The refreshing feeling that the morning weather had, along with the calmness with which she felt watching the sunrise, made that moment one of the best of the day for Clementine.

She was sitting on the deck, with her legs between the bars, swaying gently as she watched the sun rise over the horizon. Despite the slightly chilly weather, she didn't mind.

The girl sighed quietly, lifting her head a little and closing her eyes, enjoying the cold but gentle breeze that hit her face.

It was a small moment of peace, a small moment all to herself, when she could be caught up in her own thoughts, now in a quieter moment.

She had many things to think about. What they would do in the current situation, her relationship with her group, the scenes from when Kenny beat Carver to death that kept coming back to her mind.

And then there was the whole situation with Lee.

At the thought of his name, the calmness she had been feeling was gone, and anxiety began to take its place.

She sighed, all she wanted was to go to Kenny and demand answers, even if he wasn't too eager to tell her.

She remembered all the jokes she had with Lee, all the conversations, the drawings they painted together. One of the things that stood out to her the most was the day he taught her how to swim.

There was something special about that day, something special about that memory that left her in peace. In a calmness that she was not used to feeling, not anymore.

It was a somewhat magical moment for her, and she was sure for Lee too.

It was good to recall that memory, especially in bad times like that, to say the least.

To think that Lee was out there, alive, made her chest hurt, as if she were being stabbed by multiple knives, multiple times.

That is if he really was alive. Which she tried to convince herself that it was a lie. She tried to convince herself that he was long gone.

She heard footsteps approaching behind her, interrupting her little moment of peace, which was beginning to conflict with her thoughts.

- Hey Clem...

Luke's voice penetrated her ears and echoed through her head. The girl looked at him neutrally for a few moments, then turned her gaze to the sun, letting herself be consumed by the palette of colors that painted the horizon.

- Look... I'm sorry, you know, for yesterday, I... I admit I didn't think about what you were dealing with... what you went through. I didn't know.

The man sat down beside her, also putting his legs through the bars, looking at the sun on the horizon.

-It's all right. It's been a long time.

She answered after a few moments of silence, looking at the water of the river ahead, which was running calmly along its course.

-I mean, I've been through some pretty horrible things myself, enough to change me somehow, but... what you've been through is... different.

He continued, leaning his head on one of the large ones and looking down, seeing out of the corner of his eyes some of the bodies they had killed the day before. His mind was still echoing Clementine's words, which made his guilt rise in his chest as he remembered them.

-As I said, it's all right. There was no way you could have known. I never told you.

The girl put one of her hands on one of the bars, taking a quick look back, watching as some people started to wake up.

In a few minutes they would be back to fighting for survival, back to fighting the walkers, back to fighting for their lives and the lives of those around them. They would go back to searching through the garbage for scraps and anything else that would be useful, surviving in a way that was even worse than that of a beggar.

Despite the tranquility that the morning gave her, nothing would change the fact that she would always fight for her life, always have to keep moving even if her body begged her to stop.

And she wasn't sure what else to think about it. Her mind was confused.

She would not give up, never, she was not weak at that point. But she couldn't stop herself from thinking about why she still kept walking, was it because of the people around her? Was it to look for some safe place where, hopefully, she would live a quiet and peaceful life?

-Do you really think you can survive these days without becoming a bad person?

She asked suddenly, looking deep into Luke's eyes.

The man looked back at her, thinking about an answer, reviewing his own concepts and thoughts, and after a while, he sighed.

He couldn't find the answer he wanted, perhaps because he himself already knew the real answer.

Reality was different, and he just had to accept that.

-Probably not... But still... it scares me.

He answered after a while, looking away from the girl.

- It's normal to be frightened by this, I guess. But you have to accept... there will be times when you will do horrible things, some worse than others, but that's the way it has to be if you want to stay alive.

She sighed as she finished saying this, looked once more at the sun on the horizon and stood up, walking towards her now almost fully awake group.

- Okay, how is Rebecca? - Kenny asked. He was the first person to have woken up, after Clementine. He had spent some time just looking at Duck's peaceful face. They had talked a lot the day before, but it was nowhere near what they needed, nowhere near what they wanted to say to each other.

Kenny was looking forward to spending more time with his son, but he had to control those feelings, at least for a little while longer. Eventually they would become even closer.

- I'm fine. - Rebecca said in a tired tone. She was still a little pale, and clearly tired, she couldn't walk for long in that state, not without help, not without food.

- She needs some more rest. She needs food, we all do in fact. I am afraid we will have to stay here for a while longer before we can travel. We need supplies, lots of supplies. - Carlos said, standing up next to Rebecca, crossing his arms as he looked at the people around him.

- There is a town across the river, we can check it out quickly. It could be a whole town worth of supplies. - Mike said, walking up to the deck and pointing to the top of a church, apparently, just across the river, past some trees.

- The bridge for the crossing is a few miles up the road, it will take a few hours to get to the town. - Jane said, walking beside Mike and putting her hands on her waist, turning toward the river.

- Well, we don't have many options. We can search the nearest buildings first, then send a small group into town. - Luke said, getting up and walking towards the rest of the group.

- We can try to catch something, if there's anything in this river. - Duck said, getting up while yawning, stretching and looking sleepily at the people in front of him.

- Anything helps, in fact, we can try. We can hunt too, although there don't seem to be many animals around. - Luke answered, leaning on the wall beside him and crossing his arms.

- Okay. I can either go out hunting, or I can go looking for supplies. I can do both, actually, if you like. - Kenny said, picking up his rifle from the floor and placing it on his back, stretching his body a little from sleeping on the hard floor.

- Crista and I can search the surrounding buildings now. They're not too far away. - Carley said, checking the ammo in her pistol and putting it back in her waistband.

- Sarita and I can go hunting, we did that a lot when it was just the two of us running around. Luke, Mike, and Jane can go into town. Carlos stays here and takes care of Rebecca and the baby. - Kenny said, walking toward the gate and opening it, turning around before leaving.

- And what about me? I want to leave too. - Duck said, not very happy about having to stay in that place.

To be honest, Clementine didn't like being left out either, but she didn't say anything.

- You could try fishing... What? That was your idea. - Kenny replied, laughing lightly at Duck's displeased look.

- By the way, Carlos has three people to take care of. You and Clementine have the duty to protect them. - Kenny said again, coming down the stairs, followed by Sarita.

One by one they were leaving, and Clementine sighed as she saw them walking in different directions. In a different situation, she would say it was a bad idea to separate the group like that. But the current situation was rather critical, so she just kept quiet.

- I'll be waiting for you downstairs, we haven't checked the fist floor yet. Hopefully we'll get something like a hammock, otherwise I'll make you a spear. - Duck said in a lazy tone, yawning once more as he stretched.

Clementine looked at him with arched eyebrows, and laughed lightly at the boy's laziness.

The girl turned and looked quickly at Sarah, who was standing on the deck, looking at the river ahead.

She shook her head and sighed heavily, walking towards Carlos.

-Carlos, I think you should teach Sarah how to protect herself. - She said as she approached, receiving a surprised, almost incredulous look from the man.

- Sarah can no longer be a helpless child, Carlos, she has to learn, she has to help. I won't risk my life for someone who doesn't help with anything. - She said, using words that were a bit harsh, more than she really meant, but it was the naked truth, thrown in the face of Carlos, who had a disgusted expression on his face.

- Clementine, I understand what you mean, but I can't leave her exposed to these risks. I will protect her, and...

He began to say, and at the very first sentence, Clementine rolled her eyes.

- What if you die?

The question made Carlos shut up and look at Clementine surprised, and even a little curious.

- You're not a superman, Carlos, you won't be there for her forever. And she needs to grow up, she needs to learn to defend herself, to fend for herself. She is still a child, and you, more than anyone, know that this world doesn't accept children anymore. Either she grows up, or she dies.

Clementine said, no longer mincing her words, and sounding a bit more "cruel" than Carlos had expected.

But the man knew it was true, after everything that had happened, everything he had seen, it was even a surprise that his daughter was still alive, when so many other people had died.

Maybe it was luck, luck that they found a group like Luke's. Lucky to have found Carver, some time after all this had happened. Lucky that other people had died in his place.

- Carlos... she is right... she used some "harsher" words, but... she is right.

Rebecca said in a tired tone, looking at Carlos in a warm way while slightly swinging Alvin Jr in her arms. A tribute to the man she loved.

Carlos looked at Rebecca, then at Clementine, and finally at Sarah, letting out a heavy, defeated sigh soon after.

-Okay. - he said simply, walking toward the girl.

- Clementine, could you stay here with Rebecca for a while? If she needs anything, or feels anything, call me. - He said, somewhat somberly, as if he already regretted something he hadn't even done yet.

"... He'll go easy on her... I'm sure" - The girl thought, nodding to Carlos, who turned and called for Sarah.

Clementine sighed, she was sure that Carlos would be a bit "gentle" with the girl, but at least she would learn to shoot... at least, she hoped so.

Or at least the girl would stop being so childish, the way she was acting was already out of line, and if Sarah didn't improve, Clementine would personally take care of making her grow up.

And, unlike Carlos, she wouldn't be "gentle" in the least.

- Damn it! - Duck cursed aloud as he missed the spear on a fish he spotted. He was not having much luck in his fishing, although he had caught a few fish, they were not enough for a group of that size. And there were not many in the river, at least not at that moment.

He looked back once more, scanning the place for walkers. It had been a while since Carlos had started teaching Sarah to shoot, and by the looks of things, it wasn't going too well.

He knew right away the problem, Carlos was hesitant to teach her, and that was exactly what was causing the girl to miss so many shots. Duck agreed with Clementine, Sarah was still too childish, and if she didn't change soon, she would surely die, that was a fact.

He looked at the girl once again, sighing as he saw that Sarah had missed another shot.

"Damn, they're just wasting ammo" - He thought, throwing the spear on the ground and walking towards the two as he shook his head.

However, his eyes focused on something else.

From the forest, right next to where Carlos and Sarah were standing, he saw two men peering in his direction, apparently with weapons in hand.

Both bald, one of the men was slightly larger than the other, and had a tattoo on his head.

"Ah shit" - Duck thought, running towards Carlos and Sarah as he picked up his rifle from the ground.
