Clementine stepped out from inside the storage room, watching the herd up people looked at her with a strange glint in their eyes, probably because she had decided to stay and watch Carver being beaten to death.

She just ignored those looks, she had killed the people she wanted to kill, got out of that prison, and still managed to get her machete back.

She was happy about that.

Her eyes focused on the walkers lying on the ground with their abdomens open. The girl would never get used to the smell of those things.

The people who had already covered themselves with their guts formed something resembling a circle in front of the people who were not yet covered, shielding them from the walkers' gaze and preventing them from getting too close.

Clementine walked over to one of the bodies and put her hands inside, spreading their organs and blood all over her clothes.

"Good thing that's Duck's jacket"- She thought amusedly, already imagining the sad expression the boy would make when he saw that his jacket was in that state.

Sarah- I... I have to put this on myself? Smells gross.

She said hesitantly, causing Clementine to look at her for a few moments, slightly annoyed.

Duck- Turn around Sarah, I'll put it on your back.

Duck approached with his hands holding a handful of guts, beginning to spread the disgusting stuff on Sarah's back, while Carlos put it on her torso.

Pete- In all my years of life, I never imagined I would do something like this.

The older man said, feeling Nick spread the guts on his back. He was standing up, with some kind of improvised prosthesis on his leg. It wasn't as good as a normal prosthesis, and he couldn't walk very fast with it, but it was good enough.

Clementine- Just stay calm. Walk slowly, some of them might bump into you, but you'll be fine if you don't attract attention.

She explained to the girl, standing up and taking her machete out of its sheath, walking towards Kenny further ahead.

Kenny- Everybody ready? Remember, walk, don't run, don't talk, just walk.

He said, turning quickly and walking towards the herd, taking the lead.

Clementine looked back, watching Pete lean on Carlos, Nick stand next to Luke, and Duck stand next to Sarah, saying something to the frightened girl that seemed to calm her down.

"...Huh,well well well" - She thought, she would remember mocking Duck later.

She started walking, a little further behind Kenny, looking around attentively in case she needed to kill any walkers.

The sound of gunfire became more audible, and Clementine saw a bullet hit the ground not far from her. Looking back slowly, she curses softly as she sees the guards shooting in her direction, thinking that they are part of the herd.

Clementine started to walk a little further to the side, separating herself from the row of people walking towards the forest. They were easy targets if the guards noticed a single line of people going in the opposite direction.

The girl looked to the side, watching Duck trying to calm Sarah, who seemed to start to despair in the middle of the to the side, she saw, almost in slow motion, the moment when Pete was shot and fell to the ground, groaning in pain.

"Fuck!" - She mentally cursed, turning and walking towards the man as fast as she could in the current situation.

On the way, she killed a few walkers walking in the same direction as her, hitting them in the leg and killing them soon after.

Duck was holding Sarah's face, preventing her from looking away, as the girl would surely despair at seeing her father being slowly surrounded by the dead.

One walker in particular was approaching right behind Carlos' back, who didn't seem to notice it. Clementine knocked him down and stabbed her machete into his head, looking at the man who was trying to help Pete.

Clementine-Can he walk?

She whispered, standing next to Carlos and looking around, protecting him in case any walkers got too close.

Carlos- The bullet entered through his back and exited through his chest, pierced a lung apparently, if it was just a little lower, he would be able to walk but...

He whispered back, trying to control the bleeding in Pete's chest. Both he and Pete were covered in walker blood, surely some of it must have gotten into the wound, it might not have been enough for him to transform, it might have been more than enough.

He couldn't tell, but the older man's situation wasn't looking so good.

Pete- Great... I survived a crazy psychopath... to end up with a... bullet in the chest by some dumb son of a bitch.

He spoke with difficulty, pausing between his lines to breathe.

Carlos bowed his head and sighed.

Clementine removed her machete from the skull of yet another walker and approached Pete, looking at him neutrally, but with a slight glint in her eye, almost a silent question.

Pete stared at her intensely, understanding the girl's gaze.

He breathed heavily, putting his head down and closing his eyes, putting a wry smile on his face.

Pete- Well shit... do it girl. Tell Nick that I'm proud of him.

Carlos looked at him strangely for a few moments, but sighed and stood up soon after, standing in front of Pete's body with a heavy expression.

Pete- Don't be like that Carlos... I knew... deep down I knew I wouldn't survive long... and to think that I was tied to a bed for so long... and when I can finally walk... hurf... this happens... sometimes... hurf... fate is a bitch.

He said, giving a low, drawn out laugh, coughing up some blood.

Clementine crouched down beside the man, placing the tip of her machete on his temple.

Clementine- It was ... nice to meet you Pete.

She said, trying to choose the best words to say. She hadn't talked to him much after she had torn his leg off, she hadn't had the opportunity. Occasionally they exchanged a few words in those days when they walked, before they found the ski lodge.

Pete - Heh... it was interesting... meeting you Clem... although I feel sorry for what the world has turned you into.

He closed his eyes again, and Clementine stabbed her machete into his skull, pulling him out immediately afterwards.

She stared at his body for a few moments, and then stood up, walking back towards the forest, next to Carlos.

Carlos-... Where is Sarah?

He whispered, looking everywhere for her.

Clementine- She's with Duck, they were right behind Kenny. They must have left by now.

She whispered back, not worrying too much about the others, she knew that if they didn't attract attention, they would be fine.

It didn't take long before they reached the forest. Carlos walked ahead with hurried steps, anxious to see Sarah again.

Clementine followed close behind.

A noise not far from where they were standing caught the attention of both of them, and they turned around. Carlos reached for his pistol and Clementine just kept calm, they were still covered with guts. But she held her machete tighter, just in case.

Her eyes calmed as she saw Rebecca coming out of the woods, next to Jane and Carley, who was helping the woman walk.

Carley- Is she okay?

He walked towards Rebecca, putting the pistol away again.

Carley- I think so, she's just in a little pain.

She explained, walking away from the woman after she said she was fine.

Carlos- She needs to rest.

Rebecca- I can handle it, we're not that far away now.

She said, but Carlos decided to stay by her side on the way.

Clementine walked a little further back, looking at the back of Carlos further ahead.

Behind her, Carley and Jade were talking about something. It was even strange to hear Carley talking again, since she never said more than one word that wasn't to blame her for something.

"Well, thank you Jane for keeping her off my foot" - She mentally thanked her, looking down at the machete.

She made some effort to wipe the blade on her blood-stained clothes, but smiled when she had cleaned enough, and put it back in its sheath.

The girl reached for the pocket knife in her pocket, not having had a chance to clean it before.

She ran the bloodstained blade across her pants, just above the heel, that being one of the only places not yet covered with guts.

She raised the knife in front of her, looking at her reflex in the Blade, not bothering to look somewhat... grotesque.

She had been that way for so long that she had gotten used to it.

A few footsteps approached her, and the girl looked back, surprised to see Carley start walking right beside her.

"Oh fuck..." - She mentally cursed, already preparing herself for an argument that would unfold there. It was always like this.

Carley noticed the girl's doubtful look and sighed slightly.

Carley- Look, Clem... I'm sorry I blamed you for Lee's death...

she said, and Clementine arched her eyebrows in surprise, her mouth dropping open in a perfect 'o'.

Carley-... You... seem a bit surprised...

Clementine- Of course I am. I can't remember a single time in the time we were together after Savannah that we didn't fight about something.

It was still hard for Clementine to remember that. For her, Savannah was a cursed city, she had lost everything in that place, and her life had turned gray after that.

Carley- I know... and I realized that it wasn't your fault. I guess I was just too angry and frustrated to notice it before. Or maybe I did notice it, but I needed to relieve this frustration, this anger. It wasn't your fault Lee died... he made a choice, and I'm sure he would do the same thing again if he could, without a second thought. I think he would even be proud of that.

The girl lowered her gaze and turned her head forward. Lee was her weakness, she controlled herself not to cry at the mere mention of his name.

Clementine-... Kenny said something similar when we met.

Carley- Well... actually, I talked to him... I never thought I would listen to a piece of advice from him.

She said a little amused, causing the girl to give a small smile as she knew the woman was angry with Kenny. At least, that's how it was the last time she saw her.

Clementine- Don't you feel angry with him anymore?

She turned to the woman, looking at her.

Carley-... Not really... you seemed very comfortable with him... and Lee didn't feel anger towards him either, I didn't see why I should continue to hate him. It' s not worth it. And to tell you the truth, he seems to have changed a lot.

Clementine turned forward, thinking about what she had said.

Clementine- He's really changed, he listens more now, unlike before.

Carley shook her head in agreement.

Carley- Yes, I must say I was quite surprised when I talked to him. I suspected he was different when I saw you two talking. He pretty much tells you everything.

Clementine- Not everything... I feel like he's hiding something.

she confessed, making Carley look at her curiously.

Carley- Like what?

Clementine- I don't know...when he and Lee went to the abandoned airport to get supplies. I asked him about it and he changed the subject right away. I tried to ask him a few other times, but he always found an excuse not to talk, which is strange.

She said with a thoughtful expression, and slightly surprised that she was having a friendly conversation with Carley.

"Huh, fate really is a bitch!" - She thought, remembering Pete's words.

Carley-... But they never went to an airport.

Clementine looked at her confused.

Clementine- What? Yes, they did, I heard about it from some friends at the lodge we were staying at, and they both confirmed it. And he didn't deny it when I asked.

Carley- Clem, they have never been to an airport. Middle Georgia Regional Airport. Lee wanted to go there once, but they never went. It was one of the places he wanted to go to look for supplies, that was the day before we met up with the St Johns...

Clementine looked at her with wide eyes, slowing the frequency of her steps and staring intensely at the ground.

"... That doesn't make sense..." - She thought, remembering everything she heard from Matthew and Walter back at the lodge.

Clementine- It doesn't make sense... are you sure about that?

She asked, suspicious.

Carley- Yes. I won't forget it, especially since we met the St John's right after that conversation.

Clementine continued to stare at the floor, feeling her hands begin to shake and her heart begin to race.

"No... there's no way that's possible... they went to that airport... Or maybe he must have gone with someone else... yeah! He must have gone with someone else, Matthew and Walter got it wrong" - She thought, trying to calm her body and put out that little flame of hope and anxiety that was rising in her chest.

"It was someone else..."

"... right?"
