Legolas POV
I knew there would be few chances to speak alone with her, no matter how long I stayed. And I was quite lucky; apparently she wasn't one for sleeping in, either.
So I took a seat next to her, underneath the White Tree, and determined where her deep gaze was heading off too. Our silence was content, I thought, until I looked over once more.
A tear drop was falling, making its lazy trail over her pale cheek, stopping when it reached her lips. With closed eyes, she drew in a shaky breath, then looked out on the world once more. As it would have to be, I was speechless, too worried to offer any query.
She gave me no chance, anyhow. Meeting my eyes, the corners of her mouth uplifted just slightly. A door creaked open, just a short distance off, the doors to the hall. Without needing to see who it was, the queen stood, a hand going to her face, wiping away any trace of her tears. She went to him, taking his hands gently, no doubt saying a deceiving 'good morning.' She left him, too, picking up the hem of her dress and making her way inside.
