Of course not. Do you want to come here over or do you want me to
go down to your house?"
"Oh, it doesn't matter to me, whatever you like."
"Well, umm... come over here."
"Okay, I'll see you soon then."
"Bye."
"Bye."
Harry then went downstairs and ran into his father.
"Hey, kid. Heard about the job. So you're a working man now huh?"
"Yeah, and don't even think about telling me, that I have to pay you
guys rent now," Harry smiled.
"I wasn't think that at all," Mr. Potter said with an innocent look on his face.
"Yeah right. Oh, Draco's coming over, just so you know."
"Oh, that's fine with me. But tell your mother because I'm going out to get her fertilizer for the garden she's outside weeding right now, okay?"
"Yup, see ya, Dad."
"Bye, kiddo."
After Harry told his mother that Draco was on his way he went back
to his room. He was just sitting around when the thought hit him...
what were they going to do? His house was the most boring place to
be. While he was frantically trying to think of things to do once Draco
arrived, the doorbell rang. He all of a sudden became nervous as he
went downstairs and when he opened the door, sure enough, there was
Draco looking as great as ever and also talking to his mother. Ugh!
How long have they been talking? By now he probably knows every
embarrassing thing I did as a kid.
"Hey," Harry greeted Draco.
Draco then turned to look at him with a smile.
"Hey."
"Well, come on in. and I don't even want to know what my mother was telling you."
Draco gave a mischievous smile and said, "You're right, you don't
want to know."
Harry groaned inwardly as he led Draco up to his room.
